Thornykate I'm not too sure where all the sling info was but this is a really useful site. Have a browse and see what kind takes your fancy. I'm mostly using woven wraps at the moment as I like them best for little babies, but if you're after a buckle carrier, there are some really good ones which seat the baby correctly (knees higher than hips) such as connecta (altho currently closed - you'd need to find a used one) or yamo (I'm selling one of these btw) or manduca
Stretchy slings are good when babies are small, but they loosen off by their nature, and outgrow their usefulness by 5-6mths IMO.
Ring slings have the steepest learning curve so I'd only recommend these to experienced sling-users.
Mei tais are v versatile but it can be tricky to tie them tight enough - good ones include melkaj babyhawk and kozy carrier

Phew!
Any more questions, give me a shout. I'm happy to direct you to 2nd hand sling listings etc or find suppliers Smile

Don't feel bad about the dummy Clarkiee - it saved my life with DD1. I'm only trying to avoid it as DD1 still has hers Shock but I will use one if I need to.

Quite Envy of confessions's feeding pillow.

I hate 'Is baby good?' nonsense too Angry

I agree with ppl about leaving them to cry - young babies simply don't think out of the moment so you can't really teach them anything. They will just feel abandoned and have no idea why Sad

Last night Celeste was wide awake between 2am and 6am - she had 2 green runny nappies like pesto, and was squirming like mad so obv had some tummy troubles going on - poor thing. She's been v unsettled today but nappies back to mustard so assume she's on the mend now.

HalleLouja · 25/07/2011 20:17

What about Ergo slings Sasa? I saw one and they looked good so am considering buying another one. Not sure the Close one is great for my back.

sasamaxx · 25/07/2011 20:42

Absolutely Hallelouja - I have an ergo in fact Grin

I know they do a newborn insert but I haven't used one. IMO the ergo really came into its own around the 8mth mark as prior to this, it is a bit big for small babies. It's an excellent carrier though - correct position and great weight distribution. I was still carrying DD1 in it until I got pregnant.
I think ideally you would keep this until baby is a bit bigger and use some kind of wrap or smaller buckly carrier until then, BUT I didn't have the infant insert so that might make a huge difference.
One thing to note about the ergo is that it has highly padded straps and a thick, stiff waistband which tends to push your trousers down. Lots of people love padded straps, but it does make it less streamlined and more rucsac-like. I still love mine, though and I really wouldn't be without it Wink

sasamaxx · 25/07/2011 20:44

Oh but Don't buy a new ergo from ebay - they are mostly FAKES!!!!
Ergo only sell through a few authorised distributors and they are all sold at a v similar price - any cheap ones will not be genuine and could be dangerous!!!

HalleLouja · 25/07/2011 21:06

I found one gumtree wondering if its genuine. Am tempted to get one though.

sasamaxx · 25/07/2011 21:11

Do they have the receipt? Can you ask where they got it? What colour is it?

HalleLouja · 25/07/2011 21:24

Sasa have pm-ed you. Am sure everyone is bored of Ergo talk.

sasamaxx · 25/07/2011 21:27

lol you're prob right Smile

curiouselle · 25/07/2011 21:34

am dying to do a proper replying to people post but find it impossible on phone, and my computer hasn't been on in 3 weeks! same age as emma coincidently! but I have read everything and paying avid attention to all poo colours and sling chat, just can't remember whos name links with what!
health visitor came today and is better than all midwives and drs combined. praised me for still breast feeding and gettings emmas weight up (6lb 10) whilst being ill. she also said breast feeding is hard don't let anyone tell you otherwise and if you mixed feed or express or whatever then your baby is still getting goodness and more importantly you are sane! thank god for common sense hv!

CitizenOscar · 25/07/2011 21:54

OMG I think LO has completely drained me today, breastfeeding-wise. I assume he's thirsty as it's been so hot. But I don't feel like there's anything left for him - he's still sucking though. Any tips for producing more milk, quicksmart so I can satisfy him? Trying to drink lots of water - anything else?

