So we don't scare the viroids on the antenatal thread with horror stories of no sleep, chomped boobs and endless laundry or make them envious with tales of cuteness....

Blasphemers! Grin it does seam to be the 'in' thing.

I was the same with BLW and we started well but she just seamed to loose interest and so I spoon fed and now she only wants to do it herself but still won't accept a loaded spoon.

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 21/04/2012 10:36

I freely admit I like BLW only because I'm lazy. And the BLWing banana muffins are lush.

MightilyOats · 21/04/2012 18:45

I too am too lazy to even think about pureeing, and I'm certain it would still be as messy so he might as well just eat what we're having. Not liking the poo though, where did the 'nice' ebm poos go??! Wink

PrincessWatermelon · 21/04/2012 23:42

Hi folks. Long time no see! Sorry to have gone AWOL. Some of the chat scared me a little, and since I'm not "there" yet, not sure I have anything to add!

But glad all is well. Although it sounds like val you've had a tough time with your DS. Hope all the results come back ok. Have you tried the bands/straps that go around the childs head to hold glasses on?

My baby is doing well...judging by her kicking anyway! 30 weeks now...so getting exciting. Have the pram bought, nursery is being decorated, getting things in order.

I'm pretty big for 30 weeks...had an extra growth scan at 27 wks, which showed a big baby! But all fine and cleared for diabetes. So not worried.

About 6 weeks of work left, and so can't wait!!

nickelhasababy · 24/04/2012 11:30

gosh! this dropped off my threads i'm on!
Shock

just tried to feed dd - decided her mouth wasn't open enough so pulled her off to try again.
"ooh, is that a hair? that can't have been nice"
then realised that no, that was milk pouring out and projecting itself all over dd!
quick, latch back on again!

now i'll read what i've missed...

nickelhasababy · 24/04/2012 11:46

gill rapley's book on blw
there's a cookbook too.

princess - you may tell us all about your pregnancy if you like.
are you taking your iron supplements?

MightilyOats · 24/04/2012 14:46

Hi Nickel :) I've done that hair/milk thing so many times! How old is e now? H was 6 months a couple of weeks ago, I can't believe how fast the time has gone! Are you managing ok with the shop?

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 24/04/2012 19:12

Nickel I love that book (it's where the 'nana muffins come from), and the River Cottage Baby and Toddlers book.

DD took her fist little unaided steps today. I'm so excited. I really thought she would have tried a couple of weeks ago, but she was to busy doing other developmental stuff.

vallinnapod · 24/04/2012 20:19

Oh wow MiniFVP! Two mobile tots...good luck Grin

Isn't it MiniFrak's first birthday soon (or now)?

I used to be able to hit targets feet away with my BM seems ages ago! On that though. I haven't BF for over a month now and still no ERTD (but a whole stone of weight...oopsy...put the cake down...)

nickelhasababy · 25/04/2012 11:08

she's 19 weeks now.

we're doing a weekly feature on the shop website "this week eleanor loves..." and she recommends a book Grin

time does fly, doesn't it!
yes, i'm managing okay.
sometimes hate mornings, but i've changed hours to 10-5ish, which is a lot easier for us.

steps !! Shock
well done miniVP!

vallinnapod · 25/04/2012 11:33

Oh too cute Nickel!

vallinnapod · 26/04/2012 09:41

Any advice my lovely viroids?

DS is a bed wriggler (well, a wriggler in general!) as I think I have mentioned before. He is now waking himslef uo by wriggling to the top of his cot and then bashing his head against the head board.

He has never had a bumper and I know if he did, now would be the time to remove it. Any tips on anything I could use to help protect his little bonce? I was thinking something like those pointless but pretty bolsters you always see on beds in Amercian movies: but cheaper

nickelhasababy · 26/04/2012 12:04

pad out the headboard?

get some wadding, cover it in fabric and pin it (with upholstery pins) to the headboard?

Fraktal · 28/04/2012 18:32

Hello! minifrak was 1 last Saturday (time flies!) AND there are BFPs on the JS thread but not me boo hiss

nickel I'll be checking out your site for recs - M devours books (literally!).

