Saoirse shingles is caused by the same virus as chicken pox. Once you've had chicken pox the virus lays dormant in your body and can sometimes reactivate causing shingles! Its very very painful. You can get chicken pox from shingles but not shingles from chicken pox!

Cinnamon hope your boys are ok. from experience, night 3 was the worst for ds1 & my friends dd so you might be in for a bad one tonight!
Hope your friends ok. She was a good weight. How early was she??

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2011 11:18

She was 5 weeks early in the end, so not too bad. Still waiting for more news on how she is bananacurry. Ds1 is absolutely fine at the moment and doesn't understand why he can't go to his birthday party, just amazed how spots are appearing before my eyes!!

There is a national greyhound walk in the country park near our house tomorrow which I was planning to go to and ds1 wants to go, was thinking that as it's outside and not in close proximity to anyone we might be ok or am anteing selfish? Dh is at work so can't take nelly if I don't take the boys.

Debs75 · 25/06/2011 12:26

Gosh I lose internet for 2 days and you lot don't shut upGrin

Lucy is now pulling herself to stand up and wants to stand all the time. She will sit on my knee, wriggle around then push herself off until she is on the floor. Then she justs stands and grins at us. She isn't crawling or walking but she is mobile. I reckon she will be a year before she walks, the other girls were 13 and 15 months, ds was 10m!

We have TV on nearly all the time. DP grew always having the TV on and will put it on and search for something to watch. DS likes it on as a background and even if no-one is watching it he will switch it on, something to do with his autism i assume.

Cinnamon DC1&2 got chickenpox when they were almost 2 and 4 and a half. DS got it twice in the end, once as the cycle spread through the village and again as everyone got better. That wasn't helped by school mums bringing their sick kids into the nursery building so they didn't have to stay at home. I don't know how close you have to get to pass it on but in our case this boy was packed into a tiny stuffy room inches from ds.
Oh and they both have scars which are fading as they grow but at the time they weren't really sick with it more uncomfortable.

saoirse86 · 25/06/2011 13:02

Debs DP does the same with the TV, he always has to have it on, and he has ADHD (although not very severely) so maybe that's something to do with it too. In fact, sometimes when he comes in and finds me there wit the TV off, he asks me why I've got it off! Confused

I'm really starting to appreciate how easy Orlaith is. She would happily just play for hours and makes entertainment from anything. My niece however has become so clingy recently and wants to be entertained constantly. If she's left to play on her own or with Orlaith, she's ok for 5 minutes but then does a kind of whingy screamy thing. It's such hard work, and I'm not even dealing with it much! [exhausted just thinking about it emoticon]

JodeyBogeyPicker · 25/06/2011 13:27

Hey ladies. You are all right regarding the comparing thing. I just found it easier to just enjoy him and his own natural development when I wasn't reading about what other babies were up to. I had to keep reminding myself that he was an October baby really. Don't think it heped that when friends and family used to see him they always commented on his size which made me paranoid that I was over feeding him. Then that sparked more paranoia that his weight was stopping him from being more mobile. Anyway, now I'mtotally relaxed about it. I think it was comix who said about babies focusing on one task at a time and that totally makes sense. Harlyn found his voice early on and is a total chatterbox. His new word of the week "eit" which he says after pointing to the light.

cinnamon i hope the chicken pox clears soon. I've never had it either though I had to have a check to see if I was immune when i was pregnant as there was an outbreak at school. Turns out I'm not so no doubt I'll get when Harlyn gets it.

mapletrees · 25/06/2011 20:04

Hey everyone.

So, we tried to clean Louis' teeth tonight for the first time, and would he open his mouth? Thought maybe if daddy did his too it might be encouraging. He thought that was v funny and giggled away - right up until the moment his own toothbrush got back near to his mouth. After about the 20th try we decided to give up until tomorrow little git Grin

I try not to have the tv on too much, Louis watches it a bit when it is on, but I'm a complete geek Radio 4 addict so that's on for a lot of the time when we're in. I have to get out of the house for a few hours every day though, so it's only really early mornings and evenings. I do find the tv quite useful sometimes when Louis is being a difficult sod needs distracting to eat his dinner.

Had a bit of a quiet day today as we were all knackered. We went out for dinner last night with 12 friends and stayed out until gone midnight Shock. And I had 3 glasses of prosecco and 1 of wine Shock Shock I used to be able to take my drink pretty well, but I still haven't really started again so I'm a complete light-weight and felt quite pissed Grin Had a really nice time, the food was delicious and I have a really good group of friends here. My lovely DP really spoiled me with presents including a beautiful necklace and Louis Wink got me a gorgeous framed photo of himself on the swing. We're not really family photos on display people, but this one now has pride of place downstairs Smile

mapletrees · 25/06/2011 20:10

Oh, forgot to say.. cinnamon I hope you get good news about your friend and her baby, and that your DS1 doesn't have a bad night tonight.

newmum That sounds like a fun game you were playing with Grace. I'm amazed she knows so many people by name..

mapletrees · 25/06/2011 20:13

Oh, and saoirse have you seen this. I think he needs to write a sequel for us called "Stay the f**k asleep" Grin

bananacurry · 25/06/2011 21:41

Any news cinnamon? funny but since i've had the boys, I really worry about other mums & babies!

