....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

That's funny BM because my dd has that too but it seems to be closed over. The health visitors don't seem interested so I assume it's okay. Poor you!

Mummy2Ellie · 30/11/2005 22:10

pogface · 01/12/2005 16:57

evening everyone, and
welcome MumtoEllie.
Jem was 1 month old yesterday! he has suddenly decided to become a grumping grizzling pain in the bum. he just feeds, sleeps and cries. its so bloody frustrating! and i have NO CHOICE about it! i never realised that motherhood would be an exercise in having your ego broken down.
he's also suddenly developed an ultra-radar for when he's been put down to sleep on something that isnt a person. I am determined not to let him become unable to sleep on his own but dP is just so willing to give in when its easiest... and i dont blame him really.
re colic - is that the same as having trapped wind? and does infacol really take a week to wor? we gave up after about 5 days cos its just so gross and i hate giving him saccarin.
why does it get worse at night? he is ok during the day but just strains and whinges all night. come morning, he just relaxes. and sleeps much better n the daylight with noise around him. i think he doesnt like the dark/silence of nighttime. havent had the stomach to enforce dark/silent/alone daytime naps. Damn that gina ford woman!!!!

Hi All, sorry no posts for a while - i've been contending with DS and DP both being poorly with bad colds. Thankfully Joey seems over the worst of it now, but it was quite frightening hearing him struggle to breathe at his worst Thank goodness for calpol!

Well, so much for the lovely 6 hour sleep stretches! Since Joey first developed his cold, we've been back to 3 hours max, and only if he was in our bed. I'm slowly getting him back into his cot, and for longer stretches (thanks to The Baby Whisperer), but the lack of sleep is torture, especially as i think i'm getting the same cold! At least he seems to be over the dreaded colic.

Best buy - a Kiddopotamous swaddle wrap and/or the grobags - both prevent kicking covers off and therefore too much screaming

Worst buy - where do i start?!? The trouble with being a first-timer is that we just went out and bought everything that people recommended, and i'm sure half of it is still in it's boxes! Probably the moses basket, seeing as Joey's grown out of it already and he's only 9 weeks old.

Take care All, NM x

baaaaad mummy. Evie had her injections today. She was not impressed!
Now 10lbs 12 but has dropped from being above to being below the 50% line, so got to go back in two weeks to be weighed again.

morningpaper · 01/12/2005 22:07

Pogface: "i never realised that motherhood would be an exercise in having your ego broken down."

Too right! Once you've had a baby, mother nature has done with you. Soon you will disappear completely! Well it feels like it sometimes.

DH just been at a meeting and I have had two hours of pacing the floor with a screaming colic monster. My ears are ringing. I might look up exorcists in the Yellow Pages.

Elf1981 · 01/12/2005 22:09

Evie is in her moses basket at the moment having nightmares about her injections. She's asleep but every so often is screaming out. Then a pause. Then another scream. keep telling Dh that the pause was for when the nurse picked up the second needle!!!

SusiS · 01/12/2005 22:34

aww elf, poor evie!! don't say things like that - caitlin will get her injections tomorrow!
and i still can remember when ds got his - i was in tears

Elf1981 · 02/12/2005 09:44

I cried in the car after Evie's injections. I thought I'd be strong but it wasn't just her injections she had to endure this week but the ultrasound scan as well so I've seen her screaming in pain / annoyance twice this week.
Just hate the fact that she doesn't know that both times were for her own good.

Hopefully Caitlin will be better than Evie with the injections!

triceroastingonanopenfire · 02/12/2005 12:43

The jabs are not nice at all are they? I kept ds on the boob while he was getting his done and that seemed to settle him quickly. It is supposed to be a painkiller.

My house is a tip and I can't fit into my new size 14 trousers because my bum is too big.

I am going to go and eat all the chocs out of my advent calender.

triceroastingonanopenfire · 02/12/2005 12:47

Oh and on the plus side I managed to do some bd this morning but we forgot to use anything . I think I need a trip to the chemist.

BigBumpBonnie · 02/12/2005 13:16

Don't worry about your bum trice! with christmas coming up might as well indulge and be merry. You've got the great excuse that you've only just given birth. How long can we get away with saying that??

My house is a tip too. I seem to be just surface cleaning every day without the time to do anything major. Find it virtually impossible to clean upstairs as dd1 naps in the afternoon but ruby is asleep downstairs so it just doesn't get done.

On a brighter note I'm just about to put up the christmas decs while dd1 is in bed and I can't wait to see her little face when she gets up and sees the tree & lights. Shes 2 and a half so it's the first year she's really known much about it. I've also got a hairdressers appointment tomrrow and am really looking forward to that. Thinking of doing something different and can't wait for a few hours of peace and quiet

morningpaper · 02/12/2005 22:29

GROAN... haircuts and breastfeeding seem to be an impossible combination. I have turned into a 1970's fat bird. I can't imagine anyone wanting to look after my screaming monster for long enough for anyone to tackle my locks though.

Trice you are NAUGHTY. Your arse can't be that bad, eh?

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 02/12/2005 23:00

I got a new haircut today - something about having a baby suddenly make us all want to get the chop?! LOL

Just thinking about going to bed.... Dad babysat tonight so me and DH went bowling with my Bro and SIL and a few mates.... GREAT night! (Baby and toddler free zone so of course it was a GREAT night!)

ponto · 03/12/2005 06:35

Have just found time to catch up on this thread, as for some reason I have been wide awake since Alice woke for a poo at 3.30am! She went back to sleep immediately but I had to get her up to change her nappy then she weed while I was doing it so I had to completely change all her clothes. She was wide awake by then so needed a feed to go back to sleep. Normally I'd doze off at the same time but I lay there for nearly 2 hours and just couldn't sleep. I am exhausted all day so I just don't understand it. Ah well, at least dh is home today to look after dd1 so I might get a nap later. Am going back to bed to try again now, but Alice will probably wake again soon as it's 3 hours since last feed.

