New thread just for you star!

Well, hopefully not just for you, or it could get a bit boring talking to yourself Grin.

Oh pepper, it is awful. We had a loooong run with it.
Movicol will make it all better. Seriously, if it's that bad, get some. Miracle powder. And you can put it in very little water and even syringe it in if you need to. Also dried fruits. Lots of dried fruit and fresh fruit. I chop fresh fruit every morning and for his lunch. No bananas. At all. Cut the wheat/bread way down or Cut down milk. Obv not a lot of sugar.
Prune juice - the tiniest drop syringed in while sleeping Blush can also make a difference.
You've probably done all of this.

pepperrabbit · 02/02/2012 21:26

Actually not! DH and i were a bit worried, bit vague, decided she needs to drink more Blush She's not upset, doesn't seem bothered by the amount of effort she's putting in - such a red face on the loo!
I must do something more assertive. I'll definitely try more fruit as well though she's not that interested in it.

We had such a long struggle with it. Still do sometimes. But seems ok now, still large solid poos though, sorry tmi
Cheese can be constipating, too.

HavePatience · 02/02/2012 21:45

Oh! Myjob I tried the hand squeeze today at dr this morning. I had a blood test first appt. Q annoyed he couldn't play more with waiting area toys
So when he protested I grabbed his hand and squeezed it and pulled him along. Normally I would grab him under the arm as I worry about dislocating shoulder if he resists.
So, hand squeeze. He says "OW mommy!OW!" but half walks half protests behind me.
We get to the room and Q is crying. Nurse asks what's wrong. "mommy grabbed my hand. We must be kind, mustn't we, mommy?" with a sad face. Arghhhh.

HavePatience · 02/02/2012 21:47

Anyway, nurse pulled up both sleeves. Chose an arm. Drew blood.
Walks halfway between my room and adjoining room with another patient waiting for blood test. Nurse walks back to my room. Puts band on other arm and inserts needle. I'm confused and say "I feel sick"
Nurse looks at my white face, then plaster on my other arm and says "oh. Oh no. I'm so sorry".
She had mixed me up with other patient! She was full of remorse so I'm not angry or anything, but I had to sit there for 25 extra minutes drinking something that tasted quite sweet and letting them look me over to be sure I was safe to drive!
Poor Q kept saying, "are you ok mommy? "
Lightheaded doesn't come close to what I felt!

Oh no myjob. Good mummy! The Nurse gave me a knowing look and said, "we all have to do what's necessary to get where we need to be, don't we"Grin

HavePatience · 03/02/2012 16:17

He's just a drama queen. I'll keep doing it because he's learned he doesn't want that to happen Wink

HavePatience · 04/02/2012 19:19

Arghhh I think he has slapped cheek and high temp and vomit were just coincidence. I'm hoping, anyway. Had to get dose for fever meds at dr so had him weighed and he was 35lbs! Shock. No wonder he's so heavy! He did have a huge poo to do that he was holding in, so perhaps a bit less (haha! But he is noticeably lighter after he's released a held in poo!).

His face is bright red and rash now all over trunk and spread to arms and legs. Under chin super itchy and red. He looks like he has a bad sunburn. Rash on body is pinprick and dark pink mostly and red in some areas. fifths disease sounds right, right?

I have no clue what is normal at this age. I guess I just assumed he couldn't be over 20lbs and I was just a wimp, but he really is heavy to carry. I'm probably still a wimp Wink just not as much of one as I had thought.

Dr said it is fifths unless the rash changes or develops bruises (??) or if he gets suddenly droopy (other than normal tiredness) and any other elevated 40+temps that don't respond within an hour to calpol and nurofen. If those thng happen, I should go to A&E immediately, apparently. Fortunately, after several hours we did break that massive fever and now he's running about 38-38.4 when calpol or nurofen wears off, but only feels slightly warm when he's taken medicine. So I've stopped giving it for a while to let his body heal itself /fever burn off. I just couldn't do that when higher than 40 and dr telling me to get it down in any way I could ASAP.

He has been happy, playing and full of beans, though, today (and yesterday morning!).

