evening. Thanks for much for the good wishes. Funeral went as well as can be expected. Alice was an absolute star - so good. She lay in her pram for the whole service awake but in silence - she has NEVER done that before Shock . I got so many comments on how they couldn't believe how well behaved she was Grin [proud] . I get nervous giggles at the most inopportune moments and spent the whole time worrying Alice would start blowing masively loud raspberries and that it would make me get a terrible loud giggle fit Confused . Thank goodness I didn't.

choc / delia you must be more popular than the rest of us Wink . I've never been to a hen party - it's not really my thing [unsociable old woman] . I bet if ledkr wasn't on holiday she'd have a fair few good stories to tell from the many wild hen parties I imagine she's been on.

delia thanks so much for your pm - will reply soon. Can't help re: weaning afraid as we are yet to do lumps/meat. We have been giving alice fresh peach slices but dh holds the end so she doesn't choke [pfb]

ponyo not trying to pester but did you measure the moby? walking alice around the house to sleep seems to be working quite well at the min. Btw that kind of thing happens to me (the watery eye) it's so Blush isn't it

Very Envy of this aquarium talk - dh and I were wondering about going to one a few weeks ago but was completely Shock at how ££ they are

Still awaiting my students' GCSE results but apparently only 58% got A-C in my subject which is frustrating as I've only EVER had one student get less than a C [sigh] . Clearly I'm better than I thought Wink

deb molars??? I thought the front top/bottom came first

wigglesrock · 25/08/2011 21:39

debka I think Anna might be getting her side teeth first. I can see her teeth underneath the gums but no breakthrough yet. Olivia got her first tooth a week after her first birthday Hmm

ponyo Sainsburys are doing a six pack of mini breadsticks. Its really handy for out and about. Yay to the fish Grin

NeedToSleep lovely photos, hadn't seen that latest ones.

Reastie glad today went well and Alice was a star. Hopefully you can get some rest tonight xx

If anyone is interested - I'm sure we don't need to buy anything more for the babies Grin Asda's Baby and Toddler event is on again after the Bank Holiday - they are reducing Ella pouches for any of us that need to stock up for the next 18 years Grin

ILovePonyo · 25/08/2011 21:50

reastie am so so pleased for you that A was a little star today, they really can do you proud can't they. Hope you're feeling ok (as can be) now. Did you sort things out with dh by the way? Have measured moby and it is the correct length :) will pm you in a mo.

Thanks wiggles, yay to the fish indeed! Re: teeth, I know that gums are meant to be hard before teeth come through but all of dd's feel hard Confused I somehow doubt she's getting the full set. I didn't get a tooth until I was 14 months I think so might be a while.

I forgot to mention about dd eating some puree - we didn't give her bonjela or teething powder beforehand - so there health visitor Grin

Iamjustthemilkmachine · 25/08/2011 21:51

Reastie glad today went well and you both behaved. It's amazing how sometimes even babies are awed by ocassions.
I'm not knitta anymore as i havent actually knitted in months...
Debka ikwym re being left in peace, and you have it much harder than me, i shouldn't complain, just have v little patience these days...
I said...

reastie · 25/08/2011 21:54

ponyo forgot to say before but I was told not to use bonjela etc before feeds as it can numb the tongue which can make eating/sucking milk harder Hmm

ILovePonyo · 25/08/2011 21:57

See reastie that makes sense to me, plus you wouldn't be able to taste much f you'd just had a mouthful of bonjela surely? But dp wouldn't listen when I said that b'cos the health visitor had said it Hmm

MizK · 25/08/2011 22:26

Glad today went smoothly reastie gold star for Alice.....

ponyo love the anti hv overtone to your post, if dp keeps sticking up for her may I suggest the following witty yet cutting remark - 'If you love the hv so much why dont you marry her?'. :)

ooh needto will peek at your pics in a min!

Anyone still using a bumbo? DP was witness to Cass actually escaping from hers today - she levered herself out using her baby gym the wily minx. So my one way to keep her prisoner whilst I do my hair and face in the morning is scuppered. Just a warning to anyone counting on the bumbo to contain their little angel!

Hello everyone else, hope all had good days....

WeAreBorg · 25/08/2011 22:54

mizk Nate escaped from his, he levered himself out and I checked the box but there is a disclaimer that it might not restrain them! He was littler and skinnier when he did that though!

ponyo your photos are lovely, Anya is beautiful and very exotic looking, I hope your DP is ready to fend off the lovestruck boys when she's a teen. I have ignored everything my HV has ever said, usually to do with leaving my baby alone to cry. Er no thanks

tadjennyp · 26/08/2011 06:05

Glad the funeral went well reastie and Alice was a little star for you all.

Hello cler, nice to hear from you. Not on facebook much any more. I would spend even more time on the internet otherwise!

