....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

oh girls let me join you! had a breezer earlier
with you on that 'being tired thingy'! - 4-5 hours for months now can't be it, right??
and ds is driving me crazy lately - we are approaching the (terrible) 2s and i can tell you he's testing just about everything - and we are not even there yet

here's hoping to more sleep for all of us!!!

Elf1981 · 19/01/2006 22:19

Moomin, just seen your other thread and posted there. Bloody work places!

Feeling a bit miserable, got a stinking cold and feeling yukky. Though was playing with Evie this afternoon and playing peekaboo got some lovely laughs and giggles and made me feel a whole lot better.

Wish I could win the lotto and not have to go back to work. Or some kind generous person would pay off my mortgage so I didn't have to worry abou money!

Another horrendous night last night. She took 7 ozs at 11.30pm when we went to bed and then was awake again at 1.00am and drank another 6ozs. How can one baby drink so much milk???????? After 1.00am she was up again at 4am for more milk and awake for good at 7am. Needless to say I feel a bit ropey this morning I'm starting to dread the nights but at least it's the weekend so dh will take over and I get at least one good nights sleep.

nervousmum · 20/01/2006 09:39

BBB - Joey was doing this, so we started the baby rice (at HV's recommendation) and now Joey sleeps through again. HTH.

Off on holiday tonight (4 days with the In-Laws[grr] then a week at Center Parcs), so hope everyone has a good week. Take care all, NM x

BBB it does sound like she needs a bit more now doesn't it? Remember whatever the blamket advice about weaning is, each baby is different: they have different needs and capacities where it comes to food. If she's 'telling' you she needs more to eat, then the best thing you can do is listen to her, IMO!

mummygow · 20/01/2006 10:16

bbb what age is your wee one - what milk does she take?

Cameron is just over 12 weeks now weights 13lb 8oz and over the last 3 days is starving - I know he has been sleeping through from 11pm bottle but last week I was only giving him water in the night.

He is on Aptiimil Extra and takes about 6/7oz per bottle - I still split his bedtime bottle (5pm/6.15pm) - He used to take a couple of onces before bath and the a big feed after but now he drains the bottle at 5 and only few onces at 6.15.

I know when I start weaning him he will have his dinner at 5pm and bottle at 6.15.

He is also starting to get hungary at his morning nap 9am after a full bottle at 7am.

I will have to talk to my health visitor - do you think it is because he is quite a large baby?
(now I think I see why she was asking me a couple of weeks ago was this enough for him)

Anyway sorry to all who are having hardly any sleep - it starts taking it's toll, doesnt it!

Remember dh watched kids last weekend well my sister has volunteered this weekend and I'm going up to my friend's house tomorrow night for more alchohol - weyhey!!

Dont know why she's so excited about it she has 2 boys of her own - so in her house tomorrow night ther will be her ds1 - 7, her ds2 - 5, Jessica - 3 and Cameron - 12 weeks (rather her than me!!!

Elf1981 · 20/01/2006 10:34

I've had soooo many people telling me I should be weaning Evie either now or before she goes to nursery, but I dont think she's showing any signs. She feeds like a demon every day, sometime every two hours, but at night she'll have a feed at half seven and sleep til half seven / half eight the next morning. So, aside from night waking for feeds, what should I be looking for with regards to weaning?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 20/01/2006 11:44

Becky is just over 12 weeks and 12lbs 8oz and also STARVING!

She has had 2 6oz bottles since 8am and is now wanting another!

Must be a growth spurt - im refusing to go anywhere near solids just yet.

mummygow · 20/01/2006 12:08

Elf they should have good head control, sit with support, the tongue thrust reflex should be going, they should seam hungrier, start wakening in night again, maybe watching you while you eat (making you feel guilty) - it is for these reasons I dont think Cameron is ready.

JRM I think your right I think it is a growth spurt!!

mummygow · 20/01/2006 12:09

oh and be 4 - 6 months

BigBumpBonnie · 20/01/2006 13:01

well, i've just got back from the shops armed with organic baby rice, weaning bowls, spoons and a training beaker. (don't tell the mumsnet weaning police!) I just know she needs it. She's coming up for 16lbs and the health visitor did say she's showing all the signs and to start. She sits up really well with support has excellent head control, looks at us longingly when we are eating anything and drinks milk like it's going out of fashion! She's only 14 and a half weeks so i know it's really early but like Moomin said, every baby is different and she's the size of a 6 mth old so therefore so is her tummy! Hv also said it's not so good for the baby's kidneys etc to be taking on board that much milk every day. She has been on hungry baby milk since about 4 weeks old but it's not helping now. Anyway she was a week overdue so that sort of puts her at 15 and a half weeks so I'm only a week and a half early!!

BigBumpBonnie · 20/01/2006 13:02

NM, how old was Joey when you started? did he sleep better straight away?

