Or maybe piddling whilst giggling is just me? Blush
It's so sunny here I feel Spring has sprung - where's that daffodil emoticon gone? Had a friend round this morning for a natter and cake - muchos snot and tears but all good. Think I might go for a little bike ride now to blow the cobwebs away.
And no vag - not a chance!
rubs don't you dare spend all your time tweeting - your first loyalty is here!

DB I didn't want to sound like I was senationalising on your thread but the biggest reason I would be horrified if one of my two did it, is because I would be worried that someone had done something similar to them.

DH & I are going to get a takeaway tonight and watch eurovision on catch up as we were away on Satu

My ankle still hurts but I definitely think the swelling is going down.

EffiePerine · 16/05/2011 19:23

That was my first thought too, Vag. If one of mine had done that, and DH had laughed up off, I would have been incandescent as well as incredibly worried.

DeidreBarlow · 16/05/2011 19:29

Vag, the thought had crossed my mind, which is awful really but there it is.

Rubena · 16/05/2011 20:38

Beans, phew for the baby wipes. They are brilliant things aren't they. I use them to remove makeup and to get food spills stains off me Blush when I'm out and I was suddenly lost without them when we went away without the kids!

Good girl Jam and good dedication! I still haven't started my running Blush and doubt I will now that Vag has a twisted ankle (any excuse) and vag, dh gives the nod of approval for you ditching the running! Hope it gets better fast......
Back in a bit - dinner ready.....

Rubena · 16/05/2011 21:20

Crikey Deids, have just read your thread. SIL needs to take it a bit more seriously IMO. You are not being unreasonable. I'd be the same.

Rubena · 16/05/2011 21:24

DD still been waking at around 3am since returning from trip away. She only has a tiny bit of milk (an ounce or so) and goes back to sleep. I have today, after nearly 10 months, enforced a routine of sorts on DD Blush and she has eaten the most she's ever eaten Blush
Blackout blinds up, kiddies have full tummies. Wish me luck. Will report back.
geez overmumsnetting or what.....

Beans33 · 16/05/2011 21:36

Rubes, have you tried settling DD without giving her milk? If she doesn't get it, she might not wake for it? That's what I found with both DDs. Although 2 still wakes but b/c she rolls onto her front or sits up.
DH addicted to property porn. Can't get him off computer! Hence short post. Glad I am now a legend. V glad I told you lot. Can't really tell anyone else!!!
Off to bed soon. Marvellous.
Deids, are you ok? It's all a bit of a worry.

LadyThompson · 16/05/2011 21:53

Yes, Vag, sorry to hear about the ankle. Sounds nasty. I know you can't be fagged but I think if it hangs around you OUGHT to get it x-rayed

I was running and bouncing on my mini trampoline the other day (I am not much of a runner usually, but could quite get to like doing this) and I did think of your DH, Rubes, and wonder whether running or bouncing on a trampoline is ok for the joints...If you get a spare moment perhaps you could ask him? The pics from the wedding are absolutely stunning, by the way...I mentioned to DP about your DH doing his fellowship next year and he reminded me of a friend of his who did her fellowship exams five times (not that this will happen to your DH!) Poor girl, she kept getting herself in a massive state about them and couldn't perform. The fifth time she forgot to write her name on the paper, but she passed that one. Different discipline to your DH though, genito-urinary. I don't think looking at endless willies would really do much for my sex life, I have to say (but she has four kids so clearly she can separate work and home Grin)

Anyway, I digress! Beans, I can't believe your cheek in pooing in a garden of a house you were viewing Grin Though I suppose it was better than the alternative. Oh, DD1 can't jump. She tries and it is very funny, she sort of pops on to her tiptoes...

Urbs, am so massively pleased about latest scan. Also about SIL and new niece. I too love my giant bed but we are meanies and don't let the smalls in it Grin Though they both have their morning milk in it with me, and then we have stories.

DB, I have posted on your thread. Apart from this incident, is your DN a nice, happy little boy?

