Clarkiee I'm not looking forward to the hair falling out stage! My hairdresser said it normally happens around 3/4 months after birth or a trauma.

moomin156 · 26/07/2011 15:07

I think the hair thing is due to the fact it gets thicker with the pregnancy hormones or something like that. I have to say my hair looks thicker than ever at the minute and very shiny. Less greasy as well and we are 18 weeks down the line

Moomin is correct, pregnancy hormones stops your hair falling out so you find your hair is thicker during pregnancy and then it'll start falling out again.
I remember just before I went back to work, I got a cut and colour. DS was 8mo, and I left him with his dad while I went to the hairdresser and she asked me how old my baby was - I hadn't even mentioned I had a baby! She could tell by my hair that I had recently given birth!! I was very impressed :D

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 26/07/2011 17:39

For some reason my hair falls out during pregnancy. I'm quite enjoying not pulling out handfuls of the stuff right now!

sasamaxx · 26/07/2011 18:15

No probs Nurse

Jasmine Wilkinet are known for having thin straps that are quite diggy and don't have the most comfortable design. Is the 'better baby' sling a ring sling? These are really difficult to use if you're not used to slings and I'd never recommend using the cradle carry as I simply don't feel confident that the position is best for baby's breathing - have you tried an upright tummy-to-tummy carry? Either way, these are not easy slings, nor are they the most comfortable. You'd be better off trying another kind I think Smile
The boob thing wouldn't be an issue with a wrap at all and their head should always be high enough up to kiss.

NurseSunshine · 26/07/2011 18:16

My hair is looking fab at the moment, really thick and bouncy. Not looking forward to the falling out stage though.

Just took dd to baby clinic to get weighed, she is now 11lbs 6oz! She's gone down a centile, have decided I won't worry unless it happens again. The hv is coming next week so hopefully she'll have gained again.

supersunny don't worry I'm not up and about at all, been bit ill and think anything like that really hits you after birth. I have learnt pushing yourself does no good! So as long as you are not feeling depressed, in which case you may need help to get out, then let us take our time! :) I have my mum helping me during the day so I can rest, is there anyone to help you - even a postpartum doula if not?

HalleLouja · 26/07/2011 21:45

Any news from bprincess? I hope she is ok.

Sasa asked gumtree lady for copy of receipt but am yet to hear. So probably dodgy. Good tip.though. thanks.

sasamaxx · 26/07/2011 22:17

Let me know if she gets back to you Hallolouja

Celeste has been really really unsettled today - totally wiped out.

ShazGJ · 26/07/2011 23:35

Kane has been constantly feeding too today think it maybe the hot weather. I am exclusively breastfeeding yet came on my period yesterday, right on time as per pre pregnancy cycle! Good job bedroom action hasn't been on t cards and we didn't rely on bf as protection like it says u can in t post preg contraception leaflet! How can my body be ready to conceive again so quickly I only gave birth just over 4 weeks ago?!?

Beginning to see some sort of routine e
emerging with daytime naps and night feeds. But in the morning and before bed he tends to cluster feed.

Merlion · 27/07/2011 02:25

Supersunny I did way too much in the first couple of weeks after birth as I felt great and dd was a dream then at 3 weeks the reflux started and it kind of went downhill. I say take all the time you need to get out and about. I can't believe how much quicker time seems to be going compared to how it was with ds.

Nurse don't worry about the weight. I drove myself crazy worrying about ds who did drop 2 centiles but he's hardly budged from that line 3 years on so was obviously just finding his line.

sona2025 · 27/07/2011 02:26

My apologies for not name checking as had a really difficult day and on my phone now.
Junior has had a stuffy nose for more than 2 weeks (he was less than 3 weeks when it started). I have been using saline drops with no much benefit. Last night he brought up some milk and then choked, his nose was so blocked and he stopped breathing for less than 2 seconds, managed to go back to breathing after putting him upright. He looked pale, started waving his little arms and legs and there was so much panic in his face and it felt like the most horrible 2 seconds in my life. We ended going to a&e after consulting the out of hours GP (who was not that helpful).
Has anyone had something like this with their LO?, how can I help him?. We went to the GP yesterday before this , as I was worried his difficult breathing was stopping him from feeding at night (he only feed once now, less than 7 minutes, he used to feed 4-5 time before) and they said they cant prescribe anything because of his age and just do the steam and saline drops. Now, I cant go to sleep for the fear he will choke in his sleep and has been awake with him all night last night and tonight, he almost had another episode this evening. I am thinking of seeing the GP tomorrow and demanding an urgent referral to a specialist. Could some kind soul reassure me please, will it get better? What do I need to do?

