Oh sorry to hear about Linus.
Welcome dublindee. DD at nursery today was planning to have a good clean up around the house haven't done athing!

gossifairyonthexmastree · 12/12/2005 16:19

good on you pjsmum!

starlover - poor linus, but it's good to get it over with in a way, isn't it??(correct me if 'm wrong) what are the symptoms? and will it be over by xmas?

welcome dublindee, tell us what you ds is up to? leon waa born 17th feb and is all over the place and in everything at the moment, tried to pull over a friends xmas tree on saturday, almost managed it to!

saintnik · 12/12/2005 18:33

Poor Linus, at least he'll be over it in plenty time for Xmas. Dd has been off colour since last night so will watch out for any spots - better she gets it over & done with while she's young I reckon. Will get the neurofen & calamine lotion at the ready!!

Hi to Dublindee - where do you live or is that a silly question?? .

saintnik · 12/12/2005 19:42

Just rechecking my textbook about the pox! Linus may not have been contagious on thursday unless he got ill on friday and for any babies exposed the incubation lasts between a week and 21 days.

ooh thanks for that info Nik ! I was thinking that it wouldn't be so bad despite the fact its christmas as the only other child we are seeing at christmas is my neice who had it about 6 months ago. Then I remembered my pg SIL - is it right that as long as the mother has had it, it wouldn't effect the unborn child ??

Sorry to hear about your ds Tipex and his bout of illnesses ... its really a grotty time for them at the mo isn't it.

DD has just taken an hour to go to sleep and I only think she has gone.. oh no ... a cry.... not surprised as she seemed to have gone to sleep cluthing a massive giraffe so its probably just clonked her on the head !! Am pretty sure its her top teeth but feel I blame teething for everything......

On a lighter note, dd had her first brussel sprouts today and liked them (like mother like daughter).....

AND... I hand in my notice tomorrow

HAZELLNUTsroastingonanopenfire · 12/12/2005 20:13

And welcome Dublindee !! We don't always spend our time moaning about our poor sickly babies honest (just moaning...).

NoRoosmumAtTheInn · 12/12/2005 20:26

welcome dublindee! like goss i'd love to hear more abt you

for all the poorly babes esp chickenpoxed linus & tipex's ds with ??? we're still avoiding the pox here, tho didn't realise until nik said that the incubation period could be as long as 21 days! ta to the docs on here for that! hope babies are feeling better soon, in time for christmas for sure

on that note, who has their tree up atm? we still don't, i really want to but am terrified roo will eat/break etc etc it as soon as it goes up..! hmm...

tipex - sleep is v variable atm, sometimes not too bad, sometimes awful. never that great tho, unfortunately. still going with it, see where we end up (fingers crossed - not the nuthouse!). but on a different thing, roo has gone suddenly from 5 to 3 bf a day, now just morning & night & mid-afternoon. also eating loads more atm. roosmum well pleased with this!! (um, that's my good news i think)
bad news is that i dropped my wallet in tesco - & tho i (amazingly) got it back at customer services, it was minus my cash. humph. but i was so pleased to get it back (& to be able to actually pay for my trolleyful of stuff!) i didn't even notice until i got home.

way to go HN! savour the moment!

oh & i don't rise to zapp attacks either...not when i can out for lunch with baby pals - & tuck the beloved zapp under my chair, whilst all other prams cause major congestion & mucho irritation

Blondeinlondon · 12/12/2005 20:29

Hazellnut - handing in your notice, how exciting!
Did you cut up the sprouts or just serve them whole?

My exciting news is we finally had a new front door installed today so no more drafty gaps!

Now a question for everyone - how often are you brushing your LO's teeth?

Blondeinlondon · 12/12/2005 20:32

No tree here and we won't be having one... as we are off to NYC for xmas
I did buy some fairy lights today 7 quid in Somerfield a total bargain

However it is the dodgiest shop.. today a scratty looking labrador entered the shop at the same time as me and the staff did nothing! When I was paying I could hear barking so suspect the dog may have found the meat section

HAZELLNUTsroastingonanopenfire · 12/12/2005 20:40

we have been umming and aahing what to do about a tree. I am a fervent real tree supporter but have b een trying to decide to buy the usual mostrosity or put one up high. Today, I went to a friends who had a big number and a dd the same age as my dd and she had been saying that her dd was fine with it so I thought it would be a good test..... 30 minutes into visit the tree was spotted, a beeline was made to it and dd pulled herself up next to it and started tugging at the branches and giggling. One up high in the Hazellnut household methinks.

