Thanks twinkle, also thanks for the tip off @'Boots' stuff, have been given some really cute clothes from there for Elizabeth...'Molly & Jack' label, will go & look see if they're inc in special offer now u mention it....

novadandypowder · 21/11/2005 10:37

well, the start of another week, where does the time go? Can't believe Natalie will be 6wks on saturday .

Start post natal club at the Portland on weds, hope it's better than their ante-natal, although after the complaints I put in I should think they're a bit scared of me - lol!

Don't mind the cold weather as I can still get out and about for a walk, not looking forward to lots of rain when it comes though.

Londoner - it's good to share birth stories, it's a very empowering experience IMO (the birth, not the sharing). When I went for coffee with two women I met at Gymboree, we ended up swapping birth stories, all very different.

Going to the MN xmas dinner on sat, it'll be odd to be in a room with that many mumsnetters.

rodeo1 · 21/11/2005 14:08

It's sooooooo cold! Brrrrrrr!!

Jessie just wants to be held today, which is quite frustrating because when I need to get smething done, all I can do is leave her to cry in the next room. And she seems to have perfected the most heartbreaking cry to make me feel even more guilty than I already do! AND she's started to get real tears! And the dummy doesn't seem to work anymore, just gets spat out in disgust

No smile yet though, she's hanging on to that one. She's 6 weeks today so should be anytime soon...hopefully.

Have a lovely time on Sat Nova. Have you met any of them before? Would love to put some names to faces! I had a look at the thread and there's about 90 going isn't there? Sound's fab! Let us know how your post-natal club goes on Weds

Right must get some socks on, my feet are like ice x x x

Afternoon mummies,

Hope you dont mind the temporary invasion, just thought i'd pop along and say hello. Hopefully wont be too much longer before i can join you on "the other side" although no signs of labour just yet and only 8 days until my due date.

You all seen to be enjoying your tiny bundles, and cant beleive that some of them are over 1 month old already!

See you soon (i hope)

Londoner · 21/11/2005 18:22

rodeo.....know what you mean...have u tried getting on with jobs while wearing baby in a sling? I find it less stressful, & peaceful!, this way

JenJam · 21/11/2005 18:50

hi rodeo and nova i can't believe your girls are 6 weeks old now!! blimey time does fly doesn't it. some friends came over with their 14 week old boy...he seemed HUGE next to Finn. i can hardly believe how quickly they grow and vow to enjoy every second of his littlehood.

mum went back home on sat, surprisingly i felt quite sad about this, as i thought she might do my head in but i loved having her here. she is very experienced and is able to calm the baby instantly. plus showed me how to to change him without dislocating his little arms(!). only one annoying bit was when she advised me to do short shushes instead of long ones (WTF-a step too far methinks)

James is back off this week and we had a lovely little family nap this pm. it was very sweet. i have been eating like a pig - all the things that i love - especially cheese (non-pasturised!) and sticky toffee cake. i'm going to grow huge at this rate! went to hosp for follow up this a.m. (that was a huge effort getting to hospital for 9 a.m.. Apparently my tear is healing up nicely and the 'best kind' as in superficial in the right places. so my vagina and bowel did not become one as i feared.

i do have a very sore uretha tho' when i sit down (sp?) had a look in the mirror and it seems a bit 'stretched'- previously this orifice was not discernable to my eye i would have to pee in order to see where it was!! now it's very noticeable and a bit swollen - Dr said this is 'normal' and nothing to worry about but it does hurt when sitting down and walking wearing a panty liners/pad. Did anyone else have this? perhaps it was the catheter ????when i had the spinal for the repairs. it's a bit odd because i would have expected the actual stitching to hurt more than this. also did you get itching down below? i'm assuming this is because skin is healing...hope it's not a yucky infection - Dr didn't think so but i always think itching = thrush or some other infection.

rather bizarre having the dr and the student draw the curtain in the consultation room, when james and the baby were the only other people in the room. like some kind of pretence of privacy. feel like everyone in the hospital has peered up my vagiminora - i am not modest anymore! have tried to show birth video to my best friend and she begged me not to.

