roo had:

brekkie: rice pud with apricot/apple puree (major celebration, as he normally doesn't bother with brek "a few dry cheerios & a drink from you mum will be fine, ta")
lunch: chicken/broc/potato mush for lunch, with some chopped tomato (current fave food, which i think is a bit odd tbh!), & then strawberry yoghurt - ok sounding quite boring here as well!
dinner: steamed broc & courgettes in cheese sause, followed by more rice pud combo ( if it ain't broke..!)
also ate a few peas when we had our dinner (& squished some).

how about tofu cubes? he likes these, even when cooked in chilli (which we had for dinner a couple of nights ago). tomorrow he has a veg/pulse soup for lunch. he's also had ham recently for the first time, which he ate quite well with chopped tomato & chopped hard boiled egg for lunch. he loves cheese topped bagels too.
umm.....?

roosmum · 23/11/2005 21:06

oh & roo's an 02.02 baby.

tipex, easiest way of making white/cheese sauce:
get yerself some cornflour.
heat some (fullfat) milk.
dissolve some c/f in some more milk.
add to heated milk.
stir til thickened.
(add cheese)

foolproof, i can't be doing with the whole melt butter, stir in flour - oh look it's all gone pearshaped thing either!

Angeliz · 23/11/2005 21:07

I'm off to watch I'm a Celebrity as Tipex keeps offending me on another thread!

are they allowed tofu? i know quorn isn't recommended til they're 1 (or 2?) but wasn't sure about tofu

OP posts:
roosmum · 23/11/2005 21:11

um, dunno.

roo's eaten it, still in one piece!
so i'm guessing it's ok? actually he's had quorn too, in lasagne the other day...
why no quorn??

starlover · 23/11/2005 21:12

don't remember now! lol will google it

Quorn and textured vegetable protein

The manufacturers of Quorn recommend that it is not introduced into a child?s diet before the age of two years. Textured vegetable protein may be difficult for young babies to digest, and its salt content must be watched

OP posts:
starlover · 23/11/2005 21:15

Quorn products are a useful addition to the diet of young children, but it should not be relied on as the sole or major source of protein since it is relatively low in calories and high in fibre, so may satisfy a child's appetite before enough energy has been taken in.

that was in regard to slightly older kids...

Hi all. Sorry to hear about those who won't sleep. I think DD has finally cracked it, she sleeps til about 6 now. Tipex, she had chicken, peas and carrots, then apple puree. On the subject of food what do you give finger food wise. DD has toast, bread sticks, rusks mainly feel i should give her a bit more variety but not sure what. She is the 21st, Tipex your DS shares the same b'day as me.

roosmum · 23/11/2005 21:18

hiya pjmum! ooh well done on the sleep - if roo sleeps ok tonight, that'll be 5 in a row (cross all fingers!!!)

SL, he only had a tiny bit, in a pasta sauce...guess the salt would be the thing to worry abt mostly. ta for info!

starlover · 23/11/2005 21:19

you are welcome! i shall go and research tofu now, as that would be handy for linus to have...

btw, do you have any lovely tofu recipes? and what kind of tofu do you buy?

OP posts:
roosmum · 23/11/2005 21:20

pj - roo like pieces of tomato (deskinned)

how about cheese cubes, steamed veg? hard boiled egg? pasta shapes, tiny sandwiches...we're king of finger foods here actually, since roo thinks spoons are evil (unless there's dessert on them )

starlover · 23/11/2005 21:21

vegetarian society says tofu is ok from 6 months!

roosmum · 23/11/2005 21:23

cauldren organic sl, in all supermarkets or holland & barrett??

drain, chop up, stir fry - usu in a chinese type style, with ginger/garlic/chilli, lots of matchstick veggies (courgette, carrot etc) or some frozen chinese ones sometimes too. dash of soy sauce & that#s about it (unless i add a dash of tomato puree/passata to make a kind of tomato szcheaun...oh i have no idea how to spell that...!)

roosmum · 23/11/2005 21:25

with noodles or rice btw...

& roosmum's top tip of the day - make lots of extra rice, next night's dinner is egg fried rice (for me), poss with kidney beans/mushrooms etc, with tuna for dh. v quick, v yum!

starlover · 23/11/2005 21:27

yes that's what i've had. never really cooked it very often though because i am slightly scared of it!

have you ever used any other beancurd type stuff?

one of our local chinese places does the most gorgeous veggie stuff... but it's all MUCH firmer and "meatier" than the tofu i have bought in supermarket which tends to be a bit foamier (or maybe it's just the way i cook it?)

OP posts:
roosmum · 23/11/2005 21:29

oooh don't sl, local chinese does black bean beancurd to die for! drool!!
& i have no idea how they get it that good, cos my tofu is nothing like it (but still tastes good)!
