....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

omg ditto mp!! this time last year dh and i had the biggest most awful row in the whole world because we were so stressed about ttc. a few weeks before this he'd told me he didn't want to try for a baby anymore cos it was taking over our lives so much. just one month later we had out first appt through for ivf which was due to start in march. we found out we were pg with dd2 on dh's b'day in feb.
we've just been with our neighbours saying the same thing (all pissed as farts, kids running in and out eating crap, us all dancing to last christmas by wham) and looking at dd2 in her swingy chair all saying she's the most precious thing we;ve ever seen. god bless god and the babby jesus and everyone!!! hurrah for everything in the worl

morningpaper · 24/12/2005 19:38

Moomin I couldn't have put it better myself!

ruthiemum · 24/12/2005 20:17

Well just found time to wish you all a Merry Christmas and that all your babies will give you the best Christmas present ever - a lie in! It was my DS1 birthday today and he was three and I feel dead on my feet, he was in bed for 6 and so was DS2, I just couldn't bear anymore noise lol!

YOKEFLEET · 28/12/2005 09:38

HOPE YOU ALL HAD A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS

Elf1981 · 28/12/2005 09:58

Had a wicked Xmas but must say that Evie was very spoilt!!

Had a bit of on Boxing Day. My step sister turns up with her two tearaway terrors for kids (honestly, they demolish the house and are so rude to my mum - their step grandma - and the parents do nothing, its like once they step in the front door, the kids aren't their responsibility, and its up to us to tell them off for chucking around expensive ornaments or starting food fights in the dining room).
My step sister announces to me that she's brought just for Evie and not for me and DH. Is that okay? she asks. Well, felt like saying "erm, no you daft idiot, I've always brought for you and your DH and your kids".
She brought Evie a rattle. Now I know you dont give to receive but I spent a good £40 on her, her DH and two kids. She brought my two sisters £20 vouchers each!!
My mum is livid. My sisters pooled their vouchers together and have split them to give me some, not because I want them but because they're good like that!

Elf1981 · 28/12/2005 10:00

oh and I went into Next yesterday to get Evie some more clothes (not that she needs them or anything!!) and found the most awful things, reduced to £1.99 so I've brought them as step sister and her DH's pressie for next Xmas.
I'd never spite the kids, so I'll get them decent pressies, but cant wait to see my step sisters face!

Jockey · 29/12/2005 10:16

Hope everyone had a good time. The biggest hit for us was a large cardboard box in which ds2's tractor came! So it's cardboard boxes all round next year...

Sophie was given a selection box by someone!!! What a shame she won't be able to eat it . I can feel it going on my hips right now.

Happy New Year all.

FastasleepInAManger · 29/12/2005 16:45

Sorry I haven't been about...again! Hope everyone had a lovely christmas (no time to read as usual!) danishmummy you're so brave to be doing all this alone! I can't help whining sometimes though lol...

Bronchiolitis sounds horrible, I hope everyone's babies are feeling better poor things... we had an eventful christmas - DH being away worked ok thankfully, the house was still standing when he got back at least... then on the 19th I spotted a lump in little Sophia's groin, by the 20th we were in the Children's Hospital and she was having emergency surgery to remove an ovarian hernia!

Was all a bit of a shock, but she took it in her stride, and after all the rush she was out the next day they had to strengthen the tissue around both of her ovaries so she has two large scars but thankfully her ovaries are both un-damaged... phew what a christmas! (We could only bath her on boxing day too..pooey!)

Sophia is back to her normal self now I've got so much surplus milk that I'm getting pi**ed this new year!!

(HAPPY NEW YEAR! Everyone, just in case I don't come back!)

trice · 29/12/2005 17:26

Happy christmas everyone

my little girl is still a complete treasure. Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 30/12/2005 10:57

Hi girls.

sorry I havent been about - far too much going on right now!

FA - Really hope little Sophia is ok, give her a big hug from me.

Christmas was good here, Jessica loved it, although she still doesnt really understand, the presents (sorry, boxes!) went down well!

