well baba loves her vehs - esp broccolli as she cant get enough of it and also fish and pasta (and chicken korma!)

baba is having average 5/6 bottles a day of average 6oz and also have 3 meal per day too - is that too much? as she have her brekkie and her bottle in morning, then she have solid lunch with naother bottle or just a bottle, then sleep - 2 hours, then tea, yoghurt and biscuit maybe and then another bottle, later before bed another bottle - at the end of the nite she often go thru 15 oz before she is flat out for bed for the nite

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 21/12/2005 10:36

flo -= mine had been slef feeding herself since she turned 1 (1st oct) and she loves it but if i tried to feed her, she doesnt want to know so i gave up and i just give her the bowl of foods (whilst im watching her before she tip it out or put it on her head/face as she had done!!)

maisiemog · 21/12/2005 19:42

Jbad, he looks as if he is having a good look around to see what's going on. He has really grown. Fingers crossed for the results soon!
Biglips, my dp recently did some research to see what Alfie should get at 13 months. Apparently the average toddler should get around 1000 calories a day. Between one and two years of age 50% of the child's requirements should still be met by milk or something similar.
I think baba is well above average, so she will probably need a bit more. I don't know how many calories are in a bottle, but it would be easy enough to check on the tin.
Have you thought about replacing her bottle with a feeding cup or beaker yet?
Florence, I've started giving Alf the spoon - what a mess!!! He eats a bit then squidges the rest in his hand and wipes it all over the shop.
"Get your hand off my trousers darling!"
Reibee, I like the sound of your cafe. There's a kind of softplay thingy near me, where you can take babies as well and have a cuppa. It's such a relief not to have to entertain them constantly, whilst attempting to hold a conversation.
Has everyone got their pressies yet?
Bought a frozen turkey at Morrisons yesterday - halfprice deal. Apparently defrosting takes 24 hours per 5lbs of turkey, which means I'll have to transfer it to the fridge tonight. Major rearrangement of fridge.
I seem to have millions of teeny bits of food for Alf, stored in loads of plastic containers.

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 22/12/2005 10:19

maisie - my baba drinks her water out of a beaker so im gonna try the milk after Xmas is over.
(thanks for the advice btw.. ill have a look in a minute to see how much is she drinking)

i went to see my cousins DD who is 5 weeks old (born 04/11) and aawwww she is so tiny as she was 7lb 4oz and so adorable! (i was thinking blimey in a year time she be like my DD)

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 22/12/2005 10:21

maisie - ohh very organised about alfies food in plastic containers as baba will be having her 1st Xmas dinner with us

yes got all my pressies, but gotta wrap them up soon though - maybe tonite (or tmrw,,,or xmas eve)

maisiemog · 22/12/2005 22:41

Just bought a ridiculous reindeer outfit in Woollies, and it's not for me. It was reduced to £6 so I thought it wasn't too bad considering he's going to wear it for a few hours.
Alfie's so obsessed with buttons at the moment, he puts off the digibox then checks the tv to see if it's gone blank, so I put the digibox back on, then he puts it off and checks so I put it on...etc..
I have bought him a Tomy pretend mobile phone. He has ruined dp's phone, by sooking it. His dribble has stopped half the keypad from working, and we discovered that when dp can hear callers speaking, but they can't hear him - dribble.
Has anyone got a toy phone, what is like?
He was trying to switch off the washing machine this morning, then pressing the ignition for the gas cooker. One of these days 'Kabooom!'
Biglips 7lbs 4oz isn't tiny for a newborn, it's normal Alfie was a complete tot when he was born, so teeny. But you don't know anything when it's your first child. Unless it has large antlers, you kind of think everything's normal.
I haven't really thought about what Alfie's eating on Christmas day. I suppose I'll kind of mash up what we're having. Except we are having soup to start, I don't know what he will think of that.
What are you guys all doing?
Is it a big family thing, or is that your worst nightmare?
Who's cooking?

maisiemog · 23/12/2005 13:11

Alfie is now escaping from his cot and climbing into my bed. I was getting into bed last night, in the dark, when I felt a lump in the bed, I thought it was a pillow, but then realised it was Alfie curled up sleeping on my side of the bed.
Cheeky boy!!

huppa · 23/12/2005 14:52

maisiemog - Your ds sounds like a real little monkey.
It´s amazing how many babies find phones fascinating. I have to say that dd and now ds have never found a toy phone as interesting as a real one. It doesn´t seem to matter how colourful or how many noises the toy one makes - they just know it´s not the real thing. I don´t know the Tomy phone, but hopefully you´ll have more success than we did.

Ds starting taking a few steps about a week ago. He looks a bit like Frankenstein´s monster - he doesn´t seem to realise you´re supposed to bend your knees. Oh and he walks with his arms held out in front of him.

We´ve got my in-laws coming for the day (well evening actually because the Germans celebrate on the 24th). We did the same thing last year and it turned out much better than I expected, so here´s hoping it´s the same this year.

