Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Well first day went well thankfully! Have nobody booked in today though Hmm. So i'm going to go and see about getting cards and leaflets printed and put them just everywhere!
Cake I can understand what you mean about your career. Especially as you say you get paid so well for it. But it's not as if you have to swap too many days and you'll make up for it friday so it'll be fine!
Chul that sounds like a disaterous night. Wonder what was up with him. Calpol would be no harm tonight I suppose. Fingers crossed for a non stressfull day for you!
Mlic hope your day in is unevenful too!
E still seems poorly. She just looks pale and tired and still has bags under her eyes. But apart from cough and sneezing she's fine. A bit more cuddly but thats it

Spirael · 09/11/2011 09:37

Morning all! :) Sorry to hear there's lots of sleeping problems all around at present. :( We've had a few issues with M, I think she's building up to another bulk teething. However she is generally extremely good at resettling herself, so we're really lucky in that regard!

She got her first proper telling off at the weekend, however. :( I've never really had to tell her off before other than a warning "No" and distraction when she attempted to do something potentially dangerous. But she bit DH (who was too surprised to do anything) then promptly sank her teeth into my shoulder a couple of minutes later.

Naturally there were floods of tears after she was unceremoniously (gently) dumped on the ground and told firmly that biting was unacceptable, but since then there've been no further bitings. So hopefully [crosses fingers] it was an isolated incident..? [cloud cuckoo land]

She's in the process of moving from the babies room to toddler room at nursery currently, so I think that combined with possible teething has her a bit out of sorts.

I'm a little Envy of those of you who can distract LO's into sitting quietly with CBeebies! We have it on occasionally for M (normally when we're trying to sort dinner in the evening) but she just ignores it and rampages around the lounge and kitchen. She likes to be doing something, all the time!

I fear it's genetic, neither DH or I are good at sitting still and watching TV either. Hmm

On the plus side M's getting quite good at loading/removing laundry from the washing machine and helping me empty the dishwasher. Wink

Totally agree with your problems around career and children, Cake! It's really hard to juggle sometimes. DH and I are lucky enough to both have fairly standard hours office jobs and can work from home and/or flexi-time in exceptional circumstances.

Also luckily, M seems to be a pretty tough cookie and hasn't had many illnesses thus far. We have friends that might be willing to help, and if/when something like Chickenpox occurs then I'm sure we can call on a Grandparent to come and stay for a week or two.

But I do feel guilty a lot of the time that I ship M off to nursery every day and only see her at weekends, when we spend a lot of time doing chores rather than quality time together. And when she's ill, it may not be me there to comfort her. :(

Just to pile on the guilt too, yesterday I was informed that I'm probably going to need to be sent out to Lithuania for several days a few times next year with work. Erk! [crushed with guilt]

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 09/11/2011 09:37

The grass is always greener cake. I guarantee if you had a 'job', you'd covet a 'career'

Glad it went well kk, it'll take a little while for a regular client base to build up. I'm sure you'll be able to moan about how busy you are before you know it :)

There are lots of non-sleeping babies at the moment aren't there! But I suppose like cake said, they will be over this phase before long and as had as it feels now, it won't last. I do really feel for you though chul, I know what it's like to have an almost 3 yo and a 16 month old, without being upduffed too, and little sleep on top of all that.

Vik how are his daytime naps going? Is he on one nap a day now? What are your plans for your week off?

Spirael · 09/11/2011 09:38

Oops, that was a bit of a Me essay. Sorry! Thanks

viksam · 09/11/2011 10:08

Cake, I would like a job that ends at 5.30 too, but I have all the same responsibility as when I was full time and not pregnant and it's hard now! Oh well, only 3 weeks to go and next week is holiday! Mylife I will get my hair cut and my eyebrows done other than that No plans at all, I will probably go on a mad cleaning spree for a day, sad but true! Chu, hope u have a gental day today and the children are nice to u! Spireal, it's nice to hear ur thoughts and a bit about u, don't feel bad for me posts, I'm forever doing it. Supposed to be writing up some meeting mins but really don't have the motivation and I hate the new Microsoft office on my computer and can't find how to make the page look bigger, cake are u there? It's showing the whole page and I just want to see where I'm typing iyswim?

