Well, 5.45 this morning is an improvement I guess!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/06/2011 06:34

We have 6.30 so not as good as yesterday but I can't complain!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/06/2011 08:14

Oh no.... Looks like my plans for the weekend are out of the window! Ds1 has chicken pox, 8 more spots this morning and is scratching them. He is fine in himself and I'm sure I won't be popular not sending him to school especially as I will be taking my minded little boy :(

FriggFRIGG · 24/06/2011 08:21

oh no cinnamon! poor ds1Sad dd's never had them,id be panicking i reckon!!!
porridge bath is good for the itching i hear!!

beaditAli · 24/06/2011 09:06

Awww poor lil minicinnamon hope he and you cope ok with it and it's soon cleared up!
I think the MN curse may have disappeared! No 3am get up at all! 7.30pm-7am even with his helmet back on after a weeks break from it Grin

jodey Sad that you felt like avoiding the thread for a while. I do often think when i'm posting that it sounds as though I'm comparing but really i'm not. I just find it fascinating and really interesting how different lo's are so am intrigued at what everyone elses cuties are up to rather than worried. Not impressed by no kissing yet tho!!! Envy That can be my task for the day: Teach Jack to kiss! Daisy will be pleased! Wink

In case it might help: Jack started really kicking off 2 weeks ago when his nappy was being changed and insisted on being on his tummy...... i've found a trick that works! A greeting card still in its cellophane keeps him still for more than long enough! I definitely recommend it! Grin

Lots of love to jessemy if you're there xx

Oh no Cinnamon sorry your plans are ruined! Can we come and play tho?? I'd like Olly to get it cos Ds1 had it at exactly this age and coped really well. He hasn't really got any scars cos he couldn't scratch.

Newmum I love that your posts come up twice! Just incase we didn't get it the 1st time Wink

Olly seems to be a bit in the middle of the other babies. No walking, cruising or pulling up but very fast crawling. Copies some sounds and I'm sure he said gone the other day when he'd finished his breakfast (copied me saying it). He doesn't give open mouth kisses, just headbutts repeatedly if you ask for a kiss which is fine if you know to expect it! Grin

We've got him a pop up tent and tunnel for his birthday. Pressies are hard here cos we've got all ds1s old toys & olly actually prefers playing with ds1s current toys than his own!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/06/2011 09:33

I was also going to say I was :( you felt like that JodeyBogeyPicker, such a shame we can't always enjoy our babies for what they are and not worry about every little thing! So far Luke has done EVERYTHING before ds1 did so it's all different and worrying, plus he doesn't eat like ds1 did either.

You are welcome anytime bananacurry and anyone else who wants chicken pox or just to visit. Although my mum was asking the other day if my two had been offered the vaccine Hmm. 3 of my minded children haven't had it so their parents are very pleased! Don't know if they get more poorly the more spots come out? Ds1 is absolutely fine at the moment so fingers crossed we can still go out tonight even we can't do anything else.

newmum001 · 24/06/2011 09:44

Beadit I find a dvd case works well for keeping grace still and the other day she played with a belt for nearly an hour while I cleaned! I've spent a bloody fortune on toys and she prefers belts and dvd cases!

Banana I can't figure out why they're posting twice, it must be something to do with my phone but I'm too lazy to turn the laptop on Grin

Cinnamon I'm glad your ds1 isn't too poorly! I remember me and my sister having it when we were about 6 and we were fine. Nothing more than a bit itchy but my brother was about 9 when he got it and he was very poorly, he ended up delirious with it and my mum had to get the emergency doctor out!

Grace wakes at 6 most days, some days 5.30 but never 7am unfortunately. Gonna have a lie in on sunday though as dp's aunty is having a cocktail party on saturday night so I will be very drunk!

Week 1 of my diet is nearly over and I'm feeling quite proud of myself. I will lose this weight!

newmum001 · 24/06/2011 09:51

Oooh that only posted once!

Jodey it is easy to compare and I've also worried about grace not crawling or being able to eat lumps etc but she'll do it all in our own time! We've got plenty of time to be competetive with other mums as they're growing up, my daughter will be mary in the first nativity and god help anyone who tries to tell me she won't Grin as for his weight he is beautifully in proportion and it's great that he's got a good appetite. I think grace is one of the biggest babies but she only eats what she wants so she's obviously just a naturally big baby.

saoirse86 · 24/06/2011 10:02

Oh newmum don't mention diets! I've still got a spare stone and I'd like to get rid of some of it but for some reason eating chocolate whilst watching this morning doesn't seem to be working. Confused

Jodey I'm sorry you didn't want to come on for a while. I think we all feel a bit Envy and Sad at what ours and others LO's are/aren't doing. I get seriously jealous and upset sometimes with how much Orlaith wakes still. It actually amazes me how she moves about so much in the day, has 2 little naps but then still wakes 2-6 times in the night.

