memphis that's shit with dh not getting the time off with you. I don't think uabu as its hard enough to look after one pet without another in a seperate house. Sil is just being rotten. She doesn't have to do much except open a door

Chulita · 20/06/2011 11:58

memphis you are sooooo not BU. If he won't look after your dog then he can sing for it imo.

woodlands I know this'll sound stupid but I wish S would sleep on me just once in a while! I miss having a little one snoozing on my shoulder.

stac the house thing is ticking along, I'm hoping we'll exchange this week but need to phone the solicitors once the dc are in bed.

Speaking of which, grobags at the double!

Woodlands · 20/06/2011 11:59

Back from the HV. His weight has plateaued a bit, he's only put on 200g in over 2 months and is now back down to the 75th centile. Perfectly normal apparently. She was able to put my mind about the conjunctivitis and I've cancelled the GP appointment. She also said I didn't need to avoid other babies which is good as there's a new exercise class i want to do tomorrow!

Back to the dentist for a filling this afternoon, boo. My mum is looking after J.

Chulita · 20/06/2011 12:39

That reminds me, I need to get S weighed, cheers woodlands! good luck with the dentist

Woodlands · 20/06/2011 13:20

Bakers, I have a question. We kept the top tier of our wedding cake for the christening, and now (over four years later) that date is approaching. WIll the cake still be edible? It still has the icing on it, and a board underneath, so is sealed. If it is edible, presumably I need to take the icing off and re-ice it. How on earth do I go about doing that? I have no idea what I'm doing with royal icing.

Don't worry, I'll be making a normal cake as well! In fact I need to make lots of cake, some for church straight after the service, and then a birthday cake for the party later. So if the cake is vile it isn't the end of the world...

Woodlands · 20/06/2011 13:21

it blatantly won't be edible, will it! why am i kidding myself!

malibustac · 20/06/2011 13:31

Could be used as a show cake woods the symbolism being there and just make cupcakes or something to sit round it for eating.

Woodlands, have you frozen it? I froze the top tier of ours to use for Gwens christening cake, if it's not been frozen though it might be a bit crunchy. But the suggestion to use it as a show cake is a good one, you could have it decorated and have it as a dummy top tier over a new sponge or something.
I hope j's eye is getting better. G had conjunctivitis last week.

I've been in and oyt of the feb 2012 thread, already 4 women have lost their babies. I feel a bit sick about it. I still dont have any pregnancy symptomns at all, so I really can't relax about it yet. My friend had her baby yesterday- 5 days late, 8lb 4oz, with a huge head of ginger hair! She's such a cutie, and I'm so jealous- I don't know how i'm going to wait 8 months!

Two quick questions: is anyone here a subscriber to Which? I need to decide what tumble dryer to buy, but don't want to pay just for one thing. Also, rice cookers: do you have one and are they worth it?

Memphis ya DEFINITELY nbu, you sil is a selfish cow for not being willing to stop.

TSC I'd probably have smacked dh if he'd said that to me. Babies teeth are much sharper than adult teeth. I used to be almost in tears at the end of a feed.

viksam · 20/06/2011 15:11

God needles u sound like ur dying for the baby to be here and im the exact opposite....today anyhow, D has been challenging today and i have been very tired and not very patient and now its pooing it down which is pants as we are supposed to be dog walking. He is still asleep right now but will wake so dont know how we are going to kill 2 hrs before tea if hes in the same mood! How i will cope with days like this when the baby is here i really do not know. I have no faith in my abilities what so ever!
Regarding playing on their own, D doesnt sit and play with one toy for ages he does pootle around loads, he loves his treasure basket because i dont get it out very often so when it comes out its interesting to him, i could do with updating it though really, maybe ill go for a hunt around for some stuff.
Cant believe im pregnant when wimbledon is on for the second year running!
TSC sometimes im glad im not feeding myself, sounds demanding and painfull, hope he comes out of it soon.
stac hows R now and hows she sleeping?

