Sorry, I've jumped in with the new thread! Its been running through my head for the last week!

Me too tho April may change slightly... I'll alter if necessary.
Oooooooooooo excited! Grin

I can't open the calendar on my phone and my laptops broken but I'm pretty much free whenever I think. Nothing planned so far, got a christening on 11th march but that's about it. Also I think most people would prefer leeds so should we just settle on there?

I've filled it in too.

Scan yesterday went very well - the nuchal screening showed just about as low a risk for Downs etc as you can get, considering my age, so that's obviously great! I'm not worried about the age thing as the doctor was able to show us all the things that she was looking out for, and they all looked very positive.

Other than that, I've still got a stinking cold - went to Boots yesterday to get something for the sinus pressure and they basically said that because I was pregnant I shouldn't be taking any medicine at all. I hate that! I am a risk-averse person generally, and take few medicines in any case, but if they just give a blanket 'no' then it doesn't give you any chance to assess it for yourself and see whether you think it's a risk worth taking. It's just a message saying 'suck it up, sista!'. I did push for more explanation as to what the risk consisted of, and was told that it can elevate your blood pressure, but other than that it was mostly down to 'we can't recommend anything to you in pregnancy'. Well my blood pressure is generally good, and I'm not planning on necking the whole packet or anything, so I went back to a (different) pharmacy today and they didn't ask any questions at all when I bought a packet. Sucks to them.

lumpylumps · 07/02/2012 17:02

Comix in the NHS pregnancy book that you should get in your 1st load of bumph it gives you a table of whats safe to take. You can take sinex (oxymetazalone)! but not often and only when really needed. Like you say, its a risk thats up yo you to take. Half the time the "do not take when pregnant" is due to no research being done so they don't know what would happen so advise against it just in case.

OP posts:
comixminx · 07/02/2012 21:48

It's just really annoying when you're given a blanket 'no' and nothing that gives a proper depth of information! Say there's a drug which is associated with higher maternal BP and not much else in the way of side effects - well, my BP is generally fine so that's a risk I'm happy to take. But then it's very hard to say that there is little else in the way of side effects across a whole population with not that much research possible / being done, I appreciate that.

I've just dug out that book, lumpy. It is a bit more nuanced than the Boots advice but still not all that much. I took 1 capsule of the stuff I bought in the pharmacy - recommended dose is 2. It does include pseudoephedrine which the NHS book contraindicates - but again the NHS book doesn't say why. I'm sure that as you say (and indeed as the Dr at the scan said) a lot of it is going to come down to not being able to do studies to prove it's safe - who's going to sign up for that sort of trial, I guess. There are some retrospective studies, including some referenced here but that's from 1998 so dunno what other research has happened since then. This page gives more useful detail of the sort of implication / risk involved.

comixminx · 07/02/2012 21:49

PS I'm also feeling much the better for my single half-dose! Won't need to take any more for now I don't think.

cinnamongreyhound · 08/02/2012 06:27

That's exactly it comixminx they can't tell you why as the research hasn't been done! As you say pregnant woman just wouldn't be asked to take part in a clinical trial and most wouldn't accept.

You only get that book with your first lumpylumps, I was told when I had ds1 to keep it safe as no matter how many children I had how many years apart I wouldn't get another. Tbh I don't thinks it's massively up to date anyway so wouldn't matter if I had another baby in 15 years time! I did get lots of bits of paper with Luke so I guess they're the up to date bits.

I haven't mentioned anything to my mum about me still bf Luke as I know she wouldn't approve but dh said something on Sunday and she went into one about how he doesn't need it and I should stop. Managed to stop myself saying you don't NEED that wine and that's the only reason you're telling me this! I just don't see it as a big issue atm and I don't want the hassle of stopping it, I don't want him to bf until he's 3 but ds1 stopped when he was ready (15months) and that was nice. He only has a first thing and last thing feed.

