Welcome to those with a March 2010.
Happy Easter from me....
Unwrap it quick!..

Oh, it's a new thread. Sad I was hoping for chocolate.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RubyLovesMayMay · 02/02/2012 12:31

I just wrote a massive post because I havent been on this thread for ages and the bastard computer just wiped it Angry

think its a sign I need to do some actual work

Hope everyone is well.

Congrats MissP Thanks

Hope all the March babies are doing well. Cannot believe our babies are going to be two years old soon

I will update properly soon, but in general:

Im shattered, 28+2 today.

Underactive thyroid+low blood pressure+low iron = popping loads of pills and constipation

Work is doing is my head in, office is freezing. Go on Mat leave on 2nd April cannot wait.

On the plus side, just got a new bed so have been getting amazing sleep.

DS is baking in the oven quite nicely, have had to have scans every 6-8 weeks or so, so have been getting extra peeks at him and he is definitely a boy. DD rubs my belly and says "hello baby" which is cute but I dont think she knows whats actually going to happen.

How far along are all the bumps now? My EDD is 24/04/2012

MissPenteuth · 02/02/2012 13:59

Nice to hear from you Ruby :) Have you tried Spatone? It's a liquid iron supplement and I think it's meant to have fewer.. unpleasant side-effects than iron tablets. You can dilute it in orange juice which masks the taste and the vit C helps the iron absorb. I used it last pg and have seen it mentioned on MN quite a lot too.

I feel it's too early for me to be thinking about due dates but I'm guessing early October. Cycle was v. irregular after coming off the pill so I'll need to wait for the scan to get a better estimate. Actually we only had sex twice since my last period (which started 19th Dec); end of Dec, and mid-Jan. If it had been end of Dec I think I would've had a BFP sooner so I'm assuming it was mid-Jan that did the trick. Sorry this is TMI but my pregnancy maths is rubbish. Going by LMP I'd assume (and the GP and hosp will possibly assume) conception was early Jan. But I think I either ovulated late, or missed a period and ovulated twice (can that happen?). So I think conception was probably more like 15th Jan Confused And I don't even know how many weeks pg that makes me ConfusedConfused Any insight from those with more knowledge of how they calculate these things? Either way the scan will confirm, I'm just slightly worried that they'll be assuming I'm further along than I really am, and the scan will actually be too early. With Izzy they gave me an early scan because LMP had been two months before BFP, so I had even less idea of how far along I was. GP didn't mention the possibility of an early scan this time.

Sorry, that was all a bit rambly. It's been on my mind quite a bit though.

Flisspaps · 02/02/2012 14:14

RubylovesMayMay I can second the Spatone vote - you can get it premixed as well, in 25ml sachets. Or Ferroglobin which is a bit like orange flavoured treacle, but I haven't had the clogging effect of the tablets with either of these Grin

My EDD by scan is 4 April but by my dates is 14 April and that is the date I'm giving everyone if only to buy myself extra days of peace and quiet at the end before the nosy phone calls from various friends and relations to discuss the state of my cervix start Hmm

MissP Using your date of 15 Jan as the conception date, then the calculator I used makes you 4+4, with an EDD of 7 October. I am rubbish at pregnancy maths though, and was seemingly 10 days out by using my LMP (see above!)

PacificDogwood · 04/02/2012 16:06

Hello, ladies, massive hugs and kisses to all of you Smile.
It's been a while, basically RL has been mad busy, I have only just recovered from Christmas and have only posted random short posts on random threads

I am entirely agog and delighted at MissP's announcement: many, many congratulations Smile!! I am so very pleased for you and hope everything will go smoothly with this LO.
Also, I was so disappointed that meeting up did not work out at your recent visit - another example of RL being a bit of a bother at times. Sound like you had a lovely time. Re cold weather: just as well you were not here in the last few days...

Everybody else taking about iron supplements and scans and the more or less pleasant sideeffects of pregnancy makes me feel a teensy bit left out - stupid, realy, to feel like that as I have no actual desire to have another child , but I would not mind the excitement of pregnancy. Oh god, if DH could hear these thoughts he would run away screaming Grin!
So you ladies, carry on, I shall live vicariously through your pregnancy tales - please do keep us updated.
Ruby, 24.4. is a most excellent birthdate, really The Best in the entire kalender year, bar none

Glad to hear your kidnapped friend was released, Flip - what a worry for all who know him that must have been.

