Hello ladies, hope you found your way over here okay!

Our little newborns are newborns no more! :( :)

Hopefully a while yet before teething and weaning starts, but there's definitely a lot of wiggling and squealing going on already :o

Thanks Bubba I just didn't realise that reflux would make him cough, figured it was just because of the bronchiolitis and colds he keeps getting. Like you say though it's good that we seemed to have stumbled on a 'cure'. I haven't taken him to the GP about it as you can get Infant Gaviscon without prescription. If it continues to work I'll probably talk to them as it's going to get expensive!
Have you thawed out from the Scotland trip yet? Grin
Also meant to ask you for a family tent recommendation (you do go camping don't you, I haven't just made that up Confused).

Flubba · 18/04/2012 22:19

I meant that you'd been to the doc's before with his colds etc, and they didn't pick up on it possibly being a side effect of reflux. A friend of mine's baby had 'silent' reflux - can't quite remember the symptoms but might be worth looking into?
Def. get it on prescription if you find it works - it'll save you loads.

Yes, thawed out, although there was hail here yesterday - we didn't have any of that oop north Wink :)

We've currently got a vango tigris 400 - (a 4-man for the five of us Confused). We love it as it's got standing room in the main bit, two doors, a porch bit and shed loads of pockets. you can't have enough pockets in a tent IMHO :o :o. You definitely want a SIG (sewn-in-groundsheet), min. 4000HH (water-proofness), and preferably an outside porch bit to store all your crap. We also have a 'carpet' which is luxurious! - no stepping out on cold, damp groundsheet. It's basically a posh woven picnic rug but well worth it. We got ours on ebay with loads of extras from some posh campers who were upgrading - loads out there esp. from people who've given camping a go and then realised it's not for them :o

Fuzzywood · 18/04/2012 22:40

Will check out the tent, when I give up work it'll have to be cheaper holidays from now on Grin. Check you out with your carpet, sounds lovely!

I knew what you meant about the docs just didn't word my reply very well. None of them ever mentioned a cough could be associated with reflux. Will do some research to see if there's anything else I can do to help him. He's just had another bottle of milk with Gaviscon in it and seems to have settled fine with no coughing, such a relief.

GP probably doesn't know that coughing is a symptom of reflux. We found that unless the baby is throwing up and losing weight, they didn't want to know. We really had to push for a paeds referral for Alys. Hopefully the gaviscon will work out for you all.

Thinking of changing Alys' middle name to "trail of destruction". I picked her up from nursery a bit earlier today so she was more lively. I'd put a basil plant on the coffee table on lounge which she made a beeline for and tried to eat the leaves straight off the plant. As a result I had to spend several minutes sweeping soil off the floor while Alys wandered off to the kitchen to continue her demolition. Found her trying to neck the Lea & Perrins, took the stock cubes off her again and then had to sweep up again when she managed to flick the lid off the peppercorns. Think I need to up my game.

Hahaha! They both sound like Lachlan - he's a blimmin' nightmare! Also loves the loo - and has discovered the joys of putting the loo paper down the loo. Also either puts the cats' biscuits in their water, or posts them out of the cat flap. He can also climb up ONTO the table and play with the knives or jams or whatever we've left there. Enjoys tipping the entire box of pencils all over the place and does the same with all my threads and bobbins. Hmm :o :o

gallicgirl · 21/04/2012 10:18

Oh yeah, all sorts get thrown into the bath.

Going to try and take her for a haircut later. Wish me luck.

Fuzzywood · 21/04/2012 21:04

How's Alys' hair Gallic? A hairdresser comes into nursery here so I don't have to go through that nightmare worry about it!
We also have a destruction machine here, thinking if changing his name to Denis Grin nothing is safe and he can now open the doors upstairs so I can't even keep him out of rooms I don't want him in.
We have mastered walking properly in the last few days, 20 odd steps at a time. Now if he could just master stopping with a method that doesn't involve face planting if there's nothing to grab hold of, all would be good Hmm Grin.

Gaviscon still doing wonders here, hurrah!

RunningKatie · 24/04/2012 19:34

How was the haircut gallic?

I'm loving the destruction machine stories, glad to know it's not just us, sometimes I just want to sit and wail when I see what Isobel's up to! She seems to have taken an orienteering course unbeknownst to me which is a challenge at times, I do have eyes in the back of my head now.

gallicgirl · 24/04/2012 21:00

I didn't get it cut in the end, we ran out of time so I'll try at some other point. I wish a hairdresser came into nursery but then I guess they have to get instruction from parents and there could be trouble if a kid comes home with a bad cut.

Alys hasn't bothered walking since that first time. Ticked it off her list and doesn't need to do it again.

