Sona hope no more episodes. Eucalyptus is not recommended for babies under 3 months but presume menthol ok?

Clarkiee re hair it didn't last too long but then I got that really baby fine hair growing back at my hairline which I found equally as irritating as it is kind if a fringe but not one iyswim!Grin

Millie hope everything now ok and you are back home with your lovely family very soon.

Dh and I attempting dinner out tomorrow night as is our anniversary on Tuesday (8 years). Only down the road so we can come home if necessary.

moomin156 · 28/07/2011 10:51

Very quiet on here......hope everyone is ok. My parents are coming today for a weekend. So already made a Keylime pie, we've been to supermarket and i need to make a sponge but its only 10:50 :)

moomin156 · 28/07/2011 11:09

Hi everyone!

We had a successful evening with Cara - put her down at 6:45 in the cot in our room last night, she did wake at 7:35 but I went up fed her again and she slept until 10:20 when I went up to go to bed! She then woke up at 2am and 5:30am - sadly DS also decided to get up at 5:30am and then whined and whined until I got up!

ShazGJ · 28/07/2011 12:38

Finally moving house tomorrow Grin. Removal men are here packing ready to go for tomorrow. Been waiting for this move for 3 years as have been living in a regeneration demolition zone. Was nice that Kane could be born into our first ever house though it's not as if he'll remember it!

PerpetualProvocateur · 28/07/2011 13:02

Hi all, I?m afraid I?ve gotten behind again as it?s been a very hectic week. Thanks so much for all the advice regarding colds/congestion. DS is still a bit congested, but the saline drops, nasal aspirator, steamy bathroom, and propping up the head of the mattress in his moses basket have helped. 79monica, I?m also a bit Blush to admit I cried several times the first day of DS? cold. He just looked so pathetic, it was a little heartbreaking!

DH and I did manage to go to the wedding reception. We left early so were gone about four and a half hours. DS was absolutely fine, slept most of the time and only got through half of the bottles of expressed milk I had left (I was a bit nervous as he often cluster feeds in the evenings). It was a little hard to leave him for the first time, but it was really nice to get a baby-free evening with DH.

We saw the health visitor this morning, and DS is now gaining well. He had finally recovered his birth weight (8 lbs 14 oz) last week, and is now 9 lbs 7 oz at 4 weeks + 2 days. I feel like feeding is going really well now, and I?ve built up the confidence to do several public feeds now. The only problem is a painful cracked nipple which I?ve had for a couple of weeks which just won?t heal. I have changed feeding positions, am using Lansinoh, am exposing it to air when possible, etc, but continuing to feed keeps irritating the wound. It doesn?t hurt to express, so if it doesn?t heal soon, I may keep him off of that side for a day or two and express instead.

Welcome and congratulations to all the newbies! Right, off to catch up on this thread.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 28/07/2011 19:08

PP I did the express to rest a sore nipple when DS was a baby. It worked a treat at allowing the nipple to heal.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 28/07/2011 19:13

express to rest a sore nipple thing, when ....

That reads a bit better!

sona2025 · 29/07/2011 04:11

Just wanted to say hi and do some catching up with u all. Thanks everyone for the advice, we have not had another episode.
Shaz: I have asked my sis to get me the menthol so hopefully will start using it tomorrow.
Regarding hair: I had my hair cut very short during my first trimester as I had a bad morning (read all day) sickness and I couldn?t be bothered with hairdressres and grooming. Since then , I had to cut it regularly as it was growing so fast, now it seems to slow down though
Happy anniversary Merlion
Moomin: never heard of a Keylime pie but sounds delicious, enjoy.
Kara: my Ds started sleeping longer just like Cara. Sorry you didn?t manage to get more time in bed.
Shaz: you sound very upbeat about the move, I am really jealous as even contemplating doing that gain scares me to death
PP: I am glad to hear that things are going really well. Ouch for the sore nipple.

DS has been screaming the house down earlier (since around 2 pm) , I think he had a really bad tummy ache and he didn?t settle till after midnight. I am knackred.

Clarkiee · 29/07/2011 07:35

Are all the new people aware of the chat going on on the facebook group too- inbox milliemuffin ir nursesunshine and they will add you.

Had an awful day with DD's yesterday- it would take me a very long time to go into it and I just want to forget about it now. Had a pretty decent night so hopefully today will be better (or I may have to resign).

Hope your DS does less screaming today sona

KaraStarbuckThrace · 29/07/2011 07:38

Awww Clarkie, poor you! I hope you have a better day today!

Similar story again last night, though she woke up at 10:10 before I got up.
Fed her again at 2am and 5am - though the 5am feed was a bit of a nightmare with her fussing like mad and whinging.
At least this morning, DS stayed in his bed until 6:30!

moomin156 · 29/07/2011 07:52

Morning all, Knackered here too, you really get used to 6 hr sleeps quickly so when it goes wrong it hurts. Smile
Grandad managed to get dd asleep at 9pm having been fed at 7, she usually then has a bottle at 11 and sleeps through til 6. She woke at 2am starving and guzzled 150ml and was then wide awake. Awoke again at 6. Really don't want to go back to amiddle of the night feed. Will wake her tonight i think.
Me and dh have a date tonight, first one in 18 weeks. My parents are baby sitting

Hello everyone bad night here as well ds diagnosed with colic yesterday so screamed solidly till midnight then woke up at half two and then slept in 10 - 30 minute bursts till 530 then woke again at 730 put on his new toy that makes whale noises which settled him till 8 now he is smiling and yawning on my lap while he feeds!
Any other colic sufferers out there got any advice other than health visitor suggestion of dr brown bottles
Moomin very envious of date night will have to see if me and dh could do that most we have done is a take away that I ate cold as ds would not let me put him down
Hello to everyone else sorry no personal ds letting me know he wants more milka!

