FriggFRIGG · 03/02/2011 08:56

we arent weaning yet either,Arlo is 5 months tomorow thoughShock so we will probably start in the next few weeks!

Aaahhhhhhh my baby,my little tiny baby!!!
im not ready for him to be on solids yet!

maple that study was a pile of shite...but you are right, there havent been enough studies either way.
i was more annoyed because i knew what some people would take from it,and i was right, met a pregnant lady yesterday who said,"oh im not going to try to breastfeed the baby, after that study said bfing could be harmful"Hmm
im ashamed to say i exploded a ton of information at herBlush you know me,cant keep my big mouth shutBlush

lumpybananapuree · 03/02/2011 09:58

FriggFrigg LOVE the name change!! I con't believe they're old enough to be on solids yet.

Maple I was going to wait till 6 months too but after all that hoo haa we decided to go for 5 months & take it slowly. That and the fact the he seemed to be showing signs of being ready.

Last nights puree was, true to my name, slightly lumpy & although there was the odd gag, he still wolfed it down.

Swimming today then out for tea tonight. really looking forward to it! Hope everyone had a good day!

Olly 22 weeks

JodeyBogeyPicker · 03/02/2011 10:07

How anyone can even suggest that BF could be harmful! this really pisses me off! Its the only 100% natural way to feed a baby what it needs. I totally understand that it doesn't suit everyone and think its great that there are alternatives out there, gosh, Cow & Gate comfort was a life saver for me but how anyone could even suggest that BM is harmful just gets my back up!!!! AAAaaarrggh! Sorry for the wee rant but I was too late at reading all the old posts on this article thought I'd have my pennies worth now! Grin

morning all x

FriggFRIGG · 03/02/2011 10:29

morning jodey my feelings exactly...but i wont start ranting again BlushGrin

glad you like the new name....i love itGrin

mellymooks · 03/02/2011 11:31

Hello lovely ones!!
We're not weaning yet either here.
Second and third emotions on BF comments knew people would react this way I still find it amazing how people will just blindly believe what the news says without looking into it more deeply....

Getting bugger all sleep still here starting to slowly kill me now and is taking all my resolve to stick at just BF but really want to try and keep going a few more weeks so different to DD whom I fed til 13 months can't see me managing to keep going that long this time, he's so big and strong it's getting physically difficult to feed him.

Happy Thursday everyone xxxx

beaditAli · 03/02/2011 11:45

You go FriggFRIGG sounds like a craaaaaaazy woman anyway! Why on earth would you not even try to bf??

last jabs here today and the little weirdo actually smiled at the nurse after a little moan. Grin

beaditAli · 03/02/2011 12:07

Oh cinnamon I couldn't be bothered to have him weighed as he was enjoying the sensory room too much. I'll get him weighed next week and let you know!
Jack and Daisy going on a sunny, romantic walk together soon! Grin

Seachelle & lumpy ....... need an fbook evening soon! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 03/02/2011 12:09

You don't ever have to give him a bottle Dixiebell! I put ds1 straight onto a beaker and other than a few times when I went out and one feed a day at childminders of expressed milk from 6-9 months he didn't have a bottle.

The negativity towards bfing amazes me but I think a lot of it is on defensiveness from those who feel guilty/critised/sad that they aren't bfing. I don't understand why all mums can't just support each others choices!

Luke is 7.62kg/16 lb 12oz

Debs75 · 03/02/2011 12:29

Well I gave Lucy guacamole on a bit of cucumber this morning. Is that wacky enough?
She really enjoyed it but is now covered in green mush. I will try Aldi and get some sweet potatoes and butternut squash then roast them into chip sized pieces and she can poke herself in the face with that.Grin

That study is a load of shite. It tried to say that if you bf exclusively for 6 months with no weaning then you haven't given then any tastes to give immunity to. But when you bf trace amounts go through your milk so they do get some foods. This can help prevent allergies. And the study wasn't even a study it was basically a hunchAngry Things like this just worry people and they then don't know what to do.

mapletrees · 03/02/2011 12:40

I totally agree jodey, but what's doubly stupid is that the original article doesn't even say that bfing is dangerous (I'm not defending it, as clearly it's not quite the comprehensive review of the evidence it first appears to be) in fact the 2nd paragraph starts
"It is important not to confuse the evidence for promoting six months' breast feeding with that for breast feeding itself, which is extensive and not considered here."
It's yet another example of headline grabbing journalists over-interpreting/twisting things to make them more sensational, but now I'm about to get onto one of my pet rants and I don't want to bore you all to death Grin. I do think the authors of the original article could have foreseen how it would be reported in the mainstream press as it's hardly the first time, and as most people only see what's on tv/in the newspaper they should have considered the impact it might have.