So, news here, hmm... Joe is growing up every day, speech - nope, but no problems communicating. As DS3 was really late I am not worried, but will keep an eye on that side of things.
The other day we really thought he might have broken his leg: jumped off 4th step on our stairs (which he had done many, many times before), midjudged and landed hard with heels on 1st step. Howled, I picked him up and he bloody fainted in my arms Shock!! Came to after maybe 3 seconds that seemed like a loooooong time, screamed quite a long time and then could not weightbear: left leg would give under him if he tried to walk and made him cry again. So what did his concerned, medically educated parents do? Gave him a big dose of Nurofen, put him to bed - and he was as right as rain in the morning!
In my defense, it was 7pm, the thought of sitting for hours in an A+E department full of the usual clientel of folks on a Friday night with an overtired toddler was just too much for me. I examined him throuroughly (which made him giggle and I took as a Good Sign) and braced myself for a phone call to my work to say I could not come in in the morning as I had to take my child to casualty... Nightmare - I am so glad, it turned out ok.
Strangely enough, he has not jumped off the stairs since....Hmm

My mum had cataract surgery done which went pearshaped and she will have to have the same eye operated on again next week. She can currently see worse in that eye than before and is understandably not a happy bunny. I feel really sorry for her and hope that they can fix it next time round.

DH has bought the Largest Telly in the History of the World Angry - we didn't need it, I didn't want it, we can (kind of) afford it, but at the expense of other things... Gah!! He at least has insight into his HiFi/home entertainment addiction; just doesn't feel the need to exercise any restraint.

So, I promise I'll be back a bit more again. Hope you are all well. And yoohoo!! MissP once again Grin!!

SiameseIfYouPlease · 04/02/2012 16:50

OMG pacific I don't think I could've coped with a fainting toddler! However, my parents are Drs, and I was 22 months when I fell down and broke my thigh bone. Being doctors, ( and in Canada- no NHS) they left me for two days before going to A&E. I guess I didn't make enough noise to worry them!

MandaHugNKiss · 06/02/2012 12:12

Thank goodness your friend was released safely, flip

fliss Good news on the gtt (I'm having one at 28 weeks after James weight and I'm measuring 5 weeks ahead at the moment, god help me, another whopper brewing ) and really hoping you get your vbac.

MissP !! Yay for your good news! I think, looking at when you had sex mid Jan, your (clearly!) implantation bleed on the 26th Jan, your faint pos on the 28th, that you are 5 weeks, give or take a day. Fingers crossed for smooth sailing.

James is not so great with conversation, either. He has quite a few words (but not loads), however seriously understand everything I say/ask of him. I'm not worried - they're all different, right (with DS1 at his 2 year check the HV said he had the vocab of a 6 year old Shock ). He's also had the two very back molars come through on the bottom recently and... has suddenly, for no reason I can discern, started sleeping through the night more or less Still not down at a 'reasonab;e' hour but 9.30-10.30 through until the same hour the following morning with one brief waking is a million miles improvement on not aslepp until gone midnight with multiple wakenings then wanting up around 8. Also throwing some MASSIVE stroppy tantrums but on the whole happier in himself since he started sleeping. I suppose he's simply been so challenging the last 22 months as he was tired Hmm

Flisspaps · 06/02/2012 12:30

Manda Thank you. But I've not had a GTT or planning a VBAC, so I shall step back to allow those good wishes to pass on to Flip Grin

5 weeks ahead? Shock then again, a friend of mine was measuring 7 weeks ahead at one point, but then showed up as average on a growth scan and came out at 40+13 at 9lb 2oz or thereabouts.

Hooray for good sleep though, doesn't it make SUCH a difference ? I think DD's molars are on their way as she's got little pink hamster cheeks and is demanding ice, she was eating as much snow as she possibly could yesterday (white, not yellow) and is very whingy today.

Think that DC2 may have turned at last, bump definitely feels different since yesterday so am hoping that we now have a right-way-up-as-in-upside-down baby, I do not need it to be either transverse or arse first (as they say on Call the Midwife!)

Meeting the SoM to put the final paperwork in place for HB on Wednesday. Am getting a bit jittery about it to be honest. I still absolutely believe it's the right thing for me and this baby to plan a home birth, but I just think it's all getting a bit close (31+5), memories of DD's birth have started to come back a bit more vividly and DH still isn't happy about me not choosing the CLU. But I think I'd be equally as jittery about planning a CLU birth as well, knowing that's where DD was born and that I'd be so much more likely to have intervention there which is what I am desperate to avoid this time...ARGH!

And to top it all off, I have a hole in my tooth (well, I suspect more than one hole in more than one tooth) probably caused by the gallons of full sugar fizzy pop I have craved this time round which means that I've had to be super brave and call the dentist. Bloody hate the dentist, with the whizzy drill and suction and vibrating head and ENORMOUS ANAESTHETIC NEEDLES. Ugh. I'll willingly attempt to pop a baby out in the living room, just don't make me go to the dentist!

evitas · 06/02/2012 14:19

Hi all

I'm very sorry I've just been a lurker and haven't posted in a long time. I promise I'll be back for a proper post.