Rebecca got a couple of milky bars in her stocking from my dad.... bless him.... he did say that Jessi could eat them for her though but had to put them in becuase a stocking isnt a stocking without chocolate!

Rebecca is currently on holiday with her Daddy in Scotland! DH flew up to see his Gran with her on Wednesday morning and is back tomorrow morning, really cant wait to see them both, and get some cuddles from my little baby - ive missed her loads but the break (if you can call it that with Jess running around!) was good.

Back to normality (whatever that is) on Tuesday when for the first time since Rebecca was born, DH goes back to work! Im rather nervous, but im sure everything will be fine.

Take care all and have a FANTASTIC new year.... No more babies for me this year - 2 under 2 is PLENTY and ive done my fair share of summer pregnancies for a while.... but which ones of you are next?!

Love n hugs to you all xxx

Elf1981 · 30/12/2005 12:48

I'm planning to not have another for at least three years!!! As much as I love Evie, I want a good few years between her and any siblings, and I'm only planning on having one more.

Evie woke up this morning a 9:30 after going to sleep at 11:30 last night. I bathed her (she goes ballistic in the bath, legs kicking everywhere so she gets splashed, she loves it!), dressed her, fed her and she's been asleep ever since. Currently sucking her thumb so I dont think it will be too long before she's awake for another feed. Luckily I've got in there first and finished my bacon buttie.

Elf1981 · 30/12/2005 12:50

oh and second lot of jabs yesterday. My mum took her in the room (I chickened out, I'm all brave unless theres somebody with me I can wimp out on!). Mum came out telling Evie not to worry, we were going to go get granddad and daddy and beat up the evil lady with the needle!! Think I best take her for her third lot!!

Has anybody given any though to the MMR jab?

fastasleep · 30/12/2005 16:58

I'd go for the MMR jab if I were you (not telling you what to do though, emotive subject and all!) after reading up on it last time round I decided that the risk of catching measles mumps or rubella was much much worse than the unfounded risks of the jab - the single jabs have also proven to be less effective and much more annoying, leaving the child more time in between when they may be immune to one thing but not another iyswim... I really wouldn't listen to the scare mongering, if you're child's going to be autistic they just are I'm afraid jab or no jab, they just have the jab at a very common time for autistic traits to be noticed sadly

Just my opinion though

Sophia's perfect, glad Jess + Becky + Evie had a good christmas.. no one got my baby any chocolate which is good really as DS doesn't like it and I got way too much!

fastasleep · 30/12/2005 17:00

your* not you're!

BigBumpBonnie · 30/12/2005 21:02

Glad everyone had a good christmas. So sorry to hear about your worries with Sophia FA, but I'm so pleased she's all okay now.

Ruby was quite ill over Christmas. It started Christmas Eve night when she had a really bad cough (causing her to be sick) and a high temp. Called out the doctor who told me to give her small doses of calpol. She was obviously not sleeping well at all as she was ill and now seems to be teething!! Thought it was far too early but she's got a red swollen cheek on one side, is obviously in pain, dribbling a lot and chewing her hands at every opportunity. I've put some gel on her gums and that seems to help. DD1 didn't start teething until much later than this and didn't suffer with it at all so this is all new to me. She's now waking about 3 times during the night and has a bottle each time so we're all tired here at the moment! At least she's recovered from her cold now though.

Christmas day was great for DD1 who's now 2 and a half so really took notice of everything. She was so excited when she saw all her presents and really has enjoyed the whole experience. Ruby got a few presents, most of which were soft toys that dd1 has adopted until she's older!

Nice and quiet here at the moment as they both go to bed at 7.30pm now so I know I'm going to be okay until Ruby wakes up at about 12. Off to enjoy a glass of wine and some rubbish telly

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Elf1981 · 31/12/2005 00:21

BBB - I think Evie is teething too. I'm
Today she has slept most of the day with her fist in her mouth. Her gums are an awful colour, so much different to usual. Bright red cheeks and I've lost count of the amount of times I have wiped the dribble off her face and take her dress out of her mouth!

nervousmum · 01/01/2006 11:07

Happy New Year everybody

trice · 01/01/2006 12:18

Happy New Year all.