Merlion · 27/07/2011 02:27

Shaz eek am not looking forward to that! Last time it didn't come back till ds was about 10 months.

Merlion · 27/07/2011 05:59

Sona sorry x posted with you. No words of wisdom I'm afraid but a big hug to you. Must have been horribly scary. Only advice would be as you are doing to get it checked out can you see a paediatrician?

milliemuffin · 27/07/2011 08:31

Morning all! I've finally got round to looking at this thread and already there are 7 pages of posts!

I'm in hospital waiting to have a d&c done as I've still got some retained placenta and I'm still bleeding and losing clots every day.

Hope you're all ok and babies are well, I'll try and catch up soon xx

moomin156 · 27/07/2011 08:33

sona that sounds awful and so scary. Im afraid i cant reassure you as i have no experience.....but sending you reassuring hugs.
shaz im with you, they started 4 weeks after dd was born and continue to rota. I was xpressing as dd a premmie but since then have been bf.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 27/07/2011 08:49

Sona - how scary for you! ONly suggestions I have is to prop the head of the cot or moses basket on books to raise it and maybe think about getting a humidifier?

Supersunnyday - 2.5weeks is still very tiny, so don;t worry about getting out yet!

sasamaxx · 27/07/2011 09:06

Sona that does sound worrying - what did the out of hours GP say? Babies do make all sorts of strange noises and do strange things, but they will realise that their mouths can breathe instead of their noses when blocked up even if it seems they don't know this. I asgree with propping up a bit and carrying upright.

ShazGJ · 27/07/2011 10:22

Sona - my mum said when my nose was blocked when I was a few weeks old she rubbed Vaseline above the bridge of my nose and it helped to clear it. You could also try melting some menthol crystals in hot water and just put them in the same room as your LO.

moomin156 · 27/07/2011 10:43

Sona can you actually see if its bogies that are blocking the nose. My friend swears by this gadget from boots nasal aspirator , she says she gets huge bogies out of DDs nose with it when she is blocked up. Might be worth a try if it is

Clarkiee · 27/07/2011 12:27

Yeah heard that the hair thing was hormonal (I grew lots of extra hair when I was pregnant) and the 3/4 months after giving birth fits in merlion Shock at your hairdresser kara. Its still getting on my nerves- when will it stop?

Hi supersunny I hardly got out the first month. I'm suprised that your antenatal group are meeting in a cafe- I meet up with a few baby friends but at each others houses lot less pressure than going out in public. You'll have loads of chance to get out and about in a few months. My eldest DD had bad wind and, as I'm 90% breast feeding, I had a look at my diet. moomin suggested that it could be tomatoes so I cut them out and now she hardly get wind at all (might be worth a try) Smile

Hope your LO is okay sona hopefully it was just a one of.

I'm very happy because I didn't let DD's nap too long after the 3/4 o'clockish feed and they both slept really well not waking up too early in the middle of the night and going straight back to sleep after Smile Smile woo hoo hope it continues (no guarrante with babies).

Both babies had good weight gain Naomi is now 7lb13oz (she was originally 3lb9oz) and Ciara is 6lb9oz (originally 2lb 11oz) Grin the size gap has widened up another oz though so might start giving Ciara a fomula feed top up so she can catch up a bit.

Good afternoon Everyone,
Just back from GP and I pushed for a referral to the Paeds ENT, GP thinks it was a one off and I don?t need to worry but I asked to be referred as I am concerned it could be this
www.bbc.co.uk/health/physical_health/conditions/laryngomalacia.shtml
Junior is having this noisy breathing with the blocked nose and yesterday we almost had another episode which was helped by putting him in an upright position. Thanks everyone for the responses and hugs, really needed them.

Shaz: I am not looking forward to having my period back as I struggle with lower back pain when I have them.
Merlion: many thanks for the hug, I really need it
Millie: sorry to hear that, hope it will be ok very soon and all the products are out
Momin: it was very scary, I don?t wish those seconds on my worst enemy. Thanks for the tip, I actually bought it online and just had it delivered yesterday, will see if it will help.
Kara: this is a good advice, I will try it today, many thanks. I will look into the humidifier too.
Sasa: she said I should have called an ambulance and took him to A&E instead of calling her. I said to her he is breathing now and looking normal but I ended driving there anyway as I was worried I might have missed something. As expected they said he was fine and to follow up with my GP etc. I hope he is able to open his mouth next time because he seems to panic and keeps it closed.
Shaz: I will try the Vaseline tonight. Can I use the menthol when he is so young?
Thanks Clarkie. He is breathing slightly better today. looking forward to having long sleep like you Los. Yay for the weight gain

ShazGJ · 27/07/2011 16:24

Sona - don't think menthol will harm him if it's just in the same room as him.