I've had 1 of those "i love my life" days today. My husbands fab (don't tell him), my boys are beautiful & healthy, I love my job & my house, I've got some great friends & nothing could be better! (except winning the lottery!!! Grin)

It would also appear that the mn curse has worked again but in a good way. Olly has eaten everything and more since I mentioned it a couple of days ago. guess he was just off his food a bit!!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2011 21:42

Just heard from my friend she had to have a hysterectomy :(. She just got to ward from intensive care but Maisie isn't with her as she's still too sore to look after her. She said she's beautiful and is well.

bananacurry · 25/06/2011 21:57

gutting about the hysterectomy and not having maisie with her but at least they're both ok! send her love from you invisable friends!

mapletrees · 25/06/2011 22:19

what banana said

cinnamongreyhound · 26/06/2011 11:39

Wow it's hot! Went for our normal walk in the forest so we avoided all the greyhoundy people and therefore no risk of spreading chicken pox and Nelly was panting like mad. Ds1 has sooooooo many spots now, can't believe they are still multiplying!

SeaChelles · 26/06/2011 12:20

Oh my god....I only have one more day off..... Sad Sad Sad Back to work on Tuesday.... Am going to miss Oliver so much it already hurts... Sad And nervous about new company and role.

Anywho....both Lee and I are off tomorrow so we get one more family day before chaos and no money ensues! We are hoping to go to soft play in the morning then pop to the zoo in the PM.

We also have the TV on all the time - in the day though I have it on as background as dont really get chance to watch much. Olly is another who doesn't pay too much attention to it, but loves the jingles and in particular that accident claim advert that Joe Pasquale voices and the Birdseye one with the puppet polar bear. He has also got a thing about the ends of programmes that have black and white credits...little weirdo... Hmm

Sorry about your friend cinammon, but glad the baby is ok.

Olly will have the MMR - never considered him not having it to be honest. I also had mumps when I was about 19 and it was awful....i could only eat lying down on my right side through a straw. My face was so swollen one morning that I woke up screaming, frightened the life out of DP!

Jodey - Harlyn is beautiful - and thats all that matters. Who ever said about them concentrating on one thing at a time was right, Olly has been crawling for nearly two months - and started cruising at the same time, but has only been very vocal for about the last month. We have, Mama, Lala, Baba, Gaga, one Hiya and he gives, hi fives, waves a little and gives lovely kisses. Grin

He also took three steps yesterday to get to me when I got home! Hehehe! [chuffed mummy emoticon!]

9 months today.

newmum001 · 26/06/2011 19:31

Hi all, well I went out last night to dp's aunts cocktail party and my god was I pissed. I swear I haven't been that drunk since I was about 18. I thought it'd be a good idea to play a drinking game and ended up having about 10 shots of sambuca as well as god knows how many sambuca spritzers and ended up being sick over aunts decking then in her front garden then out the taxi window then in my garden, than collapsed my garden wall cause I couldn't walk in a straight line and finally made it to bed. All this before 11.30. Dp let me lie in till 10.30 as I was fit for nothing but inceredibly I woke up with no hangover! I know it doesn't sound like it but I had a really good night (before the exorsist syle vomiting)!

Went to MIL's today and actually reeled back in shock at how bad step FIL looked. He is like a skeleton and is rerely awake at all now. The nurses have said he hasn't got long now and I know it sounds awful but I'm glad. You wouldn't let a rat suffer in the way he's doing! It's heartbreaking! No one should have to die in such a drawn out and painful way. My beloved grandad died of lung cancer and I never ever wanted to see anyone I loved go through that again!

bananacurry · 27/06/2011 09:17

chelle enjoy today! Its horrible having to go back to work and made harder by the new job bit. You will be fine tho, a couple of weeks in you'll not feel so bad. promise!

Newmum it does sound awful but you're absolutely right and if he's asleep most of the time, at least he's settled.

Ollys finally pulled himself up! I went in to him this morning & there he was stood up grinning away!

Looks like we're in for another hot day. Olly wasn't very impressed yeaterday. It was too hot for him.

Cinnamon hows spotty boy??

saoirse86 · 27/06/2011 09:48

newmum glad you had a good night and it's so awful to her about your step FIL. Sad I completely understand what you mean, you'd much rather it could all speed up and save all the pain and heartache in the meantime.

maple I'm glad your birthday went well.

I'm going out with some friends from my post natal group. We're all in the same boat and out of practise, so hopefully when I'm tiddly after 1 drink they won't be too shocked! Blush I tolds DP the other day that I'm going out so he could look after Orlaith on his own (he's only done it once or twice before for an hour and a half while I went to yoga). Straight away he was trying to find out who could come round and help him! Shock Angry

Debs75 · 27/06/2011 10:48

newmum sounds like a great partyGrin though I would of hated to be that sickShock Luckily I just get sleepy when I drink which is why I'm not so bothered about drinking again. I haven't drunk since I got pregnant with dc3 nearly 4 years ago.
Sorry that your stepfil is in so much pain, at least he is sleeping a lot.

