....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

hi mp how ya doing? dp has taken ds2 to the sale at B&Q so having a delightful couple of hours to myself!!

nervousmum · 02/01/2006 11:49

Thanks guys. I have been going much longer between feeds at night (Joey now sleeps 8-9 hours solid), so maybe thats the cause. I just hope it clears up soon, as it's so painful and making me feel really miserable.

Glad you had a good time in Egypt, RTL- it's on my list of places to visit as i love all things ancient. I had thought we'd have to put it off till Joey was a lot older, but hearing your report may have changed my mind

hey nervousmum, have to be honest here.....we did not move far from the pool/beach. Babies too wee to appreciate the pyramids!!! It was just a nice relaxing Christmas break.

Elf1981 · 02/01/2006 12:25

Going to book a hol for in the summer but only in Cornwall probably, I'm scared of flying and not sure how I'll cope flying with Evie as well!

DH is just doing a list of jobs I've set him to do today while I'm doing some home shopping off Argos for some house stuff, cant be bothered to brave the sales rush. Evie is asleep on my bed looking so peaceful and chilled out

BigBumpBonnie · 02/01/2006 16:55

hi RTL, glad your holiday went well and your babies are back on top form

I've posted this on another thread but I'm having real problems with ruby at night. She has started waking every 2 and a half to three hours for a bottle. She is getting through about four bottles during the night and we are EXHAUSTED! It started when she wasn't well but she's been fine now for the last week but is still doing it. If anyone has any advice I'd be sooo grateful. We've gone from her sleeping a good 8 hours at a time to it being worse than when she was a newborn.

Apart from that she is as lovely and gorgeous as usual. She's really alert now and you only have to glance in her direction to get a huge gummy smile and really sweet coos. She's got her second lot of jabs on wednesday and i'm dreading that.

As for MMR, she'll definately be getting that.

RTL at you trying for another baby. It seems like only yesterday we were all pregnant in the heat! wow, doesn't time fly. Really hope it happens easily for you, good luck you brave woman

Elf1981 · 02/01/2006 20:04

When I have another, I'm planning on being preggers through winter. Couldn't do with the heat again!!

Hi girls!

Well im home again after 2 weeks pampering at my dads over xmas and new year.... and ive got the bloated tummy to show for it! (Joining in with the lose a stone thread!)

Becky is being FANTASTIC! Although she doesnt sleep much (about an hour tops) during the day, she is sleeping 6.30pm til about 6.30am - 12 hours straight! Not sure how it happened especially as Jessica at 17 months STILL wakes once or twice a night!!!

Good to hear we are all doing well.... and good on you lot trying for more babies - NO CHANCE of that here - 2 under 2 is MORE than enough!

Becky is really alert too - loads of smiles and coos, and totally adorable.

1st day of a new routine tomorrow - DH back at work.... first time since Rebecca was born! (Cant believe she's 10 weeks already!!)

Wish me luck girls - i very much doubt ill be on before 7pm tomorrow!

Elf1981 · 02/01/2006 23:25

Evie's sleeping pattern has changed from 8:00 til 6:00 to 10:30 to 9:30. I want to try to bring it forward again so I can get some housework done in the evening (she doesn't nap much in the day, has a few days of no sleep then a day where she'll go nearly all day) but I am quite liking the bath I get in the morning in peace while she's still asleep!

nervousmum · 03/01/2006 13:17

My boob's still killing me, and it now hurts when i lift my right arm too! Off to the GP this afternoon....

Good luck J&RM - you'll be fine

Nervousmum, hope the doc gets the pain sorted for you.

