Hello! It's me. I thought I'd start a thread which is VERY cheeky for someone who's not been around for AGES! Grin

Thanks, Cake. That makes sense. Trying to increase fluids. Everyone keeps saying add some juice but I've tried and he will drink just as much water with juice as he will just water. So it's definitely not about him not liking water. He drinks it as happily as any other drink. He just doesn't drink enough (I think...)

CakeandRoses · 10/06/2011 13:26

would he drink more if he had water near him all the time in a 'cool' bottle/cup? F has a steel gruffalo bottle, the ones shaped like sports bottles and he loves it.

HavePatience · 10/06/2011 22:11

He does have a cool water bottle that he chose from the shop (a bright pink one, which I find hideous, but he adores). He will sip at it but not very much. From this morning at every snack and meal we've filled up his water a bit more and said he can't get down to play until he's finished his drink. He responded well to this. I also told him that if he had more to drink, then maybe his poos won't hurt so much.

Then drank 3 tommee tippee cups (the small ones with two handles) full of water at bedtime Shock. I've definitely put a pull up on tonight, although he was up to wee several times before completely settling. We'll see if it continues!

We dropped something we bought at the shop on the way home and didn't notice until we were at the car. We looked back, but wasn't anywhere :( . Q said "it's ok, the birds will eat it" (something he says if he drops a bit of rice cake or whatever he's eating on the ground accidentally).... then thought for a few minutes...."but pigeons don't have hands..... hands to open the wrapper... they won't eat it if they don't have hands to open it".

I just love the way kids this age think! Especially as it's always changing and surprising you! :) So fun!

Purpleprickles · 10/06/2011 22:41

Hello am trying the new app, thanks for mentioning HP I had no idea it was available. Not much to report tonight here just glad it's Friday. Yay to Q for being so good and following instructions about drinking more water. I hope it works Smile

HavePatience · 11/06/2011 12:02

I'm writing down all of the food and drink that Q eats over yesterday, today and Sunday(and outline what he has in a typic week) and giving it to our friend who is has MA in nutrition to look at and tell us what it could be (she suggested it, so not being crazy!).
That will be helpful, too. Have also told your suggestions.

pepperrabbit · 13/06/2011 09:55

Morning all, hope you had a good weekend Smile. The rain here was so depressing yesterday, all the kids have cabin fever.... (I include DH in my definition of "kids").

oooh, it's looks all nice and dust-free here, thanks pepper

Has everyone decided what they're doing about school/pre-school yet?

F goes to nursery for 2 days a week (a hangover from my working hours before I went on maternity leave with A, decided to keep him there for continuity for him and to give me time with A).

We're pretty sure we'll keep him in the same private nursery when he turns 3 rather than moving him to a school's one, as he loves it there, we're very pleased with it and A will be there too.

i'm feeling really sad/unsure/unready about him going to school - seems so young. i'm seriously debating holding him off until year 1 (thereby missing reception) but the cons to that would be losing a place (very likely here as our closest schools are all outstanding ofsted rated so it's v competitive for places) and that it would be hard for him to join later than the other children. sigh...

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/06/2011 11:20

cake - D goes to playgroup in same village as dd's school for 2 mornings a week. I am waiting for a full day place (one day per week) for him at the private nursery school that dd went to, and expecting to get that from sept. Then in Jan I might add in one more morning, depending on how he's coping. Haven't decided yet whether he'll do the school nursery or the private one or a mixture when we get to that stage, but he'll def do reception. Why would you want him to miss that cake? It's the year when he can form friendships with the children that he'll go through school with. If he misses that then he could end up feeling like an outsider :(. Can't believe it's still over 2 years til they start school tbh! And of course, like me, you'll only have 1 school year between your 2!

CakeandRoses · 14/06/2011 11:45

it probably doesn't make sense to keep him out of reception really csws. writing it down just then made me realise that. i suppose i've toyed with the idea of home ed, decided against it and this way a silly last ploy to keep him with me a bit longer at least.

Sad
CakeandRoses · 14/06/2011 11:46

it;s very weird only having a school year between them, isn't it? they'll both be there in no time!

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/06/2011 11:52

Yes it seems v strange when there's nearly 2 actual years between them. Hoping that J is quicker on his speech and development than D, or it could be hard for him. But I'm an August baby myself and it never gave me any problems :).

Poor J is hot (38.8) and sleeping on my chest this morn, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise that toddler group was off.

CakeandRoses · 14/06/2011 12:09

oh that is hot. hope it's nothing too bad/long-lasting

it is a bit of a worry about them being late in the school year but i'm pleased you have survived to tell the tale Smile. i'm october like our toddlers so had the same experience they'll have in that way.

HavePatience · 14/06/2011 15:56

I hope J is on the mend soon csws :(

Oh I'm so Blush that I let the thread get dusty! Grin

Q will start PreK in sept 2012 because he'll be going to the school where I teach (he'll be on a bursary). It's an American system and International so different to British schools in many ways.
I'm also october (day after Q!) and I was always the youngest in my grade, but I was fine, had a lot of friends and always excelled academically. I realise Q may need an extra year and if he does I'll let him repeat pre kindergarten.

