Good morning!
Well this is utterly ridiculous, im sat on the sofa with a cuppa whilst D is sound asleep in his cot and has been all night. He woke at 12ish just for dummy but i took the opportunity to quickly change his nappy as it was half full by then, i managed to do it in the cot with him still sleeping, wierd. Then he cried for about 2 mins at 4.20, i thought, here we go, but no, not a peep after that..................however, i havent slept since due to, well, everything! loo, nose, uncomfortable, cant breath, etc etc so i have finally given in and got up. Just had some paracetamol so hopefully i'll feel better soon. DH is off today so not sure what we will end up doing. Do want to finish the spare room, i have also been decluttering the kitchen cupboards and moving things around over the last few days so i want to finish that too. Just got the steralizer out again and made a home for that, really want to be organized so i dont have a last minuite rush. Gota do the coats and shoes next, get rid of all the summer shoes Sad
Whats everyone else doing this week? And how was everyones night?
cake hows F been the last few days?
Also does anyones lo's have an aversion to their dh/dp's, i know dh you have said about ur dh not being able to settle D, does anyone else have issues?

Chulita · 24/10/2011 07:54

Ack viks how utterly crap :( L and DH never really got on tbh, she couldn't stand him for a long time and wouldn't go to him for cuddles or settle for him at night. I don't want to make it sound bad but it's only since last month that they've started to enjoy spending time together. S will often choose DH over me but L never, ever does.

The only disposables I won't touch are Huggies but anything else is fine. Usually Pampers or Sainsbury's but I'm not fussy, that's just where we shop and when they have offers on the Pampers I buy a couple of packs and they see us through a few months. viks if you thought you were only having the one I agree re the outlay. We'd always hoped to have more and tbh having done L for over 2 years, and now S, there's still plenty of life in them left for at least one more so the initial £200 was worth it, esp as we hardly use spozzies at all.

kkfairy very jealous re fire! we have one in our proper house but we're not living there so it's wasted!

Off to a friend's today, going to take the train rather than drive cos L's been going on about trains for a while.

vik no one else has tried to settle him this way before. Tbh I don't mind doing it, I'm used to it, I cope better with tiredness than dh and D settles instantly with me so we all get more sleep.

We had a better night, he went down at half 7 and didn't hear from him til half 10, I fell asleep next to him til half 11 when dh came in to wake me up so I went back to bed and D didn't wake til 3ish then he went til half 5 when I brought him in our bed. I know I've got to completely stop doing that but he slept til half 7.

DesperateHousewife21 · 24/10/2011 08:08

Also period has come on heavy now and it's not nice. I'm not used to it!

Trudyla · 24/10/2011 08:12

viks I hear ya. Just COULD NOT GET COMFY. Bloody huge belly. I lay awake for over two hours last night and I didn't even worry about something [hgrin], was just uncomfortable. I suppose, that's still progress.

We usually use Pampers and they work well for us. I always buy them when they're on special offer.

kk I'm also very jealous of your fire. This is the thing I miss most about England (apart from friends and family of course), that there are so many lovely open fires, in pubs, cafs, restaurants, in people's houses, we had a brilliant one in our flat. It makes winter so much more bearable.

Not much planned for today. Gonna have a massage later though, which is excellent. I only just found out that the girl who's massaging me is married to a quite famous actor (German) so I'm gonna ask her all about it today. I get very excited about that kind of thing.

Who have you seen that was famous(ish)? My best one is Noel Gallagher in a fish and chips shop in London. I also saw Atul Kochar, the Indian chef, in his restaurant and he smiled and said hello and I said tsasasdfasd and looked away [hblush], was star struck. I also saw Rupert Murdoch once, but that's not so cool and I saw several German zelebs that I can't show off with. How about you?