But I had to come over here today. V. is 2 today!! I'm very emotional (as usual)... I can't believe so many things have happened.
Thank you for all your support over the past years

:)

MissPenteuth · 06/02/2012 14:35

Happy 2nd birthday to your gorgeous V. evitas! :) The time really does just fly, doesn't it?

Flisspaps · 06/02/2012 15:31

2 already? Bloody hell.

Happy birthday V! Grin

SiameseIfYouPlease · 06/02/2012 15:45

Happy birthday evitas DS - V can start the parties rolling.. I like the cake - DH is going to attempt a George Pig for C, and we are inevitably going to see Peppa Pig at the theatre on her birthday weekend. We also managed to build a George snowpig yesterday, and C loved sledging too.

In fact everytime we came inside, she demanded to go back out. So you'd think that this would tire her out and she'd sleep past her normal 5.40am wake up? Nope. Woke at 5am. She has slept through since this time last year, but always an early riser. She was going down at 6.30pm but we recently moved this to 7.30pm but all this has done is lessened the time she sleeps as she still wakes before 6am pretty much EVERY day. Ive even started keeping a sleep diary in excel for her.. Basically, she naps for 45 min at nursery and this leads to a 5am wake up, but gets about 2hrs at home for a nap, and then sleeps a little later. But pre 6am wake ups are killing me and DH. Any clues anyone? She still is sleepy when she wakes up, and will yawn for ages, and nearly falls asleep at 7.45 in the car on the way to nursery (5 mins). Sorry for my dull rant :)

Good luck with your meeting and the dentist Fliss

Wheres sarah gone? Isnt her DS2 a february boy?

AfriBaby · 06/02/2012 18:19

hey ladies, all lurky no posty on this end. Hurray for new and growing bumps, commiserations on next rounds of teething, poor sleepers etc. And congrats evitas on your 2 year old!

Fliss a friend of mine was told she couldn't have anaesthetic when in last weeks of pregnancy (an OB/GYN colleague informs me this is nonsense) so she had root canal treatment WITHOUT ANAESTHETIC. I was like Shock. Childbirth with no painkillers okay, but root canal? No way. Ramble ramble - but here's hoping the dentist visit is okay for you!

Afribaby will not be an Afribaby for much longer - we return to Europe in 3 weeks time and totally have my head in the sand about how much packing, organising etc. still needs to be done. I work until the day we leave. Argh.

Plus DH - who has been a stay-at-home papa for nearly 2 years - has not found a job yet. :( Been reading some of the threads about returning to work after being a SAHM with interest. So grateful that I had this opportunity to take my career forward and have a child, but gutted that it appears to have been at the expense of DHs career. Sigh.

Anyway, sorry for the downer post. Just a bit meh over on this end. At least we have no snow though. Sitting barefoot on the terrace, can hear crickets.

Flisspaps · 06/02/2012 22:21

Root canal with no painkillers

I've had a filling with no anaesthetic before because I hate needles so much, and that was interesting but no way would I have anything done now without. Your poor friend - how brave!

:( for DH not finding a job yet, but these things work out in the end - you might not see the light at the end of the tunnel but that's just because it's around a corner, not because it isn't there :)

MandaHugNKiss · 07/02/2012 10:48

Egads, I am a twit - sorry for mixing people up! Blush In my defence, I have baby brain AND a cold James helpfully passed on to me three days ago. A very 'heady' one, all sinus and pressure in my forehead. So, yeah, it's totally that... Grin

missP Make it so. Grin

And happy (belated) birthday to V. It just boggles the mind we have a two year old already!

RubyLovesMayMay · 07/02/2012 11:37

Hi Everyone!

Cant believe its birthday season already! Amaya will be 2 in one month exactly! I dont think we're having a party for her this year though. Just going to take her somewhere and get her a cake and some balloons for the house etc. Just me, her and DH. Im trying to get as much quality time with her before the baby arrives (76 days to go Wink)

Re: 24th April? I'll try and get the message to the baby somehow that this shall be the day then, so long as its not the week before because I dont want to share my day with anyone

This weekend, MIL is having her for the weekend. DH has told me that we are going to the cinema on Friday night, he's booked us a table at a restaurant in the Mailbox on Saturday and we're trying to get tickets for a Comedy Gig for Sunday, so didnt really want to argue with him Grin

Fliss my dental surgery sent me a text saying that I need to go in and see them as its been a while, eek! I might have just deleted it and pretended I never saw it

Talking of teeth, does anyone else have trouble brushing DD/DS's teeth? Amaya will happily take the toothbrush and "brush" them ie do the movements and suck the toothpaste off but she wont let me actually get near her teeth. They're still white somehow but Im scared they'll bloody fall out!

