it appears I posted the last post... so here's a new thread

ronshar - both kids ill again... Orin a bit pukey at the moment too, which i am putting down to excess mucus.... Emma was reflux baby until she was a year old so i am making sure Orin isn't by the power of positive thought alone Hmm

I am sincerely hoping they will both be immune to all colds by the time they go to school :)

I am also planning some gentle sleep training when Orin hits about 7/8 months if things don't improve. He's 24 weeks now and getting ejected from our bedroom tonight. The moment i go in the room he wakes up so i'm sure he'd be less disturbed if i wasn't there... either that or i am going to be spending the whole night camped out in his room.... typically he is only feeding twice in the night now so i could cope with doing that in a separate location.

my mummy juice doesn't last nearly as long as 7pm.... tis gone by the time DH gets in from work

Very scared for friends in Japan :( I've been able to track down most via fb, but not all.

What a sad, scary day.

Coconutfeet · 11/03/2011 13:44

Very scary isn't it, Star. My friends' in-laws are in Sendai. Poor thing.

CSWS - Your friend sounds just what you need at the moment. You really won't know what's hit you when you're pain-free and have children who sleep. Smile

Pistachio - Grin for your friend. How lovely that you were able to share it with her.

Ronshar - I've got no advice, but I really feel for you. You must wish you could split yourself into three so you can deal with everybody who needs you.

KSal - Apparently tilted uteruses are quite common but I didn't know that you could get one through childbirth. Maybe that's why no-one ever mentioned it to me before. Hope the LOs are better soon.

Well, I'm bleeding very heavily and passing clots so I'm hoping that I may be passing everything naturally now. I'm not sure what to expect and whether it's going to get much worse as I've got no idea how much was left behind. Not sure if I can safely risk going too far from the house now that it's really started. Bah.

StarExpat · 11/03/2011 13:50

Glad that it's passing but :( for you, cf.

I assume that your friend has not heard from her in-laws yet?

Friends in Tokyo were those I was most worried about and they are ok. Those in the south are just experiencing aftershock shakes now.

KSal · 11/03/2011 15:24

cf am only speculating.... basically mine was tilted back (retroverted) and as everything contracts and goes back to where it was before pregnancy the uterus can go into the tilted forward position instead (as it should be). I reckon if that is possible, then the opposite is also probably possible.

Star, hope you hear from your friends soon

Hi all, I have read back but did it yesterday so have forgotten what I was going to comment on! Blush

CF - I second what everyone else has said, it puts my pathetic moaning to shame!

Ronshar, you're absolutely right. I was having a neurotic phase which has now passed thankfully. I blame the hormones. Yesterday it changed to psychotic and today I'm back to normal again Grin

I'm off to bed soon, I'm not sleeping well at all which doesn't help with the mood swings and keeping calm. Been to swimming class with Poppy today, she just loves the water now, does the whole lesson with a big smile on her face Smile. She shouted down the stairs at bedtime tonight "Mummy love you so much" SmileSmileSmile My cup runneth over... She is still such a mummy's girl and I really really feel for DH but no matter what we do it just isn't changing, the dynamics of the house will no doubt change beyond recognition with Junior anyway so no point worrying about it too much I guess.

My current fave chill-out music for the labour is Corinne Bailey Rae, can anyone suggest similar artists for me to download? Last labour it was Norah Jones, I'm a creature of habit!

Honeymoonmummy · 11/03/2011 22:50

Oh and we've just switched her to semi-skimmed milk, I read that you should do this once they reach 2 if their diet is otherwise OK, has everyone else already done this?

I also encourage oat or rice milk for Q and he can have the semi skimmed if he wants now. After reading up on it
More, I cringe to think of him drinking a lot of it. But yes yogurt and cheese are eaten daily.

star - you do know that rice milk isn't recommended for under 5's now because of the levels of arsenic in it don't you? I still happily use an odd bit here and there, but wouldn't give it on a daily basis.

Have you tried the new (to Ocado at least!) Kara milk made from coconuts btw? It's v nice.

