Hello ladies, hope you found your way over here okay!

Our little newborns are newborns no more! :( :)

Hopefully a while yet before teething and weaning starts, but there's definitely a lot of wiggling and squealing going on already :o

FlubbaBubba · 24/05/2011 19:16

Hey gallic (wave emoticon) Hmm

L rolls onto his side sporadically and from front to back or vice versa when I give him a good shove ! :o He was supposed to have his jabs today, but have had to be postponed because of the antibiotics.

We've just come back from A&E our second home with DD1 and what was a suspected broken nose >>disclaimer - the accident happened at pre-school, not at home

saltnvinigarcrips · 24/05/2011 20:26

Ooh sounds pretty nasty flubba. I thought i'd broken my nose a few years ago - a drunken incident- but although I hadn't - i did bend the bone. Hope your DD1 is okay.

Henry's injections were fine - the best yet! He barely cried at all thank goodness. TMI coming up but I also had my smear test Shock which also was the quickest and most pain free I've ever had. At least there's one bonus to having gone through labour; my cervix was readily available! Grin Blush Don't know why I needed to share that but I guess I just did.
As for rolling still no joy although DS keeps thinking he is a crab and pushing himself up when on his back. I heard of a baby who crawled like that so hoping he doesn't as it reminds me of that bit in the 'Exorcist' when she crawls down the stairs.

Fuzzywood · 24/05/2011 21:50

Oh Bubba your poor DD, I broke my nose when I was about 5 it hurt! Hope she's ok.
My Paris trip was indeed a wonderful present from DH. Me and my mum had a fantastic time, it was lovely to spend some kid free time with her. Back to normality with a bump now though as DH is away with work mist of the week.
Welcome back Salt, glad you had a good holiday and the jabs went well. Not sure when Evan's are yet but he screamed like a banshee last time.
Still only rolling from front to back, but has started to almost get onto his side from his back. He has 'rolled' from back to front with a shove from his sister so don't think we can count that Grin.
He's really wanting to sit up now too so the bumbo is proving useful.
Hope all else are well and find their way over here!

travispickles · 25/05/2011 19:33

\hey all - fuzzy did you go without Evan? Did DH not go? I love Paree - I worked there for a few months years ago.

Fuzzywood · 25/05/2011 19:59

Yep, just me and my mum. DH had the kids for the weekend (with a bit of help from his mum). He was threatening to put them up for adoption by Sunday evening though. Think Evan was a bit confused by it all but I think it was good for him and DH to spend some time together. He's definitely a mummy's boy, he was a bit unsettled when I wasn't here but fine again now.
I love Paris too, especially as the weather was so good.
Have decided it's beer o'clock here, long night last night, Evan now not waking up for a feed in the night but had to replace his dummy a few times and a long day with a nutty 2 year old!

FlubbaBubba · 25/05/2011 21:42

Envy at Evan not waking for a feed during the night - L's gone back to every couple of hours!! Hoping it's a growth-spurt mixed with having been in need of a few extra cuddles while being under the weather, and also hoping I can get him back to at least the four-hourly feeds we were on before. He's still refusing anything other than the boob, so even if DH came up trumps with a Paris trip, I couldn't go :( Hey ho.

Fuzzywood · 25/05/2011 21:56

Oh Bubba sorry to hear that you're still not getting much sleep. Hope it gets a bit better when L is better. You know that now I've mentioned it he won't sleep properly again! I was still up 4 times to put the damn dummy back in. The useful thing about DH being away is that I can just put him in bed next to me to save getting up Smile. The dream feed at about 10.30 seems to be working, glad we perservered with it.
Hope everyone has a good night, DD has finally gone to sleep, she's like the duracel bunny some days, maybe that'll mean I'll get a lie in

FlubbaBubba · 25/05/2011 22:41

Sorry, that last post of mine was very me, me and full of seeming self-pity. Although I could of course do with more sleep and a bit of a break, I'm not nearly as downhearted as that post suggests. Bit more gung ho! :o

Fuzzywood · 26/05/2011 06:12

Grin Bubba, definitely prefer the gung ho approach to a down hearted one. Hope you had a better night. Ev been in with me since I had to get up 5 times in 20 mins after 3am to put his dummy back in. Fingers crossed he goes back to sleep for a while now and DD stays asleep

FlubbaBubba · 26/05/2011 21:37

Well gung ho it is - car is packed for a weekend in our 4-man Confused tent in the thunder and lightning!! :o

LadyBuzz · 27/05/2011 10:25

Good Luck bubba hope it has a freak heatwave for you.

Kali rolled over yesterday Grin front to back - Clever girl Grin and yesterday afternoon when she was having tummy time the little minx was pulling her knees up under her, thankfully she just buried her head in the mat when she did it - I am NOT ready for crawling attempts just yet thank you.

She also protests when she is in her pram now and much prefers to be up and looking about!

RunningKatie · 27/05/2011 13:17

enjoy the camping bubba

Envious of your Paris trip Fuzzy :)

DD has another cold, and it's a bank holiday just like the last one she had . It does explain why she's been an incredibly shouty and grumpy baby, and I now feel a bit guilty for complaining so much. Her screams are just awfully sad.

DP has interview for his job on Tues so we'll know what's happening by next weekend

No sign of any rolling here yet, it'll happen one day when I'm not looking, I just know it!

