Hey holidayer mlic. Good to hear from you. Shit that you are not having much fun yet. Fingers crossed it will get better.

chulita Poor L. That can't be nice for either of you. I agree with mlic in that they should provide you with some kind of help asap.

tsc What did you do with the watercress in the end?

woodlands How come the dentist is free of charge?

kk You've been quiet. Are you around? Are you OK?

I shudder at all of your tales of blood and falls and biting tongues. I am so scared of the times when M will really hurt herself. I hate the thought of anything bad happening to her. I spent last night crying because I have a dermatologist appointment next week for some weird skin thing and I convinced myself that I was gonna die and M was gonna be all alone. I couldn't stop sobbing. Blimey, the sooner that therapy starts the better, I think.

My midwife is coming today to check out baby in belly. Then in the afternoon I have the big appointment about M. We'll see how that goes.

Have a good day all.

trudy, the dentist is free while you have an NHS maternity exemption card, which you get when you're pregnant and is valid till a year after your due date. she said we could watch and wait with this filling, but i decided to get it done as it's free now but only for another month. i also have to go back to being a private patient as am still on the bloody nhs waiting list at my practice, so it will be even more expensive. might try to find an nhs dentist locally - my dentist is in central london which is a faff.

hope the appointment goes well this afternoon.

off to a new exercise class this morning at the end of my road. you can take babies under one. not sure if there is a creche or what!

chulita have they ever given her anything to bind her? does she eat much fibre?
woodlands you can ring nhs direct and they give you numbers of local dentists with nhs places, every dentist here has places but when I lived in Wales there was only one and no one wanted to go to her as she broke someones jaw while extracting a tooth!!!

what is everyone getting for the 1st birthday presents? we have got L a quad that pushes along and it also has a parent bar, I wanted to get a little tykes cosy coupe as he loves our friends but dh thinks they are too big, we have also got him a traditional walker full of wooden blocks didnt want him having it till walking so he doesnt depend on it as I think the traditional ones topple too easily!

just got 3 bags of gravel, bark, and turf whick was only 50p per roll and a load of lovely plants all on offer, got 6 plants for £1!! no one helped me carry them so im covered in mud and too knackered to get them from the car!! then went Wilkos and L decided he didnt want to walk he wanted to sit in the pull aong basket!!

sil will have baby within a few hours, feel a bit Envy that she is having a short labour after sitting on her arse for 9 months not even hoovering or washing up but I got told if you stay active you weill have an easy birth so I stayed active and had a shit labour

malibustac · 21/06/2011 11:04

{Hugs} trudy pregnancy hormones and anxiety mixed are really shit. I am going to sound mad but in my first trimester with R I was convinced something bad would happen to her or us all caused no end of panic attacks. The doc ended up putting me on a low anti-d when I hit 12weeks. When does your therapy start?

Hope you have a good day mlic

tsc what have you decided to get F for his birthday?

chu hope l's better soon, your right I shouldn't let rain stop me but I don't have a waterproof jacket. Product of always driving.

Quick aibu - remember mil was in hospital? Well she was told no smoking at all. Now after nearly 2 weeks without a cigarette sil is going to buy her one of those electronic cigarettes. When she text this I said I thought I was stupid and would just lead her to want a real cigarette. Sil said mil is struggling and she feels guilty saying no. I said well better to feel guilty now than to let her smoke and not be here. Was I too harsh? I feel it was for mil's own good but i have a feeling they will let her smoke anyway! I don't get how the e-cigarette is helpful anyone know onayone that's used I with good results or is it just a swap for fags?

malibustac · 21/06/2011 11:11

In laws bought R the quad for birthday memphis hers is from argos and rocks, is a push along, sit and ride and has the parent bar. They got it months ago as it was in the sale. Sounds like good bargain hunting.

memphis83 · 21/06/2011 12:00

stac thats the one we have got, weve also had it months probably in the sam e sale, next year dh is buying him a 50cc real baby quad!
I remember mil being ill, those cigarettes give you nicotine without the smoke so they can be smoked indoors imo i think they are just as harmful as they give nicotine, a few of my heavy smoker friends have them for when we are out in the winter and dont want to venture outside!, my friends nan (whose was quite young) had chest problems, she was in hospital and wanted a fag, she used to sneak one in at lunch and teatime (real ones not the fake ones) so 2 a day as she felt guilty as she craved them so bad, she was dead within 6 weeks of her starting it, the whole family have now turned against her as she would still be here if she hadnt done it, i was there once when she gave her it she literally went grey as she smoked as her chest couldnt cope with it and docs had warned her never to touch one again!

malibustac · 21/06/2011 12:07

That's what I mean with sil as I know dp would hate her for it. He's been refusing to let her have cigarettes for ages. She was frightening looking the other week. Dp thought she was a goner. It just seems incredibly selfish to allow her to smoke when its killing her xx

memphis83 · 21/06/2011 12:08

seems so selfish on her part, what would dp do if you told him her plans?

