Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
shieldbug · 03/05/2011 22:44

Sorry, should have said welcome to sanam- I just got carried away by excitement at the state of ds's nappies. How sad has my life become?

SilverSky · 04/05/2011 06:57

Lol shield!! same as every other mum!

The weaning here is going well. Started off with purees and now going to introduce meat/fish and lumpier bits. Also introducing finger food. Touch scary if I'm honest!! Finger foods are no food if you are in a rush!

Wrt Poo! It was a bit sporadic once weaning started and DS was quite uncomfortable so I gave him an Ella's pouch which had, amongst other things, prunes! Worked a treat!

We are down to four bfs a day, first thing, mid morn, mid afternoon and at bedtime. No night feeds as he has been sleeping through apart from odd wake up.

Hope everyone is well! Sorry to hear some are going back to work! I'm back in September and I feel sick at the thought of leaving him!

TribbleWithoutACause · 04/05/2011 08:58

Weaning is going well here (despite the fact that I have no freaking clue what I'm doing), I've been giving DS more puree based meals when we're out and about as I don't think I can cope with the mess of BLW whilst we're out. At home though I just let him get on with it. He ate fish fingers the other day, he actually must have consumed some of the stuff as his nappy smelt very fishy yesterday (I know how lovely). He also had butternut squash risotto yesterday as well which went down a storm.

HarrietJones · 04/05/2011 09:38

I'm not finding BLW that messy.( feel like I'm doing it wrong!) we've eaten out a few times but I do aim for simple meals then ( lots of salad/sandwiches/pizza). At home anything goes and we have a shower curtain on the floor under the chair and a pinny with sleeves.

SilverSky · 04/05/2011 18:11

Bibs with sleeves here also.

When you give banana how do you give? Cut in strips or simply tear off the tip!?

Anyone else panicking when they cough cos they've got a gob full they are trying to swallow when they need to blooming chew!! Tips welcomed.

HarrietJones · 04/05/2011 19:28

Don't panic,I have come to the realisation that it all comes out again! Choking tends to be silent if that helps( recommend a first aid course for confidence).

I just tear off bits of banana, dh cuts into fingers.

Nearly at a new thread people

SilverSky · 04/05/2011 19:32

What to do if they do choke?

Lay on tummy and smack between shoulder blades? Or is that completely wrong?

HarrietJones · 04/05/2011 20:16

choking

I did a baby first aid course with St Johns years ago, going to do another at some point. I need to update my normal first aid too as it runs out this month.

TribbleWithoutACause · 04/05/2011 20:20

Silver You hold them over your arm pointing downwards and give them firm smacks inbetween the shoulder blades here. Don't be afraid to give them a good blow you need to dislogde the blockage. If that doesn't work after a few tries (it should work in the VAST majority of cases) phone an ambulance and move on to the chest thrusts. Although babies bones are pretty soft if you are doing chest thrusts it is best to get them checked out. This is what I was taught was I did my first aid course.

Where the heck do I get a pinny with sleeves?

SilverSky · 04/05/2011 20:21

Awesome! Invaluable! Thank you.

HarrietJones · 04/05/2011 20:27

Tribble- mine are ikea & matalan.

SilverSky · 04/05/2011 20:59

Bibs with sleeves from Asbo/Mothercare. No idea about piny with sleeves.

Ladies I feel more confident knowing what to do now. Thank you. This is the bit about weaning I am not enjoying!

RooBear · 04/05/2011 21:16

Hey everyone-hope you remember me!!!! Things have changed dramatically, 2 months ago Erin was bf only and really struggled to get her to sleep really struggled. Fast forward 2 months had she eats like a good un and sleeps 11 hours straight every night! started back at work this week too, so she had her first day with the cm and it went like a dream. Hope your all well and I hope I can rejoin now things have settled back down x Smile

TyIsAnob · 04/05/2011 21:26

Hi Roobear , i remember you, glad things are going so well :)
Mine are ikea, but tesco do nice ones too tribble

tiredfeet · 04/05/2011 22:38

Hi roobear lovely to hear from you! Very envious of the eleven hours sleep, ds still wakes at least twice! How are you finding being back at work?