I hope you all have a relaxing and stress free Christmas.

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 23/12/2005 15:53

maisie - DP is cooking and ive made the Xmas pud.. baba is having the same as we are as nothing is mashed anymore unless its mashed potatoes

but she cant have the Xmas pud as its so loads of brandy in it so she'll have trifle instead with her big sister

i supposed 7lb 4oz is a good size as i cant see it cos my DD was 9lb 1oz when born and she is the same height as all the 2 yrs old!!

huppa - ha ha ha!! about your little one started to walk - hooray!

i had a major stress out time as my leccy had blown in the house and i couldnt figure how whats wrong with it.. leccy man came and he found the problem - my washing machine was causing the leccy to go out!! so machine is broke with full of clothes so im happy cos its only that and not the whole house !!!

KathH · 23/12/2005 20:39

I've been lumbered with the cooking - they'll be 10, us 6, my mum, my sister, her other half and my nephew.

Masiemog - that's why we have a leccy cooker!

Probably wont get a chance to come on here tomorrow so hope everyone and their little ones have a brill crimbo!

maisiemog · 24/12/2005 00:23

Aaargh! The shops are mad. Just went to Asda and it was like a trolleyjam, with mad trolley pushing.
Alfie went mad and screamed loudly for most of the event, attracting lots of attention from old ladies, which he loved. He's such a flirt/tart!
I'm kind of in charge of the cooking, we only have five: my mum and dad and big bruv, dp and Alf. I can't get my head round giving him the same size food as us, I just think he would try to swallow it all whole. I see his nappies!!! He just puts great big bits of things in his mouth, it's ridiculous! Then he sits there like a mad hamster.
Mind you that's how dp eats as well. I'm often stunned at how much he shoves in his mouth. " You could have cut that up you know"
I'm like a slow eater and I chew and chew and only eat little bits, so Alfie doesn't take after me.
Huppa I like your frankenstein baby description. I still walk like that.
Alfie used to walk like a man that was thrown out of a pub on a Saturday night. You know those ones you have to get past on the way home, and you don't know which side to pass on, in case they suddenly stagger sideways, and land on you?

jinglebadbells · 24/12/2005 10:35

got ds's results from the eye tests. his eyeballs are fine and the optic nerve is passing info through but really slowly. they dont know if it gets processed after that, i spose it could be worse like him not seeing anything but they were really bright strobe effect lights.

oh and he is quite poorly just in time for xmas and has a chest infection. poor bugger

merry xmas to everyone and hope santa brings you all that you wish for x x

geogteach · 24/12/2005 20:11

Happy Christmas everyone.
We just got back from church where DS1 was a shepherd, DD an angel and DS2 played with the dog pooh he found on the wheels of his buggy - revolting child!
We are having lunch at my mums so DS2 will just get whatever is going, boxing day is here and i've made vats of soup so he'll be getting that. Hope they all sleep in tomorrow

maisiemog · 24/12/2005 21:23

Merry Christmas to everyone. Alfie has been up wailing and making a fuss with his teeth - which I can't see, but he assures me are there. I gave him all the medicine, but he was a bit excited, as his granny took him to John Lewis and bought him a pair of shoes for walking about outside. Plus his uncle is here and has been throwing him up in the air.
Jbad, that's good that you had the results, not sure what that all means, but if the signal is getting through that can't be bad can it? I'm sure he was looking at me in that photo!
It must be hard for doctors to deal with babies, I mean they can't very well ask them to read out a sight chart or anything. I hope he is feeling better soon and give him a big hug from Alfie and me.
I tried giving Alf, unmashed food, but I think the chicken was a bit tough for him, especially as he's teething. And when I changed his nappy there were whole peas! I don't think he can digest, or benefit from food that big, so I'm going to keep mashing for while. He still only has front teeth officially - his molar is a teeny stump, which looks pretty useless.
It's funny he is happy to eat an oatcake or cheese on toast.
SO it's mashed up food tomorrow for Alfie the Reindeer.
I'll try to make sure he doesn't get too close to his pram wheels, just in case Geo!!
Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!!

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 27/12/2005 20:18

hope everyone had a good xmas as we did... and i filmed baba opening her pressies.. she had got lots of books, aquadraw, car (that she sits on it and pushes herself along - but she cant do that yet though), clothes, loads of stuff. Since Xmas day, her afternoons naps had been all over the place but her bedtimes are still in order (phew!) and my bedtimes are all over the place

hotmulledwinemama · 27/12/2005 20:28

Hiya Oct04 girls - haven't posted for a while, been busy on the Feb06 thread - am now in my 36th week.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. DD1 had a trike from us and other bits and pieces - she didn't have any crap pressies - which was good! Videoed dd on Xmas morning - very cute - I do look a bit of a heffer!

Anyone finding sleeping patterns going to pot? Dd always has been a good sleeper but has decided to start waking at 3.30/4.30 - I'm having to resort to giving her milk to get her back to sleep - never had to do this before - don't want to be setting a precedent. As you can imagine any sleep I am getting at the moment is blimmin precious! Any advice is welcome.