Flisspaps · 07/02/2012 11:54

RubyLovesMayMay I'm only really going now because it's free. If I was paying for the pleasure of this then I wouldn't go, which probably goes a long way to explain why my teeth are in such a mess. I have a fear of DD's teeth ending up like mine, but yes, I find cleaning her teeth quite a challenge. She will usually let me do it (not DH) but not without sobbing and screaming through it. I had taken to using my electric toothbrush because it was much quicker and even when she bit down on the 'arm' of the brush it would still be cleaning her teeth rather than me having to fight with a manual brush, but DH is convinced I will do her untold damage so have reluctantly gone back to scrubbing with her toothbrush. Have tried asking to see the animals (someone mentioned it on a different thread), letting her help, letting her do our teeth, doing our teeth first...nothing works without me holding her hands with one hand and scrubbing quickly with the other :(

21st April is also a nice day for a baby Wink 22nd is OK, as that's MIL and 17 is my DSis. (Not 20th though, tell the baby not 20th April as that is Adolf Hitler's birthday)

RubyLovesMayMay · 07/02/2012 13:02

April's a busy month isnt it?

Im the 17th, Hitler's 20th, Cousin's 21st, MIL's 23rd, Im due 24th and SIL's 26th, theres no room for error! Smile

Frigg knows what I'm going to do for my birthday though Confused

Glad its not just me then, its cute watching her walk around shaking the toothbrush whilst its in her mouth but when it acutally comes down to business, she'll have none of it.
DH is probably a little better with her at that so I'll push him to persevere with it a little longer.

Flisspaps · 07/02/2012 13:30

That's not including SILs birthday on the 1st, GMIL on 13th or DM and DS's anniversary on 16th. As if April wasn't busy enough (I see you have the same busy month as me!)

I am hoping that this one has made an appearance before my birthday (depending on which dates you believe my birthday will make it either 17 or 7 days late) as I would rather like two glasses of something alcoholic rather than just the one which I will otherwise be permitted by the Alcohol Police Wink

DH had his interview this morning, and is now on his way home. Fingers crossed that he gets it, then the redundancy axe won't be swinging our way again this year. However, if he does get it then it's an April start - which means he won't be entitled to any paid paternity leave (different LA) so if baby is as late as DD (or comes on the EDD I think is right) then he won't get any time at home without. If it comes on their EDD at least he'll be home for the Easter holiday anyway. Swings and roundabouts innit?

RubyLovesMayMay · 07/02/2012 14:13

That'll be so bittersweet for you. Fingers crossed for you and DH.

I'd love a glass of Amaretto and Cranberry Juice, just the one, Im not greedy. Im a lightweight not much of a drinker but I just REALLY REALLY want one.

Im feeling a lot more anxious about when Im going to go into labour, not the labour itself though . When I start my mat leave Amaya will only be in nursery 2 or 3 days a week (as thats all we'll be able to afford) and as DH will be at work, Im worried about it just being the two of us when it happens.

It'd be lovely if I just went into labour on a Saturday night like I did with DD but thats just wishful thinking. Trying not to focus on it too much but its in the back of my mind.

Flisspaps · 07/02/2012 16:43

Didn't get it. On the plus side, that means that Paternity Leave is still a goer!

SiameseIfYouPlease · 07/02/2012 17:04

I'm sorry fliss about that. Hooray for paternity leave though.

ruby did you labour very quickly last time?

Trying not to mental too much here, on second 2ww of the year..

MissPenteuth · 07/02/2012 17:25

Sorry about DH's job Fliss, but good news on the paternity leave front.

Fingers crossed for you Siamese :)

RubyLovesMayMay · 07/02/2012 18:38

Fliss every cloud though, eh?

Siamese I went to the hospital at 9pm and had her at 3:14am . I didn't think it was long (is that long?) Seemed quick to me.

(What does 2ww mean? Blush)

MandaHugNKiss · 07/02/2012 19:32

2ww is two week wait... the time between your ovulation and period when you're ttc.

So, siamese is trying to make another kitten, eh? Or have I got my wires crossed again?!

I'm going to Chez Bruce for dinner tomorrow - anyone have any experience of this supposed gem in SW London? The Glasshouse (its sister restaurant) is a five minute drive from me but somehow knowledge of the original place escaped me until now!

Now, how to get rid of this cold, glam up and find something to wear that fits before tomorrow...