Orlaith's suddenly started focussing on understanding words this week. What she's learnt this week is to give (big opened mouth, possibly a bit of tongues) kisses when you say "give mummy a kiss", she comes (if she's got nothing better to do) when I say "come on" or "this way", she knows "what's this" means I've got something she might want, she knows "who's this" means someone's here, and she know who mummy, daddy, portia, auntie aswalia, cousin imara, nanny, grandad and grandma are! Shock What a busy week! Wink

Beadit I've made a mental note of that thumbprint tree for Orlaith's birthday party. I won't be doing it though, I'll get DP to do it. He did fine art at university and likes an excuse to break out the canvases! Grin

Orlaith 9 months today

saoirse86 · 24/06/2011 10:03

newmum I think that about Orlaith's weight. She's pretty big and not tall but doesn't have much of an appetite and never has so it must just be her.

sassy34264 · 24/06/2011 11:39

cinnamon sorry to hear your ds has chicken pox. chloe got it young too. she still has 2 marks on her face from it.
i think its good that the babies are so different in what stages they are at cos it reassures you that there is no right time, they all have their own time scale. both mine can walk (although not indefinatley, they fall eventually) and can clap hands, but neither are talking or waving. i know chloe could talk at this age but she didnt walk until she was 12months. isobel has put a brick on top of another brick today though. and jacob is brillant at turning pages in his books. i think its all noticeable at the minute cos they're all doing a few new things a day\week etc. in a bit they'll be doing things so much that we wont even be able to keep up!

sassy34264 · 24/06/2011 11:50

jodey all this comparison talk has reminded me of my brother, i mentioned in a previous post about him having sppech therapy and he never shuts up! but also he didnt walk until he was 18months old. and he was the fastest thing on legs throughout primary and high school. i bumped into a lad on a night out a few years ago who was in my brothers class and he asked about him. he also said how he remembered how fast he was. said he could have give us a head start wearing hob nail boots and he still would have won. so i think how babies develop has little baring on how they turn out unless they have SN.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/06/2011 11:58

Books is another difference between my two, ds1 loves being read to and turn pages very early. I could give him library books and I knew he'd never damage them but Luke has a very short attention to books and if it's paper rather than the card ones he will try to rip the page or eat it!!

sassy34264 · 24/06/2011 12:09

ha cinnamon isobel is the same. she can bloody eat the cardboard ones! she is terrible, she'll eat magazines, newspapers, fluff, bits of hair, crumbs but you try and give her a new food and she opens her mouth the tiniest amount possible as if to say i'll try it but if i dont like it you've got no chance!

MammyG · 24/06/2011 14:08

Hellew
Cinnamon Hope your wee man is better soon
Saoirse Birthday was really a non event as just me and the kids. Will do something later on
Think it was cinnamon that asked about the second course of antibiotics. She doesnt have a temperature or anything so I think its a case of baby bronchitis. She is prone to being drooly etc and the buds of her teeth are just ready to pop so I think the mucous is just gone to her upper chest rather than out. Hopefully when these teeth show it will ease up.

I know we are not to worry bout comparisons and Phoebe is one of the later in sept babies but she isnt doing anything the rest of yours are. She can sit a bit more independently but not for long, she isnt showing any signs of crawling or anything. Will give it another few weeks before panicing!!
Its miserable here today just torrential - lovely for june!!

mapletrees · 24/06/2011 14:31

cinnamon I hope your DS1 keeps feeling ok with the chicken pox. If he does it'll be good to have got it over with. Me and my sister never had it as children, and then she got it when she was 21 and was horribly ill for a couple of weeks. I couldn't even go and look after her in case I caught it Sad. I think I'm going to be a bit useless when Louis gets anything more than a cold. The only proper illness I had as a child was mumps (woke up one night at 2am in such pain I sat up and screamed at the top of my lungs, gave my parents quite a fright Grin) so I don't really know what to expect with chickpox etc..

Sorry to hear you were worrying about Harlyn's development after reading stuff on here jodey. Even though there has been research that found the age at which babies start doing things doesn't mean much later on (unless they have SN as sassy said), and things are supposed to even out by the time they start school, I'm still sometimes am a bit Sad/Envy when I read about other babies on here. Louis isn't properly mobile yet and he only seems to understand one word (the cat's name Grin) and I'm not even sure about that. I think it's easy to focus on the things they can't do, especially if they are better at the less obvious things. He did say "hello" really clearly the other day though (but just copying my friend, I'm pretty sure he hasn't a clue what it means).

sassy what you said about isobel sounds v familiar. There are days when Louis will put everything in his mouth apart from food!

bananacurry · 24/06/2011 19:00

Cinnamon has your friend had her baby??

MammyG very slow reply to your comment about antibiotics, Ds1 was given them twice for his chest. they didn't work. It took a few teeth later for me to link that everytime he was getting a tooth he showed symptoms of a chest infection but it was just the amount of secretions that he was producing & struggling to clear. Ollys very similar. They sound like 50 a day smokers. He hasn't had any for anything since & I will now only accept antibiotics if they are showing actual signs of illness, temp etc.

