Sounds like you've got an angel baby to me! (It's alright for some .

I agree about it being nice having everything done for you, but in the old days they used to keep them doing nothing for a few weeks, so I don't feel too guilty

I have a few questions for you guys using bottles. What kind of bottles are you using? I've started with Playtex Nursers because I had hoped to breastfeed and they're supposed to be less confusing for expressed feeds. They're fine but I'm a bit unsure about the ongoing cost of purchasing liners. The liners are supposed to collapse as baby feeds so that she takes in less air and spits up less but Rosie spits up with every feed. I guess she might spit up more without the liners but I'm not totally convinced.

Also, how do you mix your feeds? With Tobes I would just mix a bottle when he wanted one and he liked them at room temperature, easy. We tried the formula powder with Rosie and she spit up virtually the whole feed. I tried premixing it so that it could settle but she still didn't take to it well. We've gone back to the premade formula and it's working fine but it's so much more expensive. If you do use the powder do you mix it while the water is still hot or wait for it to cool? I've only used cooled boiled water so far but I wonder is mixing it while the water is hot will make the formula dissolve better.

Gosh, that's become a bit long-winded! Would be interested to hear how the other bottle Mums are doing it.

Hi Tex - I'm using MAM anti-colic bottles that have a special valve in the bottom, and are supposed to produce less wind I think. Saying that I'm still using Infacol on Nat, and she gets some good old windypops coming out of both ends. As for formula, we use ready mixed because I'm a lazy moo, so I can't be any help there, maybe try using a different formula?

For all those BW fans, have you seen this and this

Evening,

Just spent an age on cd-wow after joining their dvd rental thingy putting films I want to see on my 'queue'! Seeing as I'm going to be spending A LOT of nights in for the forseeable future - not that I mind much, it's FREEZING out there!

Tex when I moved from bfing to the progress milk with Joe I think I used to make it up with the water still hot, it was lumpy when we made it up cold. We've found our babies were less sicky on the SMA milk. Jess has 1 bottle feed a night and like Nova we use a little carton of the SMA Gold and we use a little NUK bottle and she seems to keep most down. Although she always brings a bit up - and I think it always looks a lot more than it actually is.

Tessasmum - Your dd sounds a hoot! How old is she? And you should congratulate yourself on making it suce a brilliant positive experience for her

I've thought of a plus side breast feeding - You can type and breast feed at the same time.

And one for bottle feeding - You get your sex drive back a lot sooner! Mine is virtually zero and I'm finding it a bit of a chore.

Hmmm, a sex drive or one-handed typing? Which would you prefer? Nova, please don't tell me you can feed Nat and type at the same time or I'll just kill myself now

LOL rodeo! No I can't type and feed at the same time! and I can verify that Tessa is absolutly adorable.

must go, Nat not appreciating MN today...

back now, with nat asleep in one arm - she's still not liking the vibrating chair, even though we've got a sheepskin to go on it.

my back is killing me, with all the holding/lifting/carrying - boo.

my neck is covered in scratches from nat little fingers, must try to cut her nails again.

the HV came to see me yesterday, and told me i'm not allowed to go to the baby clinic at the local GP surgery because i'm registered with a private GP . That means I can't have her weighed or checked over, or have her book filled in - she said it was all political and if it was up to her she'd let me go. they're not even based at the surgery they just use it for a drop in centre once a week. v. !

morning all,
Hope you are all well and getting enough sleep (Ha, laugh out loud emoticon)
We are ok here although Joshua likes to feed every hour or so day and night!!!! (knackered emoticon)I kind of expected this as he is only tiny he can only take a little milk and then digests it ultra quick!!
My milk has arrived today though so i look like i have to watermelons down my nighty joshua is very happy.I feel really emotional today as dh has to go to newcastle for two days on a course my mum is driving down to look after us, which is great but not the same as having dh here. The midwife is due sometime today, she is planning on coming out everyday this week!!! Im not looking forward to her taking out the stitches on thursday though
Does anyone else have low iron levels??? If so how are you feeling??? i have been given iron tablets and i wondered how long before i feel normal????
Ah well look after and the babes

Morning everyone.

