Cinnamon ditto what Maple said! You've done & are doing fantastically well. Olly's only just started sleeping through (although he's ff, I can count on 1 hand the number of night feeds dh did!) & I'm just starting to feel a little more human. How you've managed it with working too is something to be proud of.

SeaChelles · 07/02/2011 10:33

Tips on getting Olly to sleep on anything other than me in the day much appreciated! He's great at going down night so dont want to confuse/ruin that - but help wanted!

Catch up properly later - cinnamon you are fab - don't worry it will get better....xxx

comixminx · 07/02/2011 10:57

Also having a few sleep problems here - she's taken to waking up properly at 7ish, meaning I don't get a rest in the morning after having got up several times in the night! She's only just started doing it and I'm not sure if it's a real change in pattern or if she's not entirely well as she is a bit more fretful than usual. She did have a bad cold recently so I was thinking of taking her to the GP just to rule anything dodgy like an ear infection out. A bit PFB maybe?

cinnamon, i third what the others have said - if you do end up giving a bottle at night it's not a failure, at all. I asked on another thread about weaning and going to work and stuff and people pointed out that once you start introducing foodstuffs in weaning, you can think of formula as just another foodstuff...

I have some friends, a couple, who are both second children and who are very definite that they want to treat their first and second born exactly the same as far as possible. However, I think you have to be able to make different decisions for the different kids & situations, so long as you try to be fair overall. Do the best you can and don't stress too much.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/02/2011 12:27

Thank you all, mapletrees you had me in tears!! I did think that about formula comixminx, but it still feels wrong somehow when I have the milk there. I am more realistic than your friends! It doesn't matter which order you arrive in there are always positives and negatives to each position.

Be careful what you wish for..... I got this morning off after all, as I had to visit A&E with ds1! He fell straight on his forehead on the way to school and split it open :(. We're home now watching CBeebies with his new Zooble, a sprikly doughnut and a fruit shoot so he's very happy!!! I have aged about 10 years and am looking forward to my bedtime more than ever!

lumpybananapuree · 07/02/2011 12:43

Oh no cinnamon not the kind of morning of you wanted tho! Hope he's ok. Whats a Zooble????? Could you not express & give from a bottle at night?

Its not possible to treat the 2nd exactly as the 1st because you could give your 1st your absolute undivided attention. Its a fact of like that the 2nd has to share that attention! what with 2 children and mn its a real fight!! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 07/02/2011 13:04

But the second gets the advantage of a more experienced Mummy lumpybananapuree! This is a Zooble, they're advertised everyday on Milkshake! I could express but I need 2-3 sessions of expressing to make one feed and it's just more faffing and not sure what it would do to my supply.

Luke had egg today, his second EAT study food and he loved it!!!!

JodeyBogeyPicker · 07/02/2011 20:01

Hiya ladies.

Cinnamon I can only echo what others have already said about how fantastic you have done/are doing with BF. In the long run, you have to do what's best for both you and Luke and if giving him a bottle will help you both sleep longer through the night then surely that's a good thing and nothing to feel guilty about though I know that probably doesn't help. Also, can't believe that you spent your morning off in A&E, hope your DS1 is ok, poor thing.

Well, Harlyn was fab at swimming yesterday and didn't seem to mind being dunked. Don't think he really understood what had happened, he just looked a little confused. He also had his last jabs today and was really brave. He only started to really cry when he heard another baby crying! So funny, it was like sympathy crying. Also got him weighed and measured and it looks like he's had another growth spurt. He measured at 66cm (75th) and 18lbs 13 ounce (91st). I asked the HV if this kind of constant weight gain was normal and she said they don't tend to worry unless they go off the scale. He's such a chunky monkey.

Saisore I cant believe your in-laws, bloody shocking, particularly because you had ony just discussed how you were waiting to wean. That's so out of order.

Chelle Harlyn doesn't sleep well during the day either but sleeps right through the night. In the day i try all sorts from putting him in his cot to pushing him in his pushchair in the kitchen with a blanket blocking out the light and the extractor fan on. This seems to work well. I can usually get him to sleep but he wakes after 20-30 mins. Nightmare.

newmum001 · 07/02/2011 21:02

Hi all, not had chance to catch up but got exciting news...

