Hello. Think i was first to deliver off the September EDD thread so waving to see if anyone else out there yet to join me :)
Had my 2nd DD on 26aug by C-sec. We now home but struggling with BF and baby lost 10% body weight in 3days. Started to top up with formula in syringe to try give cracked. Bleeding nipples a rest, but milk is starting to drip out now leaking everywhere! Hoping for a better night tonight after 3nights of hourly feeds and snatching 2-3hrs of sleep.
Anyone else struggling too?

Thanks feral. Glad you had a good bf thing

Jimmi try rugby ball hold. I'm at least a jj if not k cup, have a tiny baby and the rugby ball hold is working really really well. :)

Well we were weighed this morning. Edith has put the 55g back on that she initially lost and put on another 85g so is now 3oz heavier than birth :) yay. Mw checked my episiotomy wound and it's all good. There is a tiny gap where they didn't stitch close enough so hence why it feels like it's coming apart at times, it actually is! But mw reckons it will heal ok and will check again on Monday when I see her next. :)

Lovely pics 100yrs Edith real sweetie and love the blanket.

Think I've sussed how to make pic of my 2girls visible I'd forgotten to check the bottom box. Had stressful morn but having chilled arvo. Babe had gd night but had to leave house by 8.15am again, then had Drs appt but babe needed feeding and there was nowhere private at surgery to do it after faffin receptionist and crying babe I sat in disabled toilet then panicked I'd missed my appt but no the Dr was running half hr late, then babe got hickcups &started crying in reception again. By the time I got out was in desperate need of cuppa so got takeaway, but babe had other ideas so head back to car via pharmacy to feed pack everything in car then drop tea....oooh could of cried was SO in need of that cuppa. Got none of stuff on my shopping list as then only had 10mins to get back to school to get DD1! Plus then had to say gdbye to my mum who heading home tom after being my angel help& taxi driver last 3wks. Was vglad to get home for tea &cake, change babe &feed in peace. Spent most of arvo on sofa watching my DD1 play schools &putting on dance show :o

Hi ladies - glad to be on the other side at last ! Still in hospital in post natal ward but it's a temporary one as they are refurbishing the maternity hospital in stages so am very lucky as I have single room that has the most amazing view over Poole harbour - it's stunning and there are only six of us on this ward. The midwives are Angels in disguise and it's such a positive experience so far. Baby sam is a dream. He only cried for a minute at birth and has been quiet since, makes Tiny llittle coos like a kitten but otherwise so chilled and content ( so far !) he has taken to the boob like a pro (alot easier third time round as I am alot less stressed and know it will come in time) Been asleep for the last three hours and has made us all fall head over heels in love with him. His sister and brother are besotted and so is his mum and dad ! Apart from the pain I have very low blood pressure and my temp keeps dropping but other than that I have been up and about already and the catheter is out. Morphine def helps ! hope you are all okay.
Tip for piles - best stuff I have used (prescription only) is proctofoam and proctocydl . Dihorreah (sorry can't spell) makes them worse as do constipation so seek help if it continues. If constipation the best emollient is lactulose. Cool baths help and ice packs to reduce swelling plus lying down as much as possible. X

Hurrah for jimmi, minky and skibummum + all the nooby babies. Lovely to hear so many positive experiences.

Nothing very exciting to report here except an awesome night's sleep. In bed, asleep for 10.30, quick feed at 12.30 then a MARATHON feed at 5.30 and I've just woken up but DD is still sparko on my bed, curled up like a cat.

Also has anyone else got residual pelvic pain? My pelvis is aching like a bugger and woke me up last night. I have been doing lots of housework which I expect has aggravated it but, my god, it's painful. It also occurred to me that birthing in stirrups might have something to do with it?

Oh yeah feral, mine feels worse sometimes than it did while pregnant. Sad

I've got a temp today so got to try get app with the doc this afternoon. Feel yukky. Episiotomy site seems fine, boobs little bit sore, not sure if wee is cloudy but something is making me feel rubbish.

Thought we were in for a bad night last night as she had slept loads in the day and we hadn't had chance to rest coz of visitors. Mad few hours till 12 with lots of wind, big poo and some sick. Then we were only up at 4 and 7!!!! Good baby.

OH has gone off to get a few bits for us so it's home alone for an hour or two. Which is fine. She's awake now and I'm trying a few black n White toys on her but not sure if she even knows what I'm doing!

Got some anti-biotics. I've either got a virus, which obviously the abs won't work for, or I have possibly endometriosis, which is what the abs are for. Feel absolutely shocking.