Re: slings - I started with a moby but found it a bit complicated so, after I went to a local sling meet, decided to try a babyhawk, which I'm finding easier and DH prefers it too. Don't know if that helps anyone but thought I'd share, so hope it does.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 25/07/2011 22:08

For what it's worth Sasa I'm very Envy of all your slings, so we're even (only got pillow because the inlaws gave us some money for DD) Grin

CO I know you feel empty now, but the more your LO feeds, the more your body will produce. How old is he now? It could be a growth spurt.

sasamaxx · 25/07/2011 22:20

That's great that you're getting on well with the babyhawk Citizen - it's a great sling Smile. Also - often you feel empty, but you're not. If he is still sucking, he is either getting milk, or he knows that his sucking will stimulate milk production and in a couple of minutes, more milk will appear. So long as plenty of wet nappies and he is well otherwise, you don't need to worry. The more he sucks, the more milk there will be so just keep putting him on - you're doing fab!!

LOL confessions I've practically bankrupted myself buying slings so other luxuries like bfing pillows just can't be purchased Wink
Just realised you gave same bfing advice as me above but I can't be bothered editing my post now so I'll just need to sound repetitive

CitizenOscar · 25/07/2011 22:37

Thanks confessions and sasa - just what I needed to hear. He's asleep now so fx he's satisfied for now. He's 5 weeks old. We had such a busy day today and got v hot (took him for a visit to my office which is v hot, even before all the cuddles), so I think he might be replacing lost fluids. He's still filling nappies and seems well so I'll stop worrying & just hope
he doesn't wake up too much in the night (he usually sleeps q well, 3-5 hours at a time). Thanks again :)

misshoohaa · 26/07/2011 08:00

Here you all are!!! Hope all is well, Xav is 6 weeks today and I think celebrating with a growth spurt!

His feeds have got much more efficient in the last week, originally his feeds were about an hr and in the last week are as quick as 20 minutes, whilst I know it's normal for him to get more efficient I'm struggling to believe he can be getting a good enough food in that short a time!

Will try and catch up properly later, I've been skimming past the threads looking for June 2011, the title confused me! Yes im simple Grin

Merlion · 26/07/2011 08:43

Having a blardy awful day. Ds woke at 5am dh and I had an argument fiends over for playdate I think ds spent more time on time out than out and dd wouldn't go to sleep fortunately they both slept at lunchtime bit just got them both in car to go to soft play and it won't start!!!!

Clarkiee · 26/07/2011 09:17

Sorry you're having a crap day merlion hopefully it can only improve.

My girls were fantastic nappers yesterday- been moving their moses baskets into the nursery during the day because there is a blackout blnd, its cooler and the distant traffic noise seems to help.
Only problem is night time.
They always slept a long time after the 10pm FF feed and I'd feed them around 3.30-4.30am but now they are waking up much earlier and the only change is that they now sleep 8pm-10pm. Think that they must be sleeping a bit too much during the day- going to attampt to cut it down today. Its driving me crazy because they are waking at different times and I'm missing out on the lovely 4/5 hour chunk of sleep that I'd gotten used to. Sad Sad

DH has chest pain and has gone to a&e- very worried about him (but also know that he is a bit of a boy who cried wolf/hypercondriact, so although its mean I'm sort of thinking it won't be serious Hmm).

misshooha sure Xav is getting enough- reckon you'd know if he wasn't, as long as he's putting on weight don't worry about it.

sasa all your sling expertise is making me tempted to buy one- was thinking it might be good to get two then we can pop out without the faff of setting up the pram.

curious wow sensible hv lucky you x

Merlion · 26/07/2011 09:41

Flat battery! That should have said friends obviously and sorry for lack of punctuation!

