Well other than Saoirse86 and JodeyBogeyPicker everyone who is going will have to travel to this one. Perhaps if wasn't such a good idea after all, seems that very few want to travel with their babies and most will have to spend a few hours travelling no matter where we have it. Sorry for Saoirse86 that she's gone to the trouble of organising for all those who said they could go on that date when we initially discussed it. I have taken the day off now so am happy to go ahead but also fine if the few who are going want to give it a miss.

Hope Orlaith is feeling better now and that she continues to drink the water, which will hopefully help.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend, hopefully off swimming again tomorrow.

FriggFRIGG · 11/02/2011 20:13

ohhh, cinnamon i do really want to go,and im happy to travel! i'll have a rummage for the funds...Smile

lumpybananapuree · 11/02/2011 20:57

cinnamon I don't mind travelling I'd just rather have dh with me! I didn't realise how far birmingham was till I looked into getting there! I think you're a similar distance to me, 2.5-3 hours! I can't stay over cos my parents can only have toby for the day (and finances don't allow!) Not sure any sane person would like 2 x 3 hours in train or car in one day with a 5 month old!!!

lumpybananapuree · 11/02/2011 21:00

Please can someone advise re milk & solids??

Olly seems to be dropping his mid morning feed. only had 1.5oz today. He was also projectile sick on his bedtime bottle.

I'm wondering if I've rushed the weaning a bit.

lumpybananapuree · 11/02/2011 21:02

Oh and saoirse another sign of dehydration is if their soft spot is sunken! how much milk does she have?

SeaChelles · 11/02/2011 21:07

Lumpy - maybe he just had something today that didn't agree with him? (RE: the projectile) and I wouldn't worry about the dropping a bottle as long as he is eating well - if hes likes food he likes food! And as far as you've told me he is still having a good amount of milk.

Maybe this time just feels a bit different for you because Tobster didn't wean as quick and was a lot smaller than Olly-Bols.

I also agree re the travelling alone, specially when you've not done it before! Can be frightening just the thought of it! And how tired you'd be after - haha! Extra wine needed!! Wink

comixminx · 11/02/2011 21:21

Sorry I've been out of the loop over the discussions for the meetup... I can make the 24th, Birmingham's not that far away from Oxford by train, though what time of day are we thinking of and where is the pub exactly?

That would make it:
Can come:
saoirse86 + Orlaith
cinnamongreyhound + Luke (+ ds1?)
mapletrees + Louis
Jodeybogeypicker + Harlyn
Jodey's friend + LO
aswellasyou + Imara
jessemyparkson + Mary + DS
comixminx + Aphra

Can't come:
Debs75
SeChelles
Lumpybananapuree
BeaditAli
Newmum001
Mellymooks

Maybe:
Patito

saoirse86, how worrying re the poo & dehydration! Hope it eases very soon. You mentioned the dehydration before - do you know how it comes to be that she's dehydrated - has she dropped some feeds or something?

cinnamongreyhound · 11/02/2011 21:23

Totally respect that it's not easy travelling just felt a bit sad that so many have changed their minds that's all. Don't spend your last pennies friggFRIGG!

lumpybananapuree I have a friend who's baby was tiny, he's really taken off since starting to wean. Just wasn't a milky baby and he's now putting on weight faster now and he only has 2 bottles a day at 7 months. They're all different but if you're only giving veg/baby rice I can't see it's too fast. Not a lot to react badly to really perhaps he's got a bug? Luke is sick more some days than others, although he's not a very sicky baby.

How's daytime naps going SeaChelles?

lumpybananapuree · 11/02/2011 21:28

Cinnamon Your friends baby sounds like Toby! I have only given veg & fruit. Wondered if I was giving him too much! he's having 3 meals & I wonder if he was just so full of mush he had to make room!

SeaChelles · 11/02/2011 21:29

Cinammon - day time napping pretty much the same, although he has had one nap on the beanbag and one nap in his swing this week. I haven't tried to hard since Tuesday as he has been really poorly after his injections so didnt have the heart to make him cry even more... Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 11/02/2011 21:34

Been lucky with both boys SeaChelles, never had any probs with jabs. Poor little man.