Piggiesmum · 03/12/2005 13:43

Finally had chance to catch up with the thread. We are in the middle of geting ready to move house in a couple of weeks. We must be mad. We are having to hire a skip to get rid of all our clutter so i am on a permanent cycle of feed ds, sort clutter, get ds to sleep, feed myself, sort clutter, feed ds............. blimey i'm knackered.

Sorry to hear some of your lo's are suffering so badly with colic. We've not been too bad here, we persevered with infacol for windinessand it definately helps. I've noticed if i forget it a few times he starts to suffer again, also gripe water afer the feed helps if he's really bad.

Night times are mixed, a few nights ago he was snuffly and waking ever 2 - 2.5 hours but last night he did two stretchesof approx 4.5 hours which was even more amazing since his last feed wasn't actually a feed, it was just water. I think he got a bit dehydrated during the day, his mouth was really dry and he was crying so i thought i'd give him little bit of water thinking he'd just have a couple of ozs at most. He took about 6 ozs!!!! but he looked so much happier afterwards! Very wet nappy when he woke up though lol.

The best thing is that he will settle in his bouncy chair and amuse himself quite happily for longer periods so i can get on with stuff, but if i crouch down when i'm passing him and say hello i get the most fantasic smiles

Elf1981 · 03/12/2005 17:34

Aren't the smiles you get just fantastic? Evie has a beautiful smile, I love doing daft things to get her to grin. Not to keen when she chews on my nipple though and looks at me and smiles she does it!!
Got hand ache today writing all Xmas tags out for pressies, having to remember theres an extra name this year!
Evie has a cold now, poor mite. Not been a very good week for her!! She's all snuffly and coughing. Going to my mum and dad's tomorrow while DH has some friends over to play poker, it will be nice to be waited on and have people fight me for Evie!

YOKEFLEET · 03/12/2005 21:00

Thomas slept from 11.30 last night through until 6.30 this morning!!!!! bliss - so I rang my parents to tell them only to be told that my mum (who had started with a cough yesterday) had passed out in the bathroom at 4.30 this morning with a very high fever, as she has hit the floor she caught the side of the bath with her face and has a bruised eye, sore nose, busted lip and her 3 front teeth badly broken So we went to see them taking straws for her to try and drink through (with a big bunch of flowers too!) She was feeling better as we left this evening, thankfully
Hope your all having a good weekend xxx

YOKEFLEET · 04/12/2005 10:15

Well Thomas was back to normal last night with his feeds 3 and 5 o'clock. If it wasn't Thomas keeping me awake it was DH who has flu!! Just heard that my mum is going to A&E with her busted lip! I will be glad when this weekend is over!

ButtonMoon · 04/12/2005 20:02

LOL yokefleet...snap.....we had an excellent night on Fri DS slept from 10-5.30 (bliss) and then last night woke at 1 and then 4!! Why does that happen, if they can do it one night......... All ok here just getting ready to move house (snap piggiesnum!!) this week so I too know that sleep, feed, pack cycle too) the feeds are nice as it means I can sit down and relax just glas we did most packing when i was pg....just don't know how we would have done it otherwise..only just about starting to feel some sense of normality here, 8 weeks on!!!!! DS has his injections tm and I'm having him weighed too,he weighs a ton to carry round all day, reckon he'll have broken the stone mark by now Still not sure whether to give a dummy, he has started to try to find his fist/fingers and not sure whether I like the fact that I won't be able to take it awayt from him...but then he doesn't cry a lot nowadays so not sure when I would give him it really...would rather not get into the sleeping with dummy routine with him as it was a bit of an ordeal with DD...retrieving the dummy 7 times a night!!! Oh well we'll just have to see.....next time I come on here we should all be moved and not living out of cardboard boxes...got to go little man is squealing for attention...hmmmmmm dummy or not???

Elf1981 · 05/12/2005 11:36

argh - Evie's cold has gotten worse - stuffy snotty nose, and a terrible cough. Rang up to get her in the docs, can get in til tomorrow morning.
Luckily she's been okay at night, the moses basket is on a rocking stand so I have been putting her more towards the bottom of the basket so she's sleeping a bit more upright. She's still managing eight hours straight, but she's terrible in the day - tired out and keeps waking herself with coughing fits during times when she'd usually have a nap.

Elf1981 · 05/12/2005 11:42

Oh and my DH has brought me a fantastic Xmas pressie. Its this

BigBumpBonnie · 05/12/2005 12:17

What a lovely thoughtful present from your dh, Elf. Hope you really enjoy it.
Yokefleet, hope your mums feeling much better now.

Ruby has her injections on Wednesday and I'm dreading them. She has gained loads of weight and is much bigger than her sister was at this point even though their birth weights were the same. She is a star and is sleeping from 11pm till 7 am now. It is fantastic. On Saturday we gave her a bottle at 7 am and she went back down until 9.30!! My 2 year old decided to sleep in as well. We couldn't believe we have a 7 wk old baby and a 2 year old and we got a lie in Really hope it lasts.

Managed to get my decorations up and am really getting in the mood now with the fairy lights twinkling. I can't wait until Christmas.

Hope everyone's house move goes smoothly and your new little babies behave themselves for you.

What are you all getting your new ones for christmas?? I haven't got a clue!

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 05/12/2005 12:20

BBB - Becky is getting an outfit from us and a rattle from Jessica... woo hoo! At this age, there really is NO point! Even Jess at 16 months hasnt got a clue, but she likes to unwrap things so we have got her some really cheap bits and an Aquadraw as her main present.
