Hiya, I'm still here, just lurking quietly.
I have met up with Mother and Percy is just fine, and a gorgeous little snortpig of course...but I'll let her update you in her own time. Lisa lives in the same village so I'll see if I can get an update, I'm sure shes just fine and just busy with her 2 DC, especially now its the summer hols.

William is also fine, except that he's turned into a complete maniac when feeding and has left my poor boobs in absolute shreds. I went to a feeding clinic yesterday where all the other babies were tiny and poor feeders and felt a bit guilty to present him by saying 'he's put on 11oz in one week and feeds like every meal is his last'. One of my nipples is bruised and blue. I'm not sure the other is actually still there because he's been clamping his mouth on and pulling it so much it would probably be less trouble to let him pull it off! Anyway, going to get an appointment with a bf councellor to see if she can relax him a bit.

Liking the sleeping bag talk - have been discussing this with DH today because Will is very over the swaddling thing and regularly launches his blankets across the cot. I've got a huge bag of donated ones so will see if any are suitable. What should I be looking for in particular, just a snug size?

PP we were talking about colds in our NCT post natal class today and the course leader suggested taking the baby into the bathroom when you have a shower so that the steam helps their nose but then also feeding them in there too so that they inhale the steamy air while feeding. I hope you LO gets better soon.

DS had a cold 2 weeks ago and we had one night where he could only manage two or three sucks on boob or bottle before stopping screaming. By dawn neither of us had had any sleep and he had only drank about 10% of what he would normally take. I called NHS Direct and started crying as soon as I started talking to the advisor and then when the nurse called me back I did the same thing, I was a tired and emotional wreck all because of a blocked nose Blush

stopping and screaming

motherofsnortpigs · 20/07/2011 20:10

Hello! Sorry for disappearing. I typed too many posts that got swallowed by MN so I flounced off Blush Percy is fine. We saw lisascat on Saturday. Her kitten is a lovely little girl. PP Don't be intimidated by Oxford, although don't expect to find baby changing facilities at any of the colleges. Going to post now for fear of being timed out :)

motherofsnortpigs · 20/07/2011 20:13

Phew. jasmine I've no plans yet for next week - can you squeeze in a coffee?

takethatlady · 20/07/2011 20:56

Congratulations everyone :)

Marking place.

Glad to make it onto post natal! Thanks for the lovely welcomes ladies am really glad to have people to chat to who are experiencing the same sort of things as me. The sleepoing bag debate is going on in thos house dh thinks baby will get too warm in a bag!! He puts baby to bed in a vest and when I get ds up for his feed on the middle of the night o put him in a baby grow! We have this debate every night just wondered what the rest of you do?

curiouselle · 20/07/2011 22:36

ooo it's nice to hear from all the regulars! :)
Emma is too little for bag, she is either in vest with socks or baby gro and with a doubled blanket, our room is warm tho! I was worrying about getting it right when mum reminded me she was born in a house with no heating and was ok! better a little cold than too hot also.

NoToast · 20/07/2011 22:59

Hooray! We're in postnatal, congratulations to all new arrivals. Was looking for us in antenatal, felt a tiny bit envious of all the pregnant ladies- I slightly miss my bump and the quiet.

Rosalind is on her evening grizzles so feeding intermittently and typing.

We had sleeping/overheating paranoia at first- it's not very warm here at the moment so she has a thinnish gro-bag (she kicks off all blankets) and wears a vest and baby gro. She ends up in bed with us after her 5am feed in her bag but doesn't seem to get too hot.

Have booked a haircut for next wednesday, am looking like a tumbleweed and just realised I don't have to go to work and face clients for 5 months so I'm going to make the most of it- a nice punky short cut and maybe even hit the dye.

Wishing you all a good night sleep!

LAbaby · 21/07/2011 03:32

I'm a late starter, but can I join the group? Had no time for mumsnet when I was working. I read through the group on antenatal, wish I'd had time before as seems like everyone else was going through the same things as me.
My lovely little boy arrived a little early on june 28th - he must have sensed I'd finally started my maternity leave! We've been doing well but having a few problems with the breast feeding - there is a lot of milk but he has become quite gassy this week and now has started doing greenish poos - they were yellow before. I hope it's nothing to worry about, he seems well apart from that. Anyone else had this?

LAbaby · 21/07/2011 03:34

Also we've just moved from swaddling blankets to a sleeping bag. I'm overseas but my mum got my some from Primark and they are exactly the same as the grobag ones I had bought - I think they only cost around £8.

Merlion · 21/07/2011 07:19

Hi LAbaby I'm one of the other overseas ones - but on the other side of the world to you! Greenish poo and you saying that you have lots of milk and gas could mean over supply. There is some really useful stuff on the kellymom site if you take a look.

DD still swaddled but thinking of getting the bags out soon. It's 30 degrees day and night here pretty much all year round although of course we do have air-con but it's still well above the recommended temperatures in our/dd's room. From advice given here it is more going from one temperature extreme to another that is a problem.

PP the saline nasal sprays are pretty good for congestion. Re Olbas oil - I think you can get a baby version as eucalyptus is not supposed to be used with babies under 3 months.