Trudy, the modelling sounds quite a nice way to earn a bob or two. You must be good at keeping still! I wouldn;t mind doing it but I am a fidget bum!

Glad you had a peaceful haircut, JJ. It's things like that that make you feel more human, somehow.

Nolda - canoes? Gosh, you really live the outdoor life! I am impressed!

Sybs, I am concerned you aren't looking after yourself. A yoghurt and tin of tuna in a whole day?

Oh, and ZJ, I hope you are feeling so much better now. I was told after being quite ill after being in Sri Lanka that if you have a delicate bum you should wipe with cotton wool and not loo paper. I wonder if putting that down the loo is considered dodgy nowadays.

What was the plumbing prob, Effie?

Well, we are supposed to be watching a film but I am finding it too boring. It's a musical called Nine with tons of stars in, and it looks absolutely gorgeous but the script/plot etc is wafer thin.

Ah, Rubes, you asked about the housewarming party Grin Everything's slowed down again cos DP is stressed with work. So I dunno. It's all a bit of a pain, tbh. The mythical money from HMRC is reputedly hitting my bank on Wednesday. We shall see.

vagolaJahooli · 16/05/2011 21:57

Rubes to be fair the original sprain that probably weakened my ankle was as musical accident. I was originally a bit Shock when I read your first post as I thought you said DH gave me a 'rod' of approval, wasn't sure what to expect.

LadyThompson · 16/05/2011 22:01

A bit random, but I had black pepper on my strawberries tonight as I once read it was a great combination. I thought it was lovely. They smelled extra amazing. DP was less convinced, but I might have them like that forever.

vagolaJahooli · 16/05/2011 22:12

Will try that with our next batch of strawbs Lady.

TheInvisibleHand · 16/05/2011 22:28

Hello all. Just realised a whole thread is going to pass by without posting so I figured it was time to join in again. Been following you all, just too brain dead to post.

In awe of all the potty training talk. No way am trying DS yet (although DD was fully out of nappies long before). I think he actually gets more babied than DD - somehow I find myself expecting more of her as the "grown up" one, which seems terribly unfair.

DB and Vag - rotten sounding accidents (very intrigued by a "musical" accident though).

Arti - I guess you've had everyone's tuppenceworth on working parenthood. I think a big part of it is having whatever it is seem normal to the DCs and then they pretty much accept it. My DCs do sometimes do the whole "I want you to stay mummy" thing, but they will also sometimes sternly pack me off to work in the morn. Practically, it may help to capture their imagination with a sense of what it is you do at work and how it is a "good thing" for society as a whole - I kind of explain how I help make sure people aren't "naughty" which is pretty simplistic, but might let a 2/3 yr old get the gist of the fact that hopefully its vaguely worthwhile. Both of mine have been to the office (just once or twice) but I think being able to picture where I am, colleagues are etc helps.

Kiwi - saw your FB status - glad something is going right again in your world.

Beans - mad and hilarious is all I can say!

DB - read your thread and not much to add. Sounds like you have behaved perfectly and your instincts are spot on. Poor DN though.

LadyT - will have to try the strawberries and pepper thing - have read that before, but never given it a whirl. Fingers crossed for the bank transfer on Weds.

No great excitements over here, just the usual. Did have a random work trip to Paris a week or two ago - all I can say is that Paris springtime looked lovely from the cab window. Two week holiday to Cornwall coming up in a couple of weeks though and I can't wait..

DS has irritatingly decided that he quite likes our bed thank you very much. So over the last couple of weeks, he shows up, regular as clock work around 2am and sneaks into our bed. Which I wouldn't mind too much, except that he then does his best to kick us out of it. We have a huge bed and even when DH was away a few nights ago Mr J decided sleeping horizontally across would work best. I know I need to nip this in the bud for the sake of our long term sanity, but I can't quite face provoking 2am meltdowns.

