Enter all ye ESHes. We've been Barren, we've been Pregnant - now at last we are Child-Rearing.

  • Come share your questionable tips on raising a real live baybee!
  • Compete with Cunty to take control of the bad mummy crown!
  • Eat crap ham - after all, you deserve it!

Rocket if you do want to get out on bike earlier you can put them in a trailer from younger than they can go on a seat, you can get trailers you can put car seats in for example.

FannyPriceless · 01/07/2011 09:18

cos / rocket if you really want to be active with a baby, how about this? When MrP was in Ottawa for work there was a big park in the middle of the city, deep in snow with ski trails all over the place. He saw a mum zooming along through the snow on cross country skis towing her wee baby in a car seat attached to some special skis behind her!Grin

Cosmosis · 01/07/2011 09:28

now that is cool!

rocketleaf · 01/07/2011 10:11

That IS cool. But would probably end in tears if i tried it. Noted re the trailer cos always thought one of those would be handy for the allotment too. Imagine Sprout peaking out from a trailer stuffed full of vege in some sort of twisted Anne Geddes spoof.

AlpinePony · 01/07/2011 11:39

fanny You will need to give me all your tips on how to give a good interview and exude confidence. I think I'm good, but I'm not very good at projecting that.

Has anyone seen the new ad for mumsnet/local? "Best ham shop"! Grin

silv I don't know what to say about the horse. I will be keeping the nag during this pregnancy because my mum has backed out of her offer. Hmm Par for the course! I will ride when I can. Went up this morning for the trimmer with a view to riding, then realised my hat was at home. I only ride hatless once every 10 years and figured I'd do it today... then came over so dizzy I had to sit down (whilst holding nag). Decided if I couldn't even stand up without assistance then today would not be the best for riding sans hat!

I'm starting to remember just how fucking brilliant I am at pregnancy. Hmm

Cosmosis · 01/07/2011 12:08

Alps have you tried ginger biscuits.

rocketleaf · 01/07/2011 12:15

What about peppermint tea?

Cosmosis · 01/07/2011 12:30

Alpro I have just realised today is not 31st June!!!

Happy Birthday Bear!!!!!!

FannyPriceless · 01/07/2011 12:30

Ginger biscuits? Peppermint tea? Surely she should try a wedge of stinky brie, 1 kg of undercooked lambs liver, unwashed salad leaves, and a couple of martinis to wash it all down. I've heard interesting things about vodka pizzas too.Wink

alps I am quite serious when I say it was the worst interview I have given in my entire life. My hands were shaking when the HR person came to get me from the room where I had prepared the presentation - to the point where she had to put the memory stick together for me.Blush She looked at me and said ' Don't worry, everyone's in the same boat' so I knew it was rather obvious!

To be honest I think it was my CV that got me the job, not the interview. Either that or they have really terrible judgement and I should therefore be worried about going to work for them.Wink

I think that because it all happened so quickly I had less time to worry before and after, so all I wanted to achieve was to get out of the interview room without falling apart or bursting in to tears. When they said 'that's the last question' the relief that washed over me was indescribable. I just thought - it doesn't matter what happens now, I survived an interview for a proper job.

MrP thinks my confidence levels have gone through the ceiling since all this. Apparently I've been a bit cheeky and need to 'know my place' or somesuch nonsense. (Actually I think he is pretty chuffed to have a wife with a fancy job again!Grin)

Happy birthday!

PollyPoo · 01/07/2011 21:52

So.... we have moved. We have t'internet at last and I have finally caught up with you lot. Seems like I missed a lot..

Firstly, very happy birthday to Bear! And bloody massive congrats to Alps! Brilliant news. Although not on the vomming front. I really hope you get the regular 'gone after month 3' kind of vomming this time.

Fans great news on the job, I'm dying to hear all about it so will send you an email. I bet you will be missed in the village shop.

Casp if you are lurking I hope you are having fab hollibobs.

Scropey I am soooo sorry you are still suffering horrendous health probs. It is so fucking unfair. How did you get on with the BF lady this week?

Sorry if I have missed anyone. I've had a few glasses of vino and my brain is disengaged. TG is away this weekend. Yes, again. Hmm Therefore I am planning on watching whatever rubbish I want on TV, drinking his booze and eating his cake stash. This is the second time in a month that he has abandoned me with both children so I reckon fair is fair.

Oh just remembered - I forgot Box! Don't suppose anyone caught the dismount on camera? Sounds rather dramatic! Hope you are doing ok Box, are you back at home now?

Anyway, time for more booze I think. Bottoms up!

FannyPriceless · 01/07/2011 22:02

Cheers, polls!Grin

Bloody men eh? He bought a bloody enormo-cake which he then declared he wouldn't eat because it had cream on it. Well the baby can't eat it all either. Hmm He's such a feeder.

Anyway, I've been re-reading the PESH thread from last year when I laid (and curly and cunty) too and I have been lol'ing my head off.

E.g., box getting irate about people who want to know if they're spontaneously go in to labour at 29 weeks whilst changing gear if they drive on their own.