what's the bottom line on drinking booze while breastfeeding? what do we reckon...one glass of wine a week or a glass an evening after giving the baby the last feed of the day? breastfeeding consellor said best policy is NONE or one a week...but i think they always err on side of caution...on other hand wouldn't go ahead and do anything that stunts Finn's development

this post is getting too long, i have soooo many questions

has anyone heard from enthusia?? she is v. quiet

heard about your trip to the angel londoner - you are brave taking him on the tube...did you take him in the buggy or in a sling, i can't wait to take finn out, but it's just sooo cold and i feel he's still a bit too little i'm constantly checking and rechecking his temperature....like an old mother hen...

have just munched my way thru a christmas size tub of cashews...should i be staying off the nuts while breastfeeding in order to avoid nut allergy?

right that's me done

now going to have a little look on the nov antenatal thread

bye

JenJam · 21/11/2005 18:54

just wanted to ask a couple of other things

Nova where is the MN xmas dinner - is it too late to come along?

Londoner - what sling do you have?? i could do with getting one, are you breastfeeding? can you feed with one of these? I could really do with getting some stuff done, plus it would be nice and warm!!

KristinaM · 21/11/2005 19:45

Hi jenjam - just thread crashing to say Hi. Glad your "bits" are healing up Ok. I was thinking of you as you seem to have had such a bad birth experinence and i can remember vividly how sore my stiches were last time. And they were not as bad as yours . i found the whole experince very traumatic and I'm glad to hear that you are coping so much better than i did!!!!

Finn sounds wonderful and I'm glad that you are James will be getting time alone together this week . Enjoy!!!

rodeo1 · 21/11/2005 20:37

Hi Jen!

Glad to hear you're healing so well! And you still have 2 orifices instead of 1 I've been having a glass (or 2) beer with my dinner and a glass of wine on Sunday - I think as long as you're not drunk you should be fine! I'd say you'd be fine with the nuts too as long as theres no family hist of allergies to them.

KWYM about everyone peering at your bits! I had about 6 different docs (all male) looking at mine when I had that god awful ulcer down there. Just kept my eyes on the ceiling!

Must go someones crying....

twinkle1 · 21/11/2005 20:49

jenjam
glad to hear you are healing up.Not sure if it would help but i put a few drops of tea tree oil in my baths, it helps c/section scar to heal and to stop any infections. It works for me,no scar infection so it might help your healing ????
I wonder where enthusia is???? hope she is ok.
Anyone else suffering from piles???? mine r bloody killing me not helped by taking iron tablets TDS
well need to go someone wants feeding (i shall start moooing soon)

karmamother · 21/11/2005 21:10

hi ladies, just to let you know we've started a new due in nov thread.
here

Diege · 22/11/2005 11:54

Morning all! Where does the time go! A precious few hours while Libby's up for her nap, so had a bgrowse before bottle washing. Don't be deceived by apparent organisation/well-trained baby - it's not happening . Had to let her cry bit out for 10 mins this morning while I had a shower, and the Gina thing's a bit topsy turvey too! Sick toddler back at nursery now though, so some relief there! Panicking a bit as Libby brought full feed back up this morning, so just hoping she bhasn't picked anything. I'm always tempted to fill them up again after vomiting, but from past experineces with dds, realise this is not usually the best option!
Twinkle/Jenjam: I'm very 'itchy' too, with horrendous piles and general soreness - think it may be stiches healing, though has 'explore' in bath (sorry if TMI!) and was horrified to discover gaping orifice and spiky stich towards 'the back' - what have they done to me! Going to leave it for a bit (she says, furiously doing pelvic floor exercises!).
Still freezing here, and loads to do but bot really motivated today. Is anyone else feeling just a teeny bit isolated being at home with just bubs to talk to? Must make the effort to 'do stuff', but so tired...
Going to check on Libs; hope she hasn't been sick!
Diege .

Londoner · 22/11/2005 12:05

Helloooooooo!