Grace has got a tooth!!!!! She's been really moody and clingy the last couple of days and slept loads today and she grabbed my finger before and put it straight onto her brand spanking new tooth. I was nearly crying Grin

I'll catch up tomorrow, sorry if i've missed anything important!

One Born Every Minute is on now, my fave time of the week!

JodeyBogeyPicker · 07/02/2011 21:31

Congratulations Newmum, its lovely isn't it. Harlyn was exactly the same, all clingy and moody. Bless em x

MammyG · 07/02/2011 21:45

Cinnamon You know how much I sympathise with you! You are doing such a super job. I have 3 and its never the same - that is not such a bad thing! Max was rushed on in so many ways cause I had to juggle so much but a) he has an older brother he worships and is great friends with and b) I made up for it in other ways that are now the cornerstone of our relationship.
When I was wrecked with ds2 I got Dh to give him the 10/11pm bottle. I found I was shattered about 8pm so was easy for me to fall straight off to sleep then (instead of getting second wind at 10pm then being up til midnight!) I would then wake up at 3/4am and do that feed but I still got a good run of sleep which suited me. and Dh would finish up whatever needed to be done (lunches etc) in return for sleeping thru the night!
chelle I spent a week with all 3 training them into daytime sleep. Did it with Phoebe over xmas. Started putting her down in same place so she associated it with sleep, darkened room etc. Then when she came into a light sleep and was about to wake up I took her into bed with me and snuggled her til she slept. I stayed with her and by the end of the week she was used to sleeping 2 hours. Every day she goes down now somewhere between 12 and 1 and sleeps for about 2.5 hrs. Thats with the boys around the house! Obviously needed to do it when DH was around so he would entertain others while I had a lovely nap worked hard on her sleeping!

I have no news - lost in a haze of purees and nappies! Phoebe has second set of jabs today. Seems alright so far! Have a wedding later in the week aso will be gone for 3 days as is on other side of the country. Next few days will be spent getting ready for going away - men never have to do that!!
Also one of my friends is leaving and moving to another town Sad dont have many friends around here that I can visit etc and who has children same age as mine so will be a bit lost without her. beadit really jealouse of all your lovely neighbours, would love to live where everyone just popped in etc

lumpybananapuree · 07/02/2011 21:53

newmum thats great news. she's really suffered with her teeth hasn't she bless her. I hope she gets some respite now its through!!

Ollys dribbly & chewing but no sign yet!!

JodeyBogeyPicker · 07/02/2011 22:07

Think the new thread should have some sort of dribble and chewing reference.

Debs75 · 08/02/2011 09:15

Cinnamon Give the expressing a go, it will benefit your supply as well as giving you a bottle of milk for baby. And things always seem worse when you have little sleep.

Lucy had sweet potato 'chips' and broccoli on Sunday. She liked the sweet potato but wasn't keen on the broccoli.

Debs, the expressing may help boost supply but only if it's not instead of a feed, or at least that's my understanding from reading stuff here on MN. I agree with cinnamon that expressing is a faff - I'd rather give a ff bottle but just not do it often / regularly, just so I could catch up on sleep in the interim. Horses for courses though!

Aphra hasn't yet properly started weaning but she did stick both hands into my bowl of muesli this morning Grin

Aphra 23 + 6

Debs75 · 08/02/2011 10:59

If you express enough for a feed over the course of a day and do that for several days before you use it for a night feed then you won't affect your supply. how about getting him to settle her after the feed rather than you doing it you might find that is enough for now. I found the settling after a feed was more tiring.

patito · 08/02/2011 11:21

Morning all

cinnamon hope that things are looking up today, and that Luke is Ok. Cant say more than whats being said, but you always have good sound advice for us all, what would you tell one of us?