She also checked my episiotomy cut and declared it to be gaping about 1.5 cm and she's not sure it'll heal :( oh deep joy. No wonder it feels like it opens when I move.

Just feeding LO then it's off to bed. Fingers crossed I feel better thru the night. My OH will be on baby passing duty in the night.

I swear I'll do a catch up when I feel better. Miss chatting a bit and knowing what's all going on, but it's worth it. Each time I look at LO my heart melts, even when I can't stop shivering.

Ooh gosh 100yrs hope the antibios kick in soon and your night goes ok. I had mastitous with DD1 at 10d was dreadful I went down hill so fast shivering, flu symptoms luckily the MW came to discharge me took one look at me got a prescription over the phone which my DH went &got and with in 6hrs on dble dose I started to feel better. I been watching like a hawk this time for symptoms as had funny shivering turn at day 6/7 overnight was all peculiar no idea what it was mini fever the works but it passed. DH thought it might been shock or spinal drugs. Anyway I'm rambling. Had gday mostly cause DH is around now for a wk to look after DD1 :) so I can rest more &enjoy babe who is lovely and SO chilled out compared to DD1. We can't believe how easy she is, no hours of exhaustint screaming at night which we endured last time. Neither of us had any idea a baby could be this 'easy' compared to our first experience, I pray it stays this way!
Hope you all have gd sleep tonight x

Feral- do u let LO sleep in ur bed @ night? ds1 did with us cus he was clingy from wen he was born and even hv sympathised. This time around i let ds2 sleep in moses basket til he wakes up in night then he spends the rest in our bed & sleeps like a dream only waking up about 3 times 4 a feed & not crying.
100 that sounds horrible!!! Such a special time, illness is 1 of the last things u need!!
Dd& ds1 have started 2 get used 2 ds2 & r getting back 2 their usual excitable selves (theyre 5 & 3)
lo is such an angel i'd love a dc4!!!! After us insisting ds1 & then 2 would b our last!! Dont think dh so keen on the idea tho :'( in 2 or 3 yrs perhaps i'll manage 2 persuade him ;-)

Bavk pains horible (prob caused by failed epidural) it feels like being pregnant again, dont suppose u have sny suggestions 4 easing it pls? (dd was elcs after gas & air + pethadine, ds was vbac just with gas & air, so iv not experienced this b4)
Well dun skibum

100years, that sounds awful! My episiotomy gaped with DS1 so I know what it feels like. Mine did heal by itself but left me with some rather odd bits of extra skin! I'm really hoping that they've managed to cut me in the same place again this time and stitch it all back together; I've not had the nerve to investigate yet! I really hope your antibiotics do the trick for your fever.

Jimmi, DD is sleeping in with me atm, mainly because I'm too lazy to get her in and out of the hammock and she settles much quicker next to me (plus I loooove snuggling up to her and sniffing her head!) I have kicked DH out into the spare room though as we've only got a normal double bed I don't trust him not to squish her. I swore we'd get a king-size before we had another kid but we never had enough money.

Funny isn't it, how much more chilled these second (or third) DCs are? Do you think it's them that are easier or us that are more laid back and less PFB? I have to say though, I am dreading DH going back to work and having to look after both DCs on my own. How am I going to get dinner on the table for DS whilst DD is howling to be fed?

Thanks everyone.

Feral it's good to hear someone who did heal with a gaping cut.

I'm not (and neither was the doc) wholly convinced with the endometriosis diagnosis, she seemed a bit stumped and said it sometimes happened after birth. I'm not sure it might just be engorgement but my right boob is now a bit tender so it could be the start of mastitis I'll see how it is in the morning.

Managed 2 lots of 90 min sleep since last post Grin good baby tonight thankfully, mind you she's not really been much bother at any point. Smile

we had mixed night babe seems to have most nights couple of crying unsettled hrs normally 9-11pm last night I thought we weren't going to gave them so went to bed at 10pm after a fed but alas she kicked off 10.46pm until 2am :( was exhausted by the time she settled on the bed next to me that will teach me for not having q nap earlier to get some sleep in mummy bank

Turns out I am suffering from a touch of baby brain - doc said endometritis not endometriosis, well the endometritis thing makes much more sense now. Feeling a lot better today than I was yesterday, managed a few hours kip last night and woke up in a right sweat, boob no worse, just a bit tender on the one side so I keep rubbing it.

Birth story:

So the plan was to try gas and air and tens machine through labour and to try and remain as mobile as possible. Natural third stage and breast feeding within the first hour. Here is what actually happened!