Clarkiee my breasts and I were completely thrown when dd slept for 7 hours on Saturday needless to say it hasn't been repeated since and she's also been waking earlier too.

moomin156 · 26/07/2011 09:51

Morning all.......merlion sorry youre having a crap day.
clarkiee im dreading DD changing her routine again as ive had 6hrs sleep all week. Heaven, and weve managed bedroom action as we arent both knackered Blush
i also use a sling for convenince.......brilliant for the supermarket but with 2 dd's that would still be impossible.
Weve got last lot of jabs today......usually DH takes her but just me today :(

OP posts:
Merlion · 26/07/2011 10:24

I have dd's first jabs tomorrow not looking forward to that.

moomin156 · 26/07/2011 10:32

DD was fine after the first 2 lots but today its 3 injections.....2 in 1 leg and 1 the other. The poor thing. Apparantly the 12month and pre school are the worse as they know whats coming. I give calpol anyway even though the recommendations are you wait to see if they get a temp.

jasmine51 · 26/07/2011 11:08

Citizen I had the same prob as you yesterday. Will was feeding constantly all day and by the evening I really felt like I had run out of boob! I think maybe the weather had alot to do with it because today its cooler and he's nowhere near as interested in feeding. Oh and he slept for 7 hours last night too! Probably exhausted from all that digesting.

Has anyone experienced boob rejection? What caused it? Will has taken a dislike to my left boob - he is hungry and latches enthusiastically for a few seconds then pulls a face, kicks and punches. He will take milk from that boob in a bottle and feeds very peacefully on the other one. There is plenty of milk there and it comes out at the same speed as the right. This is the boob that he has chewed to pieces so maybe something has been going on there for a while. Any ideas?

Have a good day all x

Clarkiee · 26/07/2011 12:09

well jel of those getting 6+ hour chunks of sleep Envy- fingers crossed it'll come to me soon Wink

jasmine rejecting one of your boobs seems strange- but it must'nt be the milk cause of him drinking EBM. Maybe he's not a comfortable when drinking on that side? maybe try changing position?

moomin well done on bedroom action Wink we managed it too but think it was because it was so over due Blush

its only a small thing but i'm getting sick of constantly picking stray hairs that have fallen out of my head- feel like a malting cat!!

NurseSunshine · 26/07/2011 13:06

Jasmine I haven't exp breast rejection myself but remember from antenatal we were told that it's reasonably common and that perhaps the position is the problem as Clarkiee suggested. So if you feed in the cradle position from the right breast then perhaps try the rugby ball position on the left, so Will is still in the same position and doesn't realise it's a different breast. I also heard that the least favourite breast should be offered first if they will only feed from it for a short while as if you offer it after the favoured breast they might not take it.

Clarkiee Hope your DH is OK. Hope you get a better nigbht's sleep tonight. And if not that you at least get some more bedroom action Grin

Eeep Merlion hope the jabs go ok, you will probably be more upset than DD! We've got ours booked, so not looking forward to them.

Misshoohaa and CitizenAs long as the DC are doing lots of wet and mustardy nappies (and not screaming like a banshee!) then they will be getting enough :)

Sasamaxx I am LOVING my sling today! Managed to get things done! DD just sat there quietly until she fell asleep. The stretchy sling is fine for now I think but I can see myself needing a woven quite soon. Would be interested in the 2nd hand sling listings if you wouldn't mind? Thanks :)

jasmine51 · 26/07/2011 13:26

Thanks Nurse - I hadnt really come across it before, just one of my books uses the phrase and it kind of fitted what is going on. The position thing is an interesting theory as he always always always sleeps on his left side...which is what he would be on when feeding from the right boob. I will try putting him in the rugby ball position for the next attempt at the left boob (which will be in about 2 minutes judging by the noises coming from the moses basket). Need to build up to this though because that nipple is now partly black on the end where he has been chewing.

re the slings...I want one! I actually have 2 donated ones that are not working out for me - a Wilkinet carrier and a Better Baby sling. Sasa - are these known to be poor or is it just me? An issue I seem to have with slings is that the size of my poor old boobs means the baby has to hang lower than many slings are designed for - is this normal?

Right - time for a paracetamol and then some boob abuse, wish me luck
