Yes, yes, birth story when you get a chance. Have you got any pics of the boys together yet?
My middle sister has two (grown up) boys with the same age gap. They have very different groups of friends/jobs/politics but they are very close, happily holiday together, and always have each others back. It's lovely.

Schulte · 21/07/2011 18:28

Huge congratulations to Zulu and Bicnod! Well done ladies. Damn, I can't remember Zulu's RL name, will have a nose around on FB and see if I can find those photos...

Schulte · 21/07/2011 18:34

Zulu, have sent you a friend request.

ZuluWarrior · 22/07/2011 12:41

Yes Bicnod - get that birth story done. Not like you have anything else to do Grin. He is gorgeous though..

BB how did you get on with the consultant? Did you get any satisfactory answers? I got the biker baby sleepsuit as part of a newborn 3 pack for Sandy. It's from Next I think. V cute. Someone has given Laura some girly sleepsuits now so she's a vision in pink.

Schulte, like BB I just assumed we were facebook friends already Blush.

Laura is doing great. She has turned night into day and had me up every hour and a half last night but is cuddly and gorgeous. I had forgotten how lovely a newborn was. My cracked nipples are settling down too so I don't have to cry every time she latches on!

Job application is in - phew. Now just an interview in 5 weeks to prepare for....

SeniorWrangler, how are things?

Schulte · 22/07/2011 15:18

Oh heck. Hazel did that from weeks 3-6 - was up all night, every night, and fast asleep during the day, nothing would wake her up. It was hell. Hopefully Laura will sort her body clock out quickly!

Bicnod · 23/07/2011 17:52

Ok ladies - birth story. Wrote it all out for myself so probably a bit long winded - feel free to ignore!

8am on Saturday, waters broke. Just a trickle at first and then little gushes every time I stood up. Went to hospital to be checked by midwife at 11.30am and she confirmed that it was my waters and that if nothing had happened by tomorrow I would need to come in to start being induced.

Mum and Dad came up and took Oscar out for the afternoon so that DH and I could go for a long walk up to Wimbledon Common to try to get things moving along. Still didn?t feel like I was having contractions although my bump felt very tight and pointy.

Got home at same time as Mum, Dad and Oscar. Mum and Dad left at Oscar?s teatime to go and stay at my Aunt?s house down the road.

10 minutes after they left I felt my first contraction. Felt another one fairly shortly afterwards and got DH to put the TENS machine on. Started timing the contractions ? they were about 2.5/3 minutes apart and increasing in intensity. Called Mum and Dad to come back and contractions started coming thick and fast. Felt increasingly anxious.
Mum and Dad arrived home at 6.20pm and DH and I pegged it to Kingston Hospital in the car ? phoned midwife and told her I was coming in. Contractions coming about 1.5 minutes apart and getting more and more intense.

Arrived at hospital at about 6.35pm and had to wait for about 15 minutes in reception while they got the room ready. Seriously strong contractions now. Receptionist getting increasingly concerned that I was about to give birth there and then. She told the midwives that they had to let me in even if the floor was still wet Hmm and walked me down the corridor to the room (this was at about 6.55pm).

Got into room and knelt leaning against bed. After a couple of contractions put my head up and apologised to midwives for not being very sociable. Midwives laughed. Midwives were still in process of filling up birthing pool. DH persuaded them to let me get in as it was filling. Got in pool ? it was bliss. Contractions eased up a bit (think I had just gone through transition).

Felt urge to push ? midwife checked to see if any cervix left and said ?nope, there?s nothing there? to which I apparently replied ?what? No baby?? and she said ?nope, no baby, in fact you?re not even pregnant? ? ha bloody ha.

Started pushing. Felt baby moving down. Started bleeding and they couldn?t see where from so they got me out of the pool and on to the bed ? kneeling up and leaning forward over raised front of bed. After a good few pushes, a seriously stinging ring of fire and a baby whose face was going purple (they got me to push his body out even though I wasn?t having a contraction at that point) baby was born at 7.31pm. They passed him to me through my legs and Luke told me he was a little boy. Turned round and lay back with beautiful little bundle on my front. Job done. Grin

2nd degree tears stitched up after 3 hours (!) of waiting as registrar had an emergency c-section to deal with.

PuzzleRocks · 23/07/2011 18:27

Whaaat? No effing and blinding? Grin

Purple sounds a bit scary.

Bicnod · 23/07/2011 18:42

No effing and blinding - in fact DH has taken the piss out of me relentlessly ever since for being so polite throughout Blush

I did say 'fuck yeah' when the midwife asked if I was glad it was over - but then quickly apologised Grin

ZuluWarrior · 25/07/2011 13:08

Wow Bicnod. That was fast. Great story! Ouch for the tear though....

BabiesBolat · 25/07/2011 16:30

Oh Bic - I'm kind of let down by the lack of profanities but will let you off as it was so bloody quick! Grin

Well done - ouch for tearing but job done indeed! Did they give you some pain meds while you waited to be stitched up? Ouch and ouch! ooh I love a good birth story!

Zulu, no my consultant is the most blase man I have ever met! Literally you ask him a question and everything is fine and no problem but you never get any answers. My scans have shown the babies going up and down in sizes (heads legs etc) virtually every time and I asked him whether the fact that one babies head has gone down so much was something to worry about and he was like 'ooh it's just the people doing the scanning. Some are good at their job, some are not and just want to strive for normal and will make it as close to the 50th percentile as possible! So I wouldn't worry about it, it's probably just errors on their part!' NICE. I spoke to him about options and whether if placenta moves and all was going well could I try and do it without epidural and then if need a section have a spinal or something - basically do I have to be strapped to a bed with no feeling in my lower parts for the whole time and he said 'well you could but why would you want all the pain of labour when you just have to have one anyway?!?!' Although I do like him but just wonder about his get up and go! Although he did make me feel better as his wife is bigger than me with a singleton due after me so he's the only person that made me not feel horrendously fat! Which I am by the way - measuring at 48 inches round now! 122 cms!!! Shock

He is very nice but sooooo frustrating! He is leaving in September and I CAN'T WAIT - I am desperately hoping the one after him has a bit of oomph about them and will attempt to give me more definite answers. I asked him about timing as scanners said if placenta was still blocking at 32 weeks I would go back in at 34 weeks for a scan and decision about CS / VB but when I spoke to him about it he was like, well maybe we will get you back in at 36 weeks and look again and just hope you don't go into labour first! Seriously - actually writing about it I am pretty pissed off with him. The 12 week appointment he told me that he wouldn't let me go past 36 weeks and now he is talking about leaving it until 38 weeks!!! GRRR Anyway, think that is just my mood at the moment - trying my hardest not to snap at everyone but not succeeding!!!

Hope everyone is ok! We best start thinking of some thread titles soon - think this is the longest we've had the same one for!!! x

Beebs - In the absence of wine I always find Cornettos are good for dampening murderous intent.

SeniorWrangler · 30/07/2011 22:10

Congrats to new baby people!

I have been in Brittany for a week and I am a little bit happier and a bit suntanned too.

I still get fretful when I think about work and I am in close contact with the union and so on.

Not sure where I am going in life at the moment.

SeniorWrangler · 30/07/2011 22:12

PS We can tell BB is hugely pg from the length and frequency of her posts!!!
