Here we go, down the slippery slope of parenthood. Slippery thanks to the poos, wees, leaky boobs and goodness knows what else :o :o

We'll be here to hold each other's virtual hands through the tough nights and delightful days, and to laugh at each other's stories of comedy nappy changes Hmm, and the fear (or not?) of getting back in the saddle, and coating some cervixes just for the fun of it again!! :o

Crystyclear · 26/03/2011 15:04

hi all!

long week! lovely to meet salt and Bubba in London

glad you survived the horrible train journey cupcakes and hope it's ok with the outlaws until you can get home.

have been having horrible problems getting DS to take any daytime naps, but finally today got him to have one and two hours later he's still asleep! Hmm hope he sleeps tonight and i haven't confused him with long sleeps in ebd during the day.

jjkm My DS at 6.5 weeks is feeding every 1-2 hours on average and cluster feeds in the evening. no idea how much he takes, as he's BF. i think he's been having a more or less continuous growth spurt since birth and has put on 3.5 lbs in six weeks (gulp).

RunningKatie · 26/03/2011 16:00

DD found her thumb last night and again this morning, have uploaded a pic of her furiously sucking it whilst being cuddled by DP.

Anyone else shivering after the tropical week we've just had? We've been for a walk and I was beginning to wish I'd got my gloves on!

Got to start sorting out my maternity clothes to give them back to the girl who leant them to me, not sure if I've said that she'd given up hope of having DC2 after 4 years of trying - gives away her baby stuff and is now 14 weeks pregnant. It's brill and I'm really chuffed for her, just a tad worried I can't fit in my normal clothes just yet! :)

travispickles · 26/03/2011 16:57

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagghhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just typed a great long one and bloody lost it.
Lovely pic Running - she is soooo cute. No dummy then? Saskia won't take one so sucks her hand, occasionbally stumbling on a digit!
Went to Next sale today and spent a fortune on a load of fat clothes, horrific changing room m oment (reminded me of tranny and susannah when they used to make women cry looking honestly at themselves.) when I realised the extent of the damage. Curse all that chocolate/cake!! So bought a cheap fat wardrobe for this TRANSITIONAL stage (just to remind myself!)
Sas also struggling with concept of daytime naps but is asleep next to me in bed at the moment. Have noticed correlation between not enough daytime sleep and screeching nightmare at 7.30 pm.
Also feeding same as Crysty describes (eg - no routine, no pattern just whenever -all- -the- -bloody- -time-), with similar gargantuan results.

HubbaHubbaBubba · 26/03/2011 20:27

Thought we'd scared you off crysty!! :o Glad you had a good week - you back home now?

Gorgeous pics running - at the risk of copying travis, she is sooooo sweet!! L is desperately trying to scoff his entire fist, but gags a little bit when he does manage to get the whole hand in!! :o

I'm avoiding shops travis for that very reason - I have squeezed into a few pre-preg jeans, but the ones on today have left deep red marks in my fat hips, and the top button's been undone all day, leaving a rather fetching load of tummy hanging over the top Blush. Still waiting to spend Christmas and birthday money - may well be spent in the summer sales now!! :o My parents have scales in their bathroom and I check my weight every now and then and I've put on weight over the past couple of weeks - so much for BFing helping you lose weight!! Blush. Hey ho, sure the chinese takeaway we're about to scoff will help Hmm

Had lots and lots of smiles and mini chuckle sounds from L, which means I can slightly forgive his greedy feeding habit!

Qu. to those of you who've had your six-week check - did they check out your stitches or anything? I will have both daughters in tow and can just imagine the kinds of questions they'll be asking if I have to drop my pants!!! :o

LadyBuzz · 26/03/2011 20:37

awww running she is gorgeous, Kali also tries her best to get the thumb but hasn't worked out how to release it from her fist so she tries to shove her whole hand in too!

Shes not been well this week, shes had a bit of a cough and has coughed herself sick a few times Sad she seems a bit better today though.