Sorry to go on, but I'll only say 1 more thing and then I promise to drop it Grin. The article also calls for looking at the age of introducing solids to formula fed babies, as most studies look at only ebf babies, and while many babies are ff, either though parental choice or necessity, then I think they too deserve to be studied to try to work out what is best for them (so long as the results are reported responsibly).

Right, will shut up now Grin

mapletrees · 03/02/2011 12:42

Sorry x-posts debs

Humm, guacamole...

cinnamongreyhound · 03/02/2011 13:25

Quick unbabyrelated question for you. Have any of you come across play rangers? Do you know what qualifications they have? There is one that comes to the toddler group we visit in the local leisure centre. I'm not a big fan anyway so am wondering if I'm just biased! I take the children to groups to allow them to mix with other children and for them to play together without too much intervention from me. I spend a lot of time with the children when at home and I think it does them a lot of good to learn to play together and they get a lot from interacting with each other that they can't get from playing with me. She does a lot of things that make me think she isn't very well trained. A simple example is that when the children are playing with play dough she takes things away from them and says do it like this instead of letting them do it themselves as this is a much more effective method of them learning fine motor skills. She also brings a parachute which is great but she lays it over the goals and has the children running around underneath it and I am so worried about them getting caught in the net. Anyway today she started a game where they were throwing balls at each other, which is exactly the kind of thing I teach my children not to do. A bit later I looked over to find one of my mindees with a biscuit, he told me he got it from her. I said it would be better to ask she said why does he have an allergy. No he doesn't but could easily have, but mainly I would never give someone elses child anything to eat without asking! Am I overreacting?

FriggFRIGG · 03/02/2011 15:51

cinnamon ive never heard of them, and id be furious.

melly ive been missing you!Smile
im feeling really tired too, physically and emotionally drained,id stop BFing, but TBH i think it would be harder work! all that sterilizing and getting up in the middle of the night.urggh,i dont know how anyone does it!

something to make you all as Envy as i was,
DD made friends with a little girl in a cafe yesterday, she was with her GP's and the GM said to me
"i cant wait for their parents to get back on friday! im knackered!"
turns out the GP's had been looking after a 4.5 month old and a 2year old for TWO WEEKS WHILST THEIR PARENTS WENT FUCKING SKIING!!!!! Envy Envy Envy

my DM was there at the time, and was happily sipping tea,she had finished her lunch and was watching me,whilst my food was going cold because i had a production line of nappy/clothes changing going on on the floor!

not that in at all jealous or anything!BlushGrin

mapletrees · 03/02/2011 15:57

cinnamon, have never come across play rangers but I'm Shock at what you described, esp the biscuit bit. How old was the mindee? Not that it makes it ok, but I suppose if he's 9 or 10 she might think he would probably know to refuse if he had an allergy. But then again, as all kids are so different, even at that age you couldn't be sure, and it's v rude not to check with their parent/minder anyway. At the nursey where Louis might be going the childern aren't allowed to take in birthday cakes etc, just in case they have something in one of the others is allergic to, and I would have thought anyone trained in child care would be similarly cautious.

Debs75 · 03/02/2011 16:03

Cinnamon We have play rangers near us and some of them are brilliant, others are pretty useless. A lot of the time they help play with the children because some mothers don't have a clue how to play. When I ran a toddler group we had one mum who just didn't know how to play with her son. We would sit with him and her playing together until she got the confidence to engage him in play. We made sure though that we never took over. We had another set of parents who ignored their kids and did the activity we had set up for the kids to do. Then they would feed them quavers rather then the fresh fruit we had bought.

The guacamole was very yummy, good job I bought the one without jalepenos this week.