Luke hasn't been well the last few days, he's been really hot and very clingy to me wanting lots of cuddles but nothing else! Seems better now but everytime he's ill it takes a while for him to get back to his normal sleeping pattern :(

Managed 25 mins running last night, snow/ice didn't make it easy but covered 3.6Km so I'm happy!

newmum001 · 08/02/2012 07:35

I'm surprised anyone has that oppinion of bf cinnamon. If he want's a feed then that's all that matters weather he needs it or not. Bf is all he's used to for milk, so why bother buying a load of bottles and giving cows milk when you don't need to. I know it's a bit different but grace still loves sitting on my knee when she has a bottle and I love it, it's the only time she really sits with me and I'm sure you love bf as much as luke does.

Comix, I was under the impression that the only thing you could really take when pregnant was paracetamol and everything else had to be checked with the dr first. But like you say if there is no risk associated with something who's to say not to take it. Glad you're feeling a bit better.

Cinnamon I got it with both of mine! Infact I got 2 with Ds1! Perhaps thats why other people are only allowed one! I've got them all!

I've got a day off today. The boys are in nursery (have silly "its wrong" issues about that! If i'm off they should be with me!) and i'm going into town with a friend for lunch and to the cinema! I'm really looking forward to it!

Ha ha! Bloody typical! Lovely start to the day! bit of shopping, just sat down and ordered lunch and my phone rings! Nursery!!! Ollys running a temp, hasn't eaten his dinner and isn't very happy! I was a bad mummy, told them to give him calpol and see. I rang them an hour later and he was fast asleep. He's getting his last big tooth so I knew what it was and they were happy with that & he made me feel especially guilty when I did pick him up. He was just ready for another dose of calpol, all poorly & clingy!!!!!!! Poor little man. I've got tomorrow off to. I think i'll make it up to him and give hima nice olly mummy day!

Cinnamon it's awful when people make you feel like you are wrong for breastfeeding, especially when you are told to give them cows milk for several more years. If they really need milk then give them breastmilk and give mums support so they can continue breastfeeding. I have snapped at my mum a few times when she says there is no need to feed DD2 and Lucy anymore. She is usually giving them a choccie biscuit at the time and there isn't any need for that is there?

Lucy is getting her back teeth and her cheeks alternate between squishy and pink to bright red and hard. She doesn't have a lot of pain but she does get chewy when she feeds which is a bit painful for me.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/02/2012 16:27

That's exactly what dh and I said afterwards Debs75, I don't need chocolate and he doesn't need cider but we want and like them and Luke is the same. If I'm out he has cows milk with dh but he prefers to have it from a bottle and warm when he has it, which it doesn't need to be but my mum doesn't see a problem with that. A bf is much better for him than a lollypop and it's cuddly time for mummy too. One of my minded mums said to me the other day that her baby (8 months) still loves the boob, personally I don't like the phase and I think it's things like that that make people feel it's weird. Imo it's not that she likes the boob it's that she likes the milk and cuddles!

newmum001 · 09/02/2012 16:53

Cinnamon I'm not a fan of that saying either!

I'm poorly :( got some sort of bug and have spent the day feeling very sorry for myself and sleeping. Dp phones his mum this morning and asked her to come and pick grace up and I phoned my mum and cried haha! I'm 27 and still only want my mum when I'm ill! She doesn't work fridays so she said if I still feel clshit tomorrow to call her In the morning and she'll come and get grace.

Sassy what was jamie olivers restaurant like? Dp has booked for us to go there for our anniversary next month.

sassy34264 · 09/02/2012 19:08

hi.

wrote a long post a couple of nights ago, but pressed close instead of send and lost it.

going to start with some good news that i got today though.
sil's cancer has nearly gone. she is soooo happy- as are we all. she's having champagne with mil now. god, im sooo relieved. me and dp had talked about us having james and everything- just incase it was bad news. im trying really hard not to just sob.
she had the results early than she was supposed to. so we are hoping that it is gone by the proper date. if its not gone, she will either have more treatment or a hysterectomy (sp). she cant have more children anyway and is already on hrt cos she is going through the menopause- so its not going to cause any new problems.
its so tragic that she is going through all this, but this is almost the best outcome.

cant remember everything that i put. but i did say that i cant open the calendar either, have no plans on any days tho, but i would find it hard to come on a term time date as i have to be here for 3.30, when chloe gets back from school. if its the majority vote tho, i will see what i can do.

newmum it was lovely. the place is small but very low lights, comfy, mood setting etc. and the food is the best ive ever had. we want to go back and try new things. we had the steak- yum yum.

