Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dinkystinkyandveryverybored · 12/04/2012 15:16

Congrats on I's fulltime palce SOTL. At DS1's school, the LEA has withdrawn funding for full time places so everyone is being offered half day places, but had a letter from school seeing if people are willing to pay to top up to the full day...

Ofsted report still not out (some 8 weeks later) but there have already been emergency meetings called by the governors with parents - another one next week - so when it comes out it is going to be very bad I think. The school isnt great on academics - huge turn over, lots of ESL children, lots of refugee kids - but amazing on the pastoral care side of life. I'd be very Hmm about mums in pjs and uggs at pick up and drop off. Well done J on his good work - you must have been a super proud mum.

SilveryMoon · 12/04/2012 16:10

Oh dear dinky Well, hopefully it is the kick up the arse the school needs!

There have been times that I have been up at the school to collect J and there has been a horse and cart parked up at the gates. I need say no more.

Calico1 · 12/04/2012 20:36

SM Grin at the horse and cart!! I assume you are not in a rural location...

DS's school only had a satisfactory Ofsted three years ago but they have had a new head teacher since Sept and Ofsted were in about 3 weeks ago so we'll see if they have moved up. I wasn't too worried about the report as lots of mums whose opinion I respect have said it is fab little school and the PTA is also very active so everyone in the community cares a lot about the school standards - and so for me that rated more then the reports.

Stressful few days as MIL very ill in hospital. She has been undergoing chemo and not reacting well to it at all. DH went to see her this afternoon and was shocked at how poorly she looked Sad. I'm not sure she'll get through it tbh.

dinkystinkyandveryverybored · 12/04/2012 21:52

Calico - so sorry to hear about your MIL. Am keeping everything crossed for you guys.

Lol at the horse and cart SM!

SilveryMoon · 13/04/2012 07:06

The 2011 group hhave stolen our 'fab feb' Shock

MOSagain · 13/04/2012 09:14

SM I noticed that yesterday. Bastards. Have they no immagination Wink

calico hope your MIL is ok. DH's sisters DH is having chemo at the moment and it doesn't sound like it is going too well. His sister is in quite a bad way herself through the stress of it all and is very very negative and doom and gloom which sadly I'm sure is not helping him Sad

Like the rest of us, my thoughts are often with one of our own. Feel so very very sad for her

Calico1 · 14/04/2012 08:51

Indeed MOS - desperately sad Sad.

SummerRain · 16/04/2012 13:06

Sm, I spotted that too whilst I was looking for this thread as I had lost it again

Cheeky mares Wink

MOS and Calico, so sorry to hear about your BIL and MIL not doing well with the chemo. Must be so traumatising for the whole family Sad Fingers crossed they manage to weather the chemo and it does it's job asap

No news here, still snowed under with coursework but at least the end is in sight now, June 17th is my exam and then I'll be down to one course for the summer which is much more manageable.

A is still a little tyrant. I took his nappies away 4 weeks ago and in that time we've had 1 pee on the toilet..... ONE..... in FOUR WEEKS. Needless to say I'm struggling to remain calm about the whole thing and am about a hairs breathe away from putting him back in nappies

rosieposey · 17/04/2012 07:46

Morning :) It's been a few months since i posted but i am very glad to see some familiar names on here.

I was reminded of you all sadly because of a fellow fab febber that MOS mentioned a few posts up - i am also so desperately sorry :(

I will read back a couple of pages but it all seems like your lo's are doing really well? Milo is still in nappies Hmm we have tried with the potty training but he just doesn't seem to be quite there yet - im going to not stress about it and will try again next month.

Its all been a bit hectic here - my mum had a stroke in October and she lived in Devon so i was up and down the motorway like you wouldn't believe. I bought her here to live with us whilst she was recovering and she has now sold her house and lives 5 mins away - have to be honest and whilst i am overjoyed she is fit and well again its alot of extra work now, we laid her lawn this weekend in her new house!

Yes i too got a bit confused when looking for you all - Fab Feb? Only in 2009!

I can't believe our Lo's are really this old now, Milo is a pure delight to us still (and we are all probably guilty of over-babying him) but they don't stay small for long that's for sure. He has 4 Mummies i think as he adores his sisters and seeks them out in the mornings, they are not so keen on this time of the day but he is.

oooggs · 17/04/2012 17:07

Hey Rosie great to see you

Devastatings things happen all the time but when things happen to one of our own it really hits home

MOSagain · 18/04/2012 13:48

good to see you SR and Rosie

A bit of a crap day here. Have had breathing issues for past week so finally got drs appt this morning and went with DD before I took her to school. Luckily H went to nursery at 8am. Dr checked SATS (?) and apparently they were low at 94% (means nothing to me really but will step back from google as tends to do more harm than good) Dr ended up putting me on nebuliser which I think frightened DD a bit but luckily DH had come along too as he was apparently worried so he took her out and to school opposite drs whilst I was still there. Dr seemed a bit baffled but has given me an inhaler and antibiotics and have to go back next week. Have to say it was a relief after being on nebuliser being able to breathe properly for the first time in a week. Hopefully it is just a bug/chest infection and not asthma, don't really want that on top of diabetes. On the plus side, I have lost 7lb since diagnosis. Every cloud and all that!