Needle · 21/06/2011 12:46

stac, the electronic thing is probably better than a real one, however, if she is effectively trapped, and can't buy them for herself, it seems like a goid opportunity to make her go cold turkey.

malibustac · 21/06/2011 12:51

memphis She wouldn't want her husband to know she is smoking so if sil gives her them then dp will tell his dad who will go mad at them for it.

needle the thing that's bugging me is according to sil she hasn't had a smoke for nearly 2 weeks so she has went cold turkey. If this is the case she is getting over the worse of the cravings.

Woodlands · 21/06/2011 12:59

Yes, I believe the first five days are the worst when quitting smoking, so she's over the worst. But an electronic one is better than the real ones.

The class was good, J just sat and played with toys. It was a mixture of boxing, core stuff and yoga - odd mixture but quite good! Then I went to the charity shop next door and bought J a pair of Mini Boden trousers(though noticed when I got home they have a hole at the knee, never mind), a pair of shorts, a shape sorter bus (with a couple of the shapes missing, but it's nice apart from that!), a pull along wooden crocodile and a plastic crocodile push along thing, all for £3! And the exercise class was only £1.50 as it's run by the children's centre, so a nice morning of bargains!

memphis83 · 21/06/2011 14:02

stac I would personally tell dp, you wouldnt want his family knowing you knew about it? if she is house bound then she shouldnt be being bought fags, fake or real they both contain nicotine. my mum gives up a lot, then starts its not because she is NEEDING one its because she lives on her own and after work sits at home bored and as shes worried about putting on weight she thinks oh i will smoke as they are fat free, she would have had the shock of her life last night as she hides the pack, I found it and took out the contents!!! Grin
tsc Tesco have got a toy and baby event on, ive just bought L a mega blocks pull along pirate ship for £15 instead of £30
woodlands thats a real bargain, you could get a little applique patch to cover hole or they would be ok for crawling around garden in, ive now had to get cheaper trousers for L to ruin in the garden!

Woodlands · 21/06/2011 14:26

Well exactly, they're 18-24 months so he won't fit into them for a bit - and once he's at nursery his clothes are going to get wrecked anyway so I might has well have tons of cheap clothes that don't matter!

Not sure what to get J for his birthday - maybe a ride on toy. DH says we're buying him an expensive new car seat and a nursery place anyway, won't that do? No, don't be such a mean dad!

malibustac · 21/06/2011 14:53

I did tell him memphis also told him his sis is on effect helping to kill his mum. His mum says its the only thing she does which is fair enough but not when a doc told her she would die if she doesn't stop it.

Great bargains woods I always forget charity shops.

tsc we're not spending a lot on R either xx

kkfairybrains · 21/06/2011 14:57

RI'm here trude! all good just had a mega busy weekend and have been reading but no time to post! Really hope this therapy works for you. Can't say i know how you feel but it sounds horrible
stac you should tell dp. You dont want it falling baxk on you that you knew what was going on. But then it might cause arguments so i dont know!
Poor little W mlic Sad been a bad week for accidents for you. Hope your holiday picks up sleep wise and fun wise!
We're getting E swings for the garden. And a load of clothes. Was going to get one of them trike things that you can push along but i dont think we would get the use out of it

Dylthan · 21/06/2011 15:24

stac The doctors in the hospital I work in have been prescribing the nicorette inhalators a lot recently. They are definatly better than real cigarettes. I think in real cigarettes its not the nicotine that is really bad for you but the somthing like 600 other chemicals like tar and arsnic and things.
The inhalators are not like smoking they simply take the edge off cravings which is not a bad thing imo.

Dylthan · 21/06/2011 15:48

A little bit about Nicotine replacement therapy.