Another one that isn't so keen on daytime sleeping here too, infact not too keen on anything that isn;t being held by whoever and walked about with Hmm not easy to do stuff when she is like that.

bubba chinese food here too I need to stop eating, the exercise is not balancing out the food intake let alone beating it, diest starts Monday for me, I'm loathed to buy fat clothes but I am quickly running out of clothes grr!

gallicgirl · 26/03/2011 20:45

hubba when I booked my 9 6 week check, I asked if the doc does an internal and was told he doesn't. I think they just feel your abdomen to check everything is back in the right place. Obviously the fat mummy bumps will not be in the right place!

I had to buy new jeans last week. We were in a Gap outlet so it seemed daft not to buy a pair when they're only £24 instead of £40. I was however inbetween sizes so went with the smaller pair as an incentive to eat less chocolate. I'm not telling you which sizes though!

DP is at work so DD and I have had a lovely afternoon watching tv and cuddling on the sofa. DD has spent most of the afternoon asleep in all fairness but she does seem to watch tv which is slightly disturbing. I've just put her in her bouncy chair with her back to the tv. When I came back into the room I swear she was twisting around to try and watch Blush.

I changed her nappy after the last feed and had one of those mega sessions that involved 3 clean nappies, 3 clean vests and 2 top 'n' tail washes. Please tell me you all have those now and again. Damn reflux is a pain in the arse but it's better than the wind she got after using the infant gaviscon.

How are you coping with your in-laws Cupcakes? Hope you're having a good trip.

Crystyclear · 26/03/2011 20:55

just dropping in quickly before The Killing starts! I've been waiting weeks for the finale, so fingers crossed i get to watch it - utterly thankful for the IPlayer if I don't however.

Well - it took four hours, but DS is asleep (for now) and I'm trying to gently get him used to the idea of an evening routine - i.e bath, massage, pjs, feed, sleep... let's see how that pans out!

i have my 6 week check next week, but no idea what to expect, except that i know i've got to toddle off to see the consultants at the hospital for further tests in the near future, when they've got an appointment through that is.

Must start some vague attempt at a diet here, but have been losing weight, despite eating lots of chocolate. it's possibly a combination of things for me including - lack of booze, actually eating breakfast and being able to regiment what time i have each meal.

wasn't slim before tho, so will be a long while before i get to a svelt (snigger) figure... Grin

gallicgirl · 26/03/2011 21:14

Let me know how that routine thing works out.

After Alys woke up ridiculously late yesterday, we realised that we must get her up earlier and try to get her into bed earlier - preferably before midnight! Anyway we got up at 9:30 today so we'll see how the bedtime happens.

How often to you bath your babies? I thought it was bad for their skin to be bathed too often so I've only been bathing when she really needs it so about twice a week I guess.

Crystyclear · 26/03/2011 23:09

DS is still asleep and it's my bedtime now, so wonder when he'll wake me for a feed. this is the first time he's been asleep this early without me, so feels very odd - i keep checking to see what i've lost and then realise it's because he's in the other room. i'm also fighting the urge to go and pick him up for a cuddle and have been since i put him down.

re: bathing - DS gets a full bath with me 2/3 times a week and i top and tail him everyday otherwise.

he's got a touch of cradle crap (as Bubba calls it) Grin so his hair smells a bit gack, so gently washing that quite regularly. he's also a mussy beggar and gets milk behind his ears all the time!

right, off to bed! night all.

RockLover · 27/03/2011 11:03

Morning ladies. Just seen the news about the situation in Syria getting worse, I hope you're ok to go home cupcakes, it all looks a bit scary out there!

George is doing so well with his sleeping and often sleeps 4/5 hours at a time in his cot, no more bed sharing with DP and I. Hurrah!

He is also "tall and skinny" according to his 6 week check, although he is putting on weight and doesn't look thin to me. He weighs around 11lb 2oz now and is just under the 50th percentile for this, however for his height he is on the 98th percentile and head circumfrence he is on the 91st. This is fine apparently, but they want me to get him weighed again in 3 weeks just to make sure his weight gain continues to be ok. Think he's going to take after his dad who is 6ft 1 lol.

Also I asked the dr about George sticking his tongue out all the time and she said it was slightly unusual, but not concerning. However they want to keep an eye on it just to make sure it's nothing medical so I have to take him back to see her at 3 months. Apart from that he is "as bright as a button" in the dr's words and she was very impressed by his head control as he is so strong :). Can you tell I'm a proud mummy??