Lucy is having another mammoth afternoon nap much to DP's annoyance. DD2 was in nursery this morning and DP was looking forward to some alone time with meWink. Lucy decided it was time for a poo, a feed, then a 10 minute nap 15 mins before it was time to set off to get DD2. I take them to playgroup and she sleeps all the way through.

lumpybananapuree · 03/02/2011 16:49

"Why? does he have an allegy?" bit late to ask that after giving the biscuit! Haven't got them here but it really annoys me when people at toddlers give out biscuits without checking, if only for the fact that 1 day toby had 5 biscuits because he kept asking different people! (Clever boy!)

FriggFRIGG my friends ds & dil left their childeren of similar ages with her & their other gran for 2 weeks to go skiing. She actually weaned him off the breast just for that reason!! Shock I couldn't leave Toby for aa week let alone 2 & don't even like leaving olly for 1 night!

Well, swimming was a massive success! we had to go to a pool 30mins away cos parent/toddler swimming in lincoln is at stupid times. It was great. the pool was so warm. Toby & his girlfriend just paddled off in their armbands, we were the only ones in the pool & Olly sat unsupported! He was on this boat shaped float & I just let go & he stayed put for a good 30 seconds! we stayed in for 45mins then went for a maccy ds treat. Big macs don't puree well tho Wink came home & all had a snooze. My kind of day!

Beadit we're always there! its you thats not! Although I won't be tonight!! Got a hot date!

JodeyBogeyPicker · 03/02/2011 17:21

OMG ladies, harlyn had cut two bottom teeth!!! No bloody wonder he's been dribbling and chewing his fist for weeks. I feel really bad for not checking earlier but I just thought he did it for comfor. As he's been like thus for about 6 weeks. I thought it was too early for teeth but I had a little feel today and it was hard and sharp. When I had a closer look I could see both teeth coming through! No wonder he's Been a little restless during the daytime recently.

18 weeks tomorrow xx

JodeyBogeyPicker · 03/02/2011 17:44

Comfort!!! Typo x

JodeyBogeyPicker · 03/02/2011 17:57

Bloody hell! Too many typos! What's going on????

cinnamongreyhound · 03/02/2011 18:20

I very much get the feeling that this woman is looking down her nose at everyone and has the impression that no-one bothers with their kids debs75.

He's 3 mapletrees and does have several allergies luckily not to anything in the biscuit. I think the assumption is that people just stuff their kids with biscuits so it's ok. I take fruit and the kids are allowed one biscuit and then have fruit if they're still hungry.

Just told dh and he thinks I should complain and he rarely complains about things!

How exciting JodeyBogeyPicker!! That's the second baby with teeth on our thread isn't it? Luke has one very close to coming I can feel it
through the gum.

Right kids gone home, Luke fed and asleep now to feed the rest of us and get ds1 to bed. Off to pirate island tomorrow, yay!

cinnamongreyhound · 03/02/2011 18:25

Oh.. and yay for Olly too lumpybananapuree! I'm amazed you can take both, our local pool only allows 1:1 for under 5's :(

newmum001 · 03/02/2011 18:58

I've not had chance to catch up properly yet but i don't think people who didn't/don't want to try to breastfeed should be judged. I didn't try it and i had my reasons and the full support of my midwife. I don't think anyone would decide to formula feed just cause they can't be arsed to try breastfeeding, some people may feel like that but certainly not everyone.

Right i'll get down of my high horse and go and catch up with the rest of the posts Grin

lumpybananapuree · 03/02/2011 19:06

So whats going on with this meet up then?? Is it happening??

cinnamongreyhound · 03/02/2011 19:32

I don't think that's what anyone was saying newmum001 just that people who want to try are put off because they are getting misinformation that makes them think it could harm their baby. I certainly don't have an issue with peoples choices but I find it frustrating that people who want to breastfeed don't get the support they need. I also think MN is not a good representation of the numbers of people bf and ff. In rl I am the only person I know who bf and I have been made to feel on several occasions that I am somehow judging others just by the mere fact that I am bf in public. I never will and never have said anything about anyone elses choices and just because I am bf my baby doesn't mean I have a problem with what anyone else does. It makes me sad that some mums who ff feel persecuted and in response are doing the same to mums who bf without knowing anything about them :(

Several people have replied that 24th Feb is fine lumpybananapuree so I guess when Saoirse86 shows up we can start making arrangements.