Thinking of one of our lot still as I'm sure we all are. Wish we could do something Sad

SilveryMoon · 19/04/2012 17:02

Rosie So sorry to hear about your mum's stroke. Glad she's recovering well.

Mos Hope you're ok now, sounds very horrid.

Yeah, I keep thinking of MrsY and wonder how she's doing.

So, sure some of you saw on kmy fb status about Jacob and his leg pain. After nearly a year of trying to get answers about this, I have finally been told he probably has Perthes disease. Not as serious as it sounds.
Don't know too much about it, waiting for another referral now, but have googled it and hopefully he will grow out of it ok, but for now, just calpol etc when it hurts, nothing else really can be done at this stage.

How is everyone else?

MOSagain · 19/04/2012 17:28

Hello all, just back from hospital having had to have a retinal scan (another joy of diabetes apparently) Bloody awful, they put what felt like acid in my eyes and then took photos and everything is really blurred now. Luckily I got a taxi there and DH picked me up as not allowed to drive. Eyes look so weird, I freaked out when I looked in the mirror, look like something from 'v' (showing age now?)

SM I'm glad you've finally got an answer but have they explained what it is. Please don't just rely on google, never a good thing. I do hope it isn't too bad and there is a good treatment for it.

Rosie so sorry I missed the part about your mum's stroke, was a bit distracted Blush I do hope that she is recovering well.

Thinking of MrsY (((hugs)))

SilveryMoon · 19/04/2012 18:13

That doesn't sound nice Mos Hope your eyes are getting better.

Re Jacob's thing. It really doesn't sound too bad, but we are waiting for the consultation. I'm not overly concerned because it seems nothing can be done anyway and he will grow out of it.

dinkystinkyandveryverybored · 23/04/2012 12:40

Hello all - Rosie, lovely to see you on. Sounds like you've been v busy. So sorry to hear of your mum's stroke - hope she's making a good recovery and bet she's loving being closer to you all now.

SM - I'm glad J has a diagnosis, hope the consultation is informative and that he does indeed grow out of it soon. DS1 sometimes complains of growing pains too - cant say I remember them but they clearly do exist.

MOS - so sorry you've been in the wars so much, hope you're feeling ok now and breathing and diabetes are under control. The retinal scan doesnt sound like much fun at all - thank god you had someone to bring you home.

Been super manic busy at work so not on much. One bit of news from me is my dad (who is going blind due to a medical condition he has) called last night to tell me that he has suspected bowel cancer (going for more investigations later this week). Ho hum.

Sending love, hugs and strength to all that need it

MOSagain · 23/04/2012 17:53

dinky so sorry to read about your dad. Fingers crossed for you all with regards to the investigations. Hope you get answers soon.

Hope everyone is doing ok. One of our bunch constantly in my thoughts and prayers x

oooggs · 23/04/2012 20:16

Oh dinky so sorry about your dads news, hope things get sorted soon

Dd suffers with her legs too. She is 5 and he growing pains are dreadful Sad

rosieposey · 25/04/2012 09:45

Dinky, i am keeping everything crossed that your dad is ok and doesn't have bowel cancer - Bless him, he really has enough on his plate by the sounds of it.

MOS i had that retinal thing done and it was stingy and horrid for about 4 hours. They keep asking me in for another one but i am chicken. I am terrible wrt my diabetes so i am glad you are keeping a closer eye on yours and doing everything you are meant to be. Well done on losing that 7lb btw - i really need to lose some weight i am just so crap as have given up wine and fags (again) and lovely M and S food seems to cheer me up! (That's terrible i know) - i am the worlds worst diabetic :( My GP agrees with me when i tell him i am in denial and he said its quite common when diabetics are diagnosed quite young, still no excuse and i am going to be much more on the ball from now on.

I went to the GP's on Monday as i need to get on insulin quickly so needed referring to the hospital. I got a positive pg test last Monday and it was a complete accident (dh and i gave up trying a year ago) we were so surprised but i was worried as the endocronologist told me before he discharged me after i had Milo that if i ever wanted another i should be on insulin BEFORE conceiving and a much higher dose of folic acid. Anyway i got reffered and have an appt at the ante-natal clinic this afternoon so hopefully i should be on insulin (as i have terrible control of my blood sugars) by the end of today and give this little bean a chance - am only 5 weeks 3 days.