I use oat milk for cooking normally pistachio, as sauces/batters seem to turn out best with it. I do also offer it as a drink to ds1, although he rarely drinks much, but dd always has a cup of (cows) milk before bed, so I try to give D the same option. I bought some vanilla rice milk recently to make rice pudding with, and some vanilla soya milk to make custard with. The coconut milk I bought to see what it was like (and think it was on offer) and had a glass to actually drink as it was quite tasty. I could detect a coconutty tinge to it though, whereas the other milks don't taste like what they're made of iyswim.
I also have a carton of hemp milk in the cupboard that I bought recently!
Almond milk would be a good baking substitute, but I don't think I do any/many cake recipes that require milk at all.

ronshar · 12/03/2011 15:48

I made pancakes with oat milk on Tuesday. Very yummy. It meant DD2 got to join in. Poor girl really feels left out of all kinds of things now she has to be completely dairy free.

I only let my children have milk in the morning with their breakfast anyway. Never seen the point of have it any other time. Neither dh or I drink it other than in tea so that is probably why.

CF I hope it is over soon for you. Sad

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/03/2011 15:51

Yes I don't drink milk even in tea or coffee ronshar, just on cereal when I have it. But dd loves milk so has it multiple times a day.

I had a muffin last night made without milk just oil. Bloody lovely it was. And it had a choc put in the top when it came out of the oven & left to melt. Beautiful I tell you.

Honeymoonmummy · 12/03/2011 16:31

I really liked oat milk when I was dairy free for a while, carried on using it for some time afterwards altho I'm now back on normal semi skimmed. Pops also drinks quite a lot of milk, altho not as much as she used to. She's put on a bit of weight recently having been through a skInny phase so I have no probs reducing her fat content.

Have had quite a lot of BHs today, fingers crossed the curry I have tonight will start things off! Smile

Coconutfeet · 12/03/2011 17:10

Good luck HMM.

We use oat milk quite a lot here too as dp tried to avoid too much dairy because of his skin. If I'm making a lasagne or something I'll use soya milk for the white sauce. Would oat milk work too? I don't really like to use too much soya because of the environmental issues (I don't know whether it's possible to buy environmentally friendly soya milk. If anyone knows please tell me!)

I've not had almond milk, but I know almond cream is a yummy alternative to regular cream.

I can understand the arguments about being vegan but could never actually do it, as I love cheese too much.

Bleeding was horribly heavy yesterday and then tailed off, so I thought the worst was over. I took S to a birthday party this afternoon and it all started again so I had to make my excuses and leave early. Hopefully it won't last too long.

Is anyone on here watching The Killing (Danish detective seried on BBC4?) I'm addicted. Can't wait till this evening so I can curl up on the sofa and watch it. What a loser, I am. Smile

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/03/2011 19:42

I'm not watching the killing, but have heard several people mention it.

Yes, you could use oat milk for the white sauce definitely, and also for the muffins.

I've not come across almond cream, but it sounds divine, so off to see if ocado or tesco stock it online. If I want cream then I use the fresh alpro soya for single, or cremo vita for whipping (which was a disaster the first time I tried, but then a friend said to refrigerate it first, and it worked that time).

Good luck hmm. A nice long walk after the curry is to be recommended. I was walking round a park when ds2 decided to start coming.

Coconutfeet · 12/03/2011 20:32

I don't know if you can buy almond cream but it's easy to make with almonds if you've got a blender. Will post a recipe tomorrow.

I've just had a very scary few hours of bleeding. It's easing off now but I really thought I was going to have to head to A&E. Dp's getting himself into a terrible state worrying about me. I really need him to keep calm. He's no good in a crisis and it drives me mad.

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/03/2011 20:37

Oh cf :(. Do make sure that you get to a&e in time if there's any likelihood of you needing a transfusion.

Cf :( I really hope it calms soon. Thinking of you a lot.

Csws no I didn't know that. Q has has rice milk a handful of times when I've not had oatmilk or oatmilk was sold out (so he had a juice box carton of rice milk - a few of these over time). Do I need to tell a dr? He does get semi skimmed at times as well but I don't like him having loads of milk. I never read arsenic on the label!! Worried now.

Pistachio I cook with oatmilk and I think it just makes things a bit sweeter. But I'm not the best cook in the world. I use regular cow's milk, too. Whatever is available.
