Dh, sorry I don't use a recipe for crumble. I just chuck the ingredients in a bowl and hope for the best! I usually make a big batch and freeze what's left in a freezer bag. I then use it to top overipe fruit, chopped, to make quick puds for me the children.

Crap here. L definitely has ear infection and in lots if pain. Slept 1/2 hr this morning and 1/2 thus afternoon, then cried for 3 hours. I took him out in pushchair, but even though exhausted he cried out and woke up everytime he did fall asleep. And I've been covered in all bodily fluids today except one and have no plans to go near dh so hoping to avoid that!

Go to recipe is local pizza takeaway! Might have to give them a call as all meat I bought earlier is slow cook stuff, and dh won't be happy if I 'fob' him off with pasta or something veggie again! He's a meat & potato guy (avoiding the beg if poss)

MelissaM · 17/05/2011 18:59

Veg even!

Woodlands · 17/05/2011 19:16

My fallback meal is penne all'amaratriciana - basically just pasta with tomato, chilli and bacon sauce. we always have all the ingredients in so it's good if we don't have much else. fry up an onion and some garlic and some bacon. add tomato puree (if you have any) plus some chilli powder/flakes. add a tin of chopped tomatoes plus a glug of red wine if you have some, water if not. cook for about 10 mins along with some pasta, top with grated cheese. yum.

tonight i am going to cook mushroom and asparagus risotto. it's not often i have risotto rice, parmesan and an open bottle of white wine so I will take the opportunity to combine them! can't decide whether to use baby stock so that j can have some tomorrow or not.

tsc Grin L has moments like that, DH was cuddling S earlier and said 'you're such a gorgeous boy' L immediately piped up with 'L a gorgeous girl too'

memphis83 · 17/05/2011 19:55

tsc I admit I just laughed at or drinking cider in the park!!! tea sounds nice, I still cant make bloody cheese sauce though so wont be copying your recipe!!!
melissa my dh eats veg chilli and bolognaise but only because I told him it was veg mince after he ate it so now eats it, apart from that he has to have meat most of the time, I make ratatoile (sp?) with past or roasted little potatoes and I have to put chicken in for him, last night I did pasta bake, I add onions, peppers, mushrooms so its filling and said can I leave chicken out and his face said it all as he said if we must! the other day I did poached mackerel, mash and loads of veg and he liked it but before that the only fish he eats is in finger form!
chulita that thread made me laugh, my sister has always had fuck buddies and stuff like that but Ive always been like an old lady and taken the sensible root, when I have a drink im a bit lary but always have my sensible head on!!!
L tried to take his first step today he kept putting his hand on floor to steady himself, standing up then he went for it...in slow motion his foot came up like the first man on the moon then he realised its quicker to crawl and dropped to the floor and crawled off, he has spent most of the day in the dog cage with starkey!! (not locked in you understand) he just doesnt see a differentce between him and his mate!

Memphis I've just giggled at you talking about fuck buddies and saying you take the "sensible root". Over here a root is a shag Grin.

My bread is yummy and part of the reason I made it is food prices seem to be going up crazily fast over here at the mo and bread is one of the worst offenders, a nice unsliced loaf is about $4 (2 quid) and I used to buy sliced stuff but that is not much cheaper now. So figured I might as well try to make it myself!

mlic Shock re money. so dh has just been paying for household costs and food but not giving you anything for yourself??

tell don't ask, woman! you work as hard as he does - it's both your money, imo.

tsc you made me laugh too re cider, you sick old mare Grin

melissa is L already dairy-free or did i imagine that?

right... why i is vegan:

I was veggie from birth as parents went veggie (due to animal/ethical reasons) before i was born. from the age we could understand enough to make our own decision, we were 'allowed to choose' whether to be veggie or not. the thought of eating meat horrified me so i've been a lifelong veggie whereas my sister ate meat for a couple of years from about 7yo. they obv brainwashed me better Grin I am so pleased and grateful that they gave me that start in life.

about 15 years ago, there was a lot in the press about live exports of calves etc and as my mother lives near Shoreham, I took part in one of the demos there. seeing the way the forsaken creatures were crammed into the lorries and the state of some of them - and then knowing the doom to which they were headed (veal calves esp Sad) opened my eyes to what really went on in the dairy industry. I decided to try just cutting out dairy in in the house but within a month I was totally vegan.

these days, i couldn't give you the single reason that i'm a vegan. it feels right to me on every level - ethical, environmental and from a health perspective. i don't even really think about it as being a choice, it's just normal for me.

and to your question mlic. we will give F and A the same choice that my parents did me. I would love them to remain vegan, and at the very least veggie but i would accept and support them in whatever they decided. I wouldn't cook them meat so they'd probably eat similarly to dh - 90% vegan in the house and then eat meat when out/takeaways.

i hope i'm giving them a good start in the way my parents did with me and they'll be pleased about it but who knows? they'll probably turn out to be the biggest burger-munchers on the planet!

memphis83 · 17/05/2011 20:28

tsc will give that a try at some point then with added bloody chicken for dh!!!
wss holy shit I thought bread was getting expensive here! I eat about 2 slices a week so it doesnt effect me! I have always been too sensible for my own good, I had this fear I would end up pregnant and alone, then when the time came I thought I wouldnt be able to have kids as I had never even had a scare when every girl around me seemed to be having the morning after pill as a weekly tablet!
oh and ive only just realised I put root not route, i was flicking between this and a fucking gardening site and i looked and thought root doesnt look right but i think its because im boggling my brain reading about bloody gardening and wrote it anyway!!!...on that note im going to get my glasses out of the car!