CakeandRoses · 24/10/2011 08:57

morning all,

re the nappy chat - we're still using the naturecare eco ones and never have any problems with them other than the fact they're always ££.

vik that sounds really shit. i found sleeping hard thru much of my pgs even tho i had no pain or anything - it's so bloody frustrating. try to make sure you take yourself off to lie down as much as poss. just resting like that is really helpful.

thanks for asking about F. things have been so much better now i've got my head round what's going on in his and you guys helped me put it in perspective. i feel like i need to talk to nursery about it but don't want to come across all 'my child is so gifted and talented that he needs to be treated differently' because that's not what i think but he def needs to be challenged and interested to get the best out of him/stop him behaving like a total loon (and then upsetting me by them moaning about it!)

just to explain what i mean about him so you don't think i'm just being a twat over nothing as i didn't really go into it before. This is what he can do:

-has known all lowercase letters for months
-knows almost all capitals too now
-can spell his name, mummy, hello, cat and dog from his head (ie with no letters in front of him) and can read them
-he can type said words on my mac (which has caps on keyboard)
-he knows the initial letter of friends and family names - including random people at nursery
-he can sound words out but is only just starting to understand that he can then read the resulting word iyswim? like, he would sound out l-o-v-e for example but doesn't always get that that says love

he's been interested in letters for ages but now is quite scary how quickly he's learning now, he seems to remember the most random things even if i've only just mentioned them once. ie i told him weeks ago that his nursery key worker's name begins with a k and then he remembered it yesterday. he's constantly asking me to 'give him letters'.

he's like this with other things too - eg from about 2yo he could tell us the make of nearly every car that passes.

sorry to go on. i'm not boasting - stealth or otherwise, just trying to explain what i mean about him needing to be kept interested. it can be pretty knackering but less so than him going hyper and silly all the time. am currently delegating to his new buzz words and letters game which has been a godsend [bad mummy emoticon]

off to see a friend the other side of london today. she has 2 DSs a bit younger than my two so will be lovely for them to all play.

oh and my lovely old boss emailed me last night about a job in barcelona! not that i'm going but it was nice to dream...

what are you all up to?

CakeandRoses · 24/10/2011 08:58

don't let tsc see the famous question trudy - she'll trump us all!

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 24/10/2011 09:07

Oh I know for a fact tsc will win in the 'who have you met/who do you know' stakes...

I had a great night - ds2 was awake really, really upset at 10pm. It was very out of character so I gave him some ibuprofen and brought him down for cuddles. He seemed really thirsty, he was pointing frantically to my water so I got him a drink and he settled down. I only had him down for 5-10mins and then took him back up, told him he had to go back to bed, gave him a kiss and left and went to be myself. Didn't hear anything else until 7am when ds1 got up but dh put channel 5 on his iPad and he just watched that lying in bed next to him so I got to stay in bed until 7.50 when ds2 got up!

Only problem is I'm now running late - have the speech and language therapist coming at 10am and we're all in our pyjamas! Blush

WhatSheSaid · 24/10/2011 09:33

Yes, tsc will win on the famous people thing and get me jealous about French footballers

vik G is much more attached to me than dh, she always has been, sometimes on the weekend I go out to shops/library while she's asleep and when I come back and she's awake she's been crying since she woke up cos it's dh there not me Sad. She is getting much better with him and they are developing quite a cute relationship now but it's always me she wants if she's sick, tired etc. A has always been a daddy's girl, we are really close too but she adores her dad.

It's been an amazing couple of days here, Sunday we took the dds down to the waterfront area of the city centre where they have converted various old disused dock type areas into stuff for the world cup so there were bands playing, big new playground, giant paddling pool for the kids, food stalls, tram rides, face painting etc, kids loved it.

Then Sun night was the rugby final, NZ won (just) and the national pride is so tied up with the rugby, everyone is just ecstatic. Today there was a big victory parade in city centre but we thought it might be a lot of standing around with 2 kids (and it turned out about 250 000 people went) so we went to big free concert in park nearby, free ice creams and bouncy castles etc, It was a beautiful sunny day and just a fab time had by all.

Trudyla · 24/10/2011 11:38

So you're all not gonna tell me your famous people stories cos you might lose?

This isn't about winning, it's about entertaining me exchanging exciting stories for the benefit of everyone [hgrin]

mlic Poor W, hope he is better now. M seems really, really thirsty these day.

wss That sounds like a lovely, lovely weekend. I'm all jealous that for you summer is coming up now, while here the dreaded winter cold is setting in. Booh.

cake No advice from me about F I'm afraid, other than I think you should talk to nursery if you're worried they don't deal with him as well as they could.

