Hello! It's me. I thought I'd start a thread which is VERY cheeky for someone who's not been around for AGES! Grin

Purpleprickles · 29/08/2011 23:35

Sorry HP glad to hear your Dad is ok Smile

Ekka · 30/08/2011 08:53

Pp - totally normal in our household except we have cut lips a lot as ds doesn't ever put out his hands to save himself so lands on his face. And I'm not very good at dealing with blood and facial injuries Blush

He is also good at walking into doors and falling off things and banging his head on the floor - several times a day

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/08/2011 11:10

a fair bit of falling over is normal, but if you are really worried, and know that his shoes are def the right fit, then get his ears checked, as ear problems will affect balance. And his eyes too - an astigmatism in particular can affect balance I believe.

Thanks all. Pistachio I cringe too, I think I'm walking around with my shoulders permanently hunched anticipating the fall! And Ekka poor ds falling on his face Sad It sounds like he J normal then Grin Although it's interesting you mentioned astigmatism CSWS as I have one and both dh and I cannot see without glasses/lenses so I'm fully expecting J to need them too at some point. At the moment though his vision appears to be fine but I'll keep an eye on it (ha ha). I think he probably just has my clumsy genes with dodgy ankles thrown in.

I went to visit my friend today and her four week old dd, she was gorgeous and so small I think I'm a bit broody.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/08/2011 20:53

Oh go on, have another PP - you know you want to! Grin
Has he had the extra eye tests due to family history? Ds1 has and it turns out that he has a severe astigmatism. He is being seen regularly at the hospital and is living on borrowed time re needing glasses (they were certain he would have them by the time he was 2, but there has been a slight improvement since). We would have had absolutely no idea if he hadn't had the tests due to dh's bad eyes, as there's no outward sign of the problem at all.

Purpleprickles · 30/08/2011 21:01

CSWS I am coming round to the idea Grin Gah! No he hasn't had any eye tests. Did you organise ds' because of your dh's eyes independently or was it the suggestion of your health visitor? Fecking health visitors rubbish here, I am still waiting for ds 2yr check Hmm

HavePatience · 30/08/2011 21:07

PP we have a friend whose ds falls loads and sees an OT now and is doing really well. But he fell a LOT and was getting really hurt :(
Q falls a fair bit but not as much as others because he's quite careful. He is such a baby when he gets hurt. It's getting ridiculous. I'm hoping preschool will help.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/08/2011 23:37

Referral by hv PP. I think they do it here if one of the parents had bad eyes as a child, rather than developing poor eyesight as an adult. We only had D's 2 year (or whatever they call it now - keeps changing) check last week.

Ekka · 31/08/2011 08:09

You get a 2 year check?!?!?! M last saw the hv properly at his 6 week check and the only other times he has seen them was at weigh-ins. Not expecting much more this time as there's apparently been a bit of a baby boom here recently so the hv are overstretched.

Good luck with the school run pistachio!

pepperrabbit · 31/08/2011 09:18

ekka - I agree! DD was last weighed at about 3 months and hasn't been seen since. I think DS1 (now 7) actually had a 7 month check up, but even that had finished by the time DS2 arrived. Do you have Tammy or Maggie - or do you not even get a named HV now?
On a local note I wonder if the huge new housing developments and no additional infrastructure could have contributed.

Oh yes, you need to get them onto straws nice and early Grin
Glad the school run was a success - look on it as a major triumph and achievement of the day. doesn't matter if you achieve nothing else today now Smile - and you have one less child to deal with, (though in our house the biggest one is the easiest).

ekka - am i right in thinking that you got your guys a radio flyer wagon at some point? Do they use it much? Am thinking that santa might get one for my lot this Christmas, but am having huge debate with myself about whether I want to pay c£170 for the deeper one with all terrain wheels, or £64 (because I can get £20 off for the next few days) for the 'standard' version.

Purpleprickles · 31/08/2011 22:50

No sign of a HV here either since ds was a week old. They were supposed to come and do my pnd check but decided to assess me over the phone instead Hmm I doubt J will have a two year check or maybe he will get it at 3?

CSWS both dh and I had glasses as teenagers so maybe ds will be the same. I've checked with my local optician and they will do any eye test from 3yrs old so I will get one sorted out.
Just had to be nosey and a radio flyer looks very cool :)

Pepper saw your fb pics, think you need a medal for manouvring children round that pile of sand. I'm sure they are tempted to dive in, ds would be out there with a spade. It looks like a good space though, in the end it will be worth the pain. Am sending you virtual Wine for the interim period!

