One month carrie!!! Smile

I'm on a mission to make sure DS's new school are all geared up for his allergies come Sept. So far I'm not convinced, am off to call them to check a few more things Confused.

Debs75 · 18/07/2011 15:09

1 month to go! Wow. Take it easy and have some rest.
No get your bag packed then take it easy. I like to be organised and was so mad that I didn't get chance with Lucy being early. With Robyn I had packed and re-packed my bag about 5 times.

Robyn told me today that she couldn't come downstairs as she didn't have a pirate ship. That girl is pirate and fireman mad atm and comes out with crackers like that everyday.

eandz · 18/07/2011 19:27

congratulations hopefully!

Kagey · 19/07/2011 12:39

Congratulations NC and Hopefully.

Potty training is on day 6 at the moment and going quite well. DD1 has had a few accidents when we have been out but I guess a nearly 3 year old is not going to say she needs a wee when she is playing in the swing park. She is at nursery today, so fingers crossed she is not too distracted to need a wee there either. She has plenty of spare knickers and shorts though just in case.

One thing though, is that she seems to be holding poos until her bedtime nappy is on - did anyone else's DC do this? She did a couple of poos on the potty but does seem to prefer doing it in nappies instead.

DD2 is now at the lovely smiley all the time stage and we have day of cuddles and playing planned until we have to pick up DD1.

Debs75 · 19/07/2011 16:01

Those who are potty training how long was it before you ventured out and about?
Robyn wears knickers to nursery and on the way to swimming today but I'm not sure about longer trips, especially the car. Inside she can go 3-4 hours without a wee or she can do 1 every 20 mins. I don't fancy traipsing around with her potty but I'm not sure how long she can hold it after she has told me she wants to go

CappuccinoCarrie · 19/07/2011 18:50

kagey my DD held onto her poos til she had a nappy on for months. The stage does pass! Even now (age 4.3) she'll hold on til bedtime and take herself to the toilet in her own sweet time.
debs the GF way is to plan small local trips to friends houses to get the idea of needing a wee somewhere other than home, and to sit them on a towel in their carseats just in case.
Have broken it to DH that the third attempt at potty training DS will be his special job when he's on paternity leave and DD has started school Grin. Irritatingly I know it'll go really well...!!!

notcitrus · 19/07/2011 21:25

Just done day 2 of second potty training attempt with A.
He was quite good on day 1, even got one wee in the toilet at nursery, but not so good today. Suspect he hopes that if he's stubborn enough we'll give up again - but his desire to keep nice fluffy nappies thank you is almost balanced by his desire to get a sticker each day to count towards him getting a scooter. Add a chocolate button or three for anything actually in the potty/toilet and it might work, especially as right now he's the only toddler at nursery not potty trained, but in Sept a group of young kids will arrive.

We shall see... I predict tantrums tomorrow (home day)

FannyPriceless · 20/07/2011 10:06

DD still does the holding on to the poo thing. She's totally cracked the wee thing though (we started about about 3 weeks ago and she got it straight away).

I do have to traipse around with a potty though. We tried the Potette fold up one but she refuses to sit on the plastic bag thing. So I had to buy a spare full size potty, which is a serious pain to carry.

Essential though - yesterday in Clarks she announced she wanted to do a wee so I alerted the staff who, bless them, ushered us out to the staff loo (potty in hand) while one of them watched DS. I would love for her to now learn to sit on a loo seat thingy but she is so small that I understand her genuine fear of falling in! Perhaps I need to shop around to find one that feels more secure for the smaller-bottomed child.

DebiTheScot · 20/07/2011 11:56

Does anyone else think children are getting later at becoming toilet trained? DS1 wasn't out of nappies until just past 3 and I felt he was unusual, especially speaking to parents of older children who all claimed they were in pants by 2 1/2ish. I know there's a few successfully trained children on this thread but there also seems to be quite a lot who aren't.
I'm contemplating being more proactive with ds2 than I was with ds1 as it seems silly to not use the summer holidays as a good opportunity. But then we're driving to Cornwall and the west coast of Scotland and I don't fancy having to stop every 10 minutes to pee.

TwoAndaHalfNeurons · 20/07/2011 13:11

bookmarking potty-training feeding stalking!

Lollyheart · 20/07/2011 14:02

debi my niece is only just dry during the day, she will be 4 next month, my sister only pushed her to do it because of starting school in sept.

Debs75 · 20/07/2011 14:18

FP I got Robyn a toilet seat from Home Bargains which looks pretty comfy and more secure for small bums. It is like a western saddle with a hole in the middle and has handles as well.

We are doing well with poos and she is getting better at times between wees. It is her reluctance to sit on toilets which will hinder us.

Debi My dsis's kids were both potty trained at 2.6 and there is 13 years between them

notcitrus · 20/07/2011 15:34

Well A has been pretty good today, two wees and an enormous poo in the potty. Admittedly I saw he was about to poo and carted him upstairs to do it, but he was dead chuffed. Until a minute later when he weed in a forward direction. All our potties and toilet seat seem too small for him - and his willy keeps pointing upwards! Any tips, parents of boys? He keeps plaintively complaining 'my willy is getting longer' which I try to assure him is a good thing...
Five accidents. He's got a nappy for napping because I want the benefit of his full long nap! And then we need to buy more pants...

