So we don't scare the viroids on the antenatal thread with horror stories of no sleep, chomped boobs and endless laundry or make them envious with tales of cuteness....

(i did reply that if i'd wanted a doll, i would have bought a doll, and wouldn't have stitches and an aching undercarriage, or be kept awake all night and have to suffer anaemia and be knackered, or have to change shitty nappies)

Fuzzywood · 22/02/2012 11:14

Hey, just saw you all on active convos and realised I hadn't posted on here for absolutely ages. Lovely to see more grads though I think I missed most of you on the JSing threads.

DS is almost 13 months now, can't believe where the time has gone. I've been back in work for about 7 weeks and he is now settled into nursery thanksfully. He wasn't too well for the first few weeks which I thinl made it quite hard. Plus DD never gave me a backwards glance when she went so I wasn't exepcting tears! He's almost walking now but gets around at 90 miles an hour with a mixture of crawling and cruising. He's also a complete destruction machine so anything remotely fragile is stored away.
Hope it's going well for you all and you're enjoying your little ones. Make the most of it, they grow up too fast! Grin

vallinnapod · 22/02/2012 12:49

WE'VE GOT A TOOTH!!! Bottom right. So proud Grin

Hey Fuzzy...13 months...lord, where has the time gone!!

LOL Nickel. Until DH finished paternity leave (and he took 2.5 weeks) I hadn't changed one nappy....I hadn't a clue Grin

Eskarina · 22/02/2012 13:15

Hi Fuzzy

Yes, poo. It's a bit gross, amd resembles far too closely what has gone in. Pretty solid too. I do maintain though that sweet potato looks better on the way out than the way in!!
Stinks like anything once the nappy is off, though weirdly I find it's not so easy to smell in a reusable nappy. Dd wore disposies yesterday and she stank! She also did her now legendary trick of doing a huge poo on the M4, though at least this time the leak was minor and we had somewhere to change her at the other end, last time we tried to change the worlds worst pooplosion on the back seat of the car in Marlborough College car park in the cold and wet, whilst trying not to get poo on our best clothes!

TTL thanks to you I'm now watching every foggy thingamy for sale on eBay! They're a bit more expensive than I want to pay though. Couple of more local baby walkers ending soon. DH will go spare. Well, no he won't but he will be grumpy about it.

val and CC are you thinking of going back to work? I tried to get in touch with school today to discuss going back, only to find the head was out for the day. Weirdly glad in a way as it puts the conversation off another few days. I don't really want to go back so originally asked for 3 days (unoficially). Was told that I would have to basically be a supply teacher and cover other people's classes if I did that, which is fair enough that is works for the school but I don't want to do that. We could just about manage if I don't go back so I'm keen that if I do that its a job I enjoy, there's no point in leaving dd with someone else so I can go and do a job I don't have to do and don't want to do!

nickelDorritt · 22/02/2012 13:26

thankfully, i had changed nappies in the past Grin

Yeay! on the tooth!! GrinGrin

nickelDorritt · 22/02/2012 13:50

So, I have found out that I can't "get on with some sewing stuff while I have no customers"
I sat down, DD looked very entertained.
I started cutting out, DD started getting bored.
Carried on cutting out, DD started wailing like I was tormenting her.
I even put on a video of me singing in the choir! to distract her.
No, I wasn't directly entertaining her, so she was upset (even though I was talking to her throughout).
I managed to ignore her finish the cutting out (thankfully only a couple of bits) and started to rock her seat with my foot.
instant fix.
So I can do anything I like as long as I am able to rock her chair at the same time! [h,,] :(

nickelDorritt · 22/02/2012 13:51

h sod, that should have been Hmm not [h,,]

nickelDorritt · 22/02/2012 13:51

I've managed to rock her to sleep. Hmm

CuriosityCola · 22/02/2012 14:30

Very exciting val Grin

esk not going back to work until ds is at least a year old. I left my teaching job and can't face the thought of applications.

nickel this is the problem I have with my ds. He is easy to entertain as long as I am giving him my full attention.

this six months has flown by, so I can imagine the year mark being here in no time. Glad little one has settled at nursery ok.

vallinnapod · 22/02/2012 14:55

My DS is easy to entertain as long as he has my full on attention too or is watching TV....

I am going back to work but not until the end of September. DS will be 13 months. This is 12 months mat leave (I had a months worth of annual leave before my due date) plus the 9 days of bank holidays I accrue and then two weeks worth of annual leave. I have mixed feelings about returning. I think I am excited about it but I am apprehensive as I am not guaranteed my old role. I am hoping to do 4 days a week with one from home, which there us precedent for but they are under going an operation review which may change things. I have to return too as I took an enhanced maternity pay package, the condition of which is returning for a year. I am a bit pissed off as I emailed work on Monday, just to stay in touch and neither the guy I work for or my HR manager got back to me.

DH has said if we are lucky enough to have number 2 I don't need to go back. This is primarily because of the cost of nursery. DS's 4 days are going to cost £1200 a month ShockShockShockShockShockShockShock That said I feel really lucky as I really liked the nursery and don't have any qualms about leaving DS there...yet!

Eskarina · 22/02/2012 21:57

We have had a new thing here. Tantrums. As in "I wanted to do that and you just stopped me" tantrums. I picked dd up out of her bumbo thereby taking her away from the toy she was happily bashing. Cue tears and shouting. Tried to get her to stand up at her walker, something she usually loves, she collapses her legs to sit down. I lift her up. Tantrum.
Not liking this development at all!