My big news this week, Im an Aunty again! well actually last week, but have been away so couldn´t get to internet. Little Joesph was born on Friday. My sister went into Labour in the early hours phoned the hospital, they told her to stay at home for a while longer, she went off to brush her teeth and felt his head. The midwife was there in 4 minutes and she was 9 cm Shock. Cant wait to meet him.

Only two weeks to go till am back in beautiful Barnsley Hmm. Has been way too long and am feeling really homesick now. I love where I live but miss my family/friends, especially now with little ones around.

Saoirse My Dp did the same thing last week Blush. I told him aboutr Maia loving the celemintine segment and the next day whilst I was out he fed her half a biscuit Angry. His response was that its OK for me to feed her stuff but not him. Hmm lets see clementine v. biscuit for 5 mth old?

JodeyBogeyPicker · 08/02/2011 11:31

Congratulations patio, lovely news.

cinnamongreyhound · 08/02/2011 12:49

It is the timing more than anything debs75, finding time in the course of a day to express three times not too close to a feed and when I am at home and all the children don't need anything is really hard but I don't really want to give formula either comixminx I think my supply is pretty well established but I was meaning over supply really. I don't have a problem settling him, he usually falls back to sleep feeding and I just put him down. He was only up at 11 and 2 and then 7.30 which was great!! Plus I went to bed at 9.30, will watch one born every minute on 4od tonight as dh was watching some ship program!!

Congratulations patito I'm so jealous! My brother is way off having children :(

SeaChelles ds1 was the same he napped longer as he got older and I did use controlled crying for his daytime naps at about 6 months. I know a lot of people don't agree with it but within a week he could settle himself to sleep and no more crying. I was more worried about it with him as I was sending him to Childminder and was happier with him crying with me than with her. I think MammyG's suggestion sounds great though!

SeaChelles · 08/02/2011 13:57

Thanks for sleep advice guys - going to start trying some of the techniques next week. on the plus side he did fall asleep all by himself in his swing this morning for half hour. Smile

Just been for 3rd jabs - not a tear in sight! Brave boy! He's having a nap (yes on me!) now.

Got him weighed too and he is 17lb 7oz!

Olly - 19wks 2 days.

lumpybananapuree · 08/02/2011 16:02

17lb 7oz Chelle!!!! little porker, he'll dwarf my Olly! Gonna get him weighed tomorrow!

Mind you, the way he's going with his eating he's going to be piling on the weight. I tried him with lunch today because he's been unsettled around that time. I can't believe how much he eats. he wolfs it down. I've never seen a baby who eats normally before! I love it! He also sat unsupported at toddlers. my babys growing up!

Olly 23 weeks today

JodeyBogeyPicker · 08/02/2011 17:12

Fab weight for Olly Chelle, looks are our boys are the chunky monkeys of the group, lol. I was in shock on Monday when I got him weighed. Thought he would of had at least a little dip on the centile by now but he just keeps climbing up and up. He'll be off scale if he keeps having these weight growth spurts. hopefully next one will be a length one to even it all out. Grin I just love his chunky thighs.

SeaChelles · 08/02/2011 19:21

Lol...jodey & banana - he's not that chunky! Grin Just heavy! Its all the damn food he eats! He is only on the 75th percentile though...which he has been since he was born.

I think the average weight for our babies ages (so 50th percentile) is between 15.5lbs and 16lbs. So he's doing really well. I'm 5 foot eight and DP is 6 foot 3 - so Olly was never going to be a little boy! Grin

Am thinking of introducing lunch soon too.

Olly spent a lovely half hour in his Tigger Bouncer earlier banana!!!! He says thank you very much and he'll give you a big kiss soon!!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/02/2011 19:28

Luke was 16lb 12oz at 20 weeks SeaChelles and he's just below 75th centile. Ds1 was 19lb 9oz at 19 weeks, now that's chunky Wink

SeaChelles · 08/02/2011 19:33

OMG cinammon! Hehehe - chunky DS1! Just goes to show how different all the babies are doesn't it! They are ALL such different sizes!

Olly has the fattest little thighs!! I just want to bite them!! But dont worry I won't!!