Hello everyone (waves), mind if I join in again?

Fuzzywood · 28/05/2011 08:35

JJKM I don't know whether being twins makes a difference but certainly with the children in DD's NCT group a few years ago they all developed at very different speeds. One little one was miles behind for a while but you couldn't tell that now they're nearly 3. I think waving arms and legs in the air when on their tummy is normal. Does it look like she's sky diving with just her belly on the ground? Sounds pretty normal to me, may be worth a quick chat with the health visitor or someone if you're worried.

how you doing? How's your little man? Lovely to hear from you Grin

LadyBuzz · 28/05/2011 09:10

jjkm DS2 did exactly the same 'skydiving' pose, My 3 have also been very different in their development and have done things at different ages, DS1 was sat unaided at 16 weeks but never rolled until he could crawl at over 10 months. DS2 didn't sit until late but crawled alot earlier IYSWIM.
My friends DD was born at 29 weeks so not too much later then you and she has come on very slowly only crawling a few days before her 1st birthday but she is perfect in every way!
As fuzzy said do ask a health professional if you are feeling anxious but it sounds like Bridget is just a bit quicker.

Waelcome back flora hows your little man doing?

FloraPost · 28/05/2011 16:48

The little man is doing fantastically thanks; much better than we could have hoped. He is strong, healthy and very communicative, feeds like a beast and currently zonked out from his swimming lesson Smile.

I just needed a bit of time to get over the feeding horrors and get my head together about the Down's. We spent a lot (A LOT) of time reading about it, educating other people (maddening), grappling health professionals and thinking about the future. I had to project myself in RL as being much more together than I was in the early days and tbh I didn't have the energy to do the same on here. These days I can genuinely eyeball anyone and tell them DS is a normal little boy with a rosy future. Because he is.

I totally get the differential development thing. DS hates tummy time so isn't close to propping himself up on his elbows and doesn'tg really lift his head, yet he can sit just fine and pulls himself up to stand. I think he might be one of those who never crawls.

travispickles · 28/05/2011 17:38

Hi all! Well we are just about getting back into a routine of sorts after our escapades on trains/ tubes (I managed 12 trains in the course of a week with her on my front, rucksack on my back and a carseat. Not to be recommended!). Probably worth challenging myself although most unamused by Leed train station's baby-changing/ disabled toilets. Nobody has a key to it. Which is good to know after you have carried a bloody heavy baby asleep in a carseat across, then waited on the cold platform while they go through some rigmarole of pretending to get someone to bring a key when it's clear that nobody knows where it is. Angry
Saskia has also started crying a lot today which I have out down to tiredness but am now wondering if it's teeth? Or hunger?
Glad to hear you are all doing OK. Why has Cupcakes gone MIA? Is she not allowed to communicate with us?

gallicgirl · 29/05/2011 11:22

I think cupcakes is just busy - don't know really but not been on facebook much either.

You're very brave to try all those trains Travis. I'm driving up to see my folks tomorrow which is 200 miles, by myself as DP is going to Cardiff. I have to admit I'm dreading getting stuck in traffic and needing to feed DD. It's the longest trip I'll have made by ourselves - the longest before was 20 miles to Chelmsford Confused

I've bought a big thermos flask so I can pretend to make up bottles properly with hot water but I think it'll be a faff to cool them down in time. I tend to make a few bottles of water in advance and make them up at room temperature which I know is naughty but when it takes an hour to feed and wind the baby and I've then got to add another 40 minutes to boil kettle, let water cool to right temperature, add formula then try to cool to drinking temperature and hope the baby doesn't decide she wants feeding before her allotted time, it would get to the point where I never leave the house!

It sounds like your DS has a very grounded mom to look after him Flora. This society is so obsessed with perfect sometimes that we forget none of us are perfect and we all have our niche in society. There's no reason why your LO won't go on to be a star at school, have a huge circle of friends and his own family eventually.

Fuzzywood · 29/05/2011 13:53

Travis that was very mad brave of you Grin! The good thing about this age though is that they are pretty portable still.
Flora can completely understand that you needed to take some time out. It sounds like your little man is a very lucky boy to have you for his mum. We've just been swimming too, it is great for making them sleep isn't it Smile.
Right DH has taken the kids out for a couple of hours so I'm going for a nap, I'm knackered.
Catch you all later.

Are you in the UK jjkm? I'm astonished that you don't boil the water. I might not mix it up at 70C as recommended but I always use boiled water.

Fuzzywood · 29/05/2011 19:54

Gallic I make bottles up in advance as well so I had a quick look on the Department of Health website (think it was theirs) and whilst they obviously advise not to make them up in advance but if you have to they suggest making them with boiling water, so adding powder at this stage, cooling down quickly then storing in the fridge. I've been doing it this way but did it the way you are with DD with no ill effects. I think the advice is like this so that you kill off anything in the powder with the boiling water. I've no idea how anyone copes with making them up for each feed as I've no idea at night when DS will wake up.
What's everyone planning for the bank holiday tomorrow? I've been talked in to going to Legoland, I'm expecting he'll on earth Grin

gallicgirl · 29/05/2011 21:00

I'm travelling north to spend a few days with my folks before DP and I go on holiday.

I think it's just impossible to make before each feed and if I add the formula and make in advance then I have to keep cool while travelling. Think I'll stick with the normal way of using cooled boiled water then adding formula as I need it.