Are you not even considering Barcelona? Why not?

viksam · 24/10/2011 13:48

trudy I'll play, ummmmmmm dont think i really have seen anyone though, Clint out of pop will eat its self, anyone remember them? Ummmm Vic Reeves at a student bar, thats about it, dont think many rich and famous frequent Somerset or Birmingham, oh yeah i did serve Valery Singleton at my shop and Casandras dad from Only fools and Horses. Pretty crap really. Come on tsc lets have it!!
DH is up stairs finishing the painting and putting up a black out blind in D's new room, i've got to cut the blind in a bit, hope i dont screw it up!!
If i thought i would sleep id put my head down as D is down now but i know i wont, i will rest and eat ginger nut biccis and dring tea though.
dh i can totally understand why u do bring him in to ur bed though if u get another 2 hrs sleep! he doesnt seem to be doing to bad, u could do without falling asleep on the floor though, cant be much good for u!
mylife D also woke at 7.50 in the end so hasnt had a morning sleep, there for he can have an hour and a half now, what do u think was wrong with W last nght?
D has been a real sweetheart today, sleep makes such a differance. Im dreading work tomorrow, im really starting to resent it and not want to be there, i only have 5 weeks left and one of those im on holiday for so its not too bad i suppose.

trudyla Ive met the Stereophonics, The lead singer of a shit band Thom York I think his name is (total knobber), Daley Thompson, Carol Vorderman, Charlotte Church (twat) and Gavin Henson (even bigger twat) The only one I was Stereophonics, I sobbed like a baby afterwards! Hardly big celebs other than them so not something to brag about haha!
vik DH does all the soothing of L, he comes to me if he hurts himself but other than that DH does it, all the bedtime routines and as its nearly bed now he is already standing at the stairgate saying dad dad bed! he will be disappointed when its me taking him up!
Bought L a lovely bookshelf storage thing for his new eoom then get home for my actual gas and electric bills that are £350 and have to be paid before we move! how the actual fuck am I going to find the money? These are the bills I pay and cant ask DH as next week he has the £170 water bill, and £1100 down on the new house and the cost of a sofa to find fuckity fuck!
L has just sat on his nappy box and wee'ed while sporting a potty on his head, then took potty off and said aaaahh! Bit annoyed as he keeps hitting me really hard and kicking when he can, only me though :(

viksam · 24/10/2011 19:29

memphis D does the hitting thing too, then leans in for a kiss, they dont really understand why they are doing it i dont think. L sounds much more forward that D in the talking stakes, in fact a lot of them on here do, D doesnt really say words just loads and loads of babble, he mimmick tone a lot and he will woof when we say what does a dog say, but thats about it. He understands a great deal though, in fact a scary amount. He's in bed now with a tesco own superdry nappy on, please god let it not leak and let him and me sleep, i have work for the next three days and the boss is coming on Wdnesday for my appraisal, rubbish.
Oh poobags he's crying Sad

memphis83 · 24/10/2011 19:57

vik he kisses after too, L also pisses like a camel and one wee fills a nappy, every morning the nappy is so full it wont take another drip, we use asda or tesco, pampers leak and leave L with really bad rashes and huggies legs arent tight enough and the wee just pours out within a couple of hours! L babbles all the time and does all the right noises for expression of emotion, his new word is tractor but its always wow! tractor! some days he hardly talks at all some days we cant shut him up, he says shut door, he doesnt woof though its a weird throaty noise, he attempts to oink, horses make a click noise and everything with wings is a wack wack! Grin his baaaa-ing is brilliant he goes bright red! this thread has made me realise how different all babies are! my 4 mo niece rolled at 11 weeks but still cant hold her head much at all, L held his head my 4 months but didnt roll over til he walked!

DesperateHousewife21 · 24/10/2011 19:59

D took an age to go to sleep tonight, he kept saying duck over and over it's hard not to laugh.

He says a few words now, duck is the clearest but also cat, dog, car, gone, mum, dad and poss more but I can't think now lol. He's getting better every day.

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 24/10/2011 20:02

I'm so jealous you've met the stereophonics memph!