Pistachio yay to being early for school. MIL told me that when she had SIL she arranged with dh's school for him to arrive a little later for the first few weeks because she just couldn't get him there on time Grin

HP are you packed?

Took ds to meet up with one of his nursery "best friends" today. I nearly cried when we arrived, he shouted her name, ran up to her and gave her the biggest hug. It was like something out of a film Grin They had a great time and he has chatted non-stop about her since we got back so hopefully this is a sign that settling back into Nursery next week will be ok. Bah two more days to go Sad

KSal · 01/09/2011 09:19

I'm really surprised that people get so few HV checks. we get a development check at 8 months (which Orin is getting at a year) and another at 2 years (which they have renamed the 2 yr 8 months check Hmm) and Emma has just had that. I assumed that they were standard for picking up things like hearing, vision, coordination issues.

got a couple of days off.... house could do with a tidy!

Coconutfeet · 01/09/2011 09:56

Hello, just got back from our trip to France. Had a great time and glorious weather mostly which was a very welcome surprise. S absolutely loved the freedom of camping and having so many other children to play with. Just getting sorted for returning to work and finishing off my first essay which is due in tomorrow.

I haven't read back very far but did see you talking about eye tests. I'd been wondering about that. I've got really bad vision and had glasses from the age of about 8. We haven't had a hv check for ages but I might ask the gp for some advice.

HP - great news about the house. Do you move tomorrow?

Hello everyone else!

HavePatience · 01/09/2011 19:05

Moving tomorrow. I'd love Q to have a check. None offered. Settling in session 1 at preschool a success. I was stunned when Q picked his name out of a sea of names on the table. I mean, I know he recognises it but didnt think he would then and there for some reason

pepperrabbit · 01/09/2011 22:40

Good luck tomorrow, HP, will you be packing till the early hours or are you all sorted??

HavePatience · 02/09/2011 01:33

All sorted nowWink
Dh will bring it all down to garden while I'm with Q at preschool settling in session. Then they will be packing the van when we return!
I've bought biscuits and fizzy drinks to keep the man with a van and dh happy and full (we usually never have fizzy drinks so seems a treat but I'm sure van man would prefer tea - but no kettle!)

Sleeeeepy now

SO glad that's over. We waited for confirmation of money received for our purhase for ages. Our buyer's money came through at 12.45 and ours wasn't confirmed by our vendor's solicitor until 2.45 Hmm my solicitor kept ringing and they kept telling her that the lady was in a meeting and no one else could check the accounts.... Hmmmm... Anyway, we only budgeted for 3 hours max for man with a van so rapidly unloaded everything into the front garden. He helped bring refrigerator and sofa and chest of drawers inside and it was exactly 3.30. Phew! It meant dh and I spent the rest of the day lugging boxes and items inside, but at least we are in!
Q is so proud of his new room and his pirates left him a "treasure" to welcome him. (that red elc guitar that he's been wanting for ages- got off eBay).
It's not a big house by any means but proper space opposed to our 1 bed maisonette!! Feels all grown up Grin

It was so Sad to leave that place, though. As it is hard with any change.

HavePatience · 02/09/2011 23:16

Oh and the estate agent we bought from delivered flowers, wine and a card signed by all members of their team to us just hours after completion. Is that normal? I was stunned. Our previous estate agent did nothing of the sort.

pepperrabbit · 03/09/2011 10:03

So glad it went well HP. Did Q sleep well in his new room?
I'm off of to a "Pre Wedding Lunch" in the big smoke today. I'm pretty sure they were called a "hen do" when i got married, but it seems to be in a smart restaurant . When I asked hen's sister about the dress code she said "I'm wearing my wrap dress, as is X, X and X" Hmm
I do not, and never have, possessed any kind of "day" dress so am having a small wardrobe crisis. Normal hen attire/girls lunch would be smart jeans, sparkly top etc.
Once again I shall look like country bumpkin compared to my friends other circle. Hen works for City solicitors and has been leading a wine bar/cocktail lifestyle since I started having kids. Some of her friends reflect this!
Builders here today - they asked specially if they could work an extra day. So I have been up for ages already.