MalibuStac · 09/11/2011 10:40

Great news about the first day kk, poor E hope she's better soon

I felt the same with R when she was ill and I had to leave her spireal but I consoled myself with the fact she was with someone who cares and if she really needed me I'd be there. Don't beat yourself up, she won't remember.

Viks are you finishing for mat leave in 3wks? Sorry not got a clue about office I use the whole page.

CakeandRoses · 09/11/2011 11:06

you got a zoom control in the top toolbar vik? just increase it to 200% or something

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/11/2011 11:29

spirael D tried biting me the other day but he didn't like the response he got so didn't try it again!

kk great news on the first day, hope it keeps up for you.

I've just spent £60 on Xmas presents, im nowhere near finished and none of them were for D although he's not getting much from us this year.

Chulita · 09/11/2011 12:22

viks is there a 'view' tab at the top of the page? If so you can click on that and change the settings so you can see the whole page.

re TV, I don't have a problem with S, he just won't stay still for anything except Brio. I'm not one for television watching and I hate having the thing on flashing away if no one's watching it (and most of it's drivel) but seriously L will just sit there until I turn it off. On the days when I've been most ill feeling and it's been on for the whole day, she's been sat there staring at it. That's why I worry about her imagination, it's like if there's no one there to encourage her, she'll just veg.

Good luck getting out there and 'selling' your skills kkfairy, once you get a few regulars you'll be away!

That's the main worry for me re jobs/career cake, even once children are in school there's always the holidays/sick days/inset days etc, and there's the moving around for us too - too much to think about!

spirael I can't believe M only just had her first telling off! S is all the time cos he's a right cheeky so and so. Sunday I was grilling stuff, and even though I was standing right there, he kept trying to put cars under it. He knows it's wrong too, he always does stuff looking at me with the cheekiest grin.

I've decided to get L an art storage box for her birthday full of paper, pens, glue and sequins. I just can't find what I'd like, ideally a small table-top something with 3 drawers that will hold A4 paper. If any of you know where to get one, let me know!

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/11/2011 12:47

Fucking fucking fucking helllllllll!! I've been trying to get to have a nap since half 11. I've shut him in his room and he's screaming. He just won't go to bloody sleep.

Right just needed to get that out.

Chulita · 09/11/2011 13:08

Can you take him out for a walk or something? Thank the heavens S will fall asleep in the buggy if we're out, L never would.

OP posts:
DesperateHousewife21 · 09/11/2011 13:40

So I went in there and he was playing with a tube of E45 so I gave him a cuddle and some water, laid him down and he went straight to sleep I don't know what all the drama was about then. Hes been asleep for 40 mins so far.

viksam · 09/11/2011 14:02

Isn't it just annoying when they fight sleep like that. Mylife I think u asked about D's sleeping pattern now, yeah he's down to one nap around 1ish or before if i can do lunch early and he usually goes out like a light, I don't let him have any more than an hour and a half but he is really really tired by bed time. I'm guessing this is what W does too, does E nap in the day?
I haven't felt much #2 movement today until just when he had a little shift, it's a bit unnerving though.

Chulita · 09/11/2011 14:47

dh sometimes I think they just get all worked up and they themselves don't know what they're on about.

viks hope your lo starts wriggling about and driving you crazy, no fun when you notice something like that.

I just remembered another thing L does when she's not entertained, if I actually try to do something, like tidy up/wash dishes/hoover/clean/cook or anything remotely not child-focused, she just repeats ad nauseam "want a cuddle, want a cuddle, want a cuddle, want a cuddle, want a cuddle, want a cuddle, want a cuddle, want a cuddle, want a cuddle, want a cuddle" in a plaintive voice with about a 20 second interval between them. To be fair to her, if I sit down she will have a cuddle for as long as I'll let her but seriously, the girl just can't cope if she's left to her own devices. I only remembered this because we've got our neighbours round for tea and I've been trying to cook and tidy the house a bit, I'm about ready to explode (and I feel really mean telling her that no, she can't have a cuddle right now because I'm busy)

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 09/11/2011 15:00

Keep a diary of movements if it's worrying you vik. Sometimes it feels like hours since you felt a movement but if you have it written down it probably hasn't been as long as you think iyswim

No biglad doesn't nap. Hahahaha if only! No, he decided a month after Bilbob arrived that daytime naps were for the weak and refused them from that moment forth. The little fella sleeps from 12ish (12.20 today) for as long as e wants within reason (ie he had two hours today) I may or may not have woken him up by making up E's bed, but either way he'd had a planty long enough nap so I wasn't bothered.

