....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

Best buy a baby bath seat that she can sit right up in and have baths with her sister and I can just sit across the other side of the bathroom and watch them play!

Worst buy: all those new sleepsuits that people bought us! Too small already!

fastasleep · 28/11/2005 16:20

Hello.. sorry I've been missing again!

Routines? Pah! Routines are for boring babies...ahem ...

Best Buy - Hugababy sling - utterly fantastic in every single way! (thanks to MTS who gave it to me!)

Worst Buy - As we bought shockingly little I'll have to say the silk and organza hand embroidered dress and angora cardigan my mum bought from Monsoon, what was that woman on?! (It's for xmas apparently so we haven't even attempted to put Sophia in it!)

Jockey · 28/11/2005 16:58

Hi - sorry I've been missing too!

As this is the 4th and last, we bought very little, probably even less than you FA. I nearly bought a lovely new pram but I'm glad I didn't as we use the sling all the time (although she'll be too heavy for me soon). It also keeps me nice and warm.

Had a strange weekend as the lights all failed upstairs - the kids thought this was great fun running round with torches (I need a drink!). Thank goodness the sparky came this morning.

It is absolute mayhem in this house at 5pm. If I ever walk out, it will be at this time! Must go...

fastasleep · 28/11/2005 21:27

Mmm it's like having a hot water bottle on your front, great in this weather... I don't want little Sophia to ever outgrow her sling!

Elf1981 · 28/11/2005 21:33

Best buys - the M&P Pramette (love it!) and her grow bag (much easier than replacing kicked off covers)
Worst buy - think might be the drawer top changer, not used it yet!!

YOKEFLEET · 29/11/2005 09:25

Had another rough night with Thomas, One of the feeds I don't even remember doing but there was a half empty bottle there???
Normally he has a feed between 8 and 9pm then he falls asleep in his bouncer til we go up to bed then he seems to wake as soon as our lights go out for a feed, last night however after his 9pm feed he stayed awake, I thought great means he should sleep longer after our bed time feed, but no.....as soon as we got up stairs he cried his heart out, checked everything he was fed, warm but not too hot and dry. Music wouldn't soothe him, tried winding him but nothing in the end I was sobbing with him, felt so helpless In the end after an hour and a half of crying baby, he fell asleep in my arms and looked so peaceful. As I put him down in his cot he started again but I stroked him head and he gave in and went to sleep. I never realised just how emotionally draining all this would be. I wouldn't be without him for a minute but can't wait for an un-broken nights sleep (even 4hrs would do!!)
Anyway I will stop warbling on as I had better get ready as Thomas has his first lot of injections this morning. Hope your all doing ok this morning.

morningpaper · 29/11/2005 09:30

Sympathies Yokefleet, those long crying jags are awful - my dd can cry and cry until she retches in the evenings, although an hour beforehand she's her normal jolly self. Evenings are just the witching hour for newborns aren't they? Most evenings we are getting a bit of hysterical screaming (from baby, not just me ) although we've had some evenings with no screaming, which has been lovely. With dd1 it all stopped at 3 months so I'm expecting it will be just the same. Can't wait to just have an evening to sit with DH and talk or watch telly together.

BigBumpBonnie · 29/11/2005 09:48

Sorry you had a bad night Yokefleet. I feel bad posting this but for the last week ruby has been sleeping for 7 hours at night. It just sort of happens all of a sudden and I do hope it happens for everyone else soon as it's lovely to not spend every day in a zombie like state! Our problems lay in other areas though. Her skin got really bad over the last couple of days and she developed peeling on her stomach and chest. We've been really worried so I took her to the doctors yesterday (again) who referred us straight to the paediatrician at the hospital Two doctors have looked at her and have said she has got really bad excema and to just use creams and not bath her very often. They have given her some antibiotics as well as some areas are inflammed and look really sore.

I am so so sad for her as she is a lovely happy little baby and it seems such a shame she is suffering so much with her skin. I really hope it's something she will grow out of in time but they couldn't promise me that

On the plus side they weighed her at hospital to find out how big a dose of antibiotics to prescribe and she's 12lb12oz She's only 6 and a half weeks so is doing really well! Got the 3 - 6 months clothes down from the loft yesterday!

YOKEFLEET · 29/11/2005 09:50

Thanks MP - was just sod's law, I shouldn't have said to DH that it looked like we might have a good night! At least with Thomas it isn't every night, I don't know how you'd cope with that.

YOKEFLEET · 29/11/2005 09:54

BBB - no need to feel bad! hearing other peoples positive news helps remind me that this isn't going to last forever and we just have to enjoy all of him......even the sleepless nights!
Sorry to hear about Ruby's skin, at least she is getting prompt treatment, I hope that you see some improvement soon. You said it looked sore, does she seem to be in pain with it? ( I do hope not)

Elf1981 · 29/11/2005 12:05

Yoke - can totally sympathise with a bad night last night. Took Evie upstairs at 7:30 to feed her, she dropped off for like a second, then woke up and screamed from then onwards til 11:30 when DH took her for a walk around the block. She fell asleep, he put her in the Moses basket and she woke up about 20 mins later. Fed her and she eventually went off to sleep, but around 11:00 I could have cried, I just did not know what else to check! I was sat there rocking her saying "tell me whats wrong, and mummy will sort it out!". Didn't get an answer though!
Off to the hospital in a bit for Evie's ultrasound scan of her hips.

