Hello! It's me. I thought I'd start a thread which is VERY cheeky for someone who's not been around for AGES! Grin

Awww bless little B Smile. I'm glad he's enjoyed it. Have fun keeping him stimulated over the summer Grin

I was wondering..... Could that vomit with the clear fluid and chunks of what looked like curdled milk be from the lactulose?

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/07/2011 17:58

vomit like that sounds like perfectly normal vomit when there isn't a lot of undigested food sitting in the stomach.

HavePatience · 23/07/2011 18:50

Thanks that makes sense as it was morning. I'll not stop the lactulose, then.

Thanks to all for listening to my poo and vomit detailed posts Grin Blush

Pistachio your new photos are lovely Smile

Purpleprickles · 24/07/2011 18:28

Made it to the hols Smile I was very emotional saying goodbye to my Nursery children, some of them have been with us for 5 terms. It's such a lovely feeling though to be on holidays and spend the whole time with J. Having said that he has had a monster tantrum today and at one point didn't want me in the same room as him because he "didn't like my face. It was naughty"SadGrin So I am bracing myself for his usual reaction to change and a rocky first week. We have had a good weekend overall though, a lovely trip to Howletts Zoo yesterday and then some holiday shopping today.

Star hope Q is better now?

I was supposed to be meeting my friend next week but her ds has hand foot and mouth. I hate being one of those urgh germs parents but we go away on 6th Aug so don't want J to be ill then. I can't find any advice on the web about keeping away from it, in fact the HPA don't even recommend exclusion from Nursery with it which seems strange as I thought it was one of the most contagious childhood illnesses. Our Nursery recommends 5 days out but god knows where we got that advice from now Blush So maybe it's not as contagious as I thought? When I said to my friend I'd prob stay away she sounded a bit surprised. Am I being over cautious, what would you guys do?

100% I don't know who you are either, sorry Blush Did I know you? I was previously RachieW.

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/07/2011 21:02

I'm not particularly cautious re germs and stuff, but I'd tend to stay away for hand foot and mouth.
In fact just found this on patient.co.uk

Is hand, foot and mouth disease infectious?

Yes. The incubation period is 3-5 days. This means it takes 3-5 days to develop symptoms after being infected from another person. Most cases are passed on by coughing and sneezing which transmits the virus into the air. Sometimes small outbreaks occur in nurseries and schools. It is mainly infectious until the spots and mouth ulcers have gone. Therefore, children should be kept off school until the symptoms ease, all blisters have dried, and they are feeling better. There is no need to wait for the last blister to disappear to go back to school or nursery, providing the child is well.

and from the nhs site

Hand, foot and mouth disease is very contagious. The best way to avoid catching and spreading it is to avoid close contact with people who have the disease and to practise good hygiene.

So I am surprised that your friend was surprised tbh.

Can I ask how your October babies play with others? Is it still somewhat parallel play?
Q still parallel plays quite a bit. He definitely interacts more, but not as much as he does with dh and I...
He talks to his toys sometimes, too. We were all 3 of us painting yesterday and he said "look mommy. Look what I painted! (turns around to safari animals all set up on mat) .. Look manimals! Look what I did! Look daddy!" then he set it to dry and started a new one.
He has a great imagination.... Dh invents these "trolls" who are responsible for allsorts - heating up the car when we've been out too long, eating the last ice cream, they do nice things as well. Q will say "look! A green and purple troll! Right there!" .... Is he really weird? We've embraced it so far, but I'm increasingly anxious about preschool starting in September and don't want him to be an odd duck Blush

HavePatience · 24/07/2011 21:11

Nice to see you, PP! Smile congrats on making it to summer holidays!
Q isn't generally too difficult but lately he will push to the furthest boundary possible. It's like he does things just to see what we will do and if we will follow through with what we say we will do. I have to be SO careful what I say. I had to leave a play area the other day because I threatened it. I should have threatened a time out because it was raining in the outside bit. Are yours all pushing boundaries?

Purpleprickles · 24/07/2011 21:36

Thanks CSWS for finding all that info. I'm staying away then as ds is bound to get it the day before we go on hols.

HP with my work head on I would say that Q sounds right on track and you shouldn't worry at all. Everything you write about him reminds me so much of J who also does a lot of imaginary play. When the children start at my Nursery they are just three or slightly over and all parallel play, playing together comes around 4yrs.

Purpleprickles · 24/07/2011 21:38

Oh and J loves to push a boundary. Last night he was having a mini tantrum in bed so I said 'does my face look happy?' to which he would normally say no and get the message but instead he said and 'mine doesn't either'!Grin

HavePatience · 24/07/2011 21:45

Thanks, PP. As I read that, I thought to myself, oh yeah. I know this. Parallel play is still normal.... But I have so much difficulty applying what I know about child development to my own child sometimes Blush . It is so good that you can step back and see it clearly. Thank you!!