Still only giving Luke food once a day lumpybananapuree but then he's only just started to enjoy it. His little arms and legs go now when he sees the pot Grin

SeaChelles · 11/02/2011 21:38

I know cinammon, he just had really high temp, which i controlled with calpol - but thats got now. Still got lumps in his legs where the needles went it though... Sad He was ace with the other two - just these last ones that hit him.

Just picturiing Luke waving his little arms about in excitement! Haha.

Oooh Olly held out his arms to me yesterday to be picked up for a snuggle! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 11/02/2011 21:45

Very Envy! I put my hands out to Luke before I pick him up and he gets excited but never does it back :(

newmum001 · 11/02/2011 22:08

lumpy - some HV's came round today for a routine chat about weaning and when i said we'd started already she said it was fine as long as she doesn't drop milk feeds until 6 months ish, she said to give milk first and solids after which we have been doing to make sure that they get the calories from milk before they're full up on food. However on her mid morning feed Grace had an ounce today and refused to have anymore but wolfed her porridge down 10 mins later so i gave her 2 bowls of porridge and left that bottle and she seemed fine, i don't intend to make a habit of it as i don't really want her dropping a bottle feed yet but i was on my way out for my driving lesson and didn't want her being a pain for my mum if she was hungry!

I must say i feel a lot calmer about weaning now i've had a chat with a HV. She said everything we've done so far is right which i was very relieved about but info online really does vary so much i just felt completely clueless. I am going to have a mamouth puree session this weekend as i feel a bit guilty giving grace jars.

Grace has now got 2 teeth, they're just popping out all over the place now. I can't wait till they're properly through she's gonna look so cute with 2 bottom teeth!!

JodeyBogeyPicker · 12/02/2011 09:11

I defo think the meet should go ahead as there are still 8 of us + LO's. And there is no guarantee that if we did another date location that more peeps could make it.

Lumpybanan RE weaning and milk. I can only go on what Harlyn takes and this is it:

7:30 ish 8oz milk
8:15 ish 2 desert spoons of porridge mixed with x1 ice cubed pureed pear
11:00 ish 8oz milk
3:00 ish 8oz milk
5:00 ish x3 ice cubed root veg mix
6:30 ish 8oz milk

He always polishes off everything milk & solids. He is always a little bit sick but not half as bad since we have upped the gaviscon doses due to his reflux.

Went to see our annual school musical last night which was awesome. Ended up chatting with the head about my return to work. I love my job but am a bit worried about the stress of trying to be a good teacher and a mommy!!! I have always put my heart and soul into the kids at school by dedicating loads of time for extra rehearsals, after school drama clubs, extra coursework session, sunday and school holiday rehearsals for examination etc. I know when I go back my priorities will have obviously changed. I will want to get back to see my baba and am worried that my teaching standards will suffer. This I'm sure is part and parcel of being a working mom but I can't help thinking about how I'm going to juggle such a demanding job and being a good mommy to Harlyn. I have decided to go back full time for the last half term and then am reducing to 3.5 days in September. Think this will ease the pressure a little. Confused

JessemyParkson · 12/02/2011 09:35

Frigg am I right in thinking you're in shelved? Would it be easier/cheaper for you to get to swindon? We could go together by car then

lumpybananapuree · 12/02/2011 12:32

Thanks everyone. Although sometimes I think they just do these things to keep you on your toes! He's had seconds at breakfast, 4oz (cos thats all I made, would've probably had more)& lunch. I've just put him to bed and realised he's not actually cried all morning! Shock

newmum don't feel guilty for giving Grace jars. Toby was pretty much weaned on to jars because I just couldn't get the puree right (and I weaned too soon) so he wouldn't eat anything but. He's the absolute best eater I know now and thats not me boasting, everyone says they wish their los ate like him! He eat absolutely everything you give him! He's not overweight (he's on the 9th centile) and so far he has no allergies.

ooooh! just seen this! Brew I'd have one but we've no milk! No Wine either. looks like I'm off to Tesco!

I love my babies!

sassy34264 · 12/02/2011 12:47

God you lot can talk!!!! Grin

I've got no chance of reading 36 pages in one day!

Hello.......again.

I've come to my mum's for the day. DP is sanding the hall and the stairs and it is going to be very dusty, so we are camped here. I tried reading from the beginning and the i worked backwards, but had to stop to breast feed and then decided i will just post before i carry on.