Brussel sprouts were served in halves. Although the way she chomped on them think I could have just served them up whole !!

As for teeth brushing - we are supposed to do it every night but I just realised that as I was a lazy b*m tonight and couldn't be bothered to bath dd I forgot to do her teeth . That'll teach me (we do normally do both every night).

NoRoosmumAtTheInn · 12/12/2005 20:42

nyc BIL

very nice!

roo's 5ish teeth get brushed twice a day [smug emoticon]

pjsmum · 12/12/2005 20:47

No tree here, thought about it then realised that the only place to put it where dd cant attack it would be the conservatory. No point as we never go in there! Too cold.
When i collected dd from nursery earlier the 'aunties' told me she'd been crawling around saying woof woof all day. Whats that about i dont know. And she has made a xmas card. Its fantastic
I tried a zapp today, must admit quite impressed how it folds down. Dp wants one with 4 wheels though.

pjsmum · 12/12/2005 20:49

Oh and dd brushes her teeth every night. I say brush but really suck and chew and stick brush as far down her throat as she can, choke and laugh about it.

followthestarlover · 12/12/2005 21:03

well Linus has about 15 spots now! lol
was less than that this morning... keep finding new ones!

AND... we have a tooth! a top one at that! Not one to do things by the book is he? lol

Well, beat this Feb mums - we have TWO trees at Chateau Nik, a real one and our trusty fake. Fairy lights up too - am going a bit over the top this year but am SO excited about our first family christmas.

Poor dd gets her teeth brushed when we remember, which is about once a week so at this rate they'll drop out as fast as she gets them.

Chickenpox is OK for pregnant ladies if they've had it before Hazellnut.

followthestarlover · 13/12/2005 11:29

i have made space for our tree... but still not sure whether or nto to put it up.
we're feeling decidedly un-festive here and i think we need some christmassy stuff around... but i just KNOW he will trash it! lol

how do you feel handing your notice in hazellnut? wish i could! lol

AndaWOMBATinapeartree · 13/12/2005 15:40

Hope my christmas name is ok?

I am going to put our tree up very high as it won't last five minutes on the floor with little madam climbing up everything. She has lost interest in all her toys now and just wants to pull everything off the shelves. She also loves terrorising the cat, which keeps me amused. She crawls around after him saying "dada". Think she's a bit confused bless her.

I try to brush my dd's teeth twice a day but keep forgetting too.

How is Linus doing today Starlover?

followthestarlover · 13/12/2005 15:43

hi wombat! fab name!

linus is fine actually... he is walking around with a shoe atm... keeps shutting himself in his room

very spotty and covered in calamine! lol

we went out for a little walk in the gardens today which was cold, but nice to get out of the house!
and didn't see a single person luckily!

tipeXMAStree? tipeXMASpudding? tipeXMAScracker?

Bit of a theme there. Can't dream up any more! Hope the appraisal went OK BTW.

Has anyone bought a present for their babies? I haven't as I reckoned she's too young to know what's going on and she'll get loads from family etc but all my NCT group called me a miserable skinflint!

HAZELLNUTsroastingonanopenfire · 13/12/2005 16:54

Well... I've been and gone and done it - I have now officially resigned (well actually not officially as I need to put it in writing)... they were really nice and my top top boss was there (who I had thought wouldn't be) so when I told him he said I could come back whenever I wanted and they all said they were really surprised as they thought I was a career woman (really have no idea where they got that from. I clearly lie better than I thought as I hated my job !) - ahhh !! I can't believe how relieved/happy I feel about it ! Yippeeeeee !!

Given the above, I probably shouldn't have bought dd any christmas pressies but I have as I am a sucker for christmases and birthdays so its more for me really. Mind you, DH doesn't know what i've bought her (other than one thing) so he can unwrap them with her and get excited. Mind you, come boxing day I'll be moaning we haven't got room for all the things others have bought her (and people keep giving me pressies for her)... and then its her birhtday a month later (as with your little ones !).

GLad Linus isn't suffering too much with the pox. No sign here yet but think there is another couple of weeks to go before we can sound the all clear sirens.. ah well... I think it'd be a relief to get them over and done with.

Like the name Wombat, Tipex, Nik's suggestions are good - I'd for cracker I think....