But my favourite of all perhaps is polly & honey's rage at filthy, dirty menfolk:

Dog Shit and Dog Hair

PollyPoo · 02/07/2011 10:16

Hehe, I just had a flick through that thread Ski. Brings back fond memories - it was so exciting all those little ESH baybees arriving early! Wish I could say that TG has improved since then.... unfortunately I think he is worse. Hmm How is that even possible? If you hear of a man bludgeoned to death by his wife wielding a dirty plate in the zummerset area, it will be TG. Lucky for him he is away this weekend. I have cleaned and made the house look nice (well, as nice as it can look anyway) safe in the knowledge that it will stay that way until the lazy fucker gets home on Monday. Now I am going to tackle the garden and get a bit of a tan hopefully at the same time. I love the summer I do. Grin Is it too early for Pimms?

What is everyone else up to this weekend?

SilverSky · 02/07/2011 10:53

Well I remember what a larf girls nights out are. Am already booking in the next one!!! Didn't get home til 2am AND I mixed my drinks!! AND I didn't vom! Grin

Wasn't too impressed that had to elbow HI to go to see to MB at 630 cos he was awake and as I had asked him to be on duty so I could suffer in peace catch up on my beauty sleep this morning. Then I was less impressed when he brought a hyper MB back into our bed around 730!!!!! I'm trying to sleep numbnuts! He asked if I want him to take him downstairs. How stoopid can he be and how selfish?! Oh and I didn't mention how he asked me to keep MB in bed with me whilst he defrosted the milk. Last week when we were away I took MB out of the bedroom once he was awake so he could sleep etc, funny how it doesn't occur to do the same for me in return! Eejit.

The rest of today will be spent doing v little apart from the necessary dog/hoss/childcare stuff as HI goes to work later. Tmw we are seeing pals and lunching out. Will be nice.

rocketleaf · 02/07/2011 13:18

silvs I had finally got Sprout off to sleep at about 11 this morning after she had been awake since 7 and rather fractious. TB went to the dump. I decided to have a little nap too when the doorbell goes. TB had forgotten his keys :-( he then followed me back to the bedroom and as Sprout started stirring he stuck his face in her snd woke her up properly. When I said that probably wasn't a great idea he said I should have told him to leave us alone. Um, common sense, isn't it? MEN!! At least he's tidy though

Right, what can I eat that will make my baby poo? I've tried prunes, I am wondering if guiness would work

SilverSky · 02/07/2011 13:45

Fruit juice I think is a good one.

I hate it that men always use the excuse "you only need to ask/tell". Like you I wish they used their brains and thought for themselves.

rocketleaf · 02/07/2011 16:41

Hmm I probably do need to drink more juice, I stopped buying it during pregnancy as it gave me heart burn and haven't got back into the habit.

rocketleaf · 02/07/2011 16:43

Feel a bit bad now as TB has gone on a massive cleaning spree, he's not a bad chap really Blush Think he just wanted quality time with his girl as he has only just gone back to work and is missing her during the day. Not his fault I was tired and needed her to nap so I could and he did offer to take her away so I could sleep.

Medee · 02/07/2011 18:31

MrM has finally been successful in getting EA to nap, on him, as she has needed to do al afternoon. Unfortunately it is on him and only an hour from bedtime!

Anyone with legal knowledge gratefully referred to my legal matters thread on jury duty.

rocketleaf · 02/07/2011 20:11

Can I ask a stupid question about cot sheets? When my cousin gave me the moses basket she also gave me a load of bedding including some flat sheets. I have never used them, we just use a cellular blanket and fold it depending on the temperature. I can't see the point in top sheets, am I missing something?

meds that is unfortunate. can you skip bedtime routine and just transfer her? Or would she wake up if you tried to move her? TB has just gone to settle Sprout, I imagine he has his finger in her mouth right now. Not sure this bedtime thing is really a routine or just pot luck.

sorry legally clueless.

Muser · 02/07/2011 20:17

I have no clue about cot sheets. I thought you were only meant to use cellular blankets as they are safer. We use a sleeping bag now, she looks super cute in it. And bedtime is still more luck than judgment here.

Medee · 02/07/2011 20:20

we just used a series of blankets depending on the temperature when she was in the MB - we got into the habit in hospital of using several as she couldn't keep her temperature up. Now she is in the cot, just use the sleeping bag and occasionally an extra sheet to cover her hands, but that always comes off.

She awoke, so we did bedtime routine a little earlier, after don't know how many feeds - think we are on the next wonder week. Still, she's down now and we are cooking dinner to hopefully eat together, both two-handed!

I got the legal answer ta, all should be well.

Lighttaperstandback · 02/07/2011 21:46

Was just about to bustle off and answer your legal q (am lawyer, innit) but seems like you're already sorted.

All we ever used for Squib was regular blankets, until he got to the age where he started thrashing around and they didn't stay on, and we moved on to sleeping bags. We have more blankets then I have a clue what to do with...though no cot sheets. I suppose for really warm weather instead of blanket? Confused

Got a couple of hours off to finally buy a new pair of jeans today. Got a pair that fits ok but my lord I have to do something about this muffin top. Has anyone else found that weight distribution has changed post preggo-ness? I used to pile it on my arse, but nowadays it seems to settle higher up. Or am I just getting old?
