Weve been using regular baby toothpaste - tellytubby flavour _ for about 6 weeks with no probs. it doesn't taste of toothpaste of course. anyway, in the style of mothers who drink whilst bfing, going out before they hit 18 and so forth - don't worry about brushing them, the fruitshoots will make them fall out and he'll grow new ones.

muser don't diminish your achievements. You took bob on a plane to Scotland on your own and took care of your sick father and enormodog. Many at that stage are going to pieces nipping to Tesco.

Happy Mothers' Day, you Evil Selfish Hags!

I have been alone with my daughter, no husband and no dog, since Friday, hence minimal online contact. It's been quite nice really. They are due back later today. Squeaks's gift to me is that of learning to climb - EVERYTHING!

She is now doing pretty much everything bar walking unaided. Yesterday I left her on the floor of the livingroom and came back five minutes later to find her lying on the sofa, remote control in hand. I kid you not! The Bumbo was suspiciously near the edge of the sofa. And last night she tried to climb out of the bath, after flipping on to her belly and then up on to her knees surfer stylee. She is currently climbing my leg in an attempt to get the laptop. In fact, the safest place to leave her at the moment is not on the floor or bed/sofa but standing at the edge of one of the above, cruising around it.

cunty, despite the lack of teeth, I decided to start getting Squeaks used to gum brushing last week. Mainly because of what she has been eating. I bought a first stage toothbrush from Tesco and dug out the tube of Milk Teeth I got in one of the many pregnancy freebies packs. She wasn't too bothered, but did decide to take control of the brush.

Thansk for all the lovely tales of lochia, shit and boak. I feel lucky that the worst Squeaks did this week was project a milk feed all the way down the back of my nice woollen jumper after a hard coughing fit.

We are both coughing now. Just what I need for going back to work.

Welcome back alps. So sorry again for the meet fail last week.

I'm very impressed by how in control and active all the more recent FESH arrivals are. I think it's definitely the way forward - get out and about while they are little, because they become real PITAs as they get older Grin

I have been keeping an eye out for Medee news. I think cass's words on PESH are bang on. It brings out the lioness in us all. I found myself shedding a tear at the latest update. Poor wee family. But soon this will all be a distant memory and she too will have a little monkey keeping her on her toes.

silv try not to stress too much over weaning. Yes, always be prepared with two spoons. (and a third and fourth for when the first two end up on the floor/in the dog). Remember that even if he's not keen on one thing, it doesn't mean it's not working. My little madam is not keen on the weaning standards carrot and banana. But at six months she was stealing and sucking away on roast parsnips and french fries. Pears are really handy. I can't stand them myself, but a ripe one can be pureed in seconds with a fork and they go down well here.

right, I have a million things to do before returning to the real world tomorrow so I'm off to drink tea.

CUNextTuesday · 03/04/2011 08:57

Oo good luck for your return to work casp. Remember you can get away with quite a lot for quite some time by blaming your fleece-brain Grin

I've been violated - is that the same thing?

My girl knows what to buy for Mothers Day. No cheesy compilation CDs, it's all about the bling. One very gorgeous necklace. I'm impressed with her shopping abilities. And no it's not an Elizabeth Duke Bestest Mummy one. Maybe next year. Grin

AlpinePony · 03/04/2011 11:45

It's not Mother's Day here although I've got a fridge full of chocolate, good coffee, a mug and have been to the stables. Mother's Day here will be in May and if I don't get a fucking helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon there will be tears.

Bear wouldn't go down well last night, next thing I knew it was 8am and I was alone in bed and they'd been downstairs all night screaming. I must've been verrrrry pooped!

Curly Not to worry, we'll figure something out later in the year and as I said to fanny it probably wasn't the best meeting place as the roads to get there are horrible (my dad drove as I was knackered) - so although the closest geographically it might've made more sense to fly further. In the end I was within spitting distance of boo, boxy and kate - in fact I passed by boo's at lunchtime and should've rung, never mind!

As I suspected Bear was figuring out all the crawling stuff in his head over the last few weeks but with visiting all the grannies never got a chance to try as he was permanently cuddled! Grin

We now have a mover & shaker so I will spend the next few days worrying about what we can do to protect him. Obviously he smashed his head off of a metal clasp on the coffee table this morning - the one bit of the table we can't stick a corner-protector on.