Question about tvs! I don't have the tele on unless ds1 is watching it. I try to limit the amount he has but its probably a couple of hours a day depending on what we're doing. When its on, he's glued to it. Friends of mine have it on all day as "background" noise & theirs los don't watch it as intently as Ds1. Do you think if its on all the time they actually watch it less than if you restrict it?

cinnamongreyhound · 24/06/2011 23:12

She had her today, maise Rose and she was 5lb 11. The text I got said mum had to have an operation after delivery but is recovering well, so don't know if that was placenta removal (she had placenta accreta) or a hysterectomy.

Ds1 didn't watch tv at all until 2 and then a very limited amount but if it's on he's glued, dss had it on all the time as a small child and will play along side it. Having said that kids tv drives me mad and I actually want to watch something else myself and with a almost 10 year old they have to learn to share imo. Dh has it on all the time when home but I only put it on if someone is sleeping (not kids tv) or if someone wants to watch something specific. Plus it's good to know there is something you can put and your child will not move for x amount of time. Also ime children who watch a lot of tv be it intently or not lose a lot of imagination and are not as able to stimulate themselves.

Slight moan, my mum and stepdad babysat while we went out with my neighbours (mum next door stepdad here). When we got back Luke has been crying and he starts telling me how I should have checked the boys as soon as I get in and how he's restless because of his cough (which we have all had for a week), and how he needs changing as hes done a poo Hmm. Sorry for the language but the fucking cheek of the man!!!! I go out once in a blue moon, my boys are everything to me and he, a man with no children of his own and zero experience of babys tries to tell me how to care for my son grrrrr. Plus dh went straight to bed and has left me alone with very teary baby Angry, he has to be at work at 5 am so maybe not so Angry.

Dixiebell · 25/06/2011 06:08

Hope Luke managed to go down okay, cinnamon, and he's not feeling too poorly.

On the tv thing, with absolutely no experience on this Wink, I think my preference would be short periods of focused attention rather than being used to having it on all the time. we tend to have the radio on a lot actually during the day (DH works in radio!) so I guess that is our background noise.

Arlo up at 5.45 again. I'm starting to think maybe he's always done this but has only just worked out how to shout! As he just lies there shouting until we finally come and get him. Today we have SIL staying in the room next door so I couldn't ignore the shouting for as long as I usually do! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2011 07:04

And on the subject of chicken pox mapletrees, dh had it when dss got it at 2 so he was 37 and didn't get it too badly. One of my mums has never had it and her ds has and she looked after him but never caught it.

Luke went back to bed just after 12 and slept until 20mins ago, no spots on the bits I can see!!!

sassy34264 · 25/06/2011 07:40

ive never had chicken pox and never caught it when chloe got it. her dad did tbough, its called shingles when adults get it isnt it? supposed to be very painful. couldnt happen to a nicer guy!
im a have the tv on in the background person. not childrens programmes the majority of the time though. i watch breakfast every morning. mine tend to ignore it mostly. they will stop whatever they are doing though for any jingles. they both dance! (just bending knees over and over) im a big fan of dancing (try and get me off a dance floor on a night out) Grin so im always dancing to music with them. plus i have to get in quick before dp teaches them his no rhythm dancing! i cant call him too much though as i am totally tone deaf! but babies love me singing-poor buggers.

newmum001 · 25/06/2011 09:39

I have the telly on all day and grace doesn't bother about it. Although she absolutely loves the meerkat advert where the little meerkats are singing and giggles her head off. If she's in her walker in the kitchen she races to the front room if she hears it. There's a couple of other adverts she likes too but I think it's just the music she likes!

She was in her walker yesterday and dp was in the kitchen with her and said go and find mummy and she came charging in the front room to see me. Then he did the same thing with go find grandma then aunty jenny and she got the right person everytime and was so excited it was lovely!

Cinnamon home you had a nice night out, what a shame it didn't end so well! I'd have told him to fuck off and if luke needed his nappy changing then he should have done it and he might not have got so upset! As for dh going straight to bed, I'd have been pissed off a bit too. Yes he is up early for work but you also work. Being fair with sleep is really the only thing me and dp argue about as I think he gets way more than me and It annoys me, yet saturday comes round and I have the option of a lie in and I don't want it. Can't win!

saoirse86 · 25/06/2011 10:19

I have the TV on a lot too (although I do keep thinking I must stop this) but Orlaith doesn't pay much attention unless I actually put CBeebies on! She loves that meerkat advert too newmum! DP plays the guitar and she loves it (don't tell him I sometimes let her strum it when he's out! Hmm).

cinnamon I'd be seriously annoyed too to get back to that. I might have moaned mentioned before that my IL's often leave Orlaith with a dirty nappy, and DP pretends he can't smell it!
I hope your freind and her baby are ok. Smile

My dad had shingles in his 20's and he has a weird twitch from it now in the side of his belly. I don't really notice it anymore but it must look strange. Grin