Thursday saw me wake up with regular tightenings I was still in bed but thought if I was doing something I would need to stop doing it. And occasionally it took my breath away. But the tightenings weren't painful. Nonetheless I was aware of them and let family know what was going on. All day long I kept getting these tightenings/ pains but wasn't convinced that this wouldn't stop. I timed them for a while and they were at a regular 15 mins in the day, getting slightly more frequent in the evening. Bath and an attempt at an early night. I still wasn't hugely convinced things were happening as I hadn't been in real pain through the day.

2:18 I woke from sleep and bam, wtf oh now 'that's' a contraction. OH (P for purposes of this) woke almost immediately and after 10 mins and a wee I had had 3 contractions. I ran a bath and had 10 mins in it before getting out and getting the tens put on. Timed the contractions and although they weren't all at 3 mins the ave was 3 mins between them. Rang the hospital, coping fine with the pain using tens so was told I could go in or wait. Decided I'd have some food and go in after that. Rang my sister (B for the purposes of this) as she was going to be birth partner too and had some toast. After 1/2 hr or so rang the hospital again and said I was going in. Middle of the night so we were there in no time. Examined and monitored and was 3cm. Was told I could stay but go to ante natal ward but best was to go home as I was coping well with the tens.

B had arrived by this point so we all headed to ours. P went to try to sleep for a bit as we knew things were progressing and we all felt it was better that he rested as much as possible. B and I tried watching a DVD and this kind of failed. The pains were getting stronger and more regular and ended up with a few swear words while they were happening. Had another bath and things got more painful and more and more regular to the point where B was predicting when the next one would come! Out of the bath and woke P up. Got dressed with some help and rang the hospital again to say we were going in.

By this time it was about 8:30 and so the worst possible traffic time in the world. But we made it there in about 20-25 mins or maybe longer I'm not sure. All the while the pains kept up and the tens was being turned up more. Arrived at the hosp and went to triage and was told to wait in the waiting room for '2minutes' this turned into at least quarter of an hour and I was at the door doing the whole try try breathe through the contraction thing.

We were then taken through for me to be examined and was by this point 4-5 cm with bulging waters so then waited for a midwife to take me through to the delivery room. The walk through was not pleasant and I walked as fast as I could between the contractions and hung onto the desk halfway there when I got a contraction.

Into the room and on the monitor and I was then given gas and air. Sucked away on it feeling high as a kite at the end of each contraction but not feeling the benefit of it during, other than a way to control my breathing. The tens machine was by now on continuous boost and on full whack. And I was thinking how much the pain would get worse so I said 'I think I'd like to try something else now' they asked what i wanted and B said about pethidine but that I was strongly opposed to an epidural because of my history of headaches and migraines. Anyway they said I couldn't have anything at that point as Edith was sleepy and they needed to check she was ok, give it 20 mins and if no probs then I could have some. During this time they asked me to move position, up till now I'd been on my back as it was the most comfy position, weird as I had no inclination to get on a birthing ball or stand as I thought I would have done. So I lay on my side and that still wasn't waking Edith up enough for the pethidine. The question as to what I wanted was asked and I do remember saying I would have anything! Really though I'm so glad I'd so strongly gone against an epidural in my birth plan and when telling P and B about things I would and wouldn't want, that B said again about pethidine and no epidural. Edith still wasn't waking so I was given a bag of fluids, check again in 20-30 mins see how we are doing. She did wake during the fluids but they wanted me to wait longer to check her. I wasn't demanding the pain relief it would have just been nice to have some extra.

It was during the '20' mins that my contractions changed from just pain to real pressure and a pushing feeling. I thought there was no way I'd be at that stage. We hadn't been there long enough. But 3 contractions later my waters broke mid contraction! It was 11:55 I was then examined after my sister explaining to the midwives that I actually could be that far as she had had a very speedy labour jumping from 4 to 10 much faster than predicted. The midwives were not convinced I was feeling pressure up till that point. Anyway checked and I was 9cm with the mw possibly able to push the rest away to 10. The other mw checked and in that contraction I went to 10cm. 12:20 and 2nd stage officially begins!

At this point I moved onto my hands and knees to try help Edith out but this was not working and after a while they decided I was better in my back so I turned over again and was aware that things were being mentioned about her heart rate dropping in the contraction but was ok between and was put into the stirrups(lithotomy position?) I was pushing and they started to see hair but I wasn't getting her out alone without it causing a drop in heart rate. The doc then said about ventouse and started to get stuff ready saying she would do an episiotomy first and go from there. All this seemed to take forever and I was a bit confused about the time due to the heart rate concerns and wasn't sure how bad it was.