Hope everyone is keeping well.

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 28/12/2005 18:22

hiya hotmama - 36 weeks already... do you know what youre having - i know a baby of course but what sex? lol

DP videoed my DD too as i was helping her to unwrapped the pressies, she was all "ooh", "ohh", "aah" BUT she didnt have any xmas dinner as she was too busy playing with her uncle in her car that her uncle had bought her..

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 28/12/2005 18:23

the only time baba is waking up lately is when her molars are coming thru, which still is now, so i rock her back to sleep or sometimes give her a bottle

hotmulledwinemama · 28/12/2005 21:35

Hi again! Having another dd (had another CVS so I know for definite) Evie is the front runner at the moment.

I think dd may be teething - she still only has 2 teeth and only got those at 11 months. She didn't go to bed until 8pm this evening so I am crossing my fingers that she will sleep through.

mum2sam · 28/12/2005 22:13

Thats a lovely name HMW. Sams naps are all over the place at the min since his molars have come through. It seems to be that he is cutting down and having a afternoon nap and not a morning nap.Although ive resorted to rocking him to sleep whilst listening to MTV which he loves ;)

maisiemog · 31/12/2005 01:07

Hi all,
36 weeks eh Hotmama?! Getting close now. How are you feeling about it?
My cousin has just had a little girl called Eve and we also have a friend whose baby was born a month after Alfie whose little girl is called Eva, so Evie is a new one.
There was a little boy called Alfie at Ikea recently, that was funny for our Alfie.
He currently has a cold, it's only his second ever and it's not very bad, but he does have a runny nose. I used one of those snot removers on him (uck!) and it was amazing!!! Couldn't believe it worked. He sneezed on me tonight when I was feeding him, bleeuch!
I'm finding Alfie a bit difficult to feed again. He hates sitting in his chair for more than five minutes. He will eat finger foods, but at the moment he is eating a bit and then chucking the rest on the floor. He quite likes a bit of a jar, which I find annoying - too expensive and I want him to eat similar stuff to us.
The only thing I can rely on him to sit and eat is cereal with raisins and banana in the morning.
It's probably his teeth/cold, but he is just not all that interested in food. Is anyone else finding toddlers are too busy to eat?
We're currently looking into buying a new bigger carseat, as he has a group0+ which does, theoretically up to 18months. We don't have Isofix so it would be a backseat seatbelt job. We are thinking of the Mamas and Papas Protec. Anyone tried it?
Also new mattress or bed. I don't suppose anyone has a memory foam bed? I tried one in hossie and thought it was divine. However, I have heard they can be hot and sweaty - which would be a nightmare for dp. He would get stuck to the bed.
I'm looking forward to normal eating again, currently living on turkish delight and cheese straws, because we bought so much 'party food' before Christmas.

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 01/01/2006 09:52

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 01/01/2006 09:54

Maisie - no i havent tried the Mamas and Papas Protec. if you wants, just start a new thread and see whats comes up

baba sometimes flung foods off her table when she is full but other than that, she scoff the lot.. i made her cheese on toast yesterday which she loves stripping the cheese off the toast and then eat the toast

maisiemog · 01/01/2006 20:41

Happy New Year!!!
We did very little, I wasn't even very interested in the whole new year/hogmanay thing. It's massive in Edinburgh and they have a Christmas and Hogmanay extravaganza starting a few weeks before Christmas.
However, I now think that Christmas is an altogether better event for families, it's during the day, everyone is reasonably sober and there is a lot of food and wrapping paper.
New year, starts at midnight, not much food, everyone's plastered and there's no wrapping paper in sight.
Alfie ate quite a lot today, and sat at the table with mashed up food. He's still quite hit and miss though, he had a late lunch then didn't want anything later. I really can't be bothered with worrying about a fussy eater.
Maybe Alfie will be one of those people that eats for fuel and that's it, he's a very slim little boy, with a cute teeny bum. He does have quite a few poopy nappies a day, so hopefully he's getting more than would seem apparent. I think he eats pretty healthily, apart from when we took him to Ikea the other day, where there is no decent food for babies - fish and chips.
I'll probably end up on House of tiny tums with Alfie and his 20 yoghurt a day diet.
Biglips, I've been looking at the other threads and I think we'll probably go with that seat, it has good reviews.

cazzybabs · 03/01/2006 15:19

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!!!!

Hope you all had a good one! Gracce did very well - got lots of pressies - but prefers her big sisters! We went home to my parents for 2 weeks which was great - looked after well - although it took grace 4 days to get use to sleeping in a strange bed. The 1st few days she slept in ours - well slept a little feed alot - cue two very tired parents! She refused to sleep in the day at all and was going to bed about 11-12pm and then sleeping through to 9! Still sent her off to nursery today while I write reports (cough read mumsnet!) and have eaten 10 chocolate biscuits - god I am never going to fit my wedding dress!