Nova - thanks for your Tessa comment, I think she's wonderful but then I'm VERY biased She's 2yrs 8 mths Rodeo but going on 13 at times!! She has been great with Ash but is giving us the run-around a bit at times, nothing that we didn't expect though!

Are there any other clinics near you Nova? There are quite a few round here and I don't think they are all in surgeries. That is an absolutely barking 'rule', especially as the HV's are separate from the surgery. I'm for you too if it helps?!
About baby nails - we were told with Tessa that rubbing a little Vaseline on them a few times a day (if you remember) softens them and makes them flake so you don't need to do the really scary nail-clippers/scissors thing. Have been doing it with Ash as he came out with the most beautiful, long elegant nails! He still manages to scratch his face but not too badly.

DH out working this morning for the first time so we are on our own. Have managed to wash my hair and have two washed and dressed (and fed!) children but I'm still in my dressing gown. Going to try and get to our usual Mums and Tots group this afternoon which should be an adventure - Ash's first time in the car and my first go, for 2 years, with the lie-flat car seat. Fingers crossed all round

Hello everyone!
Just catching up on posts, and (four days later) have got round to posting! Congrats to recent graduates! .
Liberty is fine, and will try and post pictures soon.Feeling a bit isolated here as DH has gone back to work tommorrow, and v. tired after dds both up in night (including 2 bed changes becayse of vomiting!!)The only one of us to get a decent(ish) sleep was Libby!.
Really interested to read all postings etc about baby whisperer. I'm a Gina Ford follower, as it's always worked for me, though realisae it's not everyone's cup of tea (though what is!!). Seems like Gina and Tracey aren't a million miles apart anyway, and it certainly helps to know we're all in the same boat . I often think of you all at 2am when I'm trying not to pour my boiling thermos over my hand! .
Speak soon,
Diege and Libby (8 days).

Yay! Made it back in one piece from N. London, despite Elizabeth (which we shorten to Libby too Diege!) puking whole feed over herself & me just as I was about to leave.........requiring both to change tops........then ticket machine kept my card for ages only to spit it back at me as machine broken, meanwhile my train sailed through the station without me,lol![v.v.caalm emoticon]and next train was cancelled, so had to get a bus to the tube station
Theeen, severe train delays on Northern Lne....15 mins to next train..............but we made it in the end and the time bomb didn't wake despite threatening to overheat on tube train.phew! Husband was very pleased we'd come in & baby lavished with much care & attention by all.......nice husband went out & got me gorgeous sandwich, cake & drink,he wanted to take me out to lunch but I had done so much moving about already I just needed to stay put & feed & change bubs etc.....you'll prob all think I'm mad? I was just so pleased to reach my destination!..............journey back went v.smoothly.
Anyhow, thought that account might make you smile, it was pretty classic stuff, I had to laugh!

Thanks for the BW links - I hadn't seen it

Hey I just found that ds likes me typing when he's in his crying mode!

My back's killing me too - do you guys all have proper changing tables? Ours is a set of drawers but it is too low really so I'm wonderinh about getting a proper height one...

I had low iron b4 birth so am still taking pills - felt dreadful until Saturday (about a week post-natal) now I feel a lot better.

Talking of warermelons, don't get Tesco breast pads - DH just took my box back - had to change tops twice yesterday and cut pad off my breast cos it stuck to it and would have ripped it to shreds! Tommy Tippee ones last t10x as long and don't leak so a lot more economical

Diege - do u stick to the GF timings?

Hi girls, how's it going? as you can see i'm up for the late feed and finally rocking Thomas off to sleep, he's a bit of a sicky baby so has to be kept propped up for a while or pukes the whole feed back up again!

Well done Londoner for braving the tube with Elizabeth, I can't bear the tube on my own, let alone with a newborn! A group of us are planning to take the kids to Harrods to see Father Christmas but i've said i'll only go if I can get a cab from Victoria!!!

Nova i sort of had an epidural, they were siting it when i needed to push so i got the drugs but it as it wasn't sited properly it just dissipated around my body, the nice thing about thst was i didn't ache anywhere for a few days, butt it meant i delivered without any real pain relief.