Jen, took Elizabeth to Angel in a sling.........it's a Wilkinet and is great....lent to me by my cousin, has done for her 4 kids & is still in top condition! Haven't tried breast-feeding with it on yet but I reckon it's poss, used to feed DD1 in old sling whilst peeling potatoes etc......could double as good party trick eh? I feel confident that she's warm as my body heat helps, & I wrap a blanket round the baby & sling tucked under feet etc to keep out draughts, v. cosy....good for getting up wind too, yes I have a windy baby............hopefully no one thinks it's me when she lets rip on the tube LOL!
I think cashews r fine it's really just peanuts you're meant to avoid?
... I avoid alcohol & caffeine altogether because they're stimulants and I sure don't want to make life any harder so I just have gallons of cammomile/peppermint tea....sorry I know that doesn't answer your question....
You're amazing managing to get to hosp appt by 9am! Would recommend sea salt for your bath good way to kill any poss infections or wounds...poor you you're having to be v.brave methinks...
twinkle, sorry 2 hear about piles....have you tried "Floradix" instead of iron tabs? Does same job but doesn't bung u up.......although costs a small fortune.....may be worth it?
Hi karma...thanks 4 the link....
BTW....this baby slept from 12am til 7.30am fabulous stuff!!!!!!!Yay!

novadandypowder · 22/11/2005 12:37

Hellooo everyone...I too have a baby attached to me as it's easier to get things done. She's big enough to go in the baby bjorn carrier now but before that I was using a baby bag sling borrowed from a friend - Jenjam - they've just updated the sling reviews on the MN homepage so that may be worth a look if you want to get one. They're great for short trips, getting things done if baby won't sleep, and bonding.

The MN xmas meet is in Kensington High St. There is a thread about it here in meet ups - you can always post on there to see if it's possible to go, they update it everyday.

Peanuts are the only ones you have to avoid..

I'm not BFing but I'm with Londoner on avoiding caffeine and alcohol whilst BFing, just going by what I've read..

Try having a jug of water with lavender and tea tree oil in it next to the toilet and poor that on each time you go, should help healing/infection.. as well as making you feel a bit cleaner with all that locia.

Diege - I understand how you feel about being isolated - the only friend I have in London with a baby has gone back to work, so I know no-one to hang out with during the day. I try to make sure I go out for a walk every day, just to get out of the house. I've also joined a gymboree group and a post natal group, and when DD gets a bit older I'm going to take her to swimming lessons and baby massage. You could also try netmums? Does the NCT do anything near you?

I did text Enthusia but have heard nothing back - I hope she's ok. If you're out there lurking, please say hi

tessasmum · 22/11/2005 12:43

Hello,

Just sneaking on whilst Ash is napping and Tessa is watching a video - reward for being really good when Health visitor was here and not trying to monopolise me! She is still lovely with Ash but is pushing boundaries left, right and centre with DH and I. We knew it would be like this but it can be hard. I felt like yesterday was a constant battle and ended up feeling really guilty that we have turned her little world upsidedown. Have resolved to try and be more patient today and its working so far.

We have a Wilkinet sling too and swear by it. It looks a bit complicated but isn't after a bit of practice. It definately keeps babies toasty warm (we had to stop using it for Tessa when the weather got warm), just what they will need this winter. Haven't tried feeding in it though might give it a go this time.

Jen - if you are breast feeding then I doubt you will get huge regardless of what you eat. I ate like a horse during both pregnancies and like a pregnant horse whilst bf Tessa and got down to under my pre-pregnancy weight really quickly without even trying. Seems to be going the same way this time too. I know it doesn't work like that for everyone but hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones. Just beware when you stop bf as it sneaks back on then
Also re alcohol - not sure what official line is but I have been known to have the occasional glass of wine whilst bf (I fed Tessa for just over a year and certainly wasn't abstinant). My take on it is that its much better to have a relaxed mummy than go by any hard and fast NHS 'rules' Then again I was pretty lax about soft cheeses this pg so maybe I'm not the best role model

Right must go and get lunch then we are off to tackle the walk to Mums and Tots with Tessa on a Buggy Board. Hopefully it won't test my new 'be nice' resolve

KristinaM · 22/11/2005 12:53

Hi ladies....on to ask for advice...am a bit embarassed to discover that i now have piles, i assume due to the fact that I've had the runs now every day for weeks. They are painful and bleed when i go to the loo. Is there something i can buy over the counter for them? Cream ? Am dreading to think how bad they will be after i have pushed out an 8 or 9 lb baby.........

Kristina 39+6 !!!!!