Nicotine and NRT do not cause cancer Studies show that NRT is a safe alternative to cigarettes for smokers, and DOES NOT cause cancer or heart attacks, even for smokers who already have had heart attacks or heart disease. Nicotine is not the dangerous chemical in cigarettes. Cigarette smoke contains many harmful chemicals, and it is these, not nicotine, that are responsible for the heart attacks, cancer, and lung disease. The risks of cigarette smoking are much greater than the risks of NRT. NRT packages come with many warnings and directions that can lead a person to believe that NRT is far more risky than it actually is. It is a mistake to think that any NRT product is as dangerous as cigarettes.

Using NRT is not trading one nicotine addiction for another because the likelihood of long-term dependence to NRT is very low. NRT is much less addictive than cigarettes. Some smokers worry about becoming addicted to NRT or becoming ?hooked on? the gum, lozenge, or patch. While it is true that the nicotine in NRT products is addictive, smokers are already addicted to nicotine--they get a lot more of it from each cigarette they smoke than from any NRT product.

The amount of nicotine delivered in NRT is less than in cigarettes and is controlled and delivered more slowly. Smokers usually do not get as much nicotine from NRTs as from cigarettes, nor do they find NRT as enjoyable to use as cigarettes. This is because breathing in smoke through the lungs gives the brain a rush of nicotine within ten seconds of each inhalation while NRT gives nicotine more slowly through the skin or lining of the mouth. In fact, most smokers don?t use enough NRT to get all the help they could to stop smoking.

If you are concerned I would speak to a doctor or pharmacist before giving her anything as there could be a reason why NRT isn't sutable for her but she is twice as likely to never have a cigarette again if she uses NRT and dosnt go cold turkey.

malibustac · 21/06/2011 16:11

Thanks dythlan but its not the inhalator she is buying its an e-cigarette that has bought, I don't know much about it but the design means it actually produces a smoke that comes out your mouth, do you know anything about these? I think my problem is it has been 2 weeks since her last cigarette so I don't get why she needs a replacement now, why not keep going. My suspicions are sil has been giving her a sly puff.

I spoke to dp today, it won't cause fights with sil and I as she is aware I don't keep things from him. From his point of view he just wants his sis to know he won't sit back and let her give his mum cigarettes. I don't think there's an objection to an inhalator.

Dylthan · 21/06/2011 16:21

I have no idea what an e-cigarette is but if she goes to the doctor she should get proper help and support and also free NRT on a prescription.

I'm very surprised that the hospital didn't help by starting her off with something.

I really hope your sil hasn't been giving her sly ones because that helps no one.

Chulita · 21/06/2011 16:38

Doesn't the e-cig just produce steam? I didn't think it was smoke but just like a 'dry ice' type thing.

tsc we keep getting told it's toddler diarrhoea and she'll grow out of it but she hasn't. We tried her dairy free for a couple of months last year and it made no difference at all. It's worse if she eats too much fruit but even if I don't give her any fruit it's still runny. It was bad enough in nappies but now with toilet training it's a freaking nightmare. I just hope it's something that can be fixed.
I agree with you mlic I reckon her skin is tied into all this.

We're not getting S anything for his birthday, he's too young to know and we've got lots of random toys around so he doesn't need anything. Might sound harsh but honestly he's got everything he needs. Unless something amazing jumps out at me when we go shopping he'll have an extra spoonful of porridge or something. He won't eat cake/bread/biscuits so we'll have to polish that off for him!

woodlands I love charity shops but they're so expensive around here, £4 for a George top Hmm probs cost that new! You sound like you've got some good centres around there, a cheap exercise group with childcare, I need some of them.

Dylthan · 21/06/2011 17:02

stac just to add as well from a personal point of view it is 5 years since I last had a cigarette and I still somtimes crave one so two weeks is nothing. My granny has also said that when she smells cigarette smoke she wishes she could have one and its been about 20+ years since she last smoked.

I used patches to give up they helped with the cravings but it was the act of smoking that was the hardest to break. On my own the patches were great but when I was around other smokers it was almost impossible to not have one (and sometimes still is).

I heard once that stopping smoking is harder than giving up heroin because once you have gotten rid of all the heroin from your body you no longer crave it where as with cigarettes the receptors that are turned on in your brain when you start smoking can never be fully turned off so you will always crave cigarettes. I don't know how true that is but it certainly feels like it sometimes.
