Welcome everyone :)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Congrats Ty!

Today I bottled giving DS cheesy veg and pasta from Boots. When I opened it I thought it was a bit lumpy rather than textured. I gave him a mouthful and then I chickened out of giving him anymore and the rest is in the fridge.

Today's snack was a carrot stix looks like large wotsit. Don't think he consumed any!

I made some purees last night : pea, sweetcorn and cauliflower. I didn't put it through the sieve and I hope DS will be ok scoffing them. Going forward am going to mash stuff rather than liquidize the life out of it.

HarrietJones · 06/05/2011 20:24

Those crisp things are weird. We stick to the rice cakes, usually with something on them.

SilverSky · 06/05/2011 20:33

My friends little boy choked on a rice cracker in front of me and it's put me off. Must conquer these demons!

HarrietJones · 06/05/2011 20:40

IDid you know what to do? If you don't know what to do , take a course & in the meantime read up on it. Knowledge is power!
Coughing doesn't mean choking either, it's clearing the problem so don't panic over every cough!

SilverSky · 07/05/2011 07:50

Luckily he was ok!

Must.chill.the.heck.out.

HarrietJones · 07/05/2011 09:22

Easier said than done Grin it's a confidence thing. I am ok in choking but worry obsessively about salt Hmm

SpringFlowers · 07/05/2011 11:18

I'm not really comfortable with the gagging / choking risk associated with blw and I haven't seen anyone choke! I do like the philosophy behind it but it's just not for me. Having gone back to bf only we are now pooing normally again. I'm going to start introducing some 'rough' purees again I think but very gradually so that R's system doesn't get so bunged up.

Tyson - congratulations on your new pad, that's fantastic. You'llfill the extra space so easily and will wonder how you managed with less very quickly!

Welcome (back) to those who have (re)appeared. It's good to hear from a few more people. Very jealous of the 11 hour nights, we still feed half the night.

Went to work got a couple of hours yesterday. R was up and down at the childminders, it's going to take a while. I felt quite sad but enjoyed work.

sam12 · 07/05/2011 11:51

Congrats ty hope you get moved in ok.
sanam I might see if I can get dd into nursery a bit earlier though she will only be going for 2 days a week.
Well it wasn't long ago I was complaining that baby g was still in 0-3 clothes and now she's in 6-9 she must have had a massive growth spurt over the last few weeks all her 3-6 stuff hardly got a look in.

HarrietJones · 07/05/2011 13:14

I've just been packing up the 3-6m clothes, scary isn't it! Got loads of eBay 6-9/9-12 bundles so it's not costing as much!

Tyson good luck with the move!

All those talking about nursery/cm are scaring me about leaving dd3. I've not left her for more than an hour yet & I'm going to have to start. Also working on get getting used to my mam & dad as she's still not sure(still cries at my dad). I put in my return to work stuff yesterday :(

Dh is on a 42 mile walk today & it's pouring down now so he's going to be sore with wet socks/boots.

TribbleWithoutACause · 07/05/2011 19:30

Oh hj I hope she gets used to them soon, I need to do the same with my Mum as well. DS still isn't sure, he's also starting to get clingy as well.

TyIsAnob · 07/05/2011 20:04

Thanks ladies, i went up there today with the dc and two big bags of stuff, tea towels, bathroom rugs and some toys, oh and a photo. Had to get the bus, if i had my car it would be half full by now Grin

HarrietJones · 07/05/2011 20:21

My mum has been today. Dd3 enjoyed playing with her & sharing lunch. She did get upset when my mam left but didn't want to be alone with her. Grandma must be starting to be fun though!

tiredfeet · 07/05/2011 22:52

Congrats on the new place tyson what did ds think of it?

Hope dh's walk went well hj

We spent today babyproofing the house, as ds starting to walk around using the furniture. He looks so pleased with himself for doing it too. Am sure he was watching me and dh very intently and spotting all the hazards we've missed Grin

SpringFlowers · 08/05/2011 07:12

R is unsure of most people too although is getting better. My dad has always wanted to cuddle her and she's never been very keen. With him staying so much while I was recovering from the surgery she is now very happy around him. I would say by the middle I'd the second day she was fine. He went home for the weekend and came back and she only had a few minutes when she was unsure. So the answer is, invite your parents to stay for a couple of weeks! That said if I'm around there are always times when I am preferred to anyone else. With the childminder I'm going to have to do a gradual build upl as she will be there so long. I still don't know what to do about milk though. I don't think I can express enough for that length of time but really don't want to use formula Sad. Any ideas? What are you all going to do?

HarrietJones · 08/05/2011 07:22

Can you build up an expressed supply now spring? then you've got enough to get up to the summer hols. Over the summer express & freeze again but she will need less in september so it will get easier?

tired we've got a cruiser too. Baby proofing is going to be a nightmare with all our stairs.