Yesterday he fucked his face off his "fill the cookie jar shapes thing" which resulted in a split lip and he has a bruise on his cheek. As it's his first falling over accident in 9 months I figure it's just one of those "life" things. All find and dandy except we're off to the health visitor tomorrow and will no doubt be put on the social services register! Wink

silv A dash of cow's milk is absolutely fine - as someone else said, it should'be be the basis of their dietary intake until 12 months (i.e., milk feeds can be cow's milk then) - but it's fine. Baby porridge and rice tastes of soggy cardboard - no wonder he's not interested. Get him a happy meal jar of something more interesting. I was in Tesco last week and got strawberry cheesecake and chocolate pudding for when I can't be arsed to do something homemade - both suitable from 4 months. I was told this end just pureed fruit & veg from 4 months and getting more adventurous at 5 months. I'm sure he'll get more in to it once the flavours improve. There's a reason women don't stick to slimfast! Wink

Happy Mother's day FESHes :)

MadameBoo · 03/04/2011 13:43

You were near to my house Alpy? On which day? Gah to a near miss.

AlpinePony · 03/04/2011 15:02

hiya boo, it was the Thursday - I came from my way down to Cirencester so within spitting distance of you.

FannyPriceless · 03/04/2011 15:27

alps I can beat that. I actually gave Clyde a split lip last week and it bled copiously. I was simply trying to put his top on and his face clashed with my thumb. I thought nothing of it until I saw the blood and the split in his little bottom lip.Sad

And I was waiting for the ss sirens anyway as Bonnie has been sporting a massive multicoloured bruise on her cheek bone like she was hit in the face with something hard. I can only guess that it was the night she fell out of bed and really wailed. Nothing seemed to be wrong at the time so I figured it was merely a scary dream and the shock of landing on the floor. In the morning the bruise started to appear so she must have landed seriously hard on something like maybe the corner of her bookcase - who knows but it looked dreadful for over a week.Blush Poor mite.

By the way, is your cookie jar the one that sings in an annoying american accent with a little giggle at the end? That thing does my head in.

Yes, I got my scrambled aggs and smoked salmon this morning without much prompting. Maybe next year he'll actually buy the ingredients himself and surprise me.Hmm I've been waiting for the flowers... any flowers will do... We have a garden full of floowers you moron!! It's not that hard!!Angry

Clyde is still quite sick and just not himself. I'm thinking of taking him back to the doctor but not sure if I'm just worrying too much. He cries and cries and won't be consoled, refuses half his food, then has a massive vomit and falls asleep. Repeat when he wakes up. That's not good, is it? It seems like more than teething to me but he has no temperature.

Oh no, just woken up.Sad

AlpinePony · 03/04/2011 16:25

fanny Sounds like it! Yummy. Mmmmn. he heh he he heh. Heart I love cookies! shapes are in my cookie jar triangle, heart and star, there's a circle over there here's a square?

Bear's just had sausage, egg & beans. Big boy now!

Casserole · 03/04/2011 17:17

Forgive me for not knowing, FAnny - how old is Clyde? Is he drinking anything? Not sure if "food" means milk or actual food in his case.

AlpinePony · 03/04/2011 19:29

Who stole my baybee? Shock He's been upstairs screaming his head off for 90 minutes. PUPD, lying next to him etc. has not worked. I once saw a topic entitled "Don't we all use controlled crying in the end?". Confused

CluckyKate · 03/04/2011 20:35

Calpol Alps?

That cookie jar is a toybox staple - everyone has one, no? As is the hello puppy baby walker....bloody annoying songs on that one too. Vtech have a lot to answer for with their noisy toys - presumably the factory location is top secret or someone would've dropped a bomb on it by now.

2 quid bunch of co-op roses and box of the cheapy Thorntons for me. Also had a roast at nearby pub - was delish - and the boy slept the whole time. Top banana. Lunch was followed by 2 1/2 hr ride with the lovely Boxer - jumping log piles & charging around the countryside....brilliant but boy do I ache.

Backinthebox · 03/04/2011 20:44

I HATE that sodding cookie jar! Maybe Bear just realised how annoying it was and was trying to give it a Glasgow kiss?

Fab ride today with Cluck - way better than OH's effort for Mother's Day - a dash at 11am to the Spar for whatever card they had left. It's not as though Mother's Day was a surprise to him Hmm

Anyway - got to sort out my Dad. His travel company went bust and he's just found out when the checkin desk didn't exist at the airport.

Muser · 03/04/2011 21:04

Ok. I need bottle advice. We tried the medela calma and she hated it. Tried a Mam and it's too fast for her so she screamed. What do I try next?