MammyG · 10/02/2012 19:38

Poor Phoebe is all out of sorts. Despite running a small pharmacy and trying everything her bum is worse. Its horrible and bleeding. to too it off she I'd running a temp and has thrown up. Had to take today off. Never seen my pet so pale and wan.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/02/2012 21:09

That's great news sassy34264! Just applied for one of the mn tester things and one of the prizes is £100 to spend in a Jamie Oliver Restuarant :)

That's horrible MammyG, my friends little girl got mrsa when she was in scbu and her bottom was bleeding from the skin not healing from nappy rash. I took it that she got nappy rash and it got infected with mrsa and then it didn't heal. Maybe some underlying infection that's stopping phoebe's from healing.

Luke had a high temp Sunday and Monday but nothing else, it was back to normal Tuesday but he's been a nightmare! He hasn't eaten a lot until today when he hasn't stopped and he's been so stroppy, grumpy, cryey :(. Everything has made him upset and he wants to be held all the time and I'm exhausted! Not to mention struggling through the poxy snow with the pushchair multiple times a day! I'm so ready for the weekend and half term, not children until 8.45 and no school runs :)

sassy34264 · 11/02/2012 04:44

oh mammyg poor thing. winces at the thought. have the docs looked at it?

cinnamon we had 2 courses and 2 bottles of wine and it didnt come to £100. and we both had the dearest thing on the menu- steak. very reasonable considering whose restaurant it is. Smile

cant sleep- hence the time. the whole house is sleeping but me! Angry
im snuggled under the covers with dp snoring quietly next to me.

he came home from the navy for good today. we blew up balloons and had party food. but he'd had kentucky on the way home- bloody typical! chloe loved it and j and i loved the balloons- realised they'd never seen them before Blush'

eva moaning a bit now. might be time for her 2nd night feed. night. x

patito · 11/02/2012 21:30

Hi

Haven´t been on for a while as I´ve been exhausted. maia has gone back to waking several times a night and wanting night feed again but then not sleeping through daytime either. Had horrible day on Thursday lots of crying (the kids) and lots of shouting (me Blush). DP suggested I go to spare bed over weekend one so I could get some sleep and , two he´d get Maia back to sleep and try and break feeding cycle. I still woke a couple of times last night but at least i didn´t have Maia feeding for half the night!

cinnamon wow! Well done you on your diet and your running. 14 kilos is excellent! I wish I had your will power, have promised myself will start running when it gets a bit warmer, I just can´t face getting out of a warm bed to go running in the dark and cold.

mammyg i´d also get back down to GP, could be some skin infection or they may be able to suggest some other treatment. hope she feels better soon.

sassy Fab news for your SIL and for you having your DH home.

Gonna get off. Will book some flights home but will be for early March so i guess thats too early for the meet up. Will check out the calendar just in case.

Debs75 · 12/02/2012 11:12

Managed to lose 1lb this week so I am on the road to slimnessGrin Just another 75 or so to go.

Hope Phoebe feels better soon MammyG. Lucy had a sore bum the other week and it only started getting better once she stopped pooing, just wiping her bum made her sob. I even tried no nappy but when she weed she cried as well

cinnamongreyhound · 13/02/2012 08:01

Well done Debs75, here's to a slimmer you!

What a night!! Ds1 had a high temp and cough yesterday and had a nap in the day. He had paracetamol and ibuprofen before bed but was still burning up, he was up every 1 1/2-2 hrs crying :(. He came into our bed at 6 and was soaking wet but not as warm and went back to sleep, Luke was then up at 6.30 :(. Ds1's tonsils look huge but he's much better this morning, I have an appointment with dr with Luke this morning for his eczema and belly button so thinking I might make him a new one and get them to look at ds1 instead if they'll do that?

cinnamongreyhound · 13/02/2012 08:04

Meant to say I've had days like that with Luke recently patito, since he was poorly last week he's been crying and having tantrums all day and he's driving me mad! Hope you've managed to get some more sleep, when Luke was waking at night he'd scream if he saw dh as he knew there was no milk coming!