SusiS · 03/01/2006 20:07

happy new year girls!
we had quite a rough time here. ds cought bronchitis about 2 weeks ago and then all got it. dp and even poor caitlin - i've got a plain simple headcold
caitlin was very poorly for 3 days and wouldn't eat anything and if then brought everythings straight up again - but she's back to being her normal self again. bright and shiny and always good for a good giggle

and yes: mmr for us too

hopefull now we are back to 'normality' (dp back to work and everyone more or less recovered) i will come on more often
just my throat is killing my and had trouble swalling today; might get the bronchitis after all

we are off skiing this year; probably end of january (in austria of course) - and then we'll add another week to go to vienna to see my family - they can't wait to see caitlin!

we'll be going by car. with 2 under 2 and all the things to take we think it might be easier. well that's the theorie anyways

and re more kids: not here!! i am with reb&jesmums on this one: 2 under 2 is more than enough!!

ponto · 04/01/2006 11:34

Just catching up with this thread while Alice is asleep. Dd1 is at playschoool so I should really be getting on with all the jobs that need doing around the house, but i quickly looked online to order some breast pads and then thought, well, I'll just have a quick browse of Mumsnet, and here I am an hour later...

Had a lovely Christmas at my mum's but a nightmare journey home, took 4.5 hours instead of 2.5. Had to stop for toilets, feeding, changing, roadworks and dd1 being travel sick! So we didn't go away for new year as planned, got our friends to come to us instead, much less stressful.

Nervousmum, hope you're feeling better. I've had slightly sore lumpy breasts from time to time. I remember the midwife saying it was probably a blocked duct and advising me to try feeding in a different position, e.g. holding the baby round the side like a rugby ball, and massaging the lump during a feed to get the duct unblocked. A warm bath is also helpful to get the milk flowing, and when you're feeding, make sure baby's hand isn't pressing on the breast, stopping the milk flow. HTH.

mummygow · 04/01/2006 12:23

Hi everyone hope you all had a great christmas and a happy new year. Wee Cameron has had a cold since he was born and I had been at the doctors nearly every week and the hospital twice. Then the week before christmas they decided he had bronchoilitis so on christmas day we ended up in hospital with - bronchoilitis, RSV+ve and Rotavirus and didnt come home until January 1st he is getting much better and his personality is really starting to shine through the only problem is that we are trying to get back into a feeding pattern as he stopped eating and was on a slow continuouse drip but at least he is better the feeding will sort itself out!!

nervousmum · 04/01/2006 14:06

sorry to hear about your little one, Mummygow. It must be a relief to know he's on the mend.

As for me, i have "infected mastitis +/- a blocked duct" and i am now on nasty antibiotics. Doc says if its no better in the next 48 hours, i'll have to have it surgically drained. I thought it was supposed to be a good thing then babies start sleeping through - i think i'll start prodding Joey 3 hourly during the night again Heck, why should i need sleep anyway!!!!

OP posts:
Elf1981 · 04/01/2006 16:06

Nervousmum - did the docs say it's due to Joey sleeping through? Evie is sleeping through and I'm fine, though my knockers rival Pammie Andersons in the morning!

ButtonMoon · 04/01/2006 22:31

Ouch nervousmum! Hope you are feeling better soon. best advice I can give is as others have said really and try using different feeding positions to help drain all of the breast....my little one sometimes decides to give me 8 hours continuous sleep and other nights just 3 ma....my boobs just can't settle down yet...lol at Pam Anderson...mine were Jordan-esque yesterday morn but got loads of milk pumped off for freezer another solitary shopping trip for me !!!!! Oh and if you are on antibiotics make sure you get some acidophillus inside you (them friendly bacteria) you can take tablets or drink those mingin yakult type things...otherwise you may get thrush too Good luck

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 05/01/2006 18:09

hi girls!

HELP needed - those of you whose little ones have had broncilitis - what are the symptoms - please - im almost ready to whip becky off to A & E if she carries on like this........

Elf1981 · 05/01/2006 23:14

J&Rmummy, sorry didn't see this earlier.
Evie started with a little cough and runny nose. Put it down to jabs. Progressed to vomiting after feeds, complete stuffed nose, struggling to breath and an awful cough that would not stop and brought up loads of phlegme (sp). Breathing sounded like she was rattling.
If in doubt, take Rebecca to hospital. We did after ringing NHS direct and though theres nothing they can do at that age if that's what it is, at least you will know that's all it is.
HTH

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 06/01/2006 05:53

that is exactly what Becky is like at the moment - so there is NOTHING they can do or give to make it better?