Between a set of contractions the doc injected local anaesthetic and did the cut. The next contraction, push and I felt her head 'pop' out, then another bit of her then the rest of her. All during one contraction. Wow. Born at 13:36 She was put onto me all slimy, the mw said that bit was good for my skin and to rub it in. I just lay and looked at my baby daughter. P cut the cord and she was given to a paediatrician who was by this point in the room. I asked if she was ok, and was told yes. She came back to me and we had a few photos and I managed to get her to feed at 14:00.

During the labour I didn't converse and was kind of focussed on just getting through it all. I got quite spaced out on the g&a at times which was lovely but only came when the contraction ended!  And my sister said there was much less time resting between contractions than the pain I was having so I was pretty much constantly in pain till right before the last few pushes. I wasn't begging for the extra pain relief and pretty much gave up the gas towards the end when I was pushing proper. I remember P or B saying to see about switching the tens machine off as they didn't think it was having an effect, this I managed to say no to.

My official first stage labour lasted 3hrs and 1 minute and the second stage was 1hr 16 minutes. Like I said officially 4 hrs but the 'reality' was a little longer. But they don't class it as labour till 4cm. So it was fast and very intense once it got going.

So as per the plan tens and gas and air, but definitely not mobile through it! But that's fine. Would I change what I did. No, I was more comfortable than I was when I was on my feet and it worked for me. I'm really glad I didn't have any extra pain relief, for a start it was that quick it may have affected her straight after birth, secondly I can say i did it with gas and air and tens! and I'm so glad I had expressed my wishes so strongly re epidural before the birth, I think when it actually came down to it, if they had actually talked about doing one I would have said no, the 'I'll take anything comment' was a kind of flip this hurts get rid if it, but actually going through with an epi would have meant consent and I am sure I would have then reasoned with myself as I was having doubts in my mind (why did i say 'that') about having said what I did but couldn't express this and am grateful to B for being so clear for me. I didn't get the natural third stage due to the episiotomy, but I knew that was always a possibility. And I managed to feed within the first hour :)

Both P and B were amazing throughout. I can't begin to say how amazing they were. I needed them and they were just there. B wants to be a midwife. I bloody well hope she gets on a course soon, she would be fecking awesome. I was at the birth of both of B's girls and she always says how much I helped her, it's hard to comprehend how much someone means that you helped them, until you've been in that situation, I only hope I helped her half as much as she helped me. P, well he's just wonderful and will be a great dad to our daughter.

I don't remember the rest of the afternoon as easily. My blood sugar took a dive twice once in delivery room an then again on the ward, and at one point on the ward I thought I was going to pass out. But my sis and P both had holds of her and looked after her. We fed again before being taken to the ward.

Due to the fact she was so little and below the 10% weight line on my personalised growth chart she had to have blood sugar check every 3 hrs for her first 24 hrs, but they were all good and she was ok with the stick every few hrs. We had 2 nights in hosp as we needed to see a wet nappy which may have happened before but had been missed due to 2 massive poos! But we came home early on Sunday morning :)

This time I've found it easier I've forced myself to just clear the schedules and just think about babe& feeding& sleeping most of last 3wks as I know it won't last forever. Gd luck, hope u can get some rest between feeds. And cake, I've eating lots of cake :o

I'm now trying to wean myself off the bourbons biscuits, was eating 2-4 at every fed, thats 8-10 feds a day not good way to lose the large bum! I've gone cold turkey today as biscuits ran out I'm trying Brazil nuts for crunch &yogurt covered raisins for sweet working so far....but I've had lots if rest today and I have 100x more will power when not exhausted. I've really been struggling with giving my vhigh energy attention seeking DD1 then attention she needs. The stress of her startin school this wk and mummy "always feeding babe" has been getting to her and I don't have the energy to be as patient as normal. I did bath, PJs &stories with her tonight and taking her to dance class tom so hopefully that will help But I've found the dynamics of two harder than I thought. Hoping it settles down more as DD1 settled in school ft.

Had to use shields all the time with DD1 - no latch - so trying to resist as this one is doing so well with her latch. The problem is boobs so big and her mouth so tiny she's opening so wide but still not getting that much in. Hoping it will settle soon. That cream is a lifesaver.

Having similar experiences going from 1-2 children. DD1 is 2.7 and being a madam today! Sent my mum home yest but just got her back from tmw as need more hands on deck.

I've had lots of help this time from my mum &DH as just couldn't manage DD1 on my own. Today been better we at 3wks now and I took DD1 to dance class, and babe on my own, fed whilst waiting outside class and we went to a cafe alone after as DH had to work this morn. Felt proud of doing it myself, crazy how little trips like that take lots confidence in early weeks :) intend to rest this arvo as forcing myself to take it slowly as C-sec heals.