Q tonight- dh took a pot off of the stove. Q was nearby and dh said "do not touch that, Q" (as Q reached for it - he does know better, btw). But then Q looked straight at dh and reached right up there and put his hand on the hot stove Sad Hmm . Of course we whisked it right off ASAP and ran his fingers under water... But it's like he was saying to dh "oh yeah? And what if I do touch it? What are you going to do about it?" he didn't say this but it seems that way!
In the end, we decided his burned fingers was consequence enough. Sad

HavePatience · 24/07/2011 21:49

Grin at 'mine doesn't either'!
Oh, i thought this was funny. A couple of days ago:
Q; I want that
Dh: you need to ask nicely
Q: please
Dh: you need to say "may I have that please"
Q:may I have that
Dh: what else?
Q: please
Dh: may I have that please. Say it all the way through
Q: all the way through.
Grin

Purpleprickles · 25/07/2011 17:22

HP Grin our boys sound very similar. J is very pedantic, for example if I ask him to take his shoes off and he has sandals on he'll say "no mummy sandals"!Grin

Been in to work today to finish clearing out for the summer. Chucked a load of old paperwork away which was very satisfying. J had a great time playing with all the toys and making more mess. I'm now relaxing in the garden while he plays with a bowl of water, old paintbrushes and a watering can. Just found a very tasty looking bread recipe in Saturdays Guardian which I might make. I love this feeling of having time to do things, I'll probably never do it all but the thought is nice.

Coconutfeet · 25/07/2011 21:00

Hello.

I haven't read back very far but I hope everyone's OK.

HP I felt sure I would come back on here and you would have moved. I see that you're still waiting to exchange. What a pita.

Sorry I've not been around for ages. Been bogged down with work and stuff. PP I was in school today too. Threw out 3 bin liners of stuff from my cupboard. All very cathartic.

I'm trying to summon up the energy to start potty training, but keep coming up with excuses not to do it.

I've started my MA study too. Beginning to wonder whether I've bitten off more than I can chew...

pepperrabbit · 25/07/2011 22:21

CF, Hello! We started potty training today. Wasn't in my plan at all as the builders rip out the downstairs loo next week Hmm. DD spotted a pair of peppa pig pants today and decided she wanted to wear them, after weeks of defiance and tears at the merest suggestion - i wasn'r bothered at all just bored of nappies.
Wasn't really helped by both boys finding things like "bottom" hilarious
So in the end I put everyone on a reward system. Their enthusiasm was unbounded once they realised every "sit on the potty for more than 3 nano-seconds" or (just one) wee got them a jelly baby Grin
All 3 were hyper with sugar by lunchtime....
Do you know the cheesy Chris de Burgh song, something like Priscilla the Stripper (?) "to tremendous applause, she took off her drawers"
Twas like that in our back garden today Grin Grin
She did ok though, so we'll persist tomorrow.

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/07/2011 22:28

Patricia pepper.

Thanks for coming back cf. We (well certainly I Grin) missed you.
Potty training will start in 3 weeks or so here I think, once we're back from holiday, dh is still off work, and dd is on an activity thing.

pepperrabbit · 25/07/2011 22:35

Doh! didn't think priscilla sounded quite right Grin thanks CSWS.

HavePatience · 25/07/2011 23:01

Hi cf Smile now PP and cf have joined the lovely bliss that is a holiday from teaching Grin. Isn't it amazing?? Time to get stuff sorted at home and time with DS. I'm still loving every minute.

Best of luck with the PT. Q is all good except for his poo troubles but that's another story.

Q has had a fever all day Sad such a beautiful day and his nose is running, eyes all red and high temp. Really floppy. He'd be happily playing one minute then curled up on our laps the next.he fell asleep in my arms during story time tonight (unheard of).

Ekka · 26/07/2011 06:22

Glad to hear others are pt too. Ds can do wees in the potty no problems, but appears totally unable to cope with poos so I'm spending a lot of time cleaning up messy pants - yuk.....

Cf and Pp - enjoy the school holidays! I remember the first day of the holidays feeling so well - bliss.... Tho they never ever seemed long enough!!!

Csws - have a lovely holiday. Where are you going?

Still waiting for this baby - tho as its not due for a couple of weeks I'm not sure why I feel so impatient. Birth pool has arrived but we tried to fill it last night and there seems to be a leak in one of the connections so the lady who supplies them is coming round this morning to take a look....

HavePatience · 26/07/2011 08:21

Oh exciting, Ekka! A new baby soon Smile

I'm feeling very frustrated tonight as I've tried to make cake pops and it was harder than the book makes it appear to be. I also need to go to America to buy supplies as I can't find what I need in the UK. [Stamps feet and flounces off like a 5yr old]

Purpleprickles · 26/07/2011 23:35

[Flounces back in after cup of tea]

Good luck with the birth Ekka- very exciting!

HP hope Q is better today?

Ekka · 27/07/2011 05:36

Funnily enough pistachio we've tried water for both kids so far though with dd I borrowed an inflatable pool which must have had a slow puncture as it gradually sagged so I didn't dare lean on the edge in case it gave way and I got swept out onto our dining room floor on a wave of water!!! Needless to say I didn't give birth to her in the pool!!

Ds was born in the pool tho - we rented the same pool we have this time. It's all set up now, no more leaks so we're good to go whenever this baby is ready... You are right water makes it much easier, and I felt more secure and private in the pool last time.

Star, I hope Q is feeling better now?