We got some sleeved bibs from tesco tribble but have to say a lot of the time when its warm ds eats in just a nappy, with a muslin for a bib, then I wipe him down after! We have a plastic sheet under highchair which I sometimes take into the garden for picnics

Off to register for nursery tomorrow. I feel sick. The money will be a big help, I only had a low paid part time job after having to leave my previous lawyer job, but I get so upset at thought of not seeing ds. Dh has agreed I can just try it for a month and if its not working for me or ds then give my notice. Chatted to a friend who has been a nursery manager for many years and who knows ds well, and she has given me lots of reassurance about him at least

ILoveGregoryHouse · 04/05/2011 23:31

Hello everybody. Been awol. Just marking place and will catch up with thread.

sam12 · 04/05/2011 23:53

warning this might be a mammoth post as I've just read lots to catch up!!
floozie I know you asked ages ago but the first time Im leaving baby G overnight is half pleasure half duty- its for a wedding where I am the best man. I am trying to write my speech now which is why I am on here Grin
Hope your trip to see family went well.
tired congratulations on your job and I am sure ds will have a great time in nursery- I think it is us who find it hardest.
nohun hope you are having a good time with your visitors.
Hi sanam hope your dd starts settling into nursery- mine is starting the end of June but she hasn't got such a long settling in period as yours now I'm feeling like a bad mum as she will be thrown in the deep end. Although I have fixed it that DH has to drop her off the first week so that I won't be a blubbering mess.
Harriet how are you managing not to get mess with blw? Envy I am sick of picking chewed up food from the floor, the settees, our hair, stuck to our socks etc- you get the picture, and that is with a sheet and long sleeved bib. We got ours from Asda tribble. Silver I was as scared as you but have started to relax now as the more I have just let her get on with it the more control she seems to have of her food iyswim. Tomatoes seem to be her favourite and she gums out all the fleshy parts and then spits the skins back out.
Welcome back Roo how is it to be back at work?
Right I think it is too late to carry on with writing a best man's speech now so I'm off to express and to bed.

HarrietJones · 05/05/2011 07:29

Hi, welcome back everyone!

Good luck to all those heading back to work. I'm putting my dates in today & keep thinking of adding another week on!

ILGH- how are you all settling in back in the UK ? Is dh back now?

Sam- we have chewed up food on the chair/floor but not that much & the messier stuffseems to stat on her/tray.

TribbleWithoutACause · 05/05/2011 09:23

hj DS loves to take his food and drop it over the side of his high chair, he's a cheeky thing he really is.

sam12 · 05/05/2011 10:29

tribble dd does exactly the same- it must be fun. Her gps also bought her a lovely parasol which she promptly broke.

HarrietJones · 05/05/2011 12:48

Dd3 tends to drop something she's finished with. Though she dropped a bit of pizza by accident & fished it out of her pocket to carry on eating! She also gives things to dd1 who sits the other side of her.

RooBear · 05/05/2011 18:19

hey, sam and tired been back 3 days now, its very busy which is good in one sense as I don't think about little one, but i'm so shattered even with a good nights sleep!

sanam2010 · 05/05/2011 20:00

RooBear, glad to hear your DD sleeps so well!! did that come from switching to formula or the solids you think?

DD is settling in much better at the nursery already, yesterday when I picked her up she kept smiling at the nannies there and was really cheerful (fell asleep at home by 5.30 though!) and today she finally took her milk there as well (wouldn't take the bottle before) and again didn't cry when DH dropped her off nor when I picked her up, she was in a very good mood.

Today I enjoyed there first full day since becoming a mum without DD and I must admit I loved it. I felt so relieved now that she is having her milk in the nursery and bonding with her carers. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I went to a cafe, read the newspaper for an hour and then I went shopping for my return to work, bought some really nice Italian shoes and some tops and trousers and then I just went home and relaxed, it was so nice.

sam I really recommend starting your DC a week or two early, why don't you just change the start date at the nursery? That way you can enjoy a week by yourself just to enjoy yourself and relax after 9 months of hard work and 24/7 childcare? I think we all deserve it. I am still not leaving DD there the full day, but from 8am to around 3 or 4pm (next week she will be from 8am - 6pm), that way I get to spend two hours with her in the evening before putting her to bed but still have the whole day to relax. I highly recommend it!

We're doing BLW here as well by the way, though I am not sure how it's going to work with the nursery, they seem to be a bit confused about it and have only given DD rice cakes so far, I told them they can give her toddler food but I think they are hesitant. It's going really well, on Saturday we went to an Italian restaurant and DD had garlic bread, pizza, boiled potato and grilled fish (which I admit I offered her on a finger to lick, and then she loved it and kept opening her mouth to get more). She absolutely loves potatoes and all kinds of fruit, watermelon is a big favourite as is pear.

We had a bit of a choking scare with a piece of apple at the beginning (she just coughed it back up though, it was fine), so now I am only giving her softer fruits like banana, mango, pear, melon etc.. We also squeeze blackberries and mandarins or oranges in the doidy cup and she just drinks the freshly squeezed juice with water.

TyIsAnob · 06/05/2011 12:03
