....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

I'm one of those people who always take them to the docs. Maybe get on the doctors nerves but I'd rather be on the safe side, especially when they are so tiny. If it's tricky to go I ring NHS direct and get to speak to a doctor on the phone and that can help you decide whether they need to be seen or not! Hope everyone's little ones start to get better soon. This has been a very bad time of year to have babies! Those of you doing it again, try for summer babies next time!

Elf, I think you may be right about Ruby having a growth spurt. She seems to have an insatiable appetite at the moment and is really getting HUGE. My other children have always been both normal sized so it's unusual for me to have such a big baby. She's a little angel though and is very contented (as long as she's being fed all the time!)

Danishmummy, I do feel for you. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have dh to pass the kids onto when he gets in from work. I hope things get better for you soon xx

Just finished wrapping the christmas prezzies. Wrapped a couple of brightly coloured soft toys for Ruby. Why I wrapped them, I really don't know as I'll be the one unwrapping them on Christmas morning Is everyone else all ready now?

YOKEFLEET · 19/12/2005 15:53

BBB Thanks, it is murder trying to get into our drs but it's open house their tomorrow with the HV so will see what they say.
All ready for Xmas except we are in Wales and all my pressies are in Yorkshire, so when we drive up to Yorkshire on Friday I need to write all the gift tags! (wrapped all pressies in July but didn't know what flavour baby we were having!)

Redtartanlass · 19/12/2005 18:20

ds2 over the worse, still not eating

dd just beginning to peak, temp, sickness and diarrhea, aswell as wheezing & cough.

Of to doc tomorow!!

not sure about Egypt on thurs

hope our babies are better for christmas.

morningpaper · 19/12/2005 20:48

RTL we are in exactly the same boat on the sickness front. It's sooo stressful! I can't WAIT until they are better again. I especially hate seeing the baby all red-eyed and hacking. It's awful.

Redtartanlass · 19/12/2005 21:58

morningpaper -it's realy upsetting, as you said. I just want to make it better for them!!! Is your baby bringing up phlemg and is it upsetting their tummy and giving terrible wind?

YOKEFLEET · 20/12/2005 08:50

rtl/mo hope your lo's are feeling better this morning

YOKEFLEET · 20/12/2005 08:51

that should have been rtl/mp

Jockey · 20/12/2005 12:20

Sympathy to those with poorly little ones - it's SO hard isn't it. I certainly won't be having a baby in the autumn again (not that I'm planning anymore). Actually baby hasn't been too bad, it's the others! We are all ok here now, fingers crossed that it lasts until Christmas.

I usually take them to docs anyway if not sure. They are probably sick of the sight of me! DS2 threw a toy which landed on her head the other day - marched her straight off down there. She had a little mark and seemed fine but they didn't mind in the least - our docs quite like seeing small babies (just as well).

Have decided Sophie needs a helmet for Christmas - and she's not even mobile yet! Or maybe a whole suit of armour.

nervousmum · 20/12/2005 13:40

Hi Everyone, just a quick one...Well Joey had his second set of vaccinations yesterday, he's still sleeping through the night, and we had his christening last Sunday, which was lovely (even if M-I-L was as obnoxious as ever)

Hope everyone is all ok, and if i don't get chance to log on again for a while, have a fantastic christmas and New Year.

I'm having Evelyn christened on the 5th Feb, cant wait!

Got to take her to hospital today for second ultrasound scan on her hips. Not looking forward to it at all, she hated it last time

nervousmum · 20/12/2005 14:22

All,
Last night was shocker, up at 11.30 pm with baby, midnight (cat), 1 am (ds2), 1.30 am (baby) 4.30 am (baby), 5.30 am (baby) (cat, dh and ds1 slept well thank you although nearly did serious injury to dh in night due to loud snoring).

Am floating on sleep deprivation-chocolate cake induced cloud of light-headedness combined with slightly manic behaviour. Look a bit odd too as I don't think I have brushed my hair since Thurs (what day is it today?). Plastered on smile for ds1's nativity and convinced myself that I must have imagined the strange looks from the rest of the audience - or were they just admiring the mad hairstyle?

Painting for under 3s this afternoon, may pass out under an apron.

mawbroon · 20/12/2005 16:40

Hello all. Haven't had time to read the whole thread, but at a glance, it looks like some of you are having a tough time of it. I hope all the unwell babies get well soon.

Johnny is now eight and a half weeks old. I have spent the last week feeding him non stop through the day without him sleeping at all. If I don't feed him then he cries... Lucky me though, he has slept through the night (8 - 10 hours)almost every night for the last week. Unfortunately for me, I have to get up and pump my bursting boobs in the middle of the night! I did this the other night and was not amused to be mopping up breastmilk off the floor after somehow spilling the whole 6oz which I had just managed to express.

He's getting his first jags tomorrow though . I am going to have to try my hardest not to cry too. I'm still a bit hormonal when it comes to stuff like that, but otherwise doing fine!