Chulita · 20/06/2011 16:09

woodlands it may be fine, depends on how good a cake it was to start with and whether it is properly sealed in. You could chip the old icing off and have a look/sniff/tiny taste (in that order Grin) and then re-cover with rolled marzipan and readymade icing you get from shops. That'd be a lot easier than making your own royal icing and decorating.

needle the August 2010 thread seemed cursed for the first 3 months, we lost so many little beans I got scared to post on there for a while. This thread was pretty stable but that one was just awful to start with...

tsc bite his c**k at some random point and see how he likes it, that would've cheesed me right off.

viksam you will manage. D will be that bit older and that bit more able to play/get you things/poke the baby.

I just had another piece of treacle tart [fat knacker] I have to stop baking, it's ruining me!

malibustac · 20/06/2011 16:46

Lol at biting his ck chu good news about your house.

viks she's much better thanks. She goes down at 9.30 wakes at 1 (comes into our bed) sleeps till 5 then till about 8 so not unbroken but better. Try not to worry you will be fine with 2. I'm secretly quite envious of your situation and its so cute it may be an xmas baby.

needles try not to get worked up about it. I always used to think I would prefer not to find out till after 12weeks. I think sometimes reading about others causes stress. Did you have symptoms with G.

tsc bummer about your £20, you of all people need cake and crap mags today. I agree with the others let tiny bite dp when he's asleep see how he feels.

woods how did you go at the dentist?

woodlands we're getting both d and b christened together in October and ill be bringing the top tier of our wedding cake. We got married 7 years ago so let me know how yours has turned out because if your cake is inedible then I dread to think what mine is like :o

chulita fingers crossed you finally get the house sorted.

memphis stick to your guns. I think its really rude just expecting people to look after your pets especially if he won't help with yours.

tsc what a knobber (dh not you) b has no teeth and it still hurt like hell when she would bite.

malibustac · 20/06/2011 20:20

Its very quiet on here! Are you busy having a real life? I'm boredGrin. Just had a nice bath, got madam sorted and I'm hoping for an early night not sure it will happen though.

Trudyla · 20/06/2011 20:45

Sorry tsc. Wouldn't know what to do with watercress other than make a soup.

Stac We'll have the baby here and then probably move back to England half a year after or so.
I'm glad your nights are getting better.

I know how you feel about the antenatal threads needle. I've only been reading so far, not contributing and lots of bad things have happened including one lady who found out at her 20 week scan that her baby had died at 16 weeks. I am so so scared of my next scan now. I think it would be best not to read, but I keep going back. Maybe stop before you get too involved?

viks I always wonder how I will cope and am really scared, but I think I felt like that before we had M. Somehow it will all fall into place. Try and not stress about it. I know, easier said than done.

No idea about the cake woodlands but the bakers seem to have it covered. How was the dentist?

memphis If he doesn't look after your dog, I think you should be OK declining on the same grounds.

M is teething. Not surprising really cos she has 7 teeth and so far, they all came in pairs. The 8th should really come soon. She has a sore bum, diarrhoea and can't keep her dummy in when she's trying to get to sleep. The thing is though, that I can't see the new one at all. Normally I can see some white shining through the gums but nothing this time so it might be some time away yet. Poor baby.

memphis83 · 20/06/2011 21:06

Thanks everyone for advice on the cat, I dont blame sil for not wanting to look after the cat she doesnt have pets so she can swan off when she wants, but my mum has always said when you go on hols you have to budget including kennels, when we move next year he will be up shit creek!!!

needle the only thing you can do is try and relax and wait it out,my sil is due tomorrow, she lost her plug today, they have picked a name that everyone pulls a face at, they seem oblivious to it though!

woodlands do what chulita said and get the ready made icing, just ease the old icing off it should be fine.

urgh!! been dentist today, was suppost to have 2 big fillings today but they only did one at the very back, they had to stop as I could feel it, I needed 5 injections and it still hurt, now i can onlu open my mouth a tiny bit as he had to wrench jaw open! had scale and polish too, that even hurt, wonder why I was so sensitive to it all today? also got my appointment for nerve testing on my arm as the carpel tunnel I got while pg with L is worse so they may want to operate!
L screamed until he was shaking today when a boy the same age was babbling to him in Asda, he was really scared and normally loves other kids, he was in bed at 6 again, the past few days he has started walking everywhere unaided so he is really tired out!