Diege · 22/11/2005 14:17

Thanks for the advice Nova . You're right, it does help to try and get out each day, even just for a walk round the block. Will be wishing for isolation tommorrow when I have to do the school run with a baby and 2 toddlers . Am going to try my baby bjorn sling this afternoon, though rememberv last time I used it with dd2 getting frustrated with where to put my purse and keys, and ended stuffing everything into my pockets (with everything falling out at checkout!).
Re: piles, the best I have tried is anusol (sp?), which you can buy over the counter I think? (got it in hossy).
Speak soon,
Diege.

KristinaM · 22/11/2005 14:39

thnaks Diege

twinkle1 · 22/11/2005 14:51

KristinaM
You can buy anusol cream or suppositories over the counter and they are fine for pregnancy/breastfeeding.I also find sitting on some ice wrapped in kitchen role helps. But i can relate with you, the pain is awful mine are just statring to calm down
Hope everyone else is ok
twinkle & joshua

KristinaM · 22/11/2005 18:00

thnaks twinkle . Will go to Boots tomorrow ! Since there s no chance of baby coming soon....sigh...

JenJam · 22/11/2005 18:54

thanks everyone for helpful advice. now feel the need to buy one of these wilkinets. imagine how much stuff i could get done during the daytime. that's the hardest bit...just a shame you can't wear it in the shower! thats my biggest prob, getting washed and dressed.

all this talk of anusol and piles it's a glamourous life. you make me feel guilty talking about my bravery with the tear. i bet my repairs are no more uncomfortable than most of yours/and you've got piles - oh dear did i overdramatise in my birth story??

i love my little fella finn - he is so alert and bright eyed - a joy to be with. i want to wake him up for a cuddle!

it's very unlike enthusia to be so quiet for so long. hope e/thing is okay.

BEKsmum · 22/11/2005 20:01

Evening girls,

Tessamum, can i join your club please, Ben is giving us the run around too, he seems to have regressed to whining toddler mode at the moment and is throwing a tantrum at the slightest thing completet with big ugly tears - oh the joys!!!

Diege and Nova, another source of information for local clubs etc for getting out and about is the Childrens Information Service, your local council should be able to give you their number, I found them invaluable last time.

Feeling very pleased with myself as went to see the dr today and have finally got my blood pressure down to an acceptable level, she is keeping me on the tablets though as she laughed and said parenting is stressful enough, when the boys are being angels which they both were at the time but it isn't always like this so the tablets will stop me from exploding!!!

Right off to congratulate Cads on her new arrival, hope veryone is well, will try to catch up again soon Beks

rodeo1 · 22/11/2005 21:31

I have the Wilkinet (green cord!) too and it is good! Although Jess gets a bit frustrated in it, think I may neede to read the instuctions again as I'm not sure I'm getting the position right...

Just watching the Catherine Tate Show dvd, Ithink she's great and I always feel better after a laugh, been feeling a bit fed up with all the feeding, getting up in the night, bottom changing, etc but I know it won't be long and I don't want to wish the time away!

Didn't have a good evening last night, Jess was awake from 6.30 til 1am! She was a bit colicky, really screaming if she wasn't being bounced around - and the vibrating chair doesn't cut it for her yet. She seems better tonight thank goodness!

Wanted to clarify that I'm not on the booze every night I meant to put the word 'occasional' in there!!

Jen LOL LOL LOL at you in the shower with a sling on, so funny! Glad to hear your baby Fin is such a gorgeous bundle .
Beks well done on bp levels! Yay!
rodeo what a ing lack of sleep for you last night, oh my goodness.....glad you're finding ways to keep ypur spirits up [big admiration emoticon]. Friend of mine with wakeful baby used 2 sleep with sling on.....managed 2 get at least catnaps this way? Could it work 4 u? Lots of strength to you......

rodeo1 · 23/11/2005 10:01

You always sound so happy Londoner, your posts always cheer me up whether they're aimed at me or not! How's little Elizabeth? Is your dd pleased she's not outnumbered by boys anymore?

Jess was a lot better last night, although I spent time I should have been sleeping on ebay looking for xmas pressies - will I never learn. Feel fine today though, just managed the school run again with my 3 and my nephew. Hooray!

Got some sad news on Monday My best friend has split up with her dh last Sunday(on her ds's 2nd b'day) and is just about to have her 2nd baby (due on the 26th Nov). I texted her but haven't heard back so I'm going to ring her to see if she needs anything, although I keep putting it off. Can't imagine how she must feel......really really crap I suppose