HalleLouja · 29/07/2011 09:05

Baking there is a charity called [http://www.cry-sis.org.uk/ cry-sis] which is a national charity and had a website - see link. There is a funny story with this. My mum and her friends found this charity and one of the reasons was that I was a colicy baby. Mainly during the day and I did sleep through the night at 6 weeks. Tis a true story.

In other news dd has just fallen asleep on the playmat. Ds never ever did that. It has made ma giggle. I just put a blanket over her and have left her to snooze.

HalleLouja · 29/07/2011 09:08

cry-sis hopefully this link will work.

Aloha31 · 29/07/2011 09:41

Hello all :)

my 7 week dd snacks at the breast all day - any tips for getting her to take a proper feed so she is full? it may be my fault for just always offering her the breast at first, where now i am learning when she is tired etc rather than hungry.

thank you

PerpetualProvocateur · 29/07/2011 18:57

It sure is quiet in here today! I hope everyone?s having a nice start to the weekend. DS has been a bit calmer in the mornings/early afternoons, which has let me get a bit done before he cluster feeds for the rest of the afternoon/evening, keeping me pinned to the sofa. Before he started cluster feeding today I was able to have a two-hour coffee/chat with a friend (during which DS had two short feeds), do a food shop for the weekend, and poke around a couple of shops. I bought a top and a dress from White Stuff which are flowy and button up the top, providing proper coverage of my flabby post-birth middle and allowing for feeding. I am really sick of wearing maternity clothes, so it?s nice to have some other options.

What?s everyone doing/planning in terms of postnatal fitness/losing the baby weight? I?m feeling quite restless and ready to start exercising again. I?ve been walking a lot with the buggy, but I?m craving yoga and some cardio, so am looking forward to getting signed off by the GP in another week and a half. I?ve got two stone to lose... Sad

Confessions, I?ve kept DS off the cracked nipple and have been expressing from that side instead since last night. It seems to be healing quite quickly now. I?ll try to keep him off of it for another day, but I?m afraid he?s getting a bit too used to the bottle. I want him to be able to take a bottle, but not to prefer it IYSWIM.

Sona, I?m glad your LO hasn?t had another episode. It sounds like it must be quite scary when he does!

Clarkiee, sorry you had such a rough day yesterday. I hope the girls were easier for you today!

Kara, I hope your DH can help with your DS this weekend so you can get a bit of sleep!

Moomin, I hope you enjoy your much-deserved date!

Bakingqueen, sorry about the colic. I don?t have any advice, but sending you hugs!

jasmine51 · 29/07/2011 19:22

Just trying to catch up...again. Have had 4 horrible days absolutely flat on my back with mastitis. DH has been amazing and DS has been a star, sleeping almost as much as me...but I dont want to go there again. Am on anti bs now but thats only going to cure the infection, not the cause. I have posted on the breast feeding thread too, but does anyone have any tips for getting the top ducts on each breast emptied? I have large boobs with large downward facing nipples so the only holds I have used are rugby ball, cradle and cross holds and these concentrate on the side and lower ducts. Short of hanging DS upsidedown over my shoulder I cant imagine how to get his sucking parts on the upper part of my boob! I have been expressing after each feed but this is a faff as I have to put a hot water bottle on the boob at the same time and DS is never going to sit still whilst I do all that!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 29/07/2011 20:45

Hi Jasmine - poor you, sorry to hear you have been poorly!
Only thing I can suggest (short of the upside down bfing!) is to massage the top of your breasts down towards the nipple during a feed, that will help encourage the milk to move down.

PP ouch for you too! I presume you are using lansinoh (or similar) on the cracked nipple as well?

Moomin Envy at 6 hour sleep, I can only dream Grin Hope you enjoy your date!

NurseSunshine · 29/07/2011 21:47

PP I am just eating reasonably healthily/trying not to overeat and the weight is coming off at around 2-3lbs per week. Hopefully the weight will be gone before I stop bfing otherwise I'll have to put a lot more effort in!
I secind the lansinoh suggestion!!

Sad Feel better jasmine

PerpetualProvocateur · 29/07/2011 21:57

Kara, yes, have been using Lansinoh, but it didn't have much chance to work with DS' frequent feeds. It's working much better now that I'm keeping him off that side for a bit, as expressing doesn't agitate the wound.

Jasmine, sorry about your mastitis. Rather than hanging your DS upside down, perhaps you could try the side-lying position but flip him around so his feet are by your head? That would give him a better chance of emptying the top ducts, but would still be comfortable. I have similar boobs to yours and love the side-lying position.

PerpetualProvocateur · 29/07/2011 22:01

Nurse, I'm doing the same, but since the initial big loss (of two stone! Shock), it's just been creeping off at about half a pound a week, so I really need to exercise.

moomin156 · 30/07/2011 09:09

Morning all, well we had our date but I was a little stressed. Tried to give a bf before we went but she fussed and screamed and waved her arms and I felt like she was getting nothing. This has never happened before so typical. Ended up giving her 3 oz of ff .....
We did have a lovely meal though and managed to talk about stuff other than dd. Dad drove us and collected us so we shared a bottle of wine . Was very strange without her I have to say Smile
Off.national trusting today and BBQ tonight
