melissa is L already dairy-free or did i imagine that?
right... why i is vegan:
I was veggie from birth as parents went veggie (due to animal/ethical reasons) before i was born. from the age we could understand enough to make our own decision, we were 'allowed to choose' whether to be veggie or not. the thought of eating meat horrified me so i've been a lifelong veggie whereas my sister ate meat for a couple of years from about 7yo. they obv brainwashed me better
I am so pleased and grateful that they gave me that start in life.
about 15 years ago, there was a lot in the press about live exports of calves etc and as my mother lives near Shoreham, I took part in one of the demos there. seeing the way the forsaken creatures were crammed into the lorries and the state of some of them - and then knowing the doom to which they were headed (veal calves esp
) opened my eyes to what really went on in the dairy industry. I decided to try just cutting out dairy in in the house but within a month I was totally vegan.
these days, i couldn't give you the single reason that i'm a vegan. it feels right to me on every level - ethical, environmental and from a health perspective. i don't even really think about it as being a choice, it's just normal for me.
and to your question mlic. we will give F and A the same choice that my parents did me. I would love them to remain vegan, and at the very least veggie but i would accept and support them in whatever they decided. I wouldn't cook them meat so they'd probably eat similarly to dh - 90% vegan in the house and then eat meat when out/takeaways.
i hope i'm giving them a good start in the way my parents did with me and they'll be pleased about it but who knows? they'll probably turn out to be the biggest burger-munchers on the planet!
