hello everyone!

Tipex.. think you're right about the feeding. I still sometimes feel self-conscious about getting the bottle and formula. And especially in the earlier days thinking that people were watching me and wondering why I wasn't breastfeeding.
For goodness sake... why is everyone so interested in how babies are fed? Why on earth do they think you'd want to pay for formula and faff around with bottles when you have lovely mummy milk on tap???????

I remember someone on mumsnet once saying that they live/d in Spain and over there they really don't have the same breast/bottle debate going on. You feed your baby.. end of story! No-one is pressured into breastfeeding, or giving up breastfeeding! You just do what you want.

People here are just too nosy I think!

Must dash, Linus bit under the weather and just woke up!

sweetbean · 05/12/2005 16:35

Hi Everyone
Tipex im my exsperance i don't think that you can win either way!i realy wanted to breatfeed but i had no milk ! so ended up bottle feeding after a week of hell wondering why the poor littel might was always hungry and could stay clamped to me for hours (literaly) and not get full.i had some negative comments about bottle feeding but know she is older i have comments like are you still giving her bottels.Sometimes i think that the hardest thing about becoming a mum is having to lisen to unwanted comments and advise from people who should know better than to interfer !!!
But on a more posive note i hope that you feel happier soon and that you carry on doing what is best for you !!!!!!!

pjsmum · 05/12/2005 19:28

Thats twice now the Hv hasn't turned up!! Its a good job that im not really struggling to cope or thinking of harming myself or baby isnt it. thay made such a song and dance over my test score on the first place, really really p*ed off.
Hope all is well with everyone. Had a few horrible nights, dd decided its a great laugh to get up at 3am, not hungry, not crying just wants to play utter nightmare!!

grrr at HV PJsmum...... and at biting babes...

Exciting events in the hazellnut household this evening - I am to be an auntie again. DB has one girl 6 months older than dd and they are now having a boy (had a rough time of it, had CVS hence how they know)....

NoRoosmumAtTheInn · 05/12/2005 20:57

pjm, that's pants huh?!! you def have a good case for complaining - like you say, what if you were really really down & on the verge of something terrible?? or what if someone else on her caseload is...doesn't bear thinking about tbh.

hope you're ok anyway!

tipex - sorry you feel like you're getting flak for bf, but i can't tell you enough that it's all your business, like SL said, NOTHING to do with ignorant observers, whether in a cafe/on a bench in town/in your own home (!) whereever! can see how it being your own family is even more depressing tho. would ignore it if you can - tbh if it were me & someone, esp own family/friends, had a go think i'd go ballistic!! getting het up just imagining it!

as for biting....mucho sympathy! roo also gone to bed tonight without a full feed i think, after biting to blood again. has been fine recently, just today starting to bite again, tho is also teething big style i think - last 3 nights been awful, up from abt 2.45 til 4.30 last night, i'm wrecked! think maybe 4 coming thro at once he was def in pain last night i think. so think it's teething linked? to stop the big style biting of before - put him straight down on floor after bite, i wouldn't even bother telling roo off, he thinks it's seriously funny too! also try not to yelp, that's also hilarious for him
feeding whilst he's asleep is also fine ime, doesn't bother biting then.
hth tipex!

NoRoosmumAtTheInn · 05/12/2005 20:59

congrats HN!

what's a cv thingy?

fruitful · 05/12/2005 21:20

Tipex - I'm bottlefeeding and we left ds with a babysitter for an evening for the first time last week. Too knackered to get organised to go out! I bf'd dd and we were leaving her with a sitter regularly after about 8 weeks.

I think you probably get the "looks" for bottlefeeding at the beginning, then its seen as normal, and then I guess it starts again once they're about one? Who knows. Whereas you'll be able to wean onto beakers when you're ready and never have to do the "getting rid of the bottle" thing.