BigBumpBonnie · 20/01/2006 13:02

oh and have a good holiday

mummygow · 20/01/2006 13:50

bbb I dont think I'll be far behind you because if cameron gains 8oz per week he'll be 15lbs by 15 weeks. He holds his head great but not sure about the sitting with support yet!!

Good Luck!!

mummygow · 20/01/2006 13:53

I was just loking at Camerons record book he has been gaining about 10oz a week - he's a heafer!!

Redtartanlass · 20/01/2006 19:01

BBB - good luck...ds2 was on solids at this age, couldn't believe it when I was looking at some old pics. But there is no way dd is ready, she is such a tiny wee doll.

Anyway good luck to all you starting and remember keep away from the weaning polis

Oh by the way, am I the only one not sterilising??

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 20/01/2006 19:05

RTL - we are sterilising, just not religiously - if we havent done them, them tough - a hot soapy wash will suffice! I stop sterilising when it gets to weaning anyway.... no point!

Elf1981 · 20/01/2006 19:29

RTL - although Evie is breastfed, she often has a bottle of EMB and TBH I only ever steralise my expressers (got a hand pump and recently brought a mini electric, so much kinder on the wrists!). I only steralise these because they're harder to get clean!!
I figure my boob / finger aren't steralised so theres no point with the odd bottle!

BigBumpBonnie · 21/01/2006 09:56

well.........made her up a teaspoonful of baby rice at tea time yesterday and she took to it fantastically. If i had any doubts I was doing the right thing I haven't any more. She looked at me with such gratitude as if to say 'finally mum you get it, I'm HUNGRY!' Anyway after that she slept for 7 hours last night. the most she's slept for ages. I am so pleased I made the right decision for her. Good luck to everyone else! And I was planning on sterilising for a year, don't I need to? I've got those fiddly dr brown/b free bottles and am a bit concerned I might not get them clean enough.

SusiS · 21/01/2006 10:37

haven't started weaning just yet. but i know i won't wait till 6 monyhs. the sooner i start the sooner she can feed herself

sterilising i am with jessrebmum on this one. we do sterilise but not all time. i mostly use the dishwasher - the heat should kill everything anyways

i realised caitlin is more awake lately and i have to admit i can't remember what actually to do with her
i know i did loads with ds but now i never seem to have the time or i just want to sit down for a minute ...
she is very social though she loves any kind of attention and gives you a big smile and giggle when he turn to her. makes me feel even worse
and just recently all she wants to do is sit up or even stand up - the head is quite steady now so i am thinking of getting the good old door bouncer out or i might even get one of them like walker but without wheels; with lots of activity on it! - sadly i can only use all this when ds is not around - he might just grab her, pull her out and have a go himself (well, he can't actually pull her out and he manages to carry her for a few steps - was not so funny at that time!)

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 21/01/2006 10:52

BBB - we use Dr Browns too. I would stick with sterilising until at least they are weaned/putting things in their mouths anyway!

They need to build up immunity to general household germs, but a good wash in hot soapy water is best. i use the dishwasher for all other things (jess's bottles/cups etc) but still like Rebecca's bottles to be sterilised in the microwave - but if i cant, then tough!!!

Elf1981 · 21/01/2006 11:12

Did anybody read the thread about the woman who had a premmie baby and was told by the hospital when she took him home NOT to sterlise but just to wash really well in very hot soapy water and leave to dry on kitchen towel? Cant find it at the mo as got Evie sitting on my knee as she has a cold and wants to be with mummy.

Evie is being really funny to watch the past couple of days, she's kind of clenching all her muscles to lift herself up when she is lying down. She can get her head and shoulders off the sofa now, but she does look like some maniac trying to do situps!!

SusiS - I was going to get Evie a door swing thingy, she's got excellent head control and I think she'd like it as she's a bit nosey!!

BigBumpBonnie · 21/01/2006 11:52

here, here on the door bouncer. Susi, I also feel guilty as have hardly any time to spend with ruby and tend to plonk her on her activity mat and leave her there. she's happy enough with that but when I do go over to her she gives me the most lovely smiles and I'd love to spend more time with her. I've ordered a door bouncer thing as I gave my last one away as dd1 didn't like it. Ruby loves to be upright so I'm hoping she'll take to it.

mummygow · 21/01/2006 13:02

funny I put Cameron in the door bouncer today, I think he really enjoyed seeing the world from a different position (not just looking up at ceiling, faces, baby gym) any way it must have been soothing as he fell asleep in it!

I think he is teething because he is rubbing his wee gums frantically on anything, his fists, my shoulder so have given him some ashton and parsons today.

Redtartanlass · 21/01/2006 21:14

BBB look at this thread, it convinced me not to sterlise, and baby has been just fine

sterilsing