Rubena · 16/05/2011 22:32

Bugger me - post gone computer crashed.... Angry

Yes lady have heard about FRCS exams - doesn't sound pretty. has to be a nag free zone here Grin I was around for the last big exams and he was convinced not going to pass (did) but we gave a couple of guys a lift home who didn't and it was awful. Apparently these ones are much harder and only a 30% pass rate Shock
RE the tramp I asked dh and I quote " it is fine for the joints however I don't recommend it, as it carries high risk of looking like a tool" he went on to say "if it must be done, should only be done in private" Grin
I think Beans' alfresco crap was in the field next door not the garden - still just as funny! Hmm

Beans, yes I tried giving her water and also just settling her by patting and shooshing etc. screamed the house down. However it was ages ago so will try again tonight. She has had all her milks today (more than needed) and 4 solid meals plus half a yoghurt!!! This is unheard of, so we shall see... She has just woken now (which is early) and DH fed her and she left 2 oz which can't mean we are off to a good start. bet she will wake at 3am with a big poo. I shall ignore it as nappy changing at 3am will wake her properly Blush Wish me luck. Full update tom.

Musical accident Vag? Did you trip over ds's violin or did you mean muscular? Rod of approval - lol. Are you pregnant Vag? Grin

vagolaJahooli · 16/05/2011 23:12

Mmmm...did I not tell you ladies how I sprained my ankle last year...well its fair enough it was a little embarrassing. I was going into settle DS2 who had woken. At that stage he was still in the cot off the side of our bed and the way our bed was arranged in our old house it was easier to just walk off the end of the bed when heading back downstairs. Which I did but I stepped off our bed at speed onto the boys Ukelele which for some reason DS2 had insisted on bringing upstairs to the bedroom. As I went down on it full flight the ukelele slipped under me, the foot which stepped in it crumpled under me and my full weight came down on my ankle. Very load and very painful. It's not really been the same since, always hurts just after a run and always feels a bit stiff in the morning. It has improved with running on the beach but after this latest sprain I think that is the only running I will be doing.

LadyThompson · 16/05/2011 23:14

Good to hear from you, Invis. But v glad to hear you've got a break coming up. Wanted to mention a couple of books but will do that later when not posting on phone.

Rubes, your DH is not wrong about looking like a tool. More so when bouncing to Caribbean Queen by Billy Ocean, and tunes of that cheesy ilk. Put it this way, the blinds were down and I even waited until DD1's nap. One glimpse of me clad in a sports bra plus pyjama shorts bouncing to hits of the 1980s could give her psychological problems.

Rubena · 16/05/2011 23:26

PMSL Lady!!! GrinGrinGrin
dh says he doesn't blame you, as dd1 would tell everyone! GrinGrin

LadyThompson · 16/05/2011 23:37

Right again Grin Grin

DeidreBarlow · 17/05/2011 07:16

Lady GrinGrin. Can you all quit with the funny tales it hurts my mouth too much when I laugh!

One good thing about my mouth is I can't reallyeat, sohopefully I might lose a couple of lb's. Although its not recommended as a weight loss technique.

Vag, kids toys cause lots of accidents. I once fell downstairs after slipping on DD's Tinkerbell dress - damn that bloody fairy!

Rubes I'd forgotten to say how totally amazing youlook on your FB pics.

Thanks all for your input on the other thread. DN has always been a mischevious little boy, but seems happy enough. I've told SIL and there is no way there are playing alone anymore.

EffiePerine · 17/05/2011 07:28

Lady: plumbing is long and involved disaster area involving a slow leak, plumbing converted on the cheap (metric pipework botched onto imperial) and a decent plumber trapped in our airing cupboard between 9am and 8pm yesterday. He has finally replaced the hot water cylinder and found the original leak, but can't get at it without knocking a hole in the wall which is today's job. And someone decided to build a brick wall in front of the main water tank in the loft. No water for most of yesterday and no hot water today slurps coffee

Thank goodness we didn't buy this house!

Artichokes · 17/05/2011 08:20

Am loving the image of LadyT's clandestine exercise antics. Too funny.