FannyPriceless · 03/04/2011 21:24

Yes, it's that cookie jar. Heinous thing.

cass Clyde is nearly 10 months old. He is usually a fairly no nonsense sturdy lad but this miserable thing is really dragging on. On a daily basis he is generally keeping down enough food / water / milk to prevent me worrying, and he still has dirty and wet nappies. But the last couple of days have just been horrible for him - writhing constantly and no smiles or playing.Sad

cluck and box V Envy of your ride!

muse Sorry - can't be much help. The Mam teats were the ones that worked for us in the end with Bonnie. Clyde isn't so fussy so we just use the standard Avent ones that come with the bottles.

Muser · 03/04/2011 21:39

I calmed her down and managed to get her to use the Medela Calma teat. But then she drank so quickly that she started screaming again. Little nutter.

PollyPoo · 03/04/2011 22:42

Happy Mothers Day Hags! Well I had a card that Boo made at preschool, and a card she made with TG. No bloody flowers or chocolates. I did get to sleep in the spare room though with a planned lie-in until 9am. Unfortunately Boo got me up at 2.30am as she'd wet the bed and once I'd sorted her out I had to read for an hour before I could get back to sleep. FFS. Then she woke me up at 8am. The annoying funny thing was that BB slept in until 8.45am, so if I'd slept in with her as usual I'd have had a much better night!

Went to MILs for lunch and TG did most of BB's feeds today so I do feel like I've had a break. Since we got home though he has had to work so I've ironed 6 shirts and made him a bacon and egg sarnie. He is now screeching about file servers and ... blah blah blah, the rest was white noise, I non comprende. I expect Alps would know what he is on about.

Very jealous of the ride box and clucky. I emailed local riding school a couple of weeks ago to ask about a hack for me and lessons for Boo but they haven't bothered to get back to me. What is point in having website/email address/enquiry form if you don't check the bloody thing?

Fanny sorry to hear that Clyde is still poorly. Sounds grim, poor lamb. I'd be tempted to take him to the docs. They probably won't do anything unless he is dehydrated but it has been going on for a while hasn't it?

In other news I've had a hospital appointment come through for Boo. Sad She has had glands up in neck, armpits and groin for 4 months. Doctor just kept saying 'well lets just keep on eye on things'. Hmm Then she said she'd email the paediatric dept at local hospital for advice. Next thing you know is we've got an appointment through, but it is not until the fecking 3rd of June. Trying not to freak out. Failing.

We don't have that heinous cookie jar. But I did buy one for my niece. Bwahaaahhaaaa. Grin

SilverSky · 04/04/2011 07:07

Morning wimminz,

Hope you all had a luvverly Mothers Day! I did. Too right!

MB had got me a cute card and had added his own handwritten message (basically HIs writing with his left hand!). Then a yummy brekkie, then I went for quick hack out and came back with all of us walking the dog before our lunch date. Lunch was lush! At very nice place, not local to us as such but in a small village Oxfordshire way. Tho as soon as we sat down MB burst into tears which is not like him at all. Think it was cos it was too hot. After a bit, MB relaxed into watching mummy drinking bellinis and red wine. It was a nice long lazy afternoon listening to the entertainment, we headed home as needed to get hoss in and then MIL was coming over for dinner. Yes, I ate two three course meals yesterday.

I've woken this morning to find a leaking boob and a baby still asleep.

Never heard of this cookie jar. I hope to never hear it too!

AlpinePony · 04/04/2011 12:46

muser Are you sure it's Teat Size 1? Sometimes when you buy a bottle the teat size is just the standard one and not the one you actually need. Also, could it be that she's drawing in too much air making her a bit colicky? curly and I did lots of experimentation and I settled on Dr. Browns upon her recommendation for the early days. They're a special anti-colic bottle and the teeny ones seem to like them.

I too am very jealous of boxer and kate's ride. My nag is full of hormones & spring grass and tbh I'm a bit nervous about taking her out right now because she's just effing bonkers. :( Would like to go out with someone who's up for a bit of controlled fun!

boxer I'm thinking of getting a basket saddle for Bear - sell me on it please as they're enormously expensive.

SilverSky · 04/04/2011 13:01

alps shove a calmer in her feed! Life's too short to miss days riding cos hoss is a lunatic!

box HI is going to see if he can take leave for suggested rendezvous.

AlpinePony · 04/04/2011 13:03

Do you know I'd not even thought of that. Durrr. Do you have one you recommend?