YOKEFLEET · 29/11/2005 12:57

Elf - its hard isn't it! Good luck with the scan.
Thomas has had his injections this morning and he screamed for about 10 seconds then went back to sleep!!! he must be trying to catch up on the sleep we both missed last night!

mrow · 29/11/2005 13:40

Having problems here at bedtime too. Just been the last five nights it gets to 11.30 and she gets really hysterical and just wnats to feed constantly. Last night I was practically up all night and now she is sleeping soundly of course. Feeling really drained! A fiend suggested I just let her cry so she learns to settle herself? Not sure the neighbours would appreciate that though!

SusiS · 29/11/2005 14:03

hey girls. yes i agree - the evenings are tough! and somehow she wants feeding more and more frequent towards the evening. how on earth can we keep up with them!
but on a brighter note she seems to finally have cracked the feeding and put on over the last 2 weeks 1lb5oz which brings us to 10lb6oz now
she actually is getting a little tummy

normally she'll got down for the night between 8-9; i put her in her basket upstairs awake all lights out. normally she'll fall asleep really quickly or might moan for a little while. but as long as she is not really screaming blue murder i am not going to her. and that's her till 4ish - then the 2-3 hours feeding cycle starts again!

bonnie sorry to hear about your little girl, at least you've got something now to deal with it!

oh elf a scan. good luck! - that reminds me i have to call the hospital. i've got a date but now time; well no details really - very strange!

oh and best buy: phil&ted double buggy and sleeping bags
worst buy: well didn't really buy anything this time round; but i'd have to say the top/bottom bowl which is still unused and i bought it 2yrs ago for ds

Elf1981 · 29/11/2005 17:28

Oh my Gawd. Poor Evie screamed blue bloody murder during her scan. It was awful I had to hold her down on her side so she didn't move much and they scanned her hips, doing the whole press on really hard to get a decent picture thing. My mum was in the waiting room and asked if I'd be okay taking Evie for her jabs by myself as no doubt that will be worse!!
Saw the docs after, they said that Evie doesnt have clicky hips but has "immature hips". I dont know what it means (have posted question on another thread) but she has to be rescanned in three weeks. Feeling a bit sad now, bad mummy!

YOKEFLEET · 29/11/2005 19:56

Elf - I hope that you get some answers soon. My mum came with me today when we took Thomas for his jabs she held him and he only cried for about 10 seconds then went back to sleep, it really wasn't as bad as I expected. I think next time I will be ok on my own.
I do hope that we all get a better nights kip tonight! I have been like a zombie all day...kept getting to the top of our stairs and forgetting what I had gone up for, I was bad enough before!

YOKEFLEET · 30/11/2005 09:47

Better night last night with Thomas, I got 3.5hrs unbroken sleep = bliss
We have got baby CPR training on Friday, has anyone else had this?

Elf1981 · 30/11/2005 10:19

After some awful nights with Evie, last night she slept from 9:30 til 7:00. Blisssssssss.

Yoke - no experience, but sounds really useful! I've done a St Johns First Aid course but it was a seperate one for babies, and as mine was for work purposes, it wasn't deemed necessary.

YOKEFLEET · 30/11/2005 11:03

Elf - that must have been nice!!!!
Our HV arranges for a nurse to come to your home to do the CPR which I thought was really good.

ButtonMoon · 30/11/2005 16:45

Been busy...DS had tongue tie clipped last week and has been referred to hospital about a sinus at on his bottom that the doc says could possibly lead to his bowel....[sad) He has to go and have it investigated and have dye and probes put up it to see if it leads anywhghere...so I' m not lookinf forward to that after Xmas. Can't imagine them doing it to him without some form of sedation or GA.....quite concerned about it really. DD had 3 GA's recently and it wa sthe most worrying time of my life. Got to be sorted though I suppose. Apart from that thpough, some good nights some very bad. Best so far has been a 6 hour stretch from 11-5, God I felt good the next day. he seems to be ok for the first part of the nioght and then after the night feed(s) (!!!???) he just won't settle because of wind so ends up sleeping on my front (which I quite like!! and it means we both get sleep) He seems generally more setlled in the day though and is gaining weight well ...jabs on Mon...not worried more bothered about how DD (3)will react and she gets very concerned...bless her. I just keep saying that it's a good job he is so gorgeous, cute and handsome...... Hope you all have frequent better nights soon !!

fastasleep · 30/11/2005 18:43

Aww BM! How stressful I hope it's the best case scenario... When DS had dye pumped into his bladder as a newborn, via a rather large looking tube that went up his penis, he didn't have any sedation... I don't know which is worse really, having it or not having it... I know how scary GA's are for very little people... sending love and hugs for all of you xxx

My little Sophia sleeps on my front from the very early morning onwards too, it's nice isn't it

YOKEFLEET · 30/11/2005 19:50

BM - I can't imagine how you must feel.
Thomas also sleeps on my front after his feed through the night unless he actually falls asleep during the feed, then I can put him down

morningpaper · 30/11/2005 21:01

GAH this colic is SUCH a bore. I don't know how she has the energy to SCREAM for hours on end. Me and DH take in it turns to carry her around in 20 minute shifts. Nothing pacifies her though. sigh I would not be surprised if her head spun around ...

morningpaper · 30/11/2005 21:02

BM what is a sinus and how did you know he had it?

ButtonMoon · 30/11/2005 21:15

Sympathy to you with colic situation, DD had it til 14 weeks very stressful and always when you're shattered. She cried from 5 til 10pm, bloody awful...we found swaddling helped a lot but seeing her in so much pain was dire....hugs to you to help you thru it.
A sinus is a small hole-we found it shortly after he was born but no one seemed bothered really. But stuff keeps coming out of it so doc looked and ref us. Apparently most close up on own but others may be more sinister Just one of those things really....doesn't bother him...well at least I don't think so...well not as much as having a large pair of scissors thrust in your mouth to cut your frenulum !!!!