We're having good days and bad days with dd's reflux. Yesterday she fed really well and slept well but today is a different story. I have gone dairy free to see if that makes a difference but understand it will take at least a week to get out of my system.

moomin156 · 21/07/2011 08:53

Welcome LABaby and congratulations on your little boy. Add your self to the list :)
Well we used the sleeping bag last night......babygrow and 1.0tog bag, her room is usually about 21' with the window open and she was warm but her hands were like blocks of ice. Mind you she is still asleep now having been fed once overnight at 4.30. She is such a fidgety sleeper and soooooo noisy, i can hear her stretching and moaning. With the freedom of the sleeping bag she is so much worse, thank goodness she is in her won room
Merlion well done you for going dairyfree, it was suggested to me but i couldnt face it, thought i would find it so hard. I think we have turned the corner this week ( 17weeks) and i havent used the gaviscon. Still getting some vomits but im sure no more than other babies. The stressing and straining at the breast is easier and we havent had any ongoing screams for a week. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Moomin thanks for giving me some hope! I'm kidding myself that green and blacks dark chocolate doesn't have milk in it (is just made in the same factory so may have traces a bit like nuts)Smile

KaraStarbuckThrace · 21/07/2011 12:57

Hi everyone, especially to MOSP! Glad to hear little Percy is doing well :)

And congrats to Lisascat!

Welcome aboardl LABaby, feel free to jump in! I agree that you could have an oversupply problem as well, a feeding clinc should help or check out www.kellymom.com for loads of fab advice on breastfeeding.

Cara is in a 1 tog grobag and a vest at night, our room is normally around 21-22 degsC.

Just added a video of C on my facebook page - anyone else's babies do this or similar.

.........and now I have to go and put a nappy on DD2

motherofsnortpigs · 21/07/2011 20:46

Well, I've got beakers of milk sorted for the DDs and Percy is asleep on DH who is reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A chilli is defrosting in the microwave. All is good.

Percy had an ultrasound on his sacral dimple. They checked his whole spine and although the dimple is deep, it doesn't interact with his spine. He has been discharged from the physio but we still have to do exercises on his feet. He has a scan on his hips at the beginning of August and then I'll feel like I can really relax and enjoy him.

I think I must wrap my babies up way too warm. Percy sleeps with vest, babygrow and quite a snuggly (2.5 tog) sleeping bag. DS1 was a winter baby and I would put 2 babygrows on him at bed time and plug in the portable radiator. But then our room is an aging dormer conversion in the roof of our bungalow, so it can be a bit like sleeping in a caravan...

DS1 has the most disgusting cold and spent the afternoon being a little ball of snot and tears. Snot was spread liberally, including on the baby, so I am expecting everyone to be a bit under the weather soon. PP have you propped up the head end of where your baby is sleeping? I have a favourite book for this very purpose (Shopaholic and Baby in hardback is perfect under my moses basket)

Right must go and give the dinner a stir. It's DH's birthday, I think chilli is as hot as it's going to get in the snortpig household tonight. Can anyone else be bothered with any bedroom action? I'm too tired, and still a bit sore 6 weeks on.

curiouselle · 21/07/2011 21:49

ah mosp you can tell you are an experienced Mum, all sounds under control at your house!
With dd1 we feel out of our depth, tired and if I'm truely honest slightly disenchanted :( I really wish I felt better - this morning I put a washing load in and got the shakes from doing too much ugh. poor dh is tired and worried about me, since the difficult birth he has paniced at anything happening to me. It's only 2 half weeks in and we love our spirited emma who is already smiling and can support her head for a minute but who also sleeps little and kicks and screams and feeds a LOT! When do you start feeling slightly adjusted?

LAbaby · 22/07/2011 06:43

Thanks for the welcome. I have posted my green poo question in the breast feeding area, but had a look at that website Merlion and seems like it's nothing to worry about. Poor thing is really gassy though, he surprised everyone in Starbucks today with an enormous fart as I was burping him - I'm sure most of the previously admiring lunchtime crowd thought it was me.
Wow curiouselle how exciting that your daughter is smiling already. My boy is three weeks but only smiles in his sleep so far - I will be giving him intensive lessons when he finally wakes up. I know what you mean about feeling disenchanted. I am still bursting into unpredictable tears at the slightest thing, and my stitches are hurting which doesn't help. I am blaming my tears on sleep deprivation.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 22/07/2011 08:08

LABbaby - my dd also produces the loudest farts (hence her nn of Miss Farty Pants Grin)

And definitely, bf babies do get wind! Think about it.... they breathe while they are sucking so I imagine some of the air does get down the wrong hole! DD certainly produces the most spectacular belches after a long feed!!
Think she is undergoing another growth spurt as she was feeding loads yesterday afternoon and evening and was quite hard to settle last night.
Really pissed off with ds as dd woke me up at 4.30am for a feed and that took an hour and just as I put her down in comes DS who immediately throws a strop because DH is getting up and tells DS to get back to bed Angry
Cue another hour of him tantrumming or just talking away, so no more sleep for me!!

moomin156 · 22/07/2011 08:50

morning everyone......its a definite myth about BF babies and wind.
mosp sounds like Percy is doing great. I think we have a tendancy to overheat dd, mainly due to the fact we struggled for so long when she came home from hospital to keep her warm. At one point she had 12layers of blankets, a reversed princess and the pea :), and a cardi, The outreach team said it was fine lol.
lababy we sometimes still get the occasional green poo, ive never worried about it though. Soon changes back to yellow/brown

I kept neglecting a burp after a bf (cause I didnt think I needed too) and the girls kept puking on me 10 mins later. So no I also burp them- better safe than sorry x

ShazGJ · 22/07/2011 09:55

Can I join? Kane was originally due in July but came 3 weeks early on 23rd June.

Kane usually sleeps in a sleep bag (1 tog) with a long sleeve vest on underneath. I have never been able to swaddled him as he has always wanted to kick his legs. On nights when his sleep bag is in the wash he doesn't sleep as well as cries when he's kicked his blanket off.

We are breast feeding going well but some days he wants to feed every hour to 1 1/2 hours which can be exhausting and sore. Spoke to HV about it and she says it's when he's having a growing spurt. Going to try expressing when he is 6 weeks so DH can maybe do his last feed before bed and if I can store some may help on his feeding frenzy days. Has anyone else tried expressing yet?