Howl ong does it last?!

Elf1981 · 06/01/2006 07:30

With Evie, the 4th, 5th and 6th days were the worst. it was the 4th day we took her to hospital as she was struggling to catch her breath from coughing so much and being full of gunk.
The docs at our hospital told me it was viral therefore nothing for it, plus on the young side. If they start to struggle to breath or stop feeding then they are taken into hospital. Evie was let out because though she was full of gunk and wheezing, her breaths were in normal limits and she was still feeding.
The symptoms probably were quite bad for another week after the 4th day, then her nose cleared up and then the cough. She sounded quite rattly for a while but all the other smptoms had gone.
To aide sleep, prop them up a little. We tiled the moses basket stand and then let her sleep in the car seat in the day. Evie was very sleepy for a few days as she got better.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 06/01/2006 11:56

well we had her at the docs this morning, seems like a chesty/throaty thing - been given antibiotics and nasal drops.

She is also sleeping for england - not like her at all. She usually sleeps through 12 hours at night, but not all day as well.

Poor little thing - fingers crossed the AB's will help her get better quicker - thanks for your help Elf xxx

nervousmum · 06/01/2006 13:03

Hope Rebecca starts feeling better soon, J&RM.

Thankfully, the antibiotics seem to have worked, and my boob is now back to normal. Even despite the yakult though, i appear to have the dreaded thrush!

Elf - the doc mentioned sleeping through as a possible cause, rather than a definite answer. I think it's unlikely to be that TBH as Joey has been sleeping through now for nearly 5 weeks without any adverse effects. I think i'd just been overdoing things and let myself get run-down.
Off sales shopping this afternoon...i've probably left it too late to get any major bargains though! Take care, NM x

nm glad your boobs feeling better

jrm - cameron seemed to have a contant cold - being all bunged up, the the cough started on the Tueday took him to doctors who gave me antibiotics on the Thurday afternoon but breathing really difficult so took him to a&e Thursday night they told me not to bother with antibiotics as they would not help and that Broncoilitis peaks on the 4th or 5th day but his oxygen level was fine - on the Friday at lunchtime he started to stop breathing periodically took him back to A&E they kept him overnight just to observe still didnt need oxygen but feeding was getting worse but on xmas day he slept all day and only took 3oz of milk up ubtil 5pm took him back to a&e and all hell broke loose they rushed him away and a doctor kept checking his hands and ankles and was shouting for someone to get oxgen, there was 5 of them trying to get blood out of him - in the end he ended up on oxygen, was being tube as could not breath when drinking his bottle but he kept throwing that up so the put him on a slow continuous drip and it ended up that he had the bronchoilitis was rsv+ve and had rotavirus but if you are unhappy with Rebbecca dont hesitate take her straight th A&E - do you have a childrens hospital near you, they are brilliant and explain everything and they dont make you feel like a neurotic mother

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 06/01/2006 19:25

how scary mummygow.... she seems a lot better this afternoon, still snuffly and chesty, but has managed 14oz in total since 9am so a lot better than yesterdays 5oz!

her eye has really swollen up because she's got an infection there too... poor little thing. Docs said to keep a close eye on her and if anything worries me to go straight to A&E

Elf1981 · 06/01/2006 20:38

J&Rmummy, glad that Rebecca is feeding a bit better.

Nervousmum - glad you ignored the doc about sleeping through, you're probably right saying that it can't be a reason as pain only just occured even though Joey has been sleeping through for a while.
When I took Evie to be weighed a few weeks ago, they decided she'd not put on as much weight as they'd have liked, and told me to wake her in at night for a feed. I walked out feeling very upset, my mum talked me out of waking Evie in the night for a feed. She made comments like "effing lines, didn't have them in my day!" etc. I listened to my mum, Evie still sleeping through at night, goes from about 8:30 til 7:30 without a feed. When I took her to be weighed just after Xmas, she was back on the next line up, even though she'd been poorly. Hope you feel better soon