HavePatience · 04/02/2012 21:27

Q isn't especially short, (surprisingly as dh and I are both short) but very solid. He's about average height among his peers. I'm sure neither are overweight. Sorry if I implied that. I didn't mean to. I was just alarmed as last time I checked his weight was years ago Blush and started feeling really out of shape and weak whenever I pick him up.

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/02/2012 06:14

Sorry to hear that q is poorly. I thought slapped cheek only gave rash on cheeks? It did for dd, and ds1 had it with no rash at all!
J weighs over 30lbs! D is about 40lbs I think.

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 05/02/2012 09:56

Well DD is still 27lb so we have the full range of sizes on this thread!
I had to call the Out of Hours dr yesterday as DD looked peaky when she got up but nothing serious, then mid mornign she said she was tired, and at 11.30 she just kind of passed out, all droopy, very very hot (couldn't find thermometer Angry). and she said she had tummy ache Hmm.
All quite frightening, but as this happened just after DH dropped me at the hairdressers I didn't find out till I got home....
She was in bed, no medicine administered, in her woolly dress Shock Shock
DH said she conked out too fast to give her nurofen.....
Any how, many conversations later and after her temp came down, she slept for 5 hours, then got up and had some tea!
The doc did say I should take her to the HV clinic and get her weighed just to check as she sounds very light. - She said the actual thing yesterday could have been an allergy. But as she'd been constipated it was difficult to tell.

Csws oh crap. So it could be something else?
He does seem fine apart from the body rash and coming and going of red cheeks. Fever seems to have completely broken, though cheeks hot when red. Confused

HavePatience · 05/02/2012 17:13

Pepper - men are so stupid! Glad She is ok.

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/02/2012 20:57

If your GP has seen it star then I would go with what he/she said. But most rashes in kids tend to be non-specific viral, and aren't anything to particularly worry about :) unless you are a worrier anyway in which case there's no point telling you not to worry .

pepperrabbit · 05/02/2012 21:19

LOL CSWS.
How is your DH, did he get another job? Sorry I'm a bit out of touch if you've already mentioned.

Purpleprickles · 05/02/2012 21:22

I have no idea how much J weighs Blush

Sorry to hear of poorly children. I can add J to the list, he's had a temp all day, not too high but above normal. He's hardly eaten and apart from a mad hour in the snow when the calpol was at it's best has laid on the sofa looking sad. We've all been battling colds for weeks so I guess it's that. No other symptoms yet. Dh is staying off with him tomo and hopefully he'll wake up feeling better. We're off to Euro Disney on Saturday for the first part of half term so in a way it's better he is ill this week.

Nothing else to report I'm in bed with a runny nose and headache. I've just watched Call The Midwife which is my new favourite Sunday night cheesy viewing.

HavePatience · 05/02/2012 21:29

Yeah, I'm worried.
Off to google fifths disease and see if the pinprick rash all over his body is normal (except hands and feet and milder on arms and legs and of course just red hot cheeks and under chin).
What freaked me out was the gp pressing in many spots while Q was naked on the table and telling me to stay local and go to A&E if x y or z happen. But, he seems fine. Just never had a rash like this.
GP did say it was a good sign it was itchy in some spots.

I don't know why he can't just have a raised temp, it always gets far too high and then won't come down no matter what we try and then finally does. He likes to scare me. Preparing for teen years, I suppose.

PP I hope you took advantage of the calm to rest as well! I hope J is feeling better soon. Eurodisney sounds fun! Grin

Q slept in until 10am this morning Shock and still went to bed at 7! Unbelievable!

pepperrabbit · 05/02/2012 21:30

Hi PP. Sounds like DD yesterday, she was better today in herself, but didn't really eat very much and wanted to "sleep on the sofa" - this means watch CBeebies without the boys changing the channel to watch appalling American cartoons.
Hope J perks up tomorrow.

HavePatience · 05/02/2012 21:34

Grin @appalling American cartoons! I fully agree, btw

Purpleprickles · 05/02/2012 21:35

HP I don't want to contradict CSWS because I seriously do think she is a fountain of knowledge but I thought slapped cheek could mean a rash too. The Dr thought J had it at 13 months but only his cheeks got red and I'm sure I'd read his body might too. Hope Q perks up soon, yay for sleep.

Pepper I went to bed for 2hrs with J Grin