Chulita · 20/06/2011 21:29

Bit late tsc but you can just get salmon, shove in foil with watercress on top and lemon juice, salt and crushed pepper, wrap into parcels and bake. Tastes amazing :)

Chulita · 20/06/2011 21:32

memphis that sounds awful :( You've really had a run of it with dentists haven't you?! And poor L, it might just be all the walking/development that's throwing him off. I find my two get very touchy and odd when their little brains are trying to come to terms with something big they've just learnt to do.

Woodlands · 20/06/2011 22:24

That sounds so grim memphis! I had a shitty time at the dentist too, the injection seemed to last forever and then it didn't even work for me either, it still bloody hurt when she drilled. She waited a couple of minutes and then tried again but it still hurt. my mouth only went properly numb once I'd left the surgery. She also scraped the tartar off all my teeth and that bloody bloody hurt too.

Ah well, all done and at least it was free for a change!

woodlands your right at leat its free, it was the first time the dentist has ever hurt me, I hate the scale when they take the plaque off, it really hurts!!

mlic poor W what a great start to your holiday, think having your dogs at home is better if they get let out a few times but I bet you dont assume your friends will have them, the kennel I used to take my dog too was one of the best and they only took them for one walk a day on a lead, no running for 15 mins.
chulita the health problems I have effect my teeth and gums in a big way, I really look after them, I wonder how bad they would be if I didnt take as much care of them, yesterday was they first time in 10 years that I have been dentist and not had gum disease!!! I think your right about L's brain working overtime!

My sil is contracting but the hospital has sent my brother home as it wasnt progressing and there are other women on ward, which I thought was odd!

Going B & Q later to get plants I cant kill, bark for my rockery and some turf to repair where the dog has tried to dig to the center of the earth, I hate gardening, dh's job but he never weeds so I end up doing it, sadly I dont kno what weeds are and which are plants so I pulled everything up but a grassy effect thing!!!

malibustac · 21/06/2011 08:28

Morning all,

memphis you must be sick of the dentist. Poor l I'm sure he'll settle down soon

mlic poor W its amazing how much blood comes out isn't it. R did the same thing last week but it was off of J's knee.

How are you all this morning? I was supposed to be meeting my friend but her dp has been taken into hospital, don't know what for yet. Its raining so will see how the weather pans out and may take R to the park for some power walking.

Chulita · 21/06/2011 08:59

memphis get a couple of blueberry bushes. They're very easy to look after and produce shedloads of berries around July/August time. Babies love 'em! Fingers crossed for your sil!

mlic hopefully they'll settle down for the rest of the holiday or it won't be much of a get-away at all. Poor little W and his bruised tongue, S did that a couple of weeks ago and it looked very painful.

stac don't let rain stop you :)

I'm waiting for a GP to phone back then we'll be off to stay and play around 10. I need to find something to wear for this wedding on Saturday but cba to go shopping. I might go into town tomorrow, need the air-con fixing on the car so could wander while they're having a look at it.
L has permanent squits, not sure what it is but yesterday it resulted in 4 poos, 3 in pants and one of which dribbled all over the carpet I just can't handle cleaning up diarrhoea and need her to get sorted. She won't poo in the toilet/potty so it's always in pants and it's absolutely vile. She's honestly had maybe 20 solid poos her entire life - doing my head in.