Although the destruction is hard work, I am actually fairly laid back about it. I treat it as part of the learning process, remove the dangerous stuff and tidy up when she's gone to bed. I know there's going to be worse battles ahead.

How's the moving going running? We're looking at moving back to Lancashire and in my head I'm thinking it will be Christmas but DP has come home today talking about the summer. Biiiiiiiiiit stressful....

Confused
RunningKatie · 27/04/2012 19:58

No sign of the move yet Gallic :( - we dropped the price 2 weeks ago and we're averaging a viewing a week, but have only had one lot of crazy offers from some wide-boy investor types. I've said to DH that if we've not moved by 1st September i'm not moving until the baby arrives. His Mum helpfully pointed out she'd moved house with 4 month old twins, but what she forgets is she moved 5 miles down the road, back into the village that she and her DH grew up in - whereas we'd be moving 50+ miles away to where I'd know nobody. I'm sticking to my guns! Grin

It's a slow market. Have you used property snake and property bee? Might give you an idea of whether the price is realistic. I've forgotten where you said you were moving to, Chesterfield? It's fun looking at properties to buy though, wanna see my dream home? I'll just ignore that I'm supposed to be updating my cv so I can get a job.

RunningKatie · 07/05/2012 21:00

We've sold Gallic! Offer accepted Friday morning, sold to a landlord which I always said I wouldn't do, but the first time buyers just weren't coming round. Also think we gave it away a bit but in this market I really can't tell.

We're (hopefully) moving to Sheffield now, looked round 6 places on Saturday and we weren't blown away by any but have 2 that we're going to second view on Saturday. I think I'm too practical to fall in love with a house, I can just see them working for us.

How are all the little ones? Iz has been teething and had another cold, she's gone from loving having her teeth cleaned to refusing, hopefully once the teething eases we can get over that again.

Flubba · 07/05/2012 21:16

Hey congrats running ! Great news. I did do a double take then when I mis-read your post as saying you'd looked round 6- bedroomed places on Sat Shock :o

Lachlan's a real handful but gorgeous with it, so all is forgiven. He's very much a mummy's boy though, and if anyone else dare cuddle me, he runs over and marks his territory, stopping short of weeing on me :o

Fuzzywood · 09/05/2012 11:59

Great news about the house sale Running.
We're currently in Disney World in Florida. Ev and DD are having a brilliant time but it's a bit like an endurance test for adults Grin.
As per usual for us we've had a trip to hospital whilst here Hmm. Evan has another bout of bronchilitis and possible pneumonia. Thank goodness for travel insurance. US medical care is excellent but soooo expensive. He's on the mend now though so we're off to a water park later then will continue our hunt for Mickey, the queues to meet him so far have been huge so hoping to find a quieter time for DD to meet him.

RunningKatie · 13/05/2012 20:19

Very envious of Disney World Fuzzy - sounds like the DC's had a great time. Hope that Ev recovered ok and managed to meet Mickey!

DH is away all week with work, Iz is being a nightmare at going to bed so I've got 6 scary long nights to deal with her on my own. Eeek.

I'm loving the idea of L marking his territory Flubba, although probably a good thing he doesn't pee on you!

Are you ok & still out there jjkm?

Ev much better now thanks. Though he seems to have given up sleeping. I'm running out of ideas to get him to settle and stay that way without having a huge screaming sessions. Hoping it's just down to jet lag and change of scenery .
I still can't get over the cost of the medical care in the US, he had the same treatment in Barbados for $200. I can only begin to imagine what the girls care is costing JJKM. Makes me even more thankful for the NHS.

We did meet Mickey, twice in the end, the DC loved that and everything else about it. Before we went I wasn't that keen on the idea of a Disneyworld holiday but it was fantastic, would highly recommend it Grin

bump and bookmark

Hope UK-ers are enjoying the change in weather (finally!)

Fuzzywood · 24/05/2012 22:56

Loving the weather after a couple of weeks freezing my butt off when back from holiday. Not loving the housepipe ban though, watering the garden with a watering can takes aaaaages.
I resigned this week Grin. Was planning on leaving in August but decided there was little point in staying, big re-org and a take over happening and I don't need to be there for the money so going to spend a lazy summer with the DC. It's very exciting and a bit scary too. I've worked since I left uni (maternity leave aside) and it'll be very strange to not be earning my own money. Have told DH all he needs to do is get his salary paid into the joint account and give me his credit card. Can't understand why heclooked like this -> Hmm

Flubba · 25/05/2012 06:17

Yay! Congrats Fuzzy that must feel liberating!

FWIW I ignored the look on DH's face and just went ahead and got him money paid in. He's in the black for the first time in his life! :o

Camping this weekend :o

Do you think I overuse the smilies? Hmm Blush :o

Thanks