I saw Neil Morrissey in the queue when we were waiting to go into one of the cirque du soleils in one of the hotels (can't remember which one) in Vegas. Met/seen a few footballers but nobody special. Erm...struggling to think of anyone else! Slebness doesn't get me very excited if I'm honest.

I'm with you there on 'he understands so much it's quite scary' vik. ds2 is the same. The speech and language therapist came out to see him today and witnessed just how bad his drooling is. It is all linked back to his feeding issues as a baby she says. He keeps his tongue right back, although he definitely isn't tongue-tied, but he doesn't 'scoop and swallow' he just lets the saliva fall out of his mouth. She also witnessed it catching him unawares and causing him to cough. She isn't worried about anything affecting his speech and she says she's really pleased with his development, it's just a case of having to put up with it until he's old enough to teach him how to do it. She recommended a company who supply bandana bibs for toddlers, as all the ones I've found are really small on him now he's 15 months. The only advice she could give me was to not swipe his mouth/chin to dry him up as you have glands on your jaw line that will produce more saliva if stimulated so just to use a firm 'dab' to keep him dry. She also said he's at higher risk than normal of chest infections from damp chests if I'm not careful over the winter.

W knows ducks go 'cack cack'. He says up, down, hiya, gone, all gone, ere you go, yeah, no, mama, dadadada, nana, anana (banana) uh oh, that, wow, and today he was saying my friend's dd's name (Hattie)

Hope he's settled now vik

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 24/10/2011 20:03

Oh and he says Nala (one of the dogs)

CakeandRoses · 24/10/2011 20:06

bloody nora - knackering day. was waffling to my boss (on handsfree) on the way to my friend's house and missed my turn-off on the m25 and then again on the m4. it was partly me not fully focusing and partly that i'm not used to the sat nav in this car - it's much prettier than the basic one in our old bmw but i never think it's the turning when it is and it doesn't clearly mark the road numbers/junctions. grrrr!! so anyway, it took 2 hours there and just over an hour coming back.

you could be right there tsc. just to be clear, i don't think he is einstein and i don't want special rules for him - i just don't want him driving them crackers at nursery but i take your point - he'll just have to work out that for himself. funnily enough i had a lightbulb moment last night when i realised that for all my reservations about school, it's a big part of life and forming character and memories etc which i wouldn't want to deprive them of. also, it might be just what F needs to keep him busy (and give me a break from all the bloody questions Grin).

vik hope you have a quiet night and a dry nappy (well, not you personally)

trudy nah, i love it here and couldn't face the upheaval, esp for a part-time job! added to which, spain and vegan food are on the best of terms

memphis83 · 24/10/2011 20:17

mlic im not a celeb fan, but I worked in Cardiff so you tend to see quite a lot there, Im the biggest Phonics fan, Kelly spoke to me for a bit and Richard held my hand for ages trying to warm up as it was freezing!
Glad you got a warning before winter sets in with W's chest!
cakes what car is it? can you change the setting on the satnav display to make it clearer? some dealers can do it.

Spoke to DH about the bills, ive had a bit of a panic attack about it, he is going to help pay and we are buying sofa on creditcard to pay off in the new year :(

Confused how the hell has that happened tsc?

Memph glad you've got that bill sorted.

CakeandRoses · 24/10/2011 21:50

fuck no, tsc. not at all!! just told dh what you said actually as it was v helpful and has made my mind up not to say anything to nursery. so thank you - and sorry if i came across snippy. Thanks

i really feel like i'm finally understanding what's he's about and have been managing things v differently since last week. i really enjoyed his company - even his incessant bloody questions - today whereas recently (and i feel terrible saying this) but he was often just wearing me out/doing my head in with his 'genius'/lunatic routine Blush

really crap about your council tax Sad did they screw up? if so, how can they demand you pay so much straight away?!

sounds positive that you've worked something out with dh vik tis bloody expensive these child bearing years. think you just have to take it on the chin for now and hope they support you in your dotage Smile

tis an audi and has loads of settings so i could probably play with it to make it clearer. tbh i have learnt my lesson(s) today so hopefully will pay more attention to it in future.

CakeandRoses · 24/10/2011 21:51
