....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

GOOD LUCK with your sweep jessicaandbumpsmummy. You will soon need to change your mumsnet name .

At last we have named our daughter - Sophie Charlotte. Nothing phenomenal there, we just couldn't agree on any others. Now we have to get used to calling her that instead of "new baby"!

We've been discharged by the midwife today, so I guess it's health visitor time next. At least it will save us having to hang around the house all day waiting for the next visit.

Hope everyone is ok and at least getting some sleep here and there.

Jockey · 23/10/2005 14:15

After all that, dd2 has just woken up and I've called her "Emily" (dd1's name - now age 6). I must be getting really sleep deprived!!! I'll be going out with my slippers on next....

morningpaper · 23/10/2005 15:07

Marinda my bits resemble an open-top steak and kidney pudding. Since having no.1 they have looked VERY much 'open' IYKWIM. I have nothing to compare with (unless we want to start uploading photos ) but I think it's probably normal! Most people never look, believe me.

marinda · 23/10/2005 17:08

Thanks for the info morningpaper, I am just paranoid I have a prolapse or something - it feels heavy and so bloody sore - I can't face anymore poking and prodding from midwifes/Dr's etc... but I think I may just inquire on Monday when the midwife comes for her last visit. Bloody childbirth wrecks your body and I supposedly had a "normal" delivery. I dread to think what it is like with a not normal one. Not that I am considering it at the moment (and won't be ever again at this rate), but I think sex would be impossible as my inside bits seem to enlarged for a (ahem!) to pass by them! Trouble is I can't remember what it was like after the first one so I have nothing to compare ! Also baby is waking at 2.00am and 6.00am and I am knackered ! She is very sweet however and very good ! (Compared to no.1 whi screamed all the time!!)

morningpaper · 23/10/2005 20:28

Marinda I am feeling bloody awful too with my bits. I can't ever imagine them being - ahem - fully operational again! They feel completely mashed. I agree, 'normal delivery' - what a crock of shite! My body is WRECKED and everything still hurts and feels bruised inside and out. It makes me feel crap. If only c-sections weren't so crappy to recover from I'd be after one of those next time. I am going to ask the midwife to check me out on her last visit tomorrow - I'm always shocked at how little they seem to care about the recovery of one's genitals after the event. I really want reassurance that mine aren't rotting away.

ponto · 23/10/2005 20:48

Hello all, delighted that I am now qualified to join you on this thread having finally given birth to dd2 last Thursday evening, a mere 16(!) days late. When she finally decided to come, it was all in a big rush, 2 hours 10 minutes from having my waters broken to delivery! Bit of shock to the system for both of us. She was 9lb 14oz, so caused some damage on the way out. It's all been stitched up though and now looks much better than after dd1, when I was told it was 'just a small tear' - looked absolutely horrendous to me but was back to almost normal within a month.

Have been feeding pretty much non-stop first 3 days, but I think now my milk might be coming in as she's had a long sleep this afternoon and evening. Anyone got any tips for dealing with bleeding nipples?

Ponto

Piggiesmum · 24/10/2005 08:18

Ponto - I had really sore and bleeding nipples at the start. One of the midvives recomended Lansinoh. It comes in a purple tube and i think it is a bit more expensive than other nipple creams but I've found it really good so I think it's worth it.

Dh is back at work thuis week. Sounds like alot of people have their dh going back to work this week. . I can't believe how quickly the last two weeks have gone. He works away from home at the moment too so my parents are coming down to stay for a few days so it shouldn't be too bad.

BigBumpBonnie · 24/10/2005 09:39

Well, dh back at work, it's not even 9.30 and me, dd1 and little ruby are all washed dressed and ready for the day (not that we've got anything to do today, bloody weather!) Anyway REALLY proud of myself for getting everything in order so early. It's been really peaceful so far but can't see it lasting. Ruby's been feeding great through the night but wakes every 2-3 hours so am very tired today.