Then DH tried to put her to bed which caused incredible distress. I had been doing it as we were battling several sleep problems all at once. Thankfully most are solved now so its back to tackling bedtime. She will go without tears for me, but it has to be me. I'm going out for the evening a couple of times in the next few weeks and DH has to be able to get her to bed. Just when you think you're sorted.....!

cowboylover · 22/02/2012 22:59

Hey Fuzzy! Wow it's going soo fast, DD is 9 months now and it feels so strange approaching the year mark. I can see me being super emotional.

I have now been back at work 3 weeks and it's getting better. I now only work 3 days in a different role to before so I have to find my place in it but going ok. 1st pay day today so that helps!

Poo talk is near constant or feels like it sometimes. DD will not go lying down and only in a clean dry nappy so she knows what she likes! So much. Character and personality in someone so small I find amazing everyday Grin

PrincessWatermelon · 22/02/2012 23:53

Wow, so much to look forward to....poos, tantrums, more poos, Grin

A quick wave goodbye - am off to Egypt for a week early tomorrow. Yay! Don't ask why I'm still up at near midnight, the alarm is set for 4.30. Mind you, that's probably fairly standard for you all now!

Hope everyone has a good week. Take care.

Eskarina · 23/02/2012 09:28

Have a lovely holiday Princess

After the epic tantrum at bedtime, dd woke up at 10 to continue making her displeasure known and it took a feed to settle her down. She hasnt woken at 10 since we put her in her own room a week ago now. BUT she then slept through til 6.45. We like that!

nickelDorritt · 23/02/2012 10:50

don't worry about tantrums yet princess Grin

I find it funny how it's so difficult for the tinies to fathom what's happening.
So, last night, we went to bed. I normally feed her to sleep, but we'd been in bed watching telly for about an hour while she was having food, so I thought it might be an idea to let DH cuddle her to start with because she was practically asleep anyway.
no, that didn't work! She had to be feeding to settle properly.
and then, of course, every time she woke in the night, she had to find boob (which fucking hurts when she's nowhere near my nipple, just flailing her arms around trying to find the nipple with her mouth, but finding it with every other part of her body instead!!)
and in the morning, I tried to fob her off on to DH - she was totally fast asleep, all curled up inside my armpit, so I passed her over to DH in the same position, directed him how to hold her. She cried. in her sleeeeep
she got over it though, and they had a lovely half hour cuddle Grin
then she cried when it was time to get up.
Hmm

CuriosityCola · 23/02/2012 14:08

Have a great holiday princess

nickel I can sympathise with the night time feeding. The worst is when they latch on but only half have the nipple. Still makes me laugh every time ds tries to latch on to dh's arm Grin

The mission of the day has been to get his foot on the highchair tray. I'm not sure the baby led weaning book had mention of them eating with help from their feet. Hmm

nickelDorritt · 23/02/2012 14:11

OOH, YES. [OWWW]
(oops caps lock Blush)
sucking on the top end of the nipple! Shock

CuriosityCola · 23/02/2012 14:24

Oh, I didn't mention my positive news! Ds was really grumpy yesterday, so I did his night time routine and put him to bed at 6pm. He slept until 11pm!!!!!! That is the longest unbroken sleep we have had...5 hours! Which I think means I can say he slept through the night (even though he was awake at 11pmConfused)Grin

Eskarina · 24/02/2012 03:31

Urgh. Dd fast asleep, only woke briefly over 2 hours ago, quick feed then back asleep. I am soooo incredibly wide awake it's untrue. Had a response to my email about returning to work which basically says that whatever I do I won't be working with my specialist age range. Feel really hurt by that, so am looking around at other jobs. Must find out tomorrow how changing job but with same employer affects maternity pay (I have to pay it back if I don't return for a certain period)

nickelDorritt · 24/02/2012 10:42

if you're with the same employer it won't affect it.
the only thing that might is your pay - but it'll be more than smp anyway, unless you're going to earn below that.

Eskarina · 24/02/2012 11:50

Thats what I thought too nickel, though there's a funny thing with schools, whether the school or the local authority is the employer. Must ring up HR today and find out, though I hate ringing people up.

I've just collected a new (well, new to me) buggy from eBay, an obaby atlas which I won for a whole £17. Needs a good clean but otherwise fine, only a year old. It's only for occasional use as I do love my bee, but this one takes up about 1/3 of the space in the boot so much better for holidays

nickelDorritt · 24/02/2012 11:57

god, i just dropped a book stand on dd's head. it didn't hit hard, but it's cut her. :( :(

Eskarina · 24/02/2012 13:00

(hug) Nickel. I'm sure dd will forgive you, but it's an awful feeling isn't it. Get her checked out if you're worried in any way, everyone knows accidents happen xxx

I just spoke to hr. yes, can return to any school in the authority. I may not choose to change schools, but knowing that I could is hugely liberating.

Eskarina · 25/02/2012 15:30

How is everyone's weekend going?
Dd has spent ages screaming about going down for her afternoon nap. Eventually I lay down on our bed with her and she fell asleep in under 5 mins. I really really don't understand why she'll go to sleep at night in her bed but never mind how tired she is she will resist sleep in it in the day. It's not like she can't settle herself down.

New buggy is all clean and looks good. Of course now dd is finally asleep I want her to wake up so I can take her out for a test drive Grin

nickelhasababy · 25/02/2012 15:56

thanks esk - yeah, she was fine :)

have had more customers than last week, but still not enough
dd is fine, not whining much! Grin
had a couple of lovely visitors- one of whom bought me a pasty.
i've put out all the world book day books (haven't yet got the cressida cowell one - hope it's on its way), but i haven't got a stand or POS because somehow i managed not to send my sign-up notice. bollocks.