I feel a bit bad talking about my woes when i look at mrsy's facebook - am so sad and it makes me think that nothing should be taken for granted - life is in the main good if a little stressful at the moment and i am grateful for that.

Silverymoon my nephew had Perthes disease and was on crutches for a time but he is all grown up and absolutely fine now.

Well hope you are all well generally and i will check in again in a few days, there are no nice ante-natal clubs this time but the over 40 mums all seem to be quite friendly - this lo is due on Christmas day (but i always have my babies a couple of weeks early because of the diabetes) and the Dec thread is super fast. I can't believe someone stole the 'Fab Feb' title - there is only one Fab Feb! Grin

MOSagain · 25/04/2012 13:15

Rosie lovely news, congratulations Grin Hopefully it won't cause too many problems with your diabetes and you will keep it under control.

shame there are no nice new AN clubs but you still have us Wink

Like you, I'm still feeling so very sad.

Can I ask everyone if possible to light a candle tomorrow at 12.30pm and think of MrsY her DH and M as they go through something that no parent should ever have to go through Sad She knows we are thinking of us and sends her thanks and will be back to us when she is ready.

rosieposey · 25/04/2012 13:53

I will of course - much love to mrsy and family, I have already said this on fb but I really am praying for you all xxx

dinkystinkyandveryverybored · 25/04/2012 15:35

Thanks lovely ladies for your kind thoughts for my dad. Huge congratulations Rosie - am keeping everythign crossed all goes well for you and the bean. Feeling so incredibly said for our lovely friend and her family at the moment - I hope the service tomorrow helps in some way.

Calico1 · 26/04/2012 14:05

Rosie big congratulations - nice to have some good news.
Dinky sorry to hear about your dad - hope you get some more hopeful information soon.

Better news from my MIL - she is finally out of hospital but they have postponed the chemo for the time being as she had such a bad reaction to it. They are going to wait until she is stronger before trying again. She is quite elderly so I'm not sure she can take much more - to be honest the treatment so far has been worse than the disease.

MrsY and family are very much in my thoughts today xx

MOSagain · 26/04/2012 14:08

Calico thats the problem with the treatment, it makes them so ill. BIL was so very ill through his first lot of treatment but had his first scan yesterday and the tumour has shrunk which is fabulous news. Two more lots of treatment to go though.

Also thinking of MrsY and family. xxx

StillOnTheLine · 26/04/2012 14:18

Drawn back to here today, thinking of MrsY and her family.

Congratulations Rosie - thats lovely news. Hope it all goes well.

Dinky sorry to hear about your Dad and fingers crossed the investigations don't reveal the worst. How is he coping with his eyesight?

DP's Dad is in a coma in Spain, he had a quadruple heart bypass last year but they then discovered he also has fibrosis in his lungs so we've been getting ready for the worst. DP was there for about 2 weeks and I went over for the weekend. It's so sad to see him in ICU linked up to every machine going. DP came home last night which was good as the kids were missing him (and me!) but he's obvioulsy torn between wanting to be with his Mum but needing to carry on with real life whilst waiting.

Mos hope all your diabetes stuff is OK. My DD had to have that retina thing done and she screamed the place down after first, practically had to sit on her for them to get the second one in. I hope you're coping with managing the new way of doing things in diabetes land.

SM - your poor boy. You definitely knew best! I hope he's OK and you get proper info on what you can do to help.

I've joined Weight Watchers - about 10 weeks ago as I finally admitted I was so overweight and couldn't be left to my own devices to manage it. I've lost over 2 stone so far (although put on a couple of pounds during the Spain visit) and am determined to get rid of the fat and be healthier - got about another 5 stone go though! i can already run after the kids easier and that is one of my main aims. I think being a Mum, working full time and having a social life (limited but still there) I forgot to think about me and looking after myself. I still haven't worked exercise into my routine but am hoping to start cycling to work soon.

xxx

dinkystinkyandveryverybored · 26/04/2012 16:56

Thinking of MrsY and her lovely loved ones today and sending her love and strength.

Thanks for your kind wishes Calico and SOTL - sending them right back to you for your loved ones with health issues too. Glad your MIL is home Calico - hope being home gives her comfort and strength. So terribly sorry to hear about your BIL and your DP's dad MOS and SOTL. Getting older sucks doesnt it? However, huge well done on your weightloss SOTL - 2 stone in 2 months is really going some! You're a much braver woman than me contemplating cycling to work in London...