I hope all the babies are still asleep. Going to bed now as shattered after this morning's spin class. Hope you all have lovely days.

debka · 26/08/2011 06:17

Morning all

Been awake since bloody 5am, S has this thing where she wakes and has a bit of a cry between 5 and 6 ish- not hungry, if I get her up she's still tired, so I leave her and she goes back off after a bit. Wakes me up though and then DH's snoring stops me from getting back to sleep Angry. Wish we had a bigger house where I could put her a bit further away so she wouldn't disturb me. Sigh. O well, am up and showered and dressed and ready.

reastie glad it went well, that'll be a weight off your mind now. And v well done Alice!

Those of you talking about HVs- when do you see them? Are they still visiting you? Or are you really good and taking your LOs to the baby clinic? I've not seen a HV since S was teeny.

Imy got her first teeth at 4mo so I'm surprised S hasn't got any yet. She soaks her t-shirts down to the hem in dribble though! DH is convinced when she chewed on his finger he felt sharp pointy bits at the back. I am so unconvinced!

borg what was the disturbance?

debka · 26/08/2011 06:22

tad! Just missed you! Have a good night! xxx

debka · 26/08/2011 06:27

Bean just had another little moan- think she sounds snotty too (as much as I can tell through a closed door!). What do you do when your LOs are coldy, esp in the night? Imy's always been super healthy and slept through the night regardless (including a couple of memorable wake ups when I went in and she was covered in sick! Didn't call for me in the night though Confused).

janedoe25 · 26/08/2011 07:30

Morning girls,

reastie im glad yesterday went well, i hope you managed some sleep and well done to super star Alice!

borg what's the goss with the desturbance?

waving to tad, hope you are well.

Emski76 · 26/08/2011 08:09

Just had a quick read thru.
Reastie, glad it went as well as it could yesterday, and well done to Alice for best behaviour.

Talking about escaping babies, Noah has a donut ring with toys attached to it and now throws himself out of it, he also pulls his baby by down on top of himself and gets wrapped up in the bottom of it! He is so freakishly strong, it's scary!

Noahs had his first meat this week. My sis made and pureed him shepherds pie, he loved it. I added more potato to it as he likes his food quite lumpy. He also has mammas spaghetti Bol yesterday and wolfed it down!

Dh has had some long work days this week, nd worked nights last night and will do again tonight, he's asleep in Bens bed at the moment, Ben is at in laws. Can I just moan at mil babying dh? As he working long hours etc she's been saying he must get his sleep, making him packed lunch for work etc. She's really helpful but takes the responsibility away from him, ifkwim. We've barely seen him this week but in her eyes that's ok ad long ad he's alright. He does work hard but he's 36 ffs and can take care of himself (ok maybe not).

Am taking Noah swimming this morning. Better go as Noah seems intent on destroying his play gym.

Hope all ok. Have good days

reastie · 26/08/2011 08:11

thanks guys Grin I didn't sleep that well last night but maybe tonight I will manage it

deb I see a hv every month as I go to the baby clinic to have her weighed. I don't always actually ask them for any advice, just let them write in the red book the weight, and some of the clinics they have well meaning old lady volunteers doing the weighing who love cooing over the babies, so you only get to see a hv if you specifically ask to see one. They told me to go every month, which I do but tbh I don't think they are overly bothered about it.

HV advice really seems to differ loads doesn't it Hmm borg my hv was opposite of yours re: crying in cot

mizk we still use a bumbo sometimes, but we usually put the tray on. I can't actually see how she'd free herself from that Hmm

knitta milkmachine how's things with you and dh?

Off to pick up a second hand musical type play table thingy today for ALice, will report if it's any good.

Oh, a slight tmi question. Those of you that have periods back - before you got your period did you get lots of discharge in the few weeks before first? Blush . It's just I felt really pmty hormonal for a week or so about 2/3 weeks ago, then got the tinseyist bit of bleeding and then since then have had quite a bit of discharge (got nothing since birth really) every day. I'm wondering if my body is getting in gear and next month I'll get an actual period or if people got this ages before periods actually came back Hmm . This would be typical as we have just booked a holiday for next month and I'm not looking forward to the first post birth period (esp considering I have a coil to make them heavier Confused )

janedoe25 · 26/08/2011 08:26

reastie sorry no advice about periods. Where are you off to on your holiday?

emski Shock at Noah jumping out of his ring!

reastie · 26/08/2011 08:31

jane just off to devon for a week (hopefully). I'll bet you now that I get a massive period all the way through now though Hmm Shock . Which reminds me (the devon bit, not the period bit Wink ) wonder if byrons back in greece yet

ems alice has suddenly become freakishly strong in the past few days - she kicks me all the time on her changing mat when I change her nappy and it actually quite hurts Confused and her legs are so strong when she stands up

Deliaskis · 26/08/2011 09:45

reastie my first period, although I'm not sure that's what it was, was so tiny as to be barely there really. So I was a bit surprised as everybody had said how horrendous it was going to be. Then the month after I got a 'proper' one, which was heavier than usual, and now they're about normal. Not sure if the first one was really one or just a random nothing thing. Don't really remember much discharge in between either... [monumentally unhelpful icon].