And lovely to hear from Invis. Thanks for the words of advice re work. Funnily enough just last night I was explaining my job to DD1. She gets that DH and I work in the place where laws are made and that laws say what people can and can't do and how much of their money people have to give the Queen. Not sure if that description persuades her that it's all worthwhile! DD2 tell everyone daddy works in the House of Comics!

Veg - do be careful with your ankle. I badly sprained mine when I was 23 and didn't get an X-ray. In retrospect I probably had a hair line fracture because 9 months later I fell off the pavement (may have been a little tipsy) and suffered a massive spiral fracture that required pin and plates to fix. Come to think of it I have the perfect excuse to explain why I never run (obv nothing to do with being bone idle).

Beans - you have tempted me into sharing my poo while house hunting story. Never thought I'd share this with anyone. Eight years ago when DH and I were looking for our first house I felt a massive urge to go while viewing a gorgeous little cottage. DH implored me to wait but it was impossible. I told the agent I needed to use the bathroom. I really hoped to be quick so he wld assume it was a wee. Sadly it was a huge log that took HOURS and poor DH was left for an eternity making small talk with an increasingly stressed agent. When I was finally done I found the cottage plumbing couldn't cope with such a significant deposit and it would flush. We never , ever viewed with that Agency again which was a shame as they had some of the best houses in the neighbourhood.

Beans33 · 17/05/2011 08:56

HAHAHAHA! Arti, that is class! I love it! Sometimes, you've just got to go eh? Oh my God, I am laughing and it really really hurts. That's just the sort of thing I do. And they always smell worse when you know you shouldn't go! The one I did in another house we looked round, the owner was showing us round and she was clearly very houseproud. The loo was in a room that had been built onto in the past and so it didn't have any external windows, only one that looked onto the staircase. The smell. Oh god! It was mortifying. Luckily mine are always quick, but there's no disguising that I've done a biggie!

Pubes - how was last night with DD?

Lady - brilliant. I can just imagine you leaping away to "I think we're alone now" by Tiffany and "Footloose". I am rather envious.

Vag - did the ukelele suddenly pipe up a few broken notes as you stepped on it??!

I have a question for Rubes's husband, or Vag... I seem to have pulled a muscle in my ribs somewhere (think they're called intecostal or something). It hurts me to breathe deeply, eat, lie down, stand up, pick up children, walk, move - basically everything. Laughing too - hence my pain at Arti's brilliant poo story! Any tips? I've taken Ibuprofen this morning and it is easing off a bit, but that might just be because I'm sitting still at computer. Thankfully DD1 at nursery today, as not sure I could manage both of them! DD2 happily sitting behind me eating wax crayons. Is that bad???!

Rubena · 17/05/2011 09:23

Oh dear, priceless Arti! I almost feel compelled to tell my London no toilet story but it is a bit of a bad parenting display and only a wee not a poo so not nearly as entertaining.
Beans I have emailed your paragraph to DH. Standby....
Oh he just replied - gotta post this now as ds demanding..... here's reply...

Ibuprofen 400mg tds regularly (as long as no GI symptoms or no history of asthma). And give it time. Can't rest that muscle as if you do ---> asphyxia. Stretching by bending away from affected side whilst holding deep breath sometimes helps.

back in a min....

Rubena · 17/05/2011 09:28

oh, left a bit off his email!!! will re copy / paste! (lol his disclaimer!)

Beans the intercostal muscles are the muscles between your ribs. That would be very painful if you have hurt one of those. MrPubie may have some advice I'm treatment, all I can think of is resting it as much as is possible but every now & again try to take a big deep breathe as much as you can. Do you know how you might have done it.

I can walk, albeit painfully on my ankle so I think its ok. I do have a high pain threshold but I'm sure it would hurt more if it was broken. It is still really swollen, my whole foot is puffynow and the bruising has come to the surface.

Lady PJ bottoms, no I'm imagining you in a hot pink leotard, leopard skin tights and flouro yellow sweat bands.

vagolaJahooli · 17/05/2011 09:29

Oh there you go, MrPubie has spoken.