Don't you wish bath time lasted all day? I have just finished bathing Hannah and she treated me to lots of proto giggling and splashing. I am totally in love.

trice · 01/01/2006 12:21

I am hoping that teething is months away. ds didn't start until 8 months and then they all came through at once - or so it seemed at the time.

fastasleep · 01/01/2006 15:43

Teething!! DS didn't get his first tooth till 15 months... which was fine by me! (He's still only got 5 at nearly 2 lol)

I must say though Sophia is spending a lot of time with fingers/dress/fist/rattle/anything shoved in there... don't get me paranoid...

Mine only giggles when you blow raspberries on her belly or if me and DH stick our tongues out at her

Can't believe most of our babies have been ill in some way... poor mites, can't wait till summer, hopefully they'll all be in perfect health by then and crawling all over the place

ButtonMoon · 01/01/2006 21:27

Bit of advice needed Ladies - i woke up this morning and my right boob was killing me. Its really painful to the touch (feels like its bruised), and quite lumpy. Joey seems to be feeding from it fine, but its so uncomfortable i can't cuddle my son, as i always hold him on that side Given that its a bank holiday, therefore no GP available, has anyone got any suggestions? Thanks x

Hi all and a happy new year, typing while feeding so please excuse any errors

Had a great time in Egypt, babies were cooed over constantly, people kept saying how brave we were going away with a 9 week old baby. Don?t know why, all she does is sleep, eat and giggle, much easier than a tantruming 21 month old

Babies seem to have got over their various ailments, to be truthful I think the sun in Egypt helped. DP and i are going to try for another baby!!! Are we mad??? Don?t think it will happen though, as have only 1 tube and age isn?t on my side. It was a miracle enough when we got ds2 after 8 years of trying and a double miracle when dd came 20 months later.

Elf ? great news about scan
Yorkefleet ? did you have a good time in Yorkshire?
Hester ? hi great to hear from you
Moomim ? your 24 dec made me cry, how lovely!!
Fastasleep ? poor sophie, what a nightmare for you all, so glad it?s turned out ok.
Hi jes&rebsmum ? long time no hear, glad everythings ok.
Bigbump ? hope ruby feeling better, poor wee soul
Buttonmoon ? welcome back, how did the house move go?

morningpaper · 02/01/2006 11:02

(I was desperate to have MMR because by that time my dd1 was at nursery and there was an outbreak of measles which was terrifying.)

Christmas has been fine - baby still adorable and going to sleep for the night a bit earlier (9ish) which is fabbie!

Nervousmum Sounds like a blocked duct - feed as much as possible on that side (without neglecting the other side of course) - just keep shoving baby on and making him drink drink drink. Post a message and ask for more specific advice. For more advice, ring one of the Breastfeeding helplines - they are more likely to give you good advice and diagnosis than your GP anyway. Hope it clears up soon!

Redtartanlass · 02/01/2006 11:03

nervousmum could it be MASTITIS
copied this from internet

Mastitis means that the breast is inflamed, and there is swelling, redness, tenderness and pain. There may be an infection, so it is wise to consult your health-care provider to determine whether or not an antibiotic is necessary. A breast infection can become a breast abscess that requires surgical draining, but this can almost always be prevented by treating mastitis promptly.

Signs of mastitis include:

Part or all of the breast is intensely painful, hot, tender, red, and swollen. Some mothers can pinpoint a definite area of inflammation, while at other times the entire breast is tender.

You feel tired, run down, achy, have chills or think you have the flu. A breastfeeding mother who thinks she has the flu probably has mastitis. Mothers with mastitis will sometimes experience these flu-like symptoms, even before they get a fever or notice breast tenderness.

You have chills or feel feverish, or your temperature is 101F or higher. These symptoms suggest that you have an infection.

You are feeling progressively worse, your breasts are growing more tender, and your fever is becoming more pronounced. With simple engorgement, a plugged duct, or mastitis without infection, you gradually feel better instead of worse.

Recent events have set you up for mastitis: cracked or bleeding nipples, stress or getting run down, missed feedings or longer intervals between feedings.