Elf1981 · 21/12/2005 07:12

Have any of you got a load of Xmas cards with babies name spelt incorrectly? So far we have had : Eveie, Evy, Everlyn, Evelynn and Everlynne
I wouldn't mind, but I sent my Xmas cards out ages ago clearly spelling EVELYN! Also getting wound up with people mispronouncing the name. Grrr. People ask me what she is called, I say her name (pronounced Ever lyn, not eve lyn) and people still say "ohh, eve lyn, what a lovely name"!
Rant over
Scan of hips yesterday showed they are fine now, no need to worry or to see hospital again, yippeeee Plus she didn't scream the place down, she just moaned a bit. Not sure if it's because she was sleepy but must try that approach for the next set of jabs.

Hope all poorly babies are getting better, would write more but Evie is doing her road runner impression and bleeting at me

YOKEFLEET · 21/12/2005 08:39

Elf Great news about the scan. Lucky for us you can't really go wrong with spelling Thomas!
rtl How are your lo's are they fit for travel tomorrow?

Hope all the other babies are feeling better.

mrow · 21/12/2005 12:21

Hello everyone,
Just a quick note to say Happy Christams to all of you and the babies having their first Christmas! Aaagh!
Heidi doing well, has starting vocalising a lot and is experimenting with new sounds everyday. Unfortunetly the only sound she experiments with during the night is crying but it does seem to get a bit easier everyday!! Im off to in laws tomorrow for a few days, may find a babysitter there for a few hours you never know!! Happy Christmas!

mummygow · 21/12/2005 13:16

Hi everyone hope you are all doing well and all those poorly babies getting stronger, Cameron still has the cold - feel like he has had it since the day he was born (8 wks) had him at doctors 3 times and hospital once but they just keep saying that he is picking up different viruses, cant wait till he stops sounding chocked up.

He has been sleeping too much during day so I am trying to keep him awake after his nap as he is up between 7pm - 11pm but then he is just up once between 11pm - 7am for an once or 2 so hopefully will drop this one soon.

Any hints how to keep him awake, its after this nap that he is nightmare to keep awake. 11.45 - 2.15

YOKEFLEET · 21/12/2005 16:56

mummygow to keep Thomas awake we sing "pat a cake" over and over again!! seems to do the trick for us.

TO ALL Have a lovely Christmas we are going up to Yorkshire tomorrow until Boxing day.

ponto · 21/12/2005 22:36

Reading this thread I'm feeling so lucky that Alice hasn't been ill, hope all the poorly babies are better soon. Dd1 has had a cough/cold for the last 3 weeks and Alice has been coughed over many times, so don't know how she's managed to avoid catching it.

I've nearly finished wrapping presents, never been so organised for Christmas before, I think it was the worry about not having enough time which meant I started really early for me (i.e. before the beginning of December). Still don't feel I've got enough for Alice, but can't think of anything she needs - she's got all dd1's clothes and toys. I'm going to look for a name plate for her door tomorrow, as she's grown out of her moses basket and will need to move into a cot in her own room after Christmas. Hoping that will encourage her to drop the middle of the night feed too.

Probably won't get the chance to post again before Christmas so hope everyone has a good one.

Elf1981 · 23/12/2005 07:14

Just a quick one to wish everybody a fantastic Christmas and a wicked New Year!
It's my first Xmas as a mummy and I cant wait!!

BigBumpBonnie · 23/12/2005 14:49

Same from me Elf, just to wish everyone a merry christmas! I'm getting really excited now, we braved the big Tescos last night and have finally finished shopping so I feel really ready now. Can't wait to see dd1s face when she sees all her presents on Christmas morning.

Hope everyone's baby is now wellxxx

morningpaper · 23/12/2005 22:26

Ponto I've also been hyper-organised and I'm already to start Christmas! I'm so looking forward to my 3 year-old dd opening her pressies and seeing her new BARBIE!!! (I know I know my feminist side is cringing).

Getting over our colds/infections now which is good. Baby starting to vocalise which is ADORABLE.

Can't believe how quickly two months has gone - seems like YEARS ago that I was pregnant - feels like I imagined the whole thing!

hester · 23/12/2005 22:44

Hi everyone. It's been forever since I've been on this thread, and I've still not had a chance to read it through. Look forward to perhaps doing so over the next week or so.

So just for now:

  1. dd is a complete delight, though I am knackered.
  2. I love being a mum.
  3. Happy christmas to you all!
Jockey · 24/12/2005 10:30

Good to hear from you Hester - glad you're ok.

Went to the supermarket this morning for some batteries and it was incredibly quiet - I guess everyone has done their shopping. For some reason I also bought a giant seriously chocolatey cake.

I can't wait to see everyone's faces either, especially my ds2 when he sees his ride on tractor! He has no idea about it.

Merry Christmas everyone.

morningpaper · 24/12/2005 17:46

I was just remembering this time last year and how DESPERATE I was for a baby.

I feel SO LUCKY AND BLESSED that I've got one this year.

Christmas cuddles to all our lovely babies. And here's hoping for a Silent Night.