We are wilting in the heat here. It is about 75 here and last night Lucy slept in the nuddy with just a sheet it was that hot. The dd2 got in so we dumped the sheet and just sweated back to sleep. Both dd's are in the nuddy again until we have to venture out somewhere

sassy34264 · 27/06/2011 11:04

newmum im dreading going out again cos its been that long since i got drunk. i have no off switch when i get going and normally im fine. i seem to have the ability to not fall over or be sick but ive got a feeling it might not be the case anymore! but tbh even in my drunken state i do manage to turn down sambucas- bloody lethal!!!!! Grin
debs75 you're brave! there would be wee and poo every where if i left them nude. mine have got their summer all in ones on. they're like vests but the legs are just a bit longer.
im sat in a carpark in town centre waiting till they wake up! have to go to the bank cos lost card! only had it about 3 weeks Blush
had a fall this morning as well. chloe has been using the brush outside and left it propped up against the wall. pegging out this morning at 7.30am and got my foot caught-luckily Hmm the wall broke my fall. sort of fell into it on my left side and whilst falling towards the floor slid my arm and hand all down it. hardly a scratch on me but my hand is stinging like mad! stopped b4 i reached floor so bump ok.
saw belly move for 1st time last night 2. its definately a strong kicker!
newmum so sorry for your fil. hope his suffering isnt too prolonged. xxx

newmum001 · 27/06/2011 11:15

Just a quick update as its all a bit hectic, step fil died at 7.15 this morning Sad he was at home where he wanted to be and mil and his daughter were with him. Dp is devastated but doesn't want to go round there yet as the undertakers aren't taking him till this afternoon and dp can't bear the thought of seeing him lying there. Mil seems ok at the moment but we're going to sit woth her tonight when everything has calmed down. We'll put grace in bed and then my sisters going to be at ours.

Grace is eating a candle so I'd better go.

Sassy cleaning is dangerous, don't do anymore!

saoirse86 · 27/06/2011 12:14

newmum I'm sorry for you but it must be a relief as well. I hope you and your family are ok. Sending lots of love. xx

mapletrees · 27/06/2011 13:25

newmum Sorry to hear your sad news, but I'm glad he was at home with his family around him. I'm sure your DP and MIL will be very glad of your support.

cinnamongreyhound · 27/06/2011 16:06

Hope your day was lovely SeaChelles, how many days a week are you working?

Glad you had a lovely time newmum001, despite the throwing up (my most hated thing ever!). So sorry to hear the news about your dp stepdad but it does sound like it was time. It's very sad to lose a parent/partner at such an early stage of life, sending lots of hugs to you.

Hope you are ok sassy34264, falling when pregnant is always scary even if you don't make it all the way to the floor! A friend of mine fell when she was 8 months pregnant and ended up with a broken leg for her delivery :(

Angry for you at your dp too saoirse86, dh is always great with the kids as he did everything with dss until he was almost 2 (other than when he was at the childminder) as his mum wanted nothing to do with him once she stopped bf at 3 weeks.

I have a 0.5TOG grobag for the summer as Luke just won't sleep without one on Debs75. There was a lady at my antenatal yoga who brought he baby into the class and she said she never thought she'd have a newborn sleeping in just a nappy but it was so warm she worried about doing anything else.

Luke is drinking so much water, I'm glad he knows to drink when it's warm as ds1 has always been so rubbish at it. He is coping so well with the heat, doesn't seem to bother him at all, ds1 is not doing as well as he's more like me I think. He doesn't have anymore spots today, thanks for asking bananacurry but is still a bit whingey when the calpol wears off so I'm sticking with 4 hourly doses!

After my late night feed on Friday evening with Luke I have been quite sore when feeding on my left side. After his bedtime feed last night I had a closer examination and I have a tiny little hole in the skin on my areola and that is exactly where the pain is. Been putting nipple cream on it but not sure of the cause, hopefully it will heal in a few days and I won't have to look into it any further :(

SeaChelles · 27/06/2011 19:11

Newmum - sorry to hear your news. Sending big hugs.

Cinammon - we had a lovely day thanks. It was boiling hot! We went to the shops and got some BBQ stuff for tea first thing, then went to the soft play to let Olly (and DP!Wink) burn off some energy, then we filled up the paddling pool in the back garden when we got home and all three of us played in it for an hour! Then lunch and naps followed by a lovely chilled afternoon.

I am going back three full days (Tues, Weds and Thurs) and then 6 hours from home on a Friday. I know I may not get much done with Olly about but I can catch up when DP gets home or on the Thursday evening when he has gone to bed.Very sad to be a responsible adult again for tomorrow instead of a fun mummy... Sad Also very Angry that my car insurance has not gone back down not that am employed again! Robbing bastards.....

Cinammon - you may know - we get two weeks at 50% price with the childminder a year - is this generally two weeks as in 10 days or two weeks as in 6 days (i.e. the time that he would be with them in the two week period)? I have asked DP to ask when he drops him off in the morning but just in case you are floating about.