Re, bits after birth, I'm the same and feel a little bit 'inside out' at the moment but am doing pelvic floor excercises CONSTANTLY and that seems to be helping a great deal. A few days after the birth it just felt like everything would fall out and I think the only way to tone it all back up is pelvic floors. I'm starting to feel a lot better already, but didn't have stitches or anything so was lucky. Physically feel a lot better now and very happy not to be pregnant any more. It's lovely to put my own socks on without assistance. I hope all of you that still feel ropey start to improve soonx

BigBumpBonnie · 24/10/2005 09:39

Oh forgot to say congratulations to all of you who have recently joined!!

mishmash2 · 24/10/2005 09:49

Do hope you are all beginning to feel better slowly. I feel so lucky as my c-section was a dream. Didn't need pain killers after day 1 and had no problems at all ..... (not what you want to hear but hopefully may give you some reassurance for next time!).

I have just posted a picture of William. Not good at this but here goes William

We have our 8 week check today - injections and all... poor little thing. will keep you posted!

SusiS · 24/10/2005 09:52

both my monsters are asleep so finally some time to catch up

getting a taste already how it will be when dp will be back at work next week! because he stays in bed every morning when i get up at 6am to make breakfast for ds.
the most difficult thing so far is to keep them both seperate!! because ds always wants to 'play' with caitlin and gets quite rough.
i hope he learns fast.

besides that we are doing really well. been out loads and even managed to register her birth already
feeding is going well (3-5hours during the day) and last night we even had 7 hours 'woheyyy'

re bits: i am with you on this one!! also i have to say the last few days it seems to recover alot more! not as painful and not that often either! and bleeding/discharge has stopped!!!

we also had caitlin bathed twice so far. first time she screamed the house down. 2nd time was much calmer

hope you are getting some well deserved rest!

SusiS · 24/10/2005 09:53

BigBumpBonnie · 24/10/2005 11:00

the first time i bathed ruby she screamed then i remembered a tip from the baby whisperer to put a warm flannel over them when they're in the bath. did this last night and ruby actually fell asleep in the bath!!

Thanks for the stats Susi

ButtonMoon · 24/10/2005 15:44

I am absolutely shattered.....DS is waking every 2-3 hours to feed at night and taking over an hour to wind, change and settle afterwards so not much time for me to catch up on sleep Last night was bad it took 2 and a half hours for him to finally settle I was a sobbing wreck! He did calm down though once I fed him lying down and he fell asleep next to me without needing to be winded for 4 hours...bliss! So tring that again tonight....fingers crossed. So tempted to get a dummy though as he has been unsettled again all morning and only stopped when I filled him up to the brim so that he couldnt move...lol. Don't really want to resort to dummy yet as he still hasnt properly crackes the feeding every time and I'm still getting a little sore at times...DD was 6 weeks old....thought might get a different one this time as DD cried loads and was always full of wind but he seems to be suffering the same Dh went back to work this morning and we've had a few tears...from DD, DS and me!! We've done alright though after DS settled for his sleep after a very windy morning, a very messy nappy all over the top of the nappy, up his back and in his clothes (yuk)and being awake and mardy for 5 hours!! I keep telling myself that things can only get easier!! It's nice and comforting to know that I'm not the only one....fingers crossed for a good nights sleep x

morningpaper · 24/10/2005 16:13

Button I could have written your post EXACTLY!! Except I've got DH at home for another two weeks - THANK GOODNESS. We are going through just the same. I can manage a two hour stretch of feeding/winding/settling at night but after that I start getting STRESSED big-time. Last night it was 3 hours and I just wanted to leave the baby on someone's doorstep so I could sleep. PHEW it's hard work.

BigBumpBonnie · 24/10/2005 16:28

Trying day for me as well after a fantastic start. Think I was getting a wee bit complacent! Got dd1 down for her afternoon nap (she usually sleeps for a good couple of hours) Ruby decided to then wake up and not settle again. So far she has slept most of the time so a bit of a shock to the system when she didn't today. After an hour of trying to settle her, dd1 woke up calling me. Went upstairs and she'd had the runs and decided to pick her nappy apart She was really upset, so trying to calm her down and deal with the mess and in the meantime Ruby howling away downstairs! Who do you go to first?? Was my first really stressful experience and to be honest I could do without any more!