Hey Diege, good to see you over here, so what took you so long? i thought our bubs were going to share a birthday!

Right the munchkin has finally gone back to sleep so i'm off to do the same, hope everyone else is well & i'll try to be a more frequent poster, i have been checking both threads just haven't had a lot to add take care for now Beks

Beks, does position make a difference to them being sick then? And if so, can you give me good instructions for it?! Cos ds has a tendency to projectile the whole feed in my face

I'm also up for a night feed - which was 2 hrs ago, and he hasn' stopped crying since! I was hoping he'd go away and lay in bed, but then decided to make the most of it and pig out and go on computer while I held him.

Morning all,

Well got all children all ready and up and out for quarter to 9 this morning! Well, the baby was wearing a wet nappy with her pyjamas still under her snowsuit but she's clean now!

Only problem is I leave the house in a complete tip in the rush to get out - I'm sat among dirty breakfast pots, dirty pyjamas, toys, etc etc at the mo but feel so drained now it'll have to wait!

Londoner, Congratulations on your trek yesterday! It did make me smile! My trip out to school seems quite paltry in comparison

Someone's waking up .....

Morning girls, Rodeo & Londoner I can join that group too, Ben didn't wake until 8:30, but he's being so foul at the moment i thought i'd let him sleep, so he got to pre school a bit late after a bad breakfast & a quick wash. Thomas was bundled into snowsuit in his pj's and needless to say we hotfooted it round to the school in the car!!! glad i only ave to do this two mornings a week

Girls how are your older children coping with the new arrival? Ben is wonderful with Thomas but gets into a panic or a strop if he cries, i've tried explaining that this is what babies do, but he just doesn't get it. He is also behaving atrociously at the moment, he seems to be in continuous tantrum mode, so any advice you guys can give would be greatly apprecisted.

Beartime, know what you mean about the puking, my MW suggested keeping them propped up after a feed as i said and also raising the head end of the moses basket by placing it on something stable like a telephone directory so that there is less chance of the milk coming back up.
She also said to wind half way through the feed as if the baby already has wind from earlier, the new milk will come up as it will be sitting on this. I also give Thomas a little bit of cooled boiled water between feeds and wind him again to get residual wind up. Hope that helps.

Right off to change yet another nappy, speak to you all later Beks

Beartime - I've only just got it and had a bit of a skim read, but the book 'The Baby Whisperer solves all your problems (by teaching you how to ask the right questions)' seems to be much better and a lot more helpful than 'The Secrets of..' book, much more detailed.

Well took Natalie to see my family in Southampton today, so first long car journey. She behaved amazingly (helped by a dummy I must confess). It melted my heart to see my grandfather, who is very poorly, hold her in his shaky hands. She has three great grandparents still, although sadly that may be going down to two soon .

Bit worried she's had too much sleep today - hope she doesn't make me pay for it later!!!!

Beks - thanks for the input abt puking - when I put him down yesterday, he started sounding like he was going to puke, and I lifted him up again for a minute, then put him down, and he didn;t - so maybe it does work!

Nova - I will have to look at that - I did see some some good stuff on the website. One major thing I;m wondering now is whether you really have to put them down for a nap every time after a feed - cos mine seems like sometimes he is really sleepy and other times he wants to stay up. And at those times if we do put him down he just cries the whole time

Evening girls, just a quickie from me as am still making these bloody eagle wings grrrr!

Poor old Thomas had a stressful day today as he had to go to the jaundice clinic as he's still the colour of chicken korma, needless to say he was not impressed when they tried to take blood from him & duly screamed the place down, which also really upset Ben so i had two very stressed out children today, now just have to wait for a week for the results.

Rodeo glad to see that Jess is doing so well, that must be full fat double cream you're giving her!!! Thomas has not got back up to his birth weight yet so i'm waiting for the hv to suggest top up feeding, which i'm trying to avoid, but we'll just have to wait and see. Needless to say i'll do what's best for Thomas but would prefer to keep feeding if poss.

Right best go as typing one handed & dh is waiting to play his game.

Hope you're all getting enough sleep - lol Beks