Dh did 42 miles in under 11 hours. Best time yet! Dd3 & I met him at the end & she was clapping him!

TribbleWithoutACause · 08/05/2011 10:11

spring I'm building up a supply at the moment, honestly i'm the same with formula. People keep saying to me it's not the end of the world if I give it to DS and whilst it wouldn't be I don't want to do it unless I have to. Really I'm doing the wait and see game.

SilverSky · 08/05/2011 10:38

I'm going back to work in September and am planning on bfing for as long as poss hopefully to a year. I'm building a supply up as DS will be at nursery and I can do the morning and evening feeds and I just need to be able to provide enough for his mid am and mid pm milk. I'm expressing in the morning but I am wondering if I should try and start expressing of an evening also. I reckon he'll need 2x 8oz to go to nursery with him? Anyone know rough amounts? I guess also I'll need to express at work to keep my supply up for days I'm not working.

TyIsAnob · 08/05/2011 11:26

Ds loved it, he ran all over the place getting used to it, Sophie was happy playing with her toys, she sat on her own, and nearly crawled Grin I think it wont be long and she will click onto everything in one go. She still hasnt rolled over but i dont care, ds never really rolled over and he can do it now. :)

HarrietJones · 08/05/2011 12:43

Sounds good ty dd3 doesn't really roll. Mainly swivels & stretches.

Tribble- did you get your base moved closer to home?

Silver - 8oz seems about what dd2 had at a feed from 6m so should be ok.

TribbleWithoutACause · 08/05/2011 17:21

silver According to kellymom babies take 25oz a day give or take and you divide that up between the feeds. I'm trying to build up a few days supply up in the freezer so that when I go back to work it's there so I'll express the feeds we miss. The thing is as well your ds nay well have dropped a feed as well so you not need as much as you think (this is what I'm hoping).

hj Well I have to go back to my original base initially but I'm doing so with the promise that they'll move me asap. I'm not happy but it's better than nothing and I've got the hours I wanted so that's one thing.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 08/05/2011 17:32

Hello! Just checking in. Got back from holiday. We all enjoyed ourselves Smile.

Quick recommendation: Puree a fat slice of mango and half an avocado. Its a fantastic fruit spread for bread/toast etc or a dip and it tastes like butter icing. I was nicking it off DD. Raspberry and avocado good too- rich red clay! DD has gone vegan Grin. I tried her on yoghurt which she liked, but got a rash, so she's taking after her mother! I stopped giving it to her and its all cleared up, so i'm sure dairy is the culprit. If she's anything like me then I shall avoid giving her egg white until she's over a year as I'm allergic to that too amongst other things. I looked at alpro soya yoghurt today as an alternative, but its got salt in it of all things.

HarrietJones · 08/05/2011 18:02

Mocking- think you need nohun for that one!

Tribble- that's ok as a compromise though. I expect the hours are more of a deal breaker re CC than base, especially if long term there can be a move.

I've just ordered a playpen. Baby proofing conversation+ increasingly mobile baby made me plan ahead!

SilverSky · 08/05/2011 18:18

Trib Ds has four milk feeds a day, first thing - mid morn - mid afternoon - bedtime. He has water with his three meals (tho he seems to get mote down him than in him). He also has a snack in between his milk and dinner. I'm bit worried he's not getting enough milk but the guidance I have read says four a day is still ok as DS is being weaned and is 6.5 months. Where has the time gone!!!

Any tips for babies with sweet tooth? I've been disguising savoury stuff with sweet. He likes sweet veg but not keen on the new meat dishes I've tried him on. Need to work on this or I am going to have a fussy bugger on my hands.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 08/05/2011 19:17

Silver- DD has 4 milk feeds a day too and one in the night so I would think you're ok. Breastmilk is sweet, hence the sweet tooth. I'm the same with DD, she's not mad keen on the more savoury stuff. Apparently they're in built to turn away from bitter stuff as its more likely to be poisonous (think caveman). Lamb is sweet and much easier to digest than beef. Roasted chicken- dark meat is also sweet. I've found DD will try more savoury stuff as finger food.

SilverSky · 08/05/2011 19:54

Ok thanks! He's not having any milk in the night and if he does ask for milk aka boob diving I do feed but it's still mainly four feeds.

I'm struggling with finger food ideas. If I offer a snack whilst I'm out, same with meals, its a bit disastrous as too much to look at so some days he's not eating much. His finger food today was Spelt finger with apple but it took ages for him to get on with it and he hardly ate any of it so bit if a fail!!

I'm enjoying the weaning but also find it bit stressful!!!