Mind you , the whole feeding guilt / comments thing isn't restricted to milk, is it. MIL still fusses over whether dh eats right, so I guess it lasts forever...

gossifairyonthexmastree · 06/12/2005 09:22

hello everyone!
been lying low to try and get rid of flu and finally its gone! now leon is ill, not sure whats wrong, dp had to pick him up from nursery yesterday and he's staying home today, crying on and of, not teething as far as i can see/tell, had some apinkillers to no use! very clingy, any tips anyone?

pjsmum, poor you, i think you should make a complaint! as you say good job you are not really bad! i wonder if there are any other mothers out there who really needed that visit from her? leon is up at 3am every night and wants to play too! i know that one

starlover - is linus any better?

tipex - i think busybodies are always going to try amd make us feel bad about how we choose to bring up our kids, but it's our choice; since moving to the bottle at 7 months sometimes i take out the bottle in public, the park/cafes/even when i told some of my good friends i felt an unsaid disaprooval(sp???) even my mum FFS! who didn't bf me!
you keep up the good work and the wonderful way you have chosen to feed your ds, and let no-one be in your way, else i'll 'ave 'em!!!!

roosmum - leon had four teeth at the same time, its hard, but in a way at least they get it over and done with at the same time, thinking of you!

hello sweetbean and welcome, lovely to have an addition to the family!

hazellnut - congrats, the more the merrier i say, i cannot wait until all the cousins can go off and play together!

bye for now, leon needs a cuddle poor thing

xx

HAZELLNUTsroastingonanopenfire · 06/12/2005 16:58

hello all - hope the poorly and teething babies are feeling better ...... Roosmum - someone was telling me today aobut how their ds had 2 teeth at 6 months then nothing till 12 months and 4 popped through in one go....

A CVS Roosmum is one of the secondary tests they do for downs. They had a 1:30 risk following a nuchal scan so had the CVS (I think they take a minute sample of the placenta rather than the fluid like in an amnio but might be wrong ?!) but all clear luckily. Ironically I have another friend who was also getting amnio results yesterday - haven't heard the results though (family friend so my mum is ringing her mum tonight).

gossifairyonthexmastree · 06/12/2005 19:01

ok, just got back from docs, leon has a temp of 49.5! and a viral infection, whatever that means, hopefully it will clear up for thurs!

fruitful · 06/12/2005 19:04

Please say that is a typo? 49.5 is an A&E job surely?

futurity · 06/12/2005 19:27

49.5 is impossible surely!?

We are having a rubbish week...after Suzie being put to sleep last Thursday we were looking forward to a quiet weekend...WRONG! DH was throwing up all Friday night and a bit of Saturday and then I was having problems at the other end on Sunday! And now Sam has it! He started throwing up at lunchtime so have been asking for Mumsnet advice and have just put him to bed after giving him diluted milk (which he hated!). His room is all prepared with millions of changes of clothes/bedding etc! My first son never threw up so this is all new to me.

Blondeinlondon · 06/12/2005 19:52

Hello
We are having a rubbish week too and have had the yukky bug too
I had the throwing up on Friday and DH was ill this morning with the other end as you put it

DS seems to be okay but doing a lot of screaming which I cannot bear
Even screaming when out and about in the buggy so that curtailed my shopping trip yesterday

gossifairyonthexmastree · 06/12/2005 20:29

ok, sorry everyone! 39.5!!
big oops

we have had this bug, all three of us at the same time, so feel for you totally blondy and futurity, not sure what to say except big cuddles and hope it's over soon
we gave leon some cooled boiled water and tried the diuralyte(SP?) which he didn't like
found that he loved his breakfast even if he didn't eat anything else all day, will try and think what else we did

followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 20:32

hi all!

gossifer.. that sounds like Linus! I still have niggly feeling it's an ear thing as he keeps fallig over! and keeps on tipping his head to one side.
Bit sicky yesterday, none today! just whingey and grumpy and not quite himself. Very sleepy too
And he fell over in the bath and got an almighty whack on the side of his face poor little button isn't having a great time of it at the moment.

i am getting slightly nervous, but also very excited aboutt hursday though!!!

gossifairyonthexmastree · 06/12/2005 20:38

starlover, sounds just like leon, i got the doc to check his ears, but he thought they were fine!
he keeps shaking his head and he slept so much today, quite scary isn't it?

followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 20:41

very! especially since he has been not wanting 2 sleeps a day for a while... but yesterday and today went stragiht down and fast asleep within minutes!

he also slept from 6.45-9am last night!!!

I wasn't sure if it was just tiredness because he has been walking so much more lately... or because he isn't feeling great

gossifairyonthexmastree · 06/12/2005 20:42

and at last night

leon has gone down tonight without even having his big feed!

gossifairyonthexmastree · 06/12/2005 20:43

followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 20:47

ahh we could be talking about the same child! Linus hasn't wanted much milk either... or food for that matter..

gossifairyonthexmastree · 06/12/2005 21:17

ok, he's been up and had half his milk and gone back to dreamland.....

HAZELLNUTsroastingonanopenfire · 07/12/2005 08:17