FVP yay on the walking! We had a few steps then he got busy doing other stuff, it's so fascinating to try and pinpoint what they're doing at a given time. M tried constantly for about a week to say his name, it's now almost there but sounds a bit like Mucker!

val I have no advice in the wriggling but it's perfectly normal - he still wants to be nice and enclosed so wiggles up until he meets resistance.

nickelhasababy · 30/04/2012 13:45
Grin yes, I'm starting to get worried about DD eating books - in the past week she has discovered that she can actually make her hands move and pick up things and move them to her mouth (because why would you want to do anything else with them?! Shock), and she's just really active because of it - grabbing everything in reach, trying to get those out of reach (thinking about it) (hahahahahaha!!), scrunching and twisting. She even managed a couple of shakes! this morning I was trying to find a book to photo (of her holding it) for the window, and she grabbed it and put the corner straight into her mouth.
vallinnapod · 02/05/2012 18:49

LOL nickel DS loves books in every sense - but let's face it he thinks they are one of the major food groups (along with newspapers...the other day I thought he had really hit is face but no, newsprint Blush). The in laws got him a really cute book from M&S for Easter called a baby teether. It is a little board book that had teething pads and a rattle along the spine. I can't help thinking this is only encouraging the problem Wink. He has a board book version of 'Peepo' at my Mum's which is very well gnawed loved.

DS also has the go-go Gadget arms you describe your DD having! I have been trying to encourage the crawling by putting toys out of reach but he seems to just keep stretching :)

Frak did you have a party for your DS? I have finally got DS's baptism organised which will be a month before his first birthday. Was figuring we would have a big celebration for that instead (I am basically looking for any excuse to party!)

DS has been very poorly. 'Just' a cold but he has been so chesty and sad with it. He absolutely breaks my heart as he is such an inherently cheerful bub. He had streaming eyes and nose the other morning but just beamed at me. Totally crushing. He has given it to me now and I feel like I have been run over...to the point the in laws have taken him for the day. I have had 3 hours more sleep and feel amazing for it but I have hideous guilt that I 'palmed' him off on them when he isn't 100% either. Am having to MN to stop myself staring out the window waiting for them to come home. I cannot believe how much I am missing him!

BTW resorted to a pillow against the headboard. Seems to have been temporary. He now sits up in bed when he is ready to come out!

takethatlady · 06/05/2012 21:02

Hi ladies! how are you all doing? I've just read through the last couple of pages of threads :) Happy birthday minifrak!!! And sorry to hear you've had a tough time with DS's eyes, val - glad to hear it's getting sorted. Who's TTC again???!!! So exciting!

I have job interviews next week and wek after to try to work nearer to home, but if I don't get them - hey ho, we'll be ttc too! If I do, we'll wait til Christmas.

vallinnapod · 07/05/2012 11:13

Hey TTL! Nice you hear from you. Good luck for the job interviews. Little TTL must be coming up for a year now too? June?

We had a positive hospital appointment on Thursday. They are pretty sure that the eye is now an isolated incident and not indicative of anything more serious, however he has to have a muscle biopsy to rule everything out. It's on 16th May under general anaesthetic again Sad

Had a lovely BH weekend as it has been our wedding anniversary. We have been staying at my Mum's for 3 days too so DS has been in her room all weekend! Oh and of course has slept like an angel! I realise I should be Grin but also a little Angry that he saves it for her Wink!

Enjoy your extra weekend day x

takethatlady · 07/05/2012 11:41

Are you having sleep troubles, val?

Isobel is still a bad sleeper! Through use of pick-up put-down she now, on an optimum night, sleeps until midnight, wakes for a 20 minute feed, and then has another 20 minute feed at 3, and is up at 6 (she goes to bed at 8). But there are MANY nights of waking up in between, and she also has developed a habit of 4am playtimes at least once a week. She just had a cold and has had a week of waking up every 30-60 minutes all through the night, but last night was better, fingers crossed!

