Quick post - Alps I am packing frantically right now! But I have managed to check in on-line, which is fab because I am on a staff travel ticket and the flight is oversold. So at least we will get there, even if it is in economy! No need for minibar worries, the place is a tax-free party zone, and we have a giant fridge!

SilverSky · 18/03/2011 19:09

Despite the shite weather I have had a very socialabke day! Frothy coffee with a soon to be sunroofed preggo pal and this arvo with the lovely Reggie. Yep! Two FESH meets in one week! Was great to meet up and have a right ol' natter whilst enjoying a bite to eat. Deffo going to do it again.

Pretty much sure MB is teething.

Nappy rash experts - his butt is less red but now it looks like he's got dry skin on it. Thoughts? Diagnosis?

Also signed up for posh photos of him. What to dress him in???

CluckyKate · 18/03/2011 19:49

Teething and nappy rash go hand-in-hand Silv - rash will miraculously disappear once the teething eases!

Crappy day here....4 hours sleep and stroppy toddler do not a good combination make. Took the boy to be weighed and had to force LC into the car and listen to her scream while I drove. Burst into tears on the HV so was quizzed...think they think I might have pnd so have an appointment for more grilling next week. I think I'm ok and just need more sleep. The cherry on the cake was when LC wet the bed during her nap....she was sleeping in my bed Angry
on plus side the boy has put on 2lbs and given me some fab smiles this evening - def not wind Smile

Comic relief tonight - I predict more blubbing!!

AlpinePony · 19/03/2011 09:35

oh Kate so sorry to hear you had a hit day, I hope you managed to get some sleep last night and that things seem brighter this morning. At least hobby should be home today to take over a little.

silk I'm so envious, how is the lovely reggie?

We have a dirty queue jumper joined FESH early this morning. Sorry melee the goat's cheese will need to be re-ordered.

Got my boys last night and apart from some confusion in arrivals when two Edinburgh flights came in together at different places and some Penny Hill style running between the two its all good. I got the biggest smiles ever. Bit silly but I was anxious he'd not be bothered. Got my hangs too nom nom.

Okiecokie · 19/03/2011 09:44

I actually liked the uncorrected version Alps.

Okiecokie · 19/03/2011 09:55

Non the wiser. Plz to tell where I can find queue jumping info. There is a lot of talk about the large moon of late. Is this why mini oke likes to wake ridiculously early? I can't think beyond next weekend when the clocks go forward as surely this is going to solve all my early waking problems.

Thanks FP for the terrible 2s reasurrances. Looks like we are in it for the long haul then.

CluckyKate · 19/03/2011 10:03

Much better night last night thanks Alpro and feeling more me today. Off for a ride later in this glorious sunshine Grin

How lovely to be greeted with fabulous smiles too. Bet JB is knackered tho - is good for these Dads to get a little insight into the delights of parenting. 'spect he'll be wanting the weekend off, no?

Oooh - queue jumper

AlpinePony · 19/03/2011 18:17

Casserole laid a little girls in the early hours of this morning. :)

Kate He's very proud of himself for being the ONLY man at the airport travelling with a baybee! :) I am impressed with Schiphol who checked with our town hall that they were who they said they were and checked that I'd not filed a "missing person's" report before letting him leave the country. Edinburgh however happily let him take my baybeeeee away from me without so much as a word. Confused Of course he's actually done very little childcare this week as his mum's done virtually everything - including two nightshifts! Hmm

Bear is a little insecure today - which figures of course, he's in bed now so I can catch up with my bits & bobs. He's very tired and so we've done lots and lots of cuddling.

SilverSky · 19/03/2011 18:38

Congrats to Casserole!!!

alps the lovely Reggie was in fact lovely. We had a very nice moan chat and we plan to do it again. The baybees didn't mind being holed up in a pub. Typically I'd found yet another pub/restaurant without baby changing however I was offered use of the disabled loo as it's roomier. WTF. I'd have to change him on the toilet floor. Sod that. I changed him in the restaurant on the bench I was sitting on.

Kate huzzah for weight gain and boo hiss to the lack of sleep. MBs butt is defo clearing up and I think the dry skin part of the healing process.

SilverSky · 19/03/2011 18:52

Oh and plz to suggest what kind of outfit looks good for photoshoot! Jeans and jumper or a shirt?

Booked MB in to have some decent pics done to shut MiL up with her constant nagging and obsession about photos of him.

I will email out the link and to stuff to the grandparents so they can order at their leisure and expense, of course one grandparent can't use a computer, internet, text, which will then cause more issues. Cake for anyone who guesses who that could possibly be?

AlpinePony · 19/03/2011 19:06

It's personal choice I think. I hate hoods on "normal" tops (sporting hoodies are different) and shirts on little boys. I'd also stay away from a honking great GAP/Next logo or anything which is going to date.

Bear looks best in cornflower blue or red, so I'd just go for something really simple and soft looking with no creases that won't have people squinting, pointing and saying "what does that say there?".

What colour does MB look the most beautiful in?

You could always go for the grandparent's favourite and get the full on sailor-boy outfit.