The time between him realising he's going to wee and actually doing it is about nil - is that to be expected at this stage?

Still, he is at least engaging with the idea and not being upset by it this time round, just hacked off.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/07/2011 16:09

I can recommend the baby Bjorn toilet seat and potty (the one that looks like a chair). They're expensive but worth it IMO. They're stable and the hole is big enough (I know exactly what you mean nc).

Can't believe your 36 weeks already Carrie, how exciting! I remember getting the fear and hitting the wall at 36 weeks, but then felt better about things from 38 weeks and onwards.

Mind you, the fear has returned about the upcoming holidays. I will be parenting both boys for six weeks!!!! Needless to say I'm filling up the diary with play dates!

NC Grin at A worrying about the length of his willy, too long too short, they are never happy are they.

notcitrus · 21/07/2011 20:39

Thank you meglet - gave me a good laugh!

First MW appt tomorrow.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 21/07/2011 20:59

Popping in to say hello.

Had 2nd 20wk scan today cos they couldn't see everything at the first one. They saw everything else except the spine as the baby wouldn't move. I ended up being sent over to antenatal to have a chat with a midwife who said she couldn't authorise another scan - to do that I had to see a consultant (WTF??). but anyway, she was not at all concerned, so i agreed to briing my next consultant appt forward.
Tbh, I'm not worried and I ended up having a lovely chat about birth and homebirth. Apparently my community mw is very supportive of hb, so I'm chuffed.

I'm meeting my doula on Monday, so fingers crossed.

Oh (and keep it to yourself, specially on fb as we're keeping it secret) but we're having a boy!! The sonographer was as sure as she could be but it looked like a willy to her!
Not sure what C will say as she wants a sister but I'm hoping I'll convince her we really are Peppa Pig and her family Grin
I'm pleased (I'd expected another girl cos DP's produced 2 girls so far) but I'm a bit wistful about all the lovely dresses I've saved. I'm also kacking it a bit cos I have no clue how to deal with boys. At least we'll only have one extra lot of tampons to buy and one set of bras!

I'm soooooooo not arsed about work atm. I've been told I have to attend a full days meeting in London when I'm 35wks, which means a 15 hr day for me with travel. I may use the fact it's a high risk pg to get the consultant to ban me from going :)

Meglet · 21/07/2011 21:03

Congrats MrsA!

Lollyheart · 21/07/2011 22:04

Congratulations mrsA boys are fab Smile

Oh Carrie is next to find out Smile

8 more weeks until my turn, i can't wait to find out what is kicking inside me.Smile

How exciting nc first appointment already Smile

DebiTheScot · 21/07/2011 23:08

Congrats MrsA, boys are great Grin

I've just melted my debit card! £3600 on flights to New Zealand for next Easter Shock Smile We've always wanted to go and got some inheritance money about a year ago and have friends out there (who might not stay there forever) so decided to go for it while they are there as otherwise with accomodation too we would never have been able to do it. Very exciting and a bit scary!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/07/2011 09:38

Congratulations MrsA, boys rock, but then I may be a teensy bit bias!

Sounds like it's going to be a great holiday Debi, I am very envious, but also very chuffed for you. I think Fanny is a kiwi isn't she?

Good luck at the mw's NC, it now starts to become a little bit real doesn't it?!

I'm an auntie again Grin

My brother had a baby boy thismorning Smile his first boy after having 3 girls and someone to carry on his surnameSmile

notcitrus · 22/07/2011 15:45

Congratulations MrsA!
I remember feeling a bit sad I wasn't getting a girl but A has been so lovely! As are his friends.

MW appt went ok - she was lovely. Got a bit tearful when we had to talk about A in the neonatal unit, especially as she said they couldn't look for a heartbeat. But said I can go get a scan any day, so may go tomorrow morning to put my mind at rest.

A seems to have adjusted to the idea that nappies are only for nap (he naps for 2-3 hours at home and I don't want to jeopardise that!!) and night time. Whether he's adjusted to the idea of therefore weeing in appropriate places remains to be seen... but I have hopes that the promise of an ORANGE scooter will help. :)

CappuccinoCarrie · 22/07/2011 20:48

debi that is going to be the holiday of a lifetime, wow!!

Congrats lolly on your auntyhood, cheers Wine!

NC hope the scan does put your mind at rest, and well done A on potty training!

mrsA congrats on the boy! Just last night I started reading Raising Boys on the recommendation of a friend, very interesting especially as I have an older DD who's always been one step ahead developmentally, and then my gorgeous DS who is interested in such different things, and such a different character. I find it so tempting to compare them, so its really interesting to learn about how and why boys are different and how to nurture and work with those differences to bring out the very best in them rather than just think 'DD wasn't like that!'

Yesterday I took DD to the docs about the fact that she still wees in her pants every day (ok so not one step ahead in every area Wink) as she's starting school in Sept. The doc was so helpful and checked her against other neurological milestones but basically wasn't worried. She did however ask us to provide a urine sample which we did today, and it turns out DD has a water infection! She can't have had it for the last 2 1/2 years (can she?!) but has been complaining of tummy ache this week and waking overnight - I had put it down to emotions of ending pre-school, but it turns out there was something more to it and its sheer co-incidence that we went to the docs when we did, I dread to think how long it would have been before I'd believed there was something actually wrong!

DS is still sleeping for England, trying not to be concerned about that...!