I'm doing all the night feeds on my own now as dh is back at work and it is so hard to deal with anything when you are shattered.

Good luck to everyone for tonight xx

jai38 · 24/10/2005 19:30

Glad to see that I am not the only one suffering beginning to think that I had an awkward baby but no just normal!!! Night times and def the worse and now it seems as if I am never allowed to put him down. DH has had no time off so doing all nights on my own which I am coping with so far but getting tired!! Just grateful that he is getting more active as it seems a nice treat for the constant feeding and nappy changing

ponto · 24/10/2005 20:10

Piggiesmum, thanks for the advice about Lansinoh cream. Was intending to rush out and buy some today but dd2 has been feeding about every 3 hours instead of hourly and giving my poor bleeding nipples chance to recover.

I am feeling very lucky today as dd2 has been asleep almost constantly between feeds, though to make up for this dd1 (age 2 1/2) has been playing up - awake for 1 1/2 hours in the night, refusing to eat tea, pooed in her pants twice! She has got a cold at the moment so I'm not sure if it's just that or whether this is attention seeking. Giving her the benefit of the doubt at the moment and trying to be extra nice to her but I'm really not happy at having to change dirty pants 5 minutes after I've asked her if she needs to go to the toilet. Anyone else having toilet problems with older siblings?

rodeo1 · 24/10/2005 20:13

Just wondering if I can join? Lovely to read a load of posts Ican relate to! Had baby Jess (no 3) on 10th October, weighing 6lb 12. The euphoria of having a gorge sweet smelling newborn is starting to wain - feeling a bit like abottom changing, baby winding leaky milk machine at the mo, and this one handed typing is both difficult and slow!

Oh and how can a tiny baby make for so much laundry?!

morningpaper · 24/10/2005 20:30

Ponto: My Dh seems to be wandering around the house permanently with a laundry basket stuck to his arm. Milk, sick and poo seems to get all over everything.

BBB: Your day sounds AWFUL! I hate the feeling of being pulled in two and failing on both counts - and DH hasn't even gone back to work yet!

Baby is 12 days old. Midwife came today and she is finally over her birthweight - YAY! Such a milestone, makes me feel better after all the constant feeding day and night. She also said my tear is healing nicely which was an IMMENSE relief to hear.

Oh well - about to start the night-shift. Good luck all. xxx

morningpaper · 24/10/2005 20:30

First comment was to RODEO!

SusiS · 25/10/2005 06:40

guess you can't have it all!
hv came round yesterday to way little miss. and she hasn't put on one little bit the last week!!!!
and she still hasn't reached her birthweight - she's 19 days today.
hv reckons that she's still exhausted from the birth because she sleeps all the time. and falls asleep on the breast after only 10 min!
oh well, have you ever tried waking a sleeping baby????????????
dp seems to be doing better with this so it's his job to be the 'nasty' one
now i try and feed her every 2 hours - hope this'll help!

but still nice having the long nights

SusiS · 25/10/2005 06:41

way?????? guess i am still too tired (ds had me up at 5!)

hv obviously did check her weight

BigBumpBonnie · 25/10/2005 09:47

waiting for midwife today who is going to discharge us. Only seen her twice since giving birth! Little Ruby seems to be getting huge and woke every 2 and a half hours for a 4 oz feed last night. Absolutely exhausted but looking forward to her being weighed today. She's two weeks old tomorrow (can't believe it's been that long already, seems to have passed in a bit of a blur). If midwife comes early enough I'm going to venture out on my own with the two of them for the first time. Only to the library and I'll have the car so if it gets too much I can shove them in and come back home

Feel sorry for dd1 who has spent far too long at home lately. Def need to start getting out and about again.

Oh, and who else is soooo sick of having to wear pads everywhere? Can't wait until I can lose the breast pads and sanitary towels once and for all!