George is smiling more and more and they are getting bigger and more cheeky each day, he just makes my heart melt with his gummy little grins. I can't help thinking how lucky I am to have two such gorgeous kids, all the pain and feeling crap (and the ruined body) is so worth it isn't it?

gallicgirl · 27/03/2011 13:00

aww so pleased it went well Rock. My DD is on 91st centile for head circumference but 50th for weight and length so she has a biiiiiiiig heeeeeeeead. Serves me right for making jokes about giving birth to Stewie Griffin. Confused

Do you think children inherit their parents' body clock? Alys won't go to sleep before 1am but sleeps til 10am and is a grumpy soandso when I wake her up. Just like mum and dad! Grin

HubbaHubbaBubba · 27/03/2011 14:12

L being weighed and measured tomorrow, so will report back.

Off to the pub for a friend's birthday - think it might be high time I let DH drive back Wine, Wine and more Wine for me!! :o

To answer bathing question, I reckon we only bath L about once or sometimes twice a week although he did have his first bath with his sisters. They thought it was excellent - he liked it for about five mins then the bottom lip started wobbling!! :( :) :( :)

gallic my LOs all follow my body clock, but not my DH's. I'm an early bird and he's a night owl, although slowly being forced into submission :o

Fuzzywood · 27/03/2011 16:40

Bubba I didn't have stitches this time but seem to remember from 6 week check after DD that the doc asked if I wanted her to check my stitches but I declined so think it's up to you.
Having a bit of a tough weekend here DD seems to dislike me immensely at the moment and spends most of her time with me either shouting or crying at me and the rest of her time on the naughty step. Ev on the other hand screams blue murder if I go out if sight and his preference is to be attached to me. Plus the 3 of us have a cough and cold. Hopefully just a phase with DD and maybe Ev is just feeling poorly but I'm knackered. The house is a tip because I can't get much done with an increasingly heavy baby attached. Sorry whinge over.
Will the situation in Syria affect you Cupcakes, I hope not.
Lovely new pictures will try and post some later in the week.
Rock sounds like George is doing great.
Got Ev's first vaccinations tomorrow, that'll cheer him up I'm sure Hmm.

HubbaHubbaBubba · 27/03/2011 18:17

Whinge away - we're here to be whinged at. And I sympathise fuzzy with the second sibling jealousy - it shows itself in all sorts of ways. At least she's not taking it out on Evan I suppose? DD1 was awful after about 6/7 weeks of DD2 arriving (drew blood od DD2's little face a couple of times Shock :(. DD2 is making her jealousy/insecurity known atm too and it's tough!

Think I shall be declining the doc's inspection of my fandangle if I also get the option - if DH doesn't get to go there, nor does the doctor! :o

Had a nice afternoon in the pub garden with friends, but by 'eck it's noisy with millions of children everywhere - admittedly I contributed somewhat to the numbers, but still... :o

Ryuk · 28/03/2011 01:43

Gallic, DS also seems to like watching tv! We were at MIL's house earlier, he was complaining, I put him on the living room floor to change his nappy and he immediately turned his head towards the tv and started quietly concentrating in its direction.

He also has a large head, although according to the GP it's actually just a strange shape, so seems large because the bit she was measuring around was wide; apparently some babies have wide heads and some have long heads. Apparently. Hmm

when is it normal to start having sex again? I had a poke around to survey the damage and it feels a bit... weird down there. It's not sore but feels distinctly different and somewhat misshapen, and that's weirded me out a bit and rather put me off the idea.

travispickles · 28/03/2011 10:08

Hi all! Well, Saskia's bonce is long and thin (partly to do with being wedged in my pelvis for a long time and then wrenched out upside down apparently!) and she will be ridiculed forever if it doesn't shorten or she will have to do like jay kay and wear a range of beanies :)
Feel a bit low again, have noticed that Monday morning does that, when OH gone back to work and I survey the house and contemplate the drudgery of housework. On a plus note did get back on the horse (well not literally - did the deed iykwim Wink) but it hurt a bit (and I had a section?!)... but at least the fear of it is over.
Hope you are feeling more cheery than me. And cupcakes is ok!

gallicgirl · 28/03/2011 13:28

travis perhaps it's worth asking about cranial osteopathy for Saskia? My friend's baby has had it and it helped immediately with sleep after just one session (ventouse was used during birth). Well done on the successful horse riding Wink

fuzzy I hope you're feeling better and Evan's injections go ok. Alys has hers on Wednesday.