Quick update on me and the babies. We are all well. The christening went well. Everyone said it was a brilliant day. It bypassed me though, as i have managed to get both babies into a routine since i have moved and they where totally out of it on the day and both cried and cried....cue me very hot and bothered, not drinking and spending very little time chatting with friends and family.....oh well.

I managed (don't ask me how) to have the babies in bed by 11.30 every night by the end of the first week at the new house (from 1pm) and by week 3 it was 7-7.30 (which it still is) Was very proud of myself i can tell you. Smile

Weaning is going ok. Yogurts, porridge, baby rice, and carrots are all good. Broccoli, sweet potato and potato not so good. Just bought a blender today, so going to blend some chicken in with the veg.

Babies are 6 months exactly tomorrow!!!!!

Not sure when we will have internet yet as we still haven't even set the telly up. (we decided against it, so we would spend more time with DC's. Right i'm off on a mammoth read! will be here till about 4pm. x

saoirse86 · 12/02/2011 12:54

Ooooh Brew and Biscuit what a good idea! And Wine tonight Grin

lumpy Orlaith's soft spot has gone now so can't check that. She has about 25oz a day which I know is less than she's supposed to have but I just can't get her to take more.
Since having the constipation issue on Thursday, we're now having the opposite problem, she can't stop pooing and they're all sloppy! Yuck! I only gave her that one bottle of water on thursday so it can't be that I've given her too much water Confused

Well she's obviously not feeling so bad now, she managed to roll from back to front for the first time this morning. She's been trying since just after xmas and only just managed it! She was trying to get her toy. I've noticed this week she's suddenly become much more into toys. She does the arms and legs flapping when I show her a toy. It's so cute Grin !

saoirse86 · 12/02/2011 13:05

Sorry sassy crossed posts!

I am so jealous impressed with you getting Jacob and Isobel into a night time routine considering it seemed it was quite difficult for you a while ago.

I'm glad to hear the christening went well even if it was a bit stressful for you.

I was thinking today about how the twins will be 6 months tomorrow because they were born the day after my cousin's LO. He's 6 months today and about 6lb 10oz because he was 13 weeks early, poor little thing! We've all been comparing weights recently, how big are your two now?

The not sorting the tv seems like a really good idea. On the days when our internet's not working I do think I'm a better mum because I'm not messing about on MN or ebay or whatever!

Good to hear from you anyway!

cinnamongreyhound · 12/02/2011 18:03

Good to hear from you sassy34264, sorry the christening was stressful but glad everyone enjoyed it. I always find you build things up and that makes it's stressful in itself! Glad weaning is going well, Luke had avocado today and liked it but I had to mix it with my milk as it was too thick for him.

Have had a really lazy day today, didn't get dressed until 12! Then we walked into the town and had a cuppa and cake in the little portugese cafe.

lumpybananapuree · 12/02/2011 18:59

Hey Sassy nice to hear from you. We miss you!

Saoirse 25oz is fine. Toby used to average 17oz! I worried like mad & he turned out ok!

I know a lot of you are using the annabel kamel book, but does anyone have a favourite tried and tested recipe?

I'm going now. Going on a "date" with dh! Wine, candle light & good food. (in the kitchen) He's working late on Monday so its our valentines meal!

cinnamongreyhound · 12/02/2011 19:21

ds1's favourite from that book was the lovely lentils. Also the one-pot chicken and creamy chicken and vegetables were good too. He also loved the quick rice pudding and I used to put the dried apricots that it suggests in it. Have fun lumpybananapuree!

saoirse86 I'm much more of a fan of Brew and Biscuit than Wine

SeaChelles · 12/02/2011 19:27

Nice to hear from you Sassy - glad to hear both you and the babies are well.
Smile
Olly's sleep seems to be getting worse again. We had a whole week and a bit of 7pm-7am and now its all gone to shit! He's been waking more and more all the past week and was up with him no less than 4 times last night. Got so upset and am now knackered. I know he's a baby etc etc etc.... but when you know they can do a full 12 hours (for over a week straight and numerous times before!) it's so upsetting and frustrating!Sad

He's in bed now and oh joy the neighbours have started drilling! I will kill soon....I mean it! You'll see me on the news! "Mum of one hammers neighbours testicles to wall!"....Angry

On a lighter note Olly was a dream this evening, no tears or whining just lots of giggles for mummy. He has started getting so excited when he see's me, waving his legs and arms about, so cute.

Olly - 20wks 2moro.x