CurlyCasper · 19/03/2011 19:33

alps are you psychic or summat? Nothing in Deli or FB about Cass.

How did you know?

(will go and try to catch up now - husband is watching rubgy recorded before he got home. Of course, I already know he's going to be a grumpy sod for the rest of the night).

Muser · 20/03/2011 13:22

There is an announcement Casp.

I need to ask about expressing, I had a go with Polly's pump and TBG gave KateBob her first bottle today. She took it straight away, no fussing, and drained the thing in about a minute. And this was one of the Medela Calma things which act like boobs so they have to work for it. I'd expressed for maybe 10 minutes yesterday and this morning and got about 1.5oz. Which is obviously not enough for a feed and naturally she went straight on my boob after guzzling the bit in the bottle.

Anyone who expresses, how long does it take you to get enough for a feed. When do you express? How do you make sure you get the most you can?

She's feeding a lot at the minute so I don't want to express too much right now as I'd never leave the sofa. I did express this morning while feeding from the other boob but it feels a bit too much like work. Any tips gratefully received. I'm not planning on doing regular expressed feedings because it's much easier just to whack out a boob. But at some point I'd like to go get my haircut, or go out for the evening, and want to know I can express enough to make that work.

CluckyKate · 20/03/2011 14:07

Nope - can't find the announcement either Casp

Hooray for BobKate taking the bottle Muse....that is blimmin' excellent!!

Will tell you how I express to give you an idea but bear in mind this is what works for me and may not necessarily be correct or right for you.

I always express first thing in the morning so that if I don't produce enough for a feed I have time to pump out some more a bit later. Then I pump again as close to the feed that I've missed as possible a) so I'm not engorged, b) so I don't cock-up my supply and c) to build up a stash for the freezer.
Yesterday morning I got 3oz out of one boob in about 20 mins., which is roughly what the boy seems to take, and then pumped again at 7pm (this being when he would have fed) and got another 4 oz out (one boob again and also took about 20 mins). I usually leave the pump running until the milk stops....sometimes there's a pause in the flow I'll usually pump for an extra minute just in case the milk starts up again unless I already have enough.

HTH

Muser · 20/03/2011 14:45

Cheers Kate. I think I'll wait until cluster feeding dies down to try this routinely but will keep it in mind.

Announcement is on profile, not other places. Would rather let the layer share herself as it's her news to tell. I know Medee kept quiet about me here and really appreciated it as wanted to tell myself.

CurlyCasper · 20/03/2011 14:49

I still don't see anything on the layer's FB wall. We are friends, but I guess I don't have access. Hope all went well etc. Looking forward to proper announcement on here and a chance to congratulate.

SilverSky · 20/03/2011 14:56

muse deffo hard to strike balance as otherwise expressing becomes such a chore. I've not found that balance and need to crack on again as need to stash up again. My ishoo is that after first am feed we are up, washed dressed and out to stables and I don't have the time to express in the morning. Perhaps if I did it regularly it would be quicker. As you say gotta be careful to not deplete supplies and have nothing left on tap to feed da baybee.

MB seems to be feeding more of late! Poss growth spurt? He's almost 5 mo.

AlpinePony · 20/03/2011 15:32

Am a bit pissed off that both user and Medee have "told me off" for breaking news which is on cb. It's not as if it's been kept family only! And normally we celebrate someone going in to labour and given the nature of pregnancy, it should surprise none that pregnancy ends in birth.

Muser · 20/03/2011 15:52

Not telling you off Alps. Just explaining why I wasn't going to give any more details like when/what/etc.

Medee · 20/03/2011 15:58

What Muse said, Alps.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 20/03/2011 17:04

Re pumping: This is what I do, again poss not ideal but it is the routine we have. I pump last thing before bed, and get around 3oz in half an hour (I think, never timed). TSF feeds Clint this at the beginning of the final feed of the next day, and then I feed normally until Clint is full. Final feed is 7ish and pumping is about 2.5hrs later but the amount I can get depends on the length of the gap and how much Clint has drunk. A very inexact science. Been doing this since just before Xmas. If I need to build a stash to go out I just don't give him a bottle for a few days. I didn't start expressing for several weeks.

Cosmosis · 21/03/2011 09:35

Re pumping, don't sit and look at the pump, do something to distract you, like watch tv, stare at your baybee etc etc. Also don't forget you can add to your stash - it will keep for 7 days in the fridge and if you pump each day you can add it to the same bottle/ storage bag or whatever, as long as you keep to the date of the oldest in there.

Experiment for different times of day, I find I get most in the mornings. If you do it at the same time each day, in theory your body should think this is an extra feed and start producing more milk at this time.

Okiecokie · 21/03/2011 12:44

Agree with the not looking at the pump thing. How weird is that? I can get loads more milk out if I ignore it and a piss poor amount if I stare at it. I express 10pm every night and sometimes in the morning.

Happy birfday for yesterday cunts, hope someone in your household made you a cuppa and let you put your feet up at some point. It's my birthday in a couple of weeks. When asked what I would like my simple answer was some time off/sleep.

Cosmosis · 21/03/2011 13:22

I think it's a relaxation thing Okes, Oxytocin and all that.