He will go to the preschool room at nursery near our cm 2 days per week from sept and get some funding (hopefully!) from Jan. I'm trying to get him one more day there so 3 preschool 2 cm but need to wait on another day space so currently will be 3 days cm 2 days preschool.

I can't believe they are all nearly 3!! Shock.

pistachio yy, csws and i had been talking about our 10 month olds who have summer birthdays.

Our toddlers will be the oldest in the year here and they start school the term after they turn 4 (i think Confused) hence why i feel it's too young. In many countries it's 5, which i'd much prefer.

F is very outgoing and loves nursery so will probably be fine with whatever happens - it's probably just my own issues making me unhappy about it.

i thought the funding was 15 hours - or is it different there?

HavePatience · 14/06/2011 21:52

Cake is it 15 hours? I asked nursery and they said to just pay their rates for his 2 days with them and then in Jan they send the paperwork and my fees will "likely reduce" Confused

Pistachio - Sad I hope T gets a place. Does it help his chances that DD has gone there?

I'm not so nervous about Q starting school because preK isn't like reception - much more like preschool. And I know all of the teachers and will be on campus with him and arrive to school and leave school with him so will see him loads. Other teachers with kids at our school love it. I'm sure I'll be a basket case at the time, though! BlushIf this was not the case then I'd feel the same as you. In fact I feel sick thinking of him going those two days to preschool room at nursery instead of cm in sept! Blush but I know he's ready for it and will love it. Need to let go.... Sad

pepperrabbit · 14/06/2011 22:05

Yes it's 15 hours, but at a set rate per hour I think. So if your nursery would normally charge £8 per hour, you'll get a reduction but not free hours IYSWIM. Somewhere around £4.20

HavePatience · 15/06/2011 07:24

Ok that makes sense Smile thanks!

HavePatience · 15/06/2011 07:31

Csws how is J this morning?

KSal · 15/06/2011 08:13

I have to admit that I'm not really worried about Emma starting pre school, but that is mainly because it will be on the same site as her current nursery. I am keeping it simple (although more expensive) and keeping her in the private place because she'll be in the same place as Orin for just a little bit longer. My only concern is that she won't be with her keyworker any more and she has really bonded with her (been there 2 years now!) but form talking to the other mums in a similar situation it hasn't been too much of a wrench.

My main concern is that when she starts school she will know no-one having not been to one of the neighbourhood nurseries, but I figure that neither did I when I started and I guess she won't be the only one...

Hope J is feeling better this morning CSWS, Emma had a temperature friday and saturday with no other discernible symptoms but she pulled round ok...

she's very clingy at the moment - she's asking to be carried all the time and wanting to sit on DH's lap to eat etc etc is anyone else having this kind of problem... i don't want to be a mean mummy, but its driving us both a bit crackers because its accompanied by a lot of whining and crying when we don't comply.

Orin's sleeping has been a nightmare recently... waking up at 3am and not settling for a couple of hours (and i get up at 5.50 for work). nothing (including pain relief) seems to settle him so the night before last I just started controlled crying as it wasn't much different from what was happening anyway Sad then last night he slept through.... can't help thinking that it hasn't worked that quickly and i'm in for hell tonight Hmm. yesterday was hideous trying to concentrate having been up that long.

pepperrabbit · 15/06/2011 10:02

The only thing that worries me about DD starting preschool is the admin and the luggage! This morning we took 2 drinks bottles, 2 book bags, 2 set of after school club kit, extra snacks for club, 2 envelopes for the Fathers day gift thing, 1 nursery bag, 3 raincoats, show and share for DS2 and the buggy (and 3 children Smile). How do people carry this stuff when they don't have a buggy! As I'm also planning for 6 weeks with my arm in a full cast, AND the builders starting 4 months of work at about the same time, I'm a little bit worried my head my explode!

KSal · 15/06/2011 11:22

pepperrabbit, I think I would go a bit crackers worrying about that even the smallest disruption to my routine makes my head hurt

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/06/2011 12:02

Could you stretch to some hired help for a few weeks when you have the cast pepper?

KSal - dd didn't go to the nursery attached to her school so knew no-one when she started, but she soon made new friends :).

J still rubbish. Wouldn't sleep last night. I got a 2 hour stretch, a 1 hour stretch, and then a brief doze with him on top of me just before getting up time . He was sick in the night too. He is so clingy that I can't do anything without holding him, which makes sorting the dishwasher and making meals rather difficult, so the place is looking a mess again - aaaaarrrgh. At least he intermittently doesn't mind me sitting at my computer whilst he potters around the living room (only after a good dose of nurofen though), but woe betide if I try to get up and do anything constructive!

Have phoned GP for appt but have to call back at 2.