I had some leftover chocolate icing from mum's birthday cake (cheers for the recipe aptly-named-mner) and some crumble topping from the plum crumble I made on Saturday and just made a chocolate mousse pudding type thing...I've been such a fatty the last few days, I reckon I've put on about 5lbs.

I love my dairy but after getting used to not having it with S I felt a lot better for not shovelling cheese/chocolate down my throat. I agree with cake on the ethics issue and we try to get around that by buying local meat from a local butcher as much as possible. We don't eat a lot and I eek out what we do have (a chicken breast will do both of us 2 meals as a stir-fry type thing)

I'm off to crochet L a sandwich, I'm on a roll now - got a ballerina top to knit for her next but at the rate I go she'll have grown out of the pattern by the time it's done.

WhatSheSaid · 17/05/2011 21:28

Sorry mlic that was v nosey of me, not my business.

I just shouted at my dh before he left for work this morning, I feel a bit guilty now but he was being really annoying.

Anyway, gardening websites? Actually who was it who was growing blueberries? Was it chulita? Are they easy to grow? Do you get lots of fruit off them? I was thinking about trying to grow them next year. Lots of stuff grows really well here as it's hot in summer but also gets lots of rain in spring/autumn so I want to try some new things to grow (next summer, which is Dec onwards)

CakeandRoses · 17/05/2011 21:54

mlic i'm sorry please feel free to tell me to fuck off butt out but that is awful Sad

you're such an intelligent, lovely person - i don't get why you're not an equal wrt to money, chores, childcare etc etc in your household.

if i'm honest, from what i know, i'd say you work harder, esp during the fuck-awful first 6m of shoutyboy.

your mam must think vegans are on the verge of collapse if she think that about veggies Grin

also had to Grin at your 'i really don't care about animals at all' tsc tell it how it is, woman!

glad the cake went down well chul and that you love animals too Smile

Just quickly cos i NEED to go to bed. i finally got out of the house this morning after having a horror story of a morning. I went into D at 7am and he was sat up in his cot playing quietly with ted, bless him he looked like an angel so rosey cheked and beautifull just sat there quietly..........then i unzipped his sleeping bag and OH MY GOD, i was full of poo!! full of it man! i had to shower him and the clothes off in the bath. He did wake in the night and took a while to self settle but he wasnt full on crying just moaning so im guessing thats what that was about, a nappy so full of poo it just exploded! thank god for sleeping bags. My friend suggested he was having a dirty protest being left in his cot, haha!
cake he goes to bed between 7 and 7.30 depending how on the ball i am and how tired he is.
Oh mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn, why does my DH get on my tits soooooooo much??? i have such a short fuse!!
MW went fine, just loads of health questions etc, she took blood and weewee and had a feel of my tummy, she said she wouldnt think i was any more than 8 weeks as she couldnt feel anything. They are refering to the 12 week scan as the 11 week scan now so could be with in the next 4 weeks hopefully.
Now, stop chatting i cant keep up! Also is there anyone out there that doesnt cook all this lovely sounding food you guys eat?? I am such a bad person as i just dont cook really!
BED is calling........i can hear it.........from here!!
Night xx

Evening all. :) We're whipping through the 900's... I'm surprised Cake hasn't relocated us all in a panic yet!

Totally agree about cheese, MLIC. Grin If I had to give up either cheese or chocolate, the chocolate would have to go!

For meat consumption, I seem to sit in both camps. I'm not too worried about the animals, but I just don't like the taste of meat so rarely eat much! I guess that's good for the animals, but not really all that noble.

Seafood is much more common in this house, we had home made prawn Thai green curry with water chestnuts, green beans and noodles for dinner. Delicious!

However I now have more than half a carton of coconut milk sat in my fridge door... Anyone got any good ideas for uses for it?

I finally seem to be shifting some of the extra weight I've been carrying around thanks to pregnancy, which is a relief! I've managed to drop almost half a stone, so far. Grin

The diet was helped out today by my now being a pint lighter, thanks to the vampire nurses at the blood donor clinic. I'm currently being assessed for platelet donations, which would mean donating monthly - eek!

I got M a "My Mum gave blood today sticker!". Grin Which she promptly ripped off and tried to eat. Hmm