Lovely and sunny here so I'm going to try and get out for a walk later. Unfortunately DP has gone to work in my car and taken the pushchair with him so I will have to use the sling and hope DD sleeps as well in that as she does the pushchair.

I'm currently procrastinating. I thought Alys was waking for a feed because she cried all through my lunch but she seems to have tired herself out and is now asleep again. I ought to be washing up or sorting laundry but it ain't happening.......as usual!

HubbaHubbaBubba · 28/03/2011 14:48

I also used cranial osteopathy for DD1 who was a very unsettled little one. Looks and feels like a rip off (£50 IIRC), but it did seem to work wonders to her unsettledness (it IS a word!)

Also procrastinating here - there is a wash to hang up, but I forgot to take the last wash in and it sat out in the garden for three days, including getting rained on :o Hmm

Just got back from weigh-in. L is now just over 14lbs, and all measurements put him at the 91st centile, so I'm :). He's now lying on the floor farting away happily. Quite tunefully too Hmm :o

My mum has also offered to look after the girls on Weds during the doc's appt, so no need to try and occupy them during three appointments including jabs. Lifesaver.

Hope all are having a good week.

cupcakes hope all is okay with you?

Fuzzywood · 28/03/2011 15:35

Just back from Evan's jabs he was suitably unimpressed! Also got him weighed as HV was there, he's dropped from the 75th to 50th over 2 weeks and only put on 6oz in that time, though as he's had a cough and cold HV wasn't too worried. I'll of course now worry for days Hmm. she said to bring him back in 2 weeks to check progress so hoping its just a blip.
Hope you all have as sunny a day as it is here, currently feeding in the garden.

HubbaHubbaBubba · 28/03/2011 16:24

Aw Fuzzy I understand how you're feeling; that's the same equivalent loss as L had. I couldn't wait for the two weeks and snuck in the following week Blush. Sure it's just a blip - how does Evan seem in himself?

gallicgirl · 28/03/2011 16:49

fuzzy don't worry, I'm sure he's fine. Although weight gain is slower, he has gained weight. trouble with centiles is someone has to be top and someone at the bottom so don't stress.

Lovely and sunny here. Took alys for a walk in the sling seeing as DP took the pushchair to work in the back of my car Hmm

HubbaHubbaBubba · 28/03/2011 16:57

How did she sleep gallic? L loves the sling and zonks out within a few steps when he's in it! (but if my DH did that to me, I'd tell him it was a 'mare, because I'm evil like that!!). DH once left me front-door key-less on a really hot day with DD1 so I couldn't get out of the house Hmm

Fuzzywood · 28/03/2011 18:07

Thanks guys. He's fine in himself lots of lovely smiles and gurgling away so I'm sure he's fine. Poor little mite has what appears to be 2 teeth coming through so that can't be helping (may well see him bottle fed sooner than planned if they come through soon Grin

RunningKatie · 28/03/2011 18:36

DD is asleep on DP, we've started putting her into a grobag thing and she's settling quite well into it. She slept most of yesterday which was a bit of a pain as DP was quite excited about going and doing a plate with her footprints on. Wonder if that's my Mothers Day present?!

Fuzzy - sounds like the reduced weight gain could well be down to the cold etc. Hope it's more good news in a fortnight, my HV scared the life out of me about DD's weight and I'm dreading going for her 8 week check next week just in case.

DP has fixed the brick trolley that was made for me when I was little so DD can have it. So cute, next he has to fix my ride on train! :) chuffed that these toys are getting a new lease of life.

gallicgirl · 28/03/2011 18:42

She slept fine. I think how much she likes it depends on her mood when she goes into it. She was pretty bad-tempered because I'd woken her to change nappy before going out so I wasn't sure she'd settle but once she quietened down, she was fine and slept straight away. She wouldn't turn her head to one side so I was a bit concerned about her squashing her nose against me and suffocating but she was fine.

I have discovered today that formula doesn't taste too great. We were mucking about playing and laughing and I was lifting Alys above me when she dribbled into my mouth. GROSS