Deb C is doing the exact same thing re waking between 5 and 6, and usually going back off again (sometimes after dummy run). It's not actually a massive problem, it's just a bit annoying as it's hard to settle back when you are waiting for the alarm afterwards (as in for DH to get up for work, and, well, for me now as well). I'm just trying to mainly ignore, but not sure if it can be helped/solved in any way.

Ponyo I think it was re work/nursery etc. glad it helped, I really have had a lovely week and it hasn't been nearly as stressful as I thought. My Mum also has been saying for months '...hmmmm I think you'll be very tired going back full time'...[unhelpful comment when we have no choice] and actually I'm the opposite, have loads more energy, nothing like as drained at the end of the day.

Have told them to give her a bit less to eat today tho, I think they gave her more like when I would call a toddler portion, and she did 3 enormous poos in one day on Tuesday, but hardly ate anything.

She's only in nursery Mon and Fri, and at GPs in between, so I think she gets a nice mix. The trickiest thing for me tho is packing the right stuff for the right place - nursery need empty bottles but no nappies, my Mum needs everything including toys and pram, DH's Mum needs empty bottles, porridge and changing bag..... blah blah, have you all fallen asleep with boredom yet?

Dx

Deliaskis · 26/08/2011 09:46

PS Has anyone else had to totally give up carrying baby in car seat? It totally wrecks my back and so am now putting seat in the car and putting baby into car separately.

reastie · 26/08/2011 09:55

d can you have 3 seperate bags with everything ready for each ocassion ie one bag for mil/one for your mum and one for nursery? Then you just need to clean and add correct bottles/top up nappies etc into each bag? Might save a bit of time having to reorganise one bag each evening and a great excuse to buy more bags Grin FWIW I never really carried alice much around in her car seat because of my dodgy back, but no way could I do it now. I have to lift her in her seat from the car onto the travel system and back again which is hard enough Confused

Deliaskis · 26/08/2011 09:59

reastie can't really do that re bags cos of the sheer volume of bags that would be required overall! I would need a new room just for Claudia's bags and 1/2/3 of sets of things!

janedoe25 · 26/08/2011 10:27

delia can you buy some nappies/food to leave at the GP's house?

reastie devon sounds fab Envy. My first period after giving birth was mega, but after that they are normal. Although I now don't have cramp as bad as I used to have it!

WeAreBorg · 26/08/2011 10:33

Morning all,

delia I always carry him to the car or use the travel system. My parents and ILs went a bit crazy and bought pretty much everything in duplicate including cots. But not prams, that would have been a bit weird.

reastie I guess you can get discharge from hormonal disturbances, e.g. more around ovulation etc. so that would make sense. As long as it's not whiffy I would say hormones and normal.

deb I go to the HV to get N weighed. She usually points out that I don't need to get him weighed and then reminds me that I don't need to come until he is 9 months. She then asks me questions and gives advice that I haven't asked for which I ignore. I think she thinks I have some hidden agenda like maybe I'm depressed but I genuinely just want a weigh-in.
When Nate is ill (well the one time he was ill) he is just hopeless and needed to be held the whole time, he didn't sleep at all.

Well the curious incident of last night wasn't that exciting; there is a patch of land outside my house where various courting teens, ladies of the night and the occasional tramp hang out. Last night there was some kind of love triangle going on, it was very shouty and a girl kept screaming. I went out as did my neighbour to investigate, and they buggered off. I actually want to know which lad she chose, so I'm sort of hoping they come back tonight but maybe a bit earlier.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 26/08/2011 10:47

reastie glad you're okay, sounds like Alice was a star Smile. Ooh, Devon sounds great, hope youll have all have fun and no stress!

Agree with Jane re first period, it was horrid! I've had probs with discharge since having the coil in, so much that I asked for a test to see if I had an infection but no, maybe its related to the coil??

delia I'm with you on the carseat, my back hurts enough as it is. Agree with Jane (again!) about leaving stuff at your parents, I've done that with almost everything so I don't have to always carry stuff around with me and can pop in and not worry about it being feed time etc. Hope work is going well.

debka · 26/08/2011 13:11

Blooming knackered here now. S has full-on cold, snotty and miserable, Imy still snotty and miserable. Dosed the pair of them up with calpol and they're both asleep in bed now, long may it last! Really ought to close my eyes myself too...

reastie I noticed a lot of discharge a week or so before my 1st period. Getting the same again now (nice), so I'm wondering if #2 is on its way.

jane it's so bloody sh!t (as delia would say) that you have had to give birth and deal with periods after etc and no baby to hold now. Every now and then it strikes me how lucky I am and I think of you with sympathy. Can I send you a hug?

I was thinking of byronic today, hope she comes back on soon.

Mmmm borg sounds like you live in a nice area Grin