I have text dh and pre-warned him that I'm sick of food, have no inspiration for tea and no motivation to go to the shops and on that basis we are having Chinese tonight. I couldn't go out if I wanted to actually as I'm still waiting on both deliveries. The dog food had better turn up, they've run out!

Am two thirds/three quarters through We Need To Talk About Kevin and am enjoying it (although it's hard going imo) so thanks for the recommendation Gracie and WSS

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 09/11/2011 15:04

Oh I sympathise chul. My toddler's I'm bored and I know what gets attention drill is 'I need the toilet'

Well go then.
The light's not on.
Ok, the light's on now.
I'm fiiiiiiiiiiinished
What are you telling me for?
I did a poo mammy I need help with the toilet paper

Aaaarrrghhhhhhh

CakeandRoses · 09/11/2011 15:23

vik hope he does start moving very soon, the little monkey. Probably just sleeping but I know how worrying it is.

mlic you're prolly right about grass is always greener. Just going thru a tough phase of feeling like I'm not doing anything v well.

Both mine still nap. A at 11.30 for up to 2 hours and F at 12 for about 1.5h.

In a tearoom on bb at the month so sorry for everything I've missed

CakeandRoses · 09/11/2011 15:29

Oh and I was like that yday mlic and got a chinese. Mushroom, leek and asparagus risotto tonight and pizza night with friend/sister/cousin tomo at mine.

Woodlands · 09/11/2011 16:02

No idea what we're having for dinner tonight. We are away for three nights at the weekend so we're running down the contents of the fridge. Tomorrow night will be home made pizza and we have the ingredients for that. For tonight we need to make something from the following ingredients:
1 leek
1 aubergine
Some elderly creme fraiche
Some elderly ham
We have potatoes, onions, garlic, rice, tinned tomatoes, frozen chicken thighs, general store cupboard stuff. No pasta or cheese but we could buy some if necessary. Any bright ideas?

I just lay on my front on the floor and J crawled all over me. Feels a bit like I've had a massage - nice! I recommend it!

Longing for news from Trudy!

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/11/2011 17:57

Aahh I reckon trudy has had the baby which is why she's been absent for a while- eee! Will be so exciting to see newborn pics.

We're having some sort of chicken casserole tonight with rice and peas.

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 09/11/2011 18:31

Erm I reckon I'd do pasta with a creamy leek/onion and ham sauce typey thingy probably. Got any garlic bread in the feezer?

Woodlands · 09/11/2011 22:10

bet she's had him by now!

we got pizza hut in the end Blush

will do leftovers meal tomorrow.

DesperateHousewife21 · 10/11/2011 07:27

Quiet here! Was it all the non sleeping babies keeping us up? D woke at 9, 11 then half 2 when he came in with us and slept til 7. I can't believe he sleeps so well in our bed. I don't feed him at all now. He has a carton of sma when he gets up in the morn.

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 10/11/2011 08:23

I sat and read the end of my book last night so that's why I was quiet. Bilbo was up at 3.30am sobbing again :( I calpoled him because he was literally ramming his fists into his mouth, bless him, then put him back to bed with milk and I woke him at 7.30.

Not up to much this morning then my friend and her dds are coming round this afternoon.

DesperateHousewife21 · 10/11/2011 08:25

I was just reading an article about chicken pox and how people in America are buying lollies which have been sucked by an infected child in the hope their child will then catch them (yuck!)
Then I was reading the comments and some people were saying they had their child immunised against them but I'm under the impression it's not free.
Has anyone thought about getting one for your lo? I'm guessing you have to pay for it atm. Dh has never had them and they can be slot worse when you're an adult.