I am still BF - she won't take a bottle, even at nursery - she has occasionally taken it for 2oz here, 2oz there, but most days nothing. I would like to give up now though because I think her love of BFing is stopping her from eating much ordinary food and sleeping, and also because she has top and bottom teeth and she thinks it is a sign of affection to bite my nipples as hard as she can . Also because I am going away in July for 3 days and she needs to survive without me. At half term (first week in June) we're thinking of going cold turkey with it, but trying to wean her off in the meantime...

Good to hear your DS's eye is going to be fine, and also that they're doing proper checks just to make sure xx

nickelhasababy · 07/05/2012 14:54

your DD knows good stuff when she sees it!
do you want to give up?
i think she'll be fine - a lot of older babies have BFs in the night and morning and nothing except water inbetween.

please don't tell me about biting. Shock
dd got her first tooth-top on thursday, and the second is following now.
and yes, i am a very smug mummy because she's taking it very well. in fact, i didn't even notice she was teething Grin
i saw what i thought was a bit of sick on her gum and went to wipe it off

vallinnapod · 10/05/2012 20:12

No real problems TTL. Last night he slept from 7:30-7 unfortunately this was a real one off. He normally wakes at least once and then comes in with us. He hasn't had a night feed for 2 months now so clearly he just wants a snuggle (as do we!) I should be strong as I know it would only take a couple of nights to crack it (I think) but when he wakes at stupid o'clock I just look for the path of least resistance.

Turns out DS's cold was coupled with uber teething as both his top teeth came through at the same time. Poor poppet. Must have been bloody miserable for him.

We have (nearly!) proper crawling and pulling himself up on things. He is starting to look like a proper little boy now (IYSWIM) too...can't put my finger on it, more hair maybe?!

takethatlady · 13/05/2012 11:30

I am all for the path of least resistance in the early hours of the morning. I'm sure my brain has learned to shudder in my head, because I feel like a crazy beast at 4am and all I can do is bring her into bed and shove my boob in her mouth!

Yes, I think I'm ready to give up BFing now. DD is over 10 months old, she has been almost exclusively BF all her life (never touched a drop of formula until 8 months and has only had the odd bit every now and again since then). I am SO glad I did it because she gets so much comfort out of it, and we get nice relaxed times during the day together when she's feeding and we can just snuggle. i have loved BFing. But life is getting a bit too complicated - working, long commutes, no sleep, weaning troubles, biting - so I think now I know she can take a bottle and she's beginning to eat more and can cope, it's the right time for us to stop.

Hope you're all out enjoying the sunshine! I had a job interview last week and I got offered it on Friday :) I have one next week closer to home, so fingers crossed I'll get offered that too - but either way, my sleepy 60 mile drives are over as soon as summer truly hits!

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 13/05/2012 14:19

That's great news about the job offer TTL! Fingers crossed for the other one too.

I'm still ebfing DD (well part time now that's she's on solids obv, but you know what I mean). I'm really happy it's still going so well as I'd long had to stop with DS by this age. I'm not sure when we'll stop but i would like to be down to only a couple a day once she turns one. As much because I would like her to eat a bit more (I can't believe how wee she is turning out to be!) as wanting my body back a bit. It does help being a SAHM though that I don't have to work it around work.

Still no proper walking here, just the occasional step or two, and lot and lots of cruising. I'm not worried, I just want to go shoe shopping!!

Oh I can't believe how big and grown up all the viroid babies are getting!!!

vallinnapod · 13/05/2012 22:06

I know FVP the time is just zooming by.

My biggest regret is stopping breast feeding. DS just had no attention span for it but I still think I should have done something different. I miss it way more than I imagine he does!

Congrats on the job offer TTL, I can imagine it must feel pretty damn good to have all that commuting time back.

Well, we have definite crawling here now, the wooden floors couldn't contain him! He can also pull himself up on to raised knees on the sofa, oh, and he LOVES hanging off the curtains Confused

Getting a bit apprehensive here as Ds has his muscle biopsy on Weds. More upset about the general anaesthetic than anything :(
